New Trier is no longer a great school. But has been passed by neighboring schools like Lake Forest. Our son has a 504 and was not treated equitably compared to the other students. I do not recommend New Trier as folks with financial means can find many, better schools in the state.

New trier is a top rated High School with more opportunities for extra curricular and academic help than can be taken advantage of by students. Teachers are open to help, there is a free tutoring center available to everyone, and there is a list of more than 500 clubs to join. Even with the large amount of students at New Trier everyone can get help and participate in classes. Teachers make sure everybody participates at least once during the class period. Advisors and Administrators will intervene if a students grade score slip. New Trier offers several help courses and other assistance options should a student need them. Not to mention New Trier’s college acceptance rate is 98%. The stats above may be skewed because the New Trier northfield campus is freshman only, therefor no AP classes are available and the “college acceptance rate” shown are not accurate because no one graduates as a freshman. AP classes are offered at the Winnetka campus (10-12).

Levels allow students with different academic ability to find a course speed and difficulty that is right for them.

Homework is demanding however reasonable. Teachers are willing to flex and fit your needs as a student and levels are tailored to the students academic ability.

This school is excellent when it comes to academics. You cannot dispute scientific test scores. However, I felt like New Trier lacked diversity and students felt very entitled. I have been at many different schools and districts throughout Illinois. I wish that there were more experiences for students at New Trier to learn about other cultures and ethnic groups. Education is great, but getting students ready for the reality of life after, not so much.

While my children never observed bullying, the school has on the website a place where students can anonymously report bullying to the administration.

My child with learning differences was helped tremendously. The resources are wonderful but more importantly, the attitude is one of working as a team to help the child, rather than adversarial.

Northfield is the freshman campus of New Trier and Winnetka is the campus for sophomores - seniors. My two daughters attended Hubbard Woods, Skokie, Washburne and then New Trier. Both are now successfully in college. They are very different people and had very different high school experiences but the school was great for both. One is academically focused and is now at an Ivy League college. The other had an IEP and New Trier was very helpful and supportive of her needs. The teachers care (for the most part - my kids liked theirs but I heard of complaints about a few; with a school of 4,000 students that's bound to be the case). Resources are excellent. NT graduates students who are extremely well prepared academically for college from day one, even when the student walks into an Ivy League college.

For the high-tax dollars, and past reputation, you'd think this place would rival any top high school. Sadly, not anymore. Super's focused on building, and while some teachers are world class, there are others who are outright horrid people - and head of the unions. Love them to do a zero-based budget & use that bloat for rehab, which IS needed. I went, and thrived, but that was 35 years back. Our first kid went, and gave up. Disorganized system, uncaring staff, and it's simply too big to be managed well even if leadership was great - which it isn't. And college placement is abysmal - talk to actual college admissions to get real scoop. Amusing, if it weren't sad. So we'll be going private for our next child - and still paying sky-high taxes. Perhaps Wilmette should have their own HS....
