River Trail is an awesome school! The teachers and leadership are both amazing. I have three kids in the school, and we couldn't be happier. Teachers take steps to challenge my kids and push them to do their best. The teachers are always super responsive to any questions or concerns I have. The school sends newsletters every week and teachers send additional info as needed. It helps to keep us in the loop. Although, remote learning had its challenges last year, River Trail handled it so well. You could tell they always took steps to be sure they did what was best for kids.

Most of the teachers at this school are amazing but the principal is terrible. The principal plays favorites and bullies teachers. I love the assistant principal but the principal at this school has no empathy and is a terrible leader.

I absolutely hate this school I am not sure there is a district doing less with more then district 56 (13K in per student funding and an above average family income school). When we started 7 years ago, this school was rated as a 7 now it is down to a 5 and I would be shocked if it is not down to a 4 within two years. Several families are moving out of district or like us are transferring to St Pats. I feel bad for the families that do not have the means to find alternatives.

The school does not give out much homework which as a parent is helpful because there is less stress to deal with at home, but I do think it limits how much material they can get through in a school year.

Leadership at this school is terrible, they are unwilling or unable to address bullying. Students are not given meaningful punishments, so no one is afraid to misbehave. When parent express what seem like reasonable concerns like better aligning the school year with the summer camp schedule to help working parent, we were told the school is not a babysitter.

The special education teachers at this school are kind but I am not sure how much progress they are making with students.

Bullying is a major issue at this school, a kid had his hair cut while in class and the teacher did not notice. Another girl was body slammed during recess for playing in an area another kid did not want her to play in and both kids (including the kid who was body slammed) had to write a fix it plan. I have not heard of a single kid getting detention or being suspended in 7 years at this school. Kids are not afraid to misbehaving and it leads to major bullying. With this being a small school (about 50 per grade) students are afraid to report bullies because if your seen as a snitch you can easily be isolated.

River trail is the best school in Lake County! The teachers put the students first. It is amazing how much the kids learn and love their school. The students stay with the same teacher for 2 years. The students also stay at this school for 9 years before moving across the street to the high school which is also rated highly at a 9. The secretaries and nurse are fabulous and so is the assistant principal. Several staff members send or did send their kids though RT. Keep up the hard dedicated work!

River Trail School is an amazing place to be. Teachers, Staff and Administration all greatly care about each and every one of the students. The family atmosphere where everyone helps each other is truly unique.

Both my children go to River Trail and I love this school. It us up to date on technological learning with the use of iPads and a great tech educated staff. The community has many parent volunteers and the children are proud to belong. Some of the brightest students I've come across.

Gurnee Grade is now River Trails Schoool. We have moved into our new beautiful, renovated building. We now are a "complete" package. Fantastic teachers, great administrators and culture of working together with parents. Any issue I have ever had has been immediately addressed. Every student in this district receives their own iPad. This district is on the cutting edge! Lastly, River Trails received Academic Excellence from the state based on their last ISAT testing. Lastly, I'm not sure the comment regarding racial diversity is accurate. I believe River Trails has the same diversity across the district.
