The worst school, teachers are being nice to parents but opposite to kids. Kids are bullied and everyday fighting. Im not even want to mansion how this school is racist. Dont matter if you white/ afro-American/ Asian or Mexican its go for all. Too many kids and school cant control safety and behavior of kids.

This school is horrible. So many of my friends have wanted to off themselves from the stress of this school. The teachers dont explain things at all, leaving kids to cry in their bedrooms after trying to solve a math problem for 4 consecutive hours. All of the kids that go into this school graduate drained. The staff members try their best to protect against bullies, but they just dont understand that bullying is not always physical, being judged based on your body or appearance can ruin your whole day. Save you kid and bring them somewhere else.

As a student I have experienced so many fights I cant keep track. Weve had to have a special release for seventh graders (my grade) so we can reduce the amount of people in the hallway at one time, therefore helping in preventing fights. Weve had police officers stationed in our hallway since at least 2nd quarter, and weve even had a teacher get sent to the hospital because he tried to stop a fight and ended up getting injured. One of my friends parents said if anything like that were to ever happen again, theyd move to a different school. The one thing that bothers me most though, is that the students suffer an OSS (out of school suspension) or an ISS (in school suspension) and then they come back when they're done and do it all over again. I understand that public schools are easier on punishments, since technically anyone can get into a public school, but its still not right to have someone whose known for fighting be allowed to keep coming back to the school and putting kids in danger. Not only are there the fights, but there have been multiple rumors (one even confirmed true) that teachers were hitting students. All in all, would not recommend this school.

The bad reviews about this school are true. Kids are bullied and into lots of trouble here.
Top reasons why this is a bad school:
-Too much bullying
-Teachers not good at teaching
-Teachers dont want to get involved in helping students
-Too many fights (There are even fights with blood involved)
-Too many kids smoking
-Very little PE options
-TONS of bad and uneducated students
-Old building but with no new upgrades/renovations (everything original or updated over a few decades ago)
-Uncomfortable seating for students
Because of all of this and more, we are moving to a new district.

My kids were bullied and harassed d and teachers did nothing to help. When my son when to the bathroom a kid opened the stall he was in, thinking there was no one inside, because THEY DO NOT WORK!! Bathrooms need a serious remodel from the broken outdated sinks, to broken stalls and dirty toilets. This was over 2 years ago and school has still not done anything about it. The school interior screams 40 years ago with original cabinets and desks throughout building. Son has complained about having butt cramps from the extremely uncomfortable chairs. He also does not like how there are little to no options when it comes to PE. He is forced to do things he didnt like, because hes not good at it, and although he school try his best to do good in the game, students make fun of him due to lack of education and teachers dont do anything about it either. School offers tons of clases but lacks great education in regards to said class. This schools bad way of teaching is reflected on the students test scores which is below average. Still district used to be great years ago but really went downhill throughout the years. To sum up everything stated, Woodland Middle School is very big and has great classes but yet lacks good education towards their students which should be their top priority and if you want the best education for your son/daughter please dont go to this school.
Thank you for reading me and my kids experience with this school, I have written this long paragraph in regards to this school because I really want this school to change for the better. Have a nice rest of your day.

Woodland Middle School is a great school. No school is perfect and there will always be outliers when it comes to students, teachers AND parents. That is in any school.
As for student behavior, bullying and racism, again it's just the outliers, a VERY large majority of the population is awesome. Great teachers, respectful students and supportive parents. How a student behaves in school, is on the parents, not the school. If you want students to come to school ready to learn, that has to come from home. The lack of respect from parents for teachers, and school is the driving force behind the
child's disrespect along with bad and sometimes inappropriate behavior. Unfortunately, it is those very students whose parents won't let the school give them consequences for their poor choices so it appears as though the school is doing nothing to address behavior and bullying.
The staff is kind and caring! Teachers are excellent. They all work hard to create a safe place for the children, one that is conducive for learning. My experience with the teachers has been nothing but great. However, I'm sure there are a few teachers there that are not at the caliber of the rest, but again this is anywhere. Does every employee at your work place do a great job. Is every supervisor to your liking, no. So why is a school any different? As much as we would like to think our teachers and schools should be perfect, it's just not reality.
Academically, the district itself is constantly looking for new ways to improve student achievement. Every year the teachers take on new endeavors and programs to help improve their teaching. One of the best things about Woodland across the board is their services. Many schools don't compare when it comes to services that support students. Keep in mind, that it's the state of Illinois that creates the standards, not the teachers or administrators.
Woodland Middles school has its faults like any school district, but it's a great school, and district. One that really tries to create a positive and warm environment so students want to come to school.

I love this school! It is a fun place with lots of extracurricular activities that children can do. The teachers here are also very nice and kind and are willing to help students with anything to any extent. There is a little bit of bullying, but it is not bad enough that I would say that it is too prevalent. They also have a really good program for children with special needs and they would go to any length to help them out. I would not hesitate to recommend this school to somebody.

Bad. It is more typical of a low performing school in a cash strapped urban area. Students coming to school not ready to learn. Social promotion in place so students go on to the next grade even if they didn't pass their classes. Teachers abrogating their responsiblities as educators by not having a strong Union and fighting for real education to take place. Administrators just there collecting a paycheck and wasting our tax dollars.
Posted: June 30, 2020
Posted: June 30, 2020
There is a weak Union at the school, so teachers have no real voice.

Not well funded enough to accomplish this goal.
Posted: February 9, 2020
It's a decent school, but it does have many faults regarding educators, students, etc.
Posted: February 9, 2020
Usually, the amount of homework is fair.
Posted: February 9, 2020
Teachers need to be taught how to deal with situations and conflict better. Teaching is decent.
Posted: February 9, 2020
This is mainly an issue with the children as opposed to the school itself.
Posted: February 9, 2020
Although promoted, most staff don't encourage the students.

I have 3 kids and have been in the district for 9 years. From k-8 I have never had a teacher I didn't like. The district has always been ahead of the game when it comes to teaching respect and helping the kids get along. Any small issues I've dealt with have been rectified immediately. The schools are very organised and always seem to have thought of everything. I recommend the district all of the time and wil avoid leaving the district at all costs.

Posted: July 26, 2015
Poor education and even worse interpersonal interaction. It doesn't matter because nobody cares, bullying is very out of control in part since they bus in kids from wherever they can get funding from.
Posted: July 26, 2015
School is too large and not personal. Students are passed on wether they learn or not, just another number.

Recently, I have discovered that the team my child has to work on, has not been prompt with responding to concerns about his/her homework. Now it is the middle of the year. Barely anything to show for assisting him. Not very happy with this educational service on the teachers part. I have been trying to communicate and help his/her assignments get turned in, but never received report of what assignments were missing. So now, I barely received an academic meeting. But am very disappointed it took this long for all the teachers to create a meeting with me (the parent). Hopefully the rest of the year will have something to show for this meeting. But why would teachers who are suppose to care for a child's education being so latent to the situation???
Posted: October 29, 2013
The special education is not what it used to be. The schools rather save money than help your child. The teachers are being pressured not to get involved but rather use extra credit to improve grades. The changing of grades does not show where the child is academically. When my child was failing a grade in class the teacher raised the scores higher in other areas of the class work to hide the deficit. This is not what "good teachers" do. The special education at the school has changed in the last few years and they really do not care. It is more about budget cuts rather than helping your child "honestly" succeed!
