Beautiful school and staff. We came from lake county and dont regret our move at all! My boys are learning heaps and bounds with the school staff being kind and generous!

Hynes , I took my kids out of hynes because it was to messy, my daughter came home with a story to tell every day it was just to much . Other than that the school is good it fun for the kids , I like it .

Pros:

Teachers motivate kids to learn though there are exceptions.

School is clean.

Teachers are organized.

Cons:

Classes follow a rigid structure. One-size-fits-all approach does not address the needs of all kids and families.

No foreign languages are taught.

Unsafe environment: a couple classes are taken on a trailer.

There is no separation between State and Church. Schools closes on some religious Holidays.

School does not welcome families as partners.

Communication from school to parents is inconsistent, unclear and therefore, confusing.

Administration lacks transparency.

There is no acceleration program.

Not a safe school for your child. If theres someone hurting your child and you reported so many times and the child did nothing is fine and still happening. Looking to move out from this school.

Prior to August of 2022 I would give Hynes 4 stars but after the new Principal, I regret to give only 1 start. She lacks experience, tact and "honesty". Her administration has been a total nightmare as she lacks flexible thinking and most importantly TRANSPARENCY. If you ask them to put something in writing they will either not do it or write some extremely vague and confusing information full of jargons. If you agree with her you will not have a problem. The problem will arise if you, as a parent "dare" to choose a different route for your own kid. The partnership with the parents will end at the moment you disagree with their opinions (mere opinions). It is really sad that the administration will try to deceive parents in an attemp to convince them to follow their reccomendations.

Wonderful school with great teachers. My daughters are constantly engaged and motivated to succeed. Great environment for learning, teachers really care about their students.

I would have rated Hymes 5 stars prior to the start of the new principal. I know she is new, but it has been an absolutely nightmare so far. She seems unprepared for this job, being a lead administrator and how to run a school. I am hoping things improve as she has more time on the job. In particular, she seems unequipped to handle the diversity of the school.

The first grade extra reading help program is computer-based, which was not an appropriate intervention for my child who has attention problems. No appropriate intervention was offered, and my child finished the grade not meeting expectations in reading.

Nightly kindergarten homework. Two worksheets every night in first grade. The Park District manages the aftercare program and does not enforce homework time.

Class sizes have grown from 20 students per class in 2014 to 29 students per class in 2019. The school has installed a portable classroom and there is a community effort underway to strategize on the issue. My child is struggling in the large classes- especially in reading.

Hynes Elementary is WONDERFUL. Our kids absolutely love getting on the bus and going to school every day. The teachers are caring professionals who really work to engage the children. The PTA is very active. Love the diversity of cultures and open-mindedness of all the families. Make sure you're zoned for this school!

Hynes and Golf schools are absolutely wonderful! The teachers really do a good job and the principal Ms. Westley and superintendent Dr. Beth Flores are great at communicating with parents. My kids absolutely love it. The Pta runs plenty of events throughtout the school year including the movie night , 8th grade play, end of year parties, and the auction, which is great at getting parents and staff involved. Programs such as read-up are something the kids really enjoy!!

Wonderful school full of energized teachers and led by an incredible principal. My kids are getting a top notch education and the best part is they love going to school. District parents are also very involved with the school fostering a strong commitment to the children and their success.

Hynes Elementary is a great school. The teachers are wonderful and work well with each other and especially with the children. The administration, specifically Mrs. Westley the school principal, is exceptional! She is very involved with the day to day activities and always available when needed. She is truly dedicated! My children enjoy school very much and love their teachers. They are always talking about something they did or learned in class with such enthusiasm and excitement. We are very lucky to have our children attend a school with great educational values and incredible staff. Hynes has won numerous awards including the Bright Red Apple Award Keep up the great work!

Hynes Elementary is a fabulous school that nurtures every child's social, emotional, and intellectual being. It is wonderfully diverse, with around 60 languages spoken in the homes of the students. Every month the school hosts events to bring the families into the schools-- movie night, Masquerade Ball, auction, literacy night, music festivals. The teachers, too, are amazing. They are the heart and soul of this district!

Mrs. Westley is the best! This is really a great school and now that they are able to bring back some of the programs they lost it will be top notch again! They also built a new gym to be in compliance with state requirements and the kids will now be able to have gym every day!

I had great expectations from this school when we moved in neighborhood, but I am totaly disappointed. There is no transparency regarding the academic goals and standards that a child should achieve.
