I am not white and moved to VH from a low income neighborhood in Chicago. I'm not even sure why race has anything to do with any of these questions, but the previous commentator seems to want to make it seem like it's an evil white school. I'll tell you, it's not. This school is excellent and coming from a home where my father was an elementary school teacher at CPS I feel as though this school is not only extremely supportive and caring for it's students but goes above and beyond to ensure it's students are treated with respect and taught to be considerate and respectful. I also believe that's it's not the schools responsibility to teach character, it's the parents responsibility. Unfortunately some parents think it's the schools responsibility to raise their child. It's sad. Be a parent and raise your kids.

Not a fan of schools developing character, but the school is effective in teaching kids in having integrity and respect. I especially like the SOAR program which helps develop kids the desire to be better human beings.

Dr. Martin is an excellent leader. From the interactions I've had with her she seems genuine and caring, yet carries an authoritative persona that is needed as a leader.

I believe that kids will be kids and teachers are not baby sitters. Their job is to teach. Parents need to be better at raising kids to be respectful and to keep their hands to themselves. Regardless I believe the school does a great job at stopping this when identified.

Maybe for the white students, but not my child. They tend to write off the kids that dont come from the richer part of vernon hills.

The principle acts like they are there for the kids, but if you are low income or Hispanic you are not as valued.

District and staff only care about the funds. They barely follow the guidelines. Even the school physcologist is unsupportive and needs to go back to school.

Can't wait to move out of vernon hills to be away from this joke of a school. If you are white and have money, then Im sure your child will do great!

The amount of work given in 1st grade is spelling 12 words & reading 20 minutes a night. Come 2nd grade they have a math, typing 15 min, spelling, reading 20 min, and reading comp a night. Come 3rd grade the expectations are even higher. Worse off, is when the kid has a 504 or IEP and the homework load is too much the teachers allow the kids to not worry about it therefore failing the child.

The district is not special needs friendly. They will do as little as possible and wording is very deliberate so accommodations are offered but do not legally bind them. Administration will definitely retaliate, district staff and board condones it as well. Do not make the mistake of thinking that their intention is to help, they protect their budget. Family after family have had terrible experiences.

My three children were new students this year. They love their school so much they don't want to miss a day even when they are ill. The teachers are dedicated and the PTO is phenomenal! We are so happy we moved here!

It's a great school! My son and daughter enjoy every learning experience here. Thank you very much to all the teachers and staffs.
