I went to CM throughout high school and my experience was poorly.

I had an IEP with accommodations that were either honored in the absolute bare minimum or outright ignored. Any sort of neurodivergence that is outwardly perceivable WILL be targeted and you will be pressured to conform by administration.
This happened to me and countless others to the point some were pulled out of school due to the severity of this and if you DARE advocate for yourself, you will be forced into silence.

Another issue was the extreme lack of diversity. Caucasian is 90% of the student body and staff, which caused feelings of alienation.

The one good thing about this school were most of the teachers. Most of them really did or do try (did as in a large portion of staff were fired or resigned due to grievances with administration) but I fear this is not nearly enough to be worth it.

I find this school a disgrace to Maria Montessori and an utter mutilation of her teachings.

The negative reviews are spot on. I don't understand why this school operates, the owners don't seem to enjoy children, parents, teachers, or anything related to education other than suckering people into funding extensions to their school

Anyplace that leads orientation of new families with a "no gossip" policy before even talking about the curriculum has things to hide. Our kid was terrorized here, and didn't fully open up about the crap she dealt with until we'd left this school in the rearview mirror.

Avoid like the plague. There are lots of schools that are much more worth your kids' time.

CM is an all beige school that is lifeless and lacks personality. This school does NOT meet the needs of my children.

My children are very well advanced and well behaved and score 2-3 grades above where they currently sit as far as age.

This school was 2 steps back for all of my children.

Generally speaking they will gaslight you, talk in condescending tones and try to make you feel bad for not being a good enough parent over the smallest things, like messing up in the pickup/drop off line, or maybe you sent them to school with pretzels as a small snack. Which a better alternative suggested by the “healthy” overweight people is a “boiled egg or raw celery stalks” for your toddler.

The negative reviews are spot on we can attest, this school is a complete waste of time, money, and energy.

If you feel like these teachers or the owner has made you feel anxious, not good enough, in general just made you feel bad, I have a message for you.

They make your kids feel this way too, so do something about it.

The smugness of this school stands out in stark contrast to the quality of the education. The overall community isn't that great, or that welcoming. This is a group that is very happy with itself and isn't looking for new friends.

The academics are very mediocre. I know Montessori is more self guided, but I felt like I carried almost all of the burden of educating my kids while they were at this school. At times I questioned why I wasn't home schooling them. It would have been less driving. There's little if any art, science is only nominally covered, and there's no reinforcement ofa math concepts. Math relies on mastering fundamentals, but I never got the impression my child's teacher's got that.

Teachers were not concerned about anything at all during conferences. They always made me feel like I was a jerk for asking questions.

But the worst part of this place is that, if your kids have special needs, they do not exist at this school and the director of the school will employ every bit of negging, gaslighting, or other vindictive behavior to convince you otherwise. She doesn't want to pay to accommodate your kid, so your life will be hell until you relent or leave. She will meet with you, and your kids' teacher. She will talk to the teacher like a parent would speak to a 4 year old. Then they will conclude that all is well, and you just have to follow their program because there's nothing wrong.

It has taken me a long time as a parent to decouple from my anger so that I could objectively review this school. My son was a student there, for 1/2 of last year and several years previous.

In that time, he was made to feel inadequate. That he was "failing " as a person. His behavior should have been a clue to me that he was desperately trying to advocate for his survival at this place. The teachers and administration made us believe that our son was having serious behavioral issues that warranted evaluation and therapy. We had him evaluated for everything to the tune of many hundreds of dollars. The problem? Not our child at all but the school.

In my opinion, Community Montessori is an unsafe environment for children. In fact there was a day that somehow my son ran past several adults and classrooms to the outside of the building trying to escape them. When asked how he managed to make it to the outside...the school responded with.. "oh someone was with him the whole time."
Then why did they make sure to tell me that he ran out of the classroom to the outside as if he got away. Stories never quite add up at this place.

Another day I picked him up and he was shaking, crying because one of these "adults" told him that I would be mad at him for his behavior so he was terrified of coming home...his safe space. They don't offer a safe space and they will try to turn your home into an unsafe space for your child whether through lies or gaslighting. This place is not conducive to the social and emotional health of your children. Again, my opinion.
Mid-year last year, we removed him from that environment and he THRIVED not just emotionally but his desire to do well and achieve blossomed. He became the kid they tell you they will create in montessori.

I have lingering guilt that I waited so long to believe my child who was crying out in so many ways to be freed from that place. How can a kid tell you they are suffering when the adults around them remove their agency to say it? The crazy emails from Barbara alone should have clued me in far before the lightbulb finally came on.

Here's one tip..If a school doesn't have a library or media center with a dedicated and duly educated staff, run the other way. It's small but a real indicator to the health and available resources at a school that claims to serve the whole child.

We were told that our daughter, 8 years-old, was doing well in math and having no issues until we moved and were leaving the school. In our exit interview her teacher told us she was very behind and needed extra help. We took her to individual tutoring who said she was 2 grade levels behind in math. This school is a scam.

At a CM school you're probably expecting a fair punishment but thats wrong for here. The director speaks to kids in an antagonistic manner, and seems to promote doing bad things rather than preventing it. If something isn't fit to her views she does nothing or she calls you in for a "chat." More like an interrogation. On top of this, the education isn't the best, and it feels like anybody could be a teacher at this "school" because some teachers don't know how to help. Teachers are suppost to respect the student, and vise versa. Yet I've experienced a couple of teachers speaking to me in a disrespectful and rude manner as well as lying to me. On a positive note, there are teachers here who genuinely care about the student and know how to teach.

Wonderful devoted teachers. Unfortunately, they work in hostile conditions under an awful administration with zero transparency or accountability. Director does not create a safe environment for students or teachers emotionally, physically, or academically.

We have been part of Community Montessori since my children started school (pre-K and K) and they are currently in 7th and 10th grade. We have been extremely happy with our choice in selecting a non traditional school experience. Not only does learning happen everywhere in their school day (and encouraged outside of school hours), they are loved and respected as humans. The learning also goes beyond your traditional school subjects and again teaches our children to be helpers, kind and accepting members of society. The teachers go above and beyond and we are so thankful to them.

Learners can choose to create a sort of class for things that we don't have but would like to start. It's not always the best, but the teachers try to help out for things to run as smoothly and be as successful as possible. I'm not in this class, but in the high school there is a sign language class you can take as a world language option and it is learner led but an advisor does oversee it.

They have many developmental specialists to help out, but also as I've said earlier, teachers like to give an array of different assignments and work with the learner if they are having trouble understanding or need extra help.

They tell us if we can't work it out ourselves, that we can go to our teachers for support. Teachers will act as a mediator and they really encourage us to talk with our parents as well.

5/5. I've been having an amazing experience at the school. I am currently a sophomore taking a dual credit Spanish 101 class through Ivy Tech. My friends are great and I like the freedom we have with assignments that really lets us to choose what we want to focus on and excel at it. The Islands (12-14) have even been trying to create learner led occupations that teach us how a business works, how to make money and put it back into the business, and how to cooperate with others in a more workplace like environment.

They have several ways of letting us do work. For projects we can usually choose between a written response, something artistic, something sciency, or anything else we can come up with and get permission from them first. They know we don't all learn the same way and give us all sorts of assignments.

They remind us often how important it is to be kind to each other even if we don't agree. In the younger studios we're taught to respect each others space or if they ask us to walk away that we should walk away. I know many other amazing learners with unique, compassionate, and kind characters.

One of the things I truly love about this school is how wonderfully they have helped to remove the idea and the stigma that goes around being different if you have a difference in learning ability. We’re very happy with our experience at this school. This upcoming year will mark 5 years with our third child attending their first year. Our daughters are excelling at their own rate and through their own experiences and topics of their own choosing. I’m glad they have the freedom to choose their work and build their confidence before moving on. I’ve never approved of standardized testing or teaching to the test. There’s more to education than high scores and I can see the evidence in my home. This school is not for every student/family- you have to be able to throw everything you been taught through schooling out the window and really see your child for who they are. My children are very different and I love seeing their strengths mature and develop at their own pace.

We had a terrible experience at this school. I cannot recommend it to anyone with good conscience. It was a devastating developmental period for our student. The guide we had and the administrator, need to follow their Montessori training or quit calling it a Montessori school.

In our student's class (3-6 year olds), the head teacher was totally ineffective and did not make good use of, or often apply, her Montessori training.
Our student had difficulty assimilating. Very frightened. Nothing was done. Other concerned students were told to ignore our student. Our hearts were breaking. We were told she/he would be fine when she/he chose to. Had to have meetings with teachers to get any changes.
Never got the feeling she cared.
Little redirection occurs and then only for certain students.
Students allowed to not come to group lessons, repeatedly. Ours barely received any group or individual instruction.
Materials are often used inappropriately by students. Class room felt more like a day care than a Montessori classroom especially with many students using loud voices, running through the room, little completion of assignments and tasks etc, and once again no redirection.
We were terribly disappointed to say the least.

We've seen our daughter grow leaps and bounds since she started at CM two years ago! She's actually EXCITED to go to school every day—and begs to go when the school is on break. I love that they embrace her natural skills and talents and create an education plan special for her. She's showing a natural aptitude for and interest in math, and her teachers have recognized it and foster her natural desire to learn—without loading her with pressure that would suck the fun out of it. I feel like she'll never get lost in the shuffle here. Being part of the CM family has also given us, as parents, tools to make our home life a more peaceful environment. The school offers workshops and other parent education opportunities to help bring the school's peace education philosophy home. We love CM!

Homework is delegated carefully as to not take away from family time and outdoor play. In comparison to our friend's kids, ours have less homework and we're so thankful for the extra time for them to be outdoors and with the family.

Both of our children's teachers have taken a personal interest in our child's educational tract. Sometimes I wonder if they know more about my child than I do, which is exactly what I was hoping for in a program.

Since kids are taught to speak to one another about how they feel (with adult support) from a young age, I have not noticed much bullying. I know adults speak privately with kids about behaviors they notice and support those behaviors.

Each adult that has worked with my child has cared about him as an individual and therefore supported him with individualized goals to push him forward with his academic progress. These goals were often beyond the state standards so that he was not bored with material he already mastered.

The grace and courtesy curriculum has been wonderful to witness. My child speaks up for himself when he is mistreated by peers, but it is not in an unkind way. He has strong opinions about each person having value and having a voice. He is comfortable disagreeing with others and not letting that stop him from having connections with people.

This school caters to every child's way of learning. They are very hands on and the children learn responsibility and life skills at a very early age. I absolutely love this school and the staff there actually love what they do and they care about every single child's specific needs and are very responsive when needed as well as proactive of each child's needs. My son absolutely loves going to school everyday. There are no clicks, there is no gossip and bullying is not tolerated. I've had the pleasure of teaching at Community Montessori for five years. Like many others in the profession, I've wanted to be a teacher since childhood. After high school I earned my elementary ed degree, setting out on the path to work in a traditional setting because I'd never known anything else. Throughout my practicums I got red flags that didn't sit well with me. I felt strongly that there were systems in place that were not respectful to children. Finally, when I visited CM, I instantly knew I had found what I didn't even know I was looking for, and I joined the team shortly thereafter. Since that time I've earned my Montessori credential for ages 6-12, my Master's in Montessori education, and I'm currently working on my Montessori credential for ages 3-6.

Reading some of these reviews led me to share my own experiences. Now that I've been studying the Montessori philosophy for five years, I realize more than ever how much there is left to learn. I understand the rationale behind why we do what we do in ways I never grasped before. I constantly work to shed personal prejudices, and when successful, it becomes clear how strongly those prejudices affected my views of events, children, and adults. Being a Montessori teacher, first and foremost, requires great personal humility, and second, the observational skills of a scientist. I can't help but feel that the negative opinions others have expressed are at least in part due to not fully understanding the situation or the rationale behind the decisions made. It would be impossible to come into an unfamiliar environment and gain an accurate picture of what was taking place right away. I will say that where I am in my understanding right now, Montessori is, without a doubt, the best possible option for children.

I implore anyone reading the reviews on this page to keep in mind that each event is viewed through the individual's personal experiences and prejudices, and we all have them. We only know what we know. As a personal testimony, I will undoubtedly send my future children to CM, and both of my nephews are currently in the 3-6 program. I am so excited for the wonderful education that I know is in store for them. Just like any school, CM has room to grow, but I can guarantee that there is not a staff anywhere more committed to providing the best possible school experience for children and teens.

Wow, CM does this in every possible way! From the first days of school children work together, with the adult's support, to form classroom commitments that they agree are important for a successful school experience. When there is conflict, the adults support conversations between children, where they can learn to communicate respectfully and effectively, express their needs, and consider the needs of others. With enough practice, the children are able to then use what they've learned to peacefully navigate tough situations independently. The structure of a Montessori day and the co-teacher model allows the freedom for grace and courtesy lessons to take place whenever they need to with whomever they need to. CM knocks "soft skills" (I hate that term, but it is what it is) out of the park!

I was hired at this school in late spring, and when I went on a tour of the school l, I was surprised at how beautiful the environment was and I was enchanted by everything I was promised as a teacher. However, after starting training, I quickly began to see red flags. The director of the school says, "We don't make kids say sorry because they don't mean it." She also attributes lack of basic skills children should have academically to parents "setting unrealistically high expectations for their children." This is absolutely false. In my first week teaching there, I saw second and third graders who wrote letters backwards and used capital letters in the middle of words! As a reading specialist, this was startling to me. I was told by my "co-teacher" that I was not allowed to teach any lessons during the first month or two of school, and to only help remind students of the rules of the classroom. This concerned me because the children who were about to take the ISTEP had no time to review or prepare. The children of the teachers there are the most out of control children I have ever encountered. One child pushed another small child on the playground so hard that she went flying into the mulch and was crying. I made him apologize (disregarding the directors words), and when I told my "co-teacher" she didn't discipline him at all and told me "No one gets in trouble at this school. We will have a conversation with him later about it." (We never did). The children spend most of the day wandering aimlessly around the room or drawing pictures. They are not learning and the teachers there are not bothered by this. The first day of school, I did a read aloud after lunch and I was told by my coteacher that I wouldn't be allowed to do that anymore and the kids should choose three books to read on their own for 40 minutes. Many of our class couldn't read yet, and she was okay with letting them choose huge chapter books and didn't care that they couldn't read them. Her exact words were, "The only way to get better at reading is to read on your own." Again, as a reading specialist, this was a red flag. When I quit, the director was rolling her eyes and telling me I needed to stay another year and that I was unprofessional and breaking trust with the children. She had me in tears when I left the building. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN TO THIS SCHOOL! TERRIBLE!

We have 2 younger children at CM. Our son began when he was 4 and our daughter began when she was 3. I really appreciate that the children stay in the same studio for 3 years. By the end of 3 years the relationship between the teacher, student, and parents is so well developed. My son has a learning disability and he has always had a tremendous amount of support from the school. During his IEP conference every year I am always amazed at how deeply his teachers, the developmental staff, and the director know and understand him. Whenever I have requested a meeting with a teacher (or the directors) to discuss either of the kids, I have always been readily accommodated, even though they have very busy schedules. They WANT to be in communication with the parents as much as possible. I am so grateful they are in an environment that encourages internal validation rather than external, creativity, compassion, and graciousness. Every child on the planet is an individual; not just a statistic inserted into a bell-curve of achievement. Why should we accept one traditional educational paradigm for all children? After all, Fibonacci was considered a moron when he was in school because he didn't demonstrate learning the way the other kids did. But, if it weren't for his mathematical genius, we'd still be using Roman Numerals.

This school is THE epitome of why charter schools should not exist. The teachers are underpaid and under qualified and the same goes for the administrators because one of the perks of being a charter school is that you can make and enforce your own rules. Teachers here don't have to have college degrees. Administrators are placed in their roles thanks to nepotism and not based on their skill-set or educational experience. My child attended this school for 5 years until their learning disability was no longer welcome. The Director of the school has a knack for bullying out the families of kids with learning disabilities by making it impossible for our kids to succeed which is ironic since Maria Montessori started her schools with children disabilities. Again, a perk of being a charter school is that you can choose how you want to operate. You get what you pay for, folks. If you want a free "Montessori" education that is a watered-down version of what Maria Montessori truly envisioned for her philosophy then this might just be what your family is looking for. If you want to send your kids to a school where the teachers actually teach then send them to a real Montessori school that has taken the time to go through the accreditation process. If you're ok with mediocre then you might do just fine here.

My son has attended a local country public school, was held back because at the end of the year he was tested for glasses and needed them. No, he did not attend preschool either. I chose to take him out of that public school because 1/4 of the class was held back. I then enrolled him into a Christian kindergarten, the teacher asked me why he was repeating. She believed he should have been moved up. The church preschool and kindergarten closed and he went to a large Christian school, he loved it! The cost of the school and where we lived at the time became too much for us to allow him to continue there. My son then went back to that country school where he was thriving, but had to move in the middle of the year for our house finally sold. He then attended a very large and popular West Clark school. He hated it, I did as well. He was coming home with mounds of homework that the teachers at this school would give every night. A child who is in the fourth grade should not have to be up until 10:00 at night to get this amount of homework done each night. I then applied to get him into Community Montessori, I was elated! He has thrived at Community Montessori! He had many different experiences and some of these gave him anxiety at other schools and at CM he has become into his own man. He will graduate next year and after this year will have all, but 2 credits to graduate. Community Montessori allows the child to mature on their own time and guides them in this task. They do not try to guide their opinions from one to another, my child is a baptized Christian by the way. He has never felt his religion was attacked or bullied about it. I believe if you feel that strongly about religion and can afford it, go to a religious school. There is some great ones around that area, speaking from experience. My child is not the top notch student, but of course neither was I. By the way in college I had a 4.0 upon my completion. Many times children become young adults before they understand the need of a GPA. I will tell you, my child can clean an entire house, do his own laundry, truly loves and cares for others, and tries to be responsible in many aspects of his life. I do not worry about his actions when he is away from me. CM has helped support those attributes that he has learned here at home. The best thing I can tell you is go and see. Thanks

Advisors (teachers) are there with another Advisor in each studio. The ratio is one to twenty and each studio has 40 learners and two advisors. How many schools can you say has this? By the way they are both there ALL day.

Homework is not given at CM. The only way a learner has so called homework is if the learner did not meet their goals that week. Learners do have the opportunity to exceed in whatever project they are doing by doing more if THEY wish.

We have been at this school many years however are hesitant about continuing. We have had some great teachers there , however the past couple years I have felt like the teachers were burnt out. We had a couple of minor issues ( non teacher related ) and attempted to talk to Glenn , but I get the impression that he really just doesn't care. It is obvious he just doesnt even try to listen.

Our daughter began attending this school at 3 and she will be a 10th grade this year. As parents, we understood that this was a different approach to education. We both went to public schools and decided that this was a great alternative for her, taking into account that is would be a VERY different approach to our educational experience . Throughout the years, there were moments of panic when we looked at the state ratings,but the fact of the matter is, once we focused on how OUR child was doing at the school and not others, we were at peace! She does well academically and absolutely LOVES her School. We, as parents, chose not to get involved with the politics that are involved with ALL schools, but to focus on our child. She is a bright, articulate girl who has a mind of her own and a passion for life. What more could we ask for?!!! I do agree that this school is not for every child (or family) who wants or needs a more "structured" environment. That is not what this school is about and is not for everyone. It's about opening THEIR minds (not ours), to the obstacles and rewards of their own choices. Our daughter WILL graduate in 2018 and we will stand by proudly.

This is an amazing school. I have learned a lot in my 11 years of going there. It has gone through some rough patches but what school doesn't? This school is a wonderful place for all students and we are a small school so there isn't really any bullying, but if there is, something is ALWAYS done about it because our staff cares about the students wellbeing.

I have had my child at this school for 6 years. I am not an advocate of standardized testing. I am an advocate of Maria Montessori s philosophies and pedagogy. This school is a sorry attempt. It is run by a Director who acts more like a Dictator. As mentioned by other parents they have a strict, "no-gossip" policy which cripples parents from questioning anything the Director does. The school is not accredited regionally, nationally, or internationally. Teachers there don't have Montessori credentials or teaching certificates and most lack Bachelor's degrees. On top of this students struggle academically as well and when any parent expresses concern the family is ostracized and bullied out. A tried and true program would not be afraid to have accreditation.

I graduated from this school two years ago. I was there the year it opened; I never went to any other school. There were many times that I wanted to leave, but thought, probably correctly (from what I've seen of the other students who left after attending for a long time) that I would be ill-equipped to succeed in any other environment. My main criticisms are: *Abysmal test scores. Now, obviously, standardized testing is not the only (or the best) way to understand a child's educational development, but they ARE important. *Poor treatment of children with special needs. I can't even remember how many parents I've heard complaining about this. This school has neither the resources, nor the inclination to properly assist children with special needs. And the social implacations of this are huge: do not think for a moment that because the school is so "liberal" and "progessive" that the students attending will respond any better to this problem than the teachers. I have seen several special-needs children taunted, ostracized, and otherwise abused by fellow students. It is utterly sickening, and the teachers do little to nothing about it.

I'm a rising junior at CMS and frankly find some of these reviews insulting. It's not the perfect school but its also not the school for everybody. I do perfectly well here because I'm driven and want to learn and CMS provides school as a way to explore my interests rather than take time away from them to waste on AP Art History or something that I don't find as intriguing. If your child needs someone to drive them, some external catalyst to inspire them to learn, then CMS isn't the school for them and that's fine. However, the foreign language support at this is school is pretty terrible. They try to support you but they have no staff that teach a foreign language(though American Sign Language is very well supported, which is cool). Standardized testing wise I'd say scores are low because CMS doesn't teach to the test, as that runs contrary to the Montessori philosophy of being against standardized tests. Students don't even try on tests because they know they don't matter(though they should probably change that attitude when it comes to the SAT). The biggest issue is quality between classes. Some are amazing*cough cough* Sequoia*cough* but others are not challenging at all.

If you are considering this "school," then do yourself a favor and look into who Maria Montessori was and exactly what she believed. Because this school has a way to out conservative Christians through an annual "lesson" in which your child talks about what they believe as to how the world was created. Once they know where you stand, your child will be bullied by teachers and/ students and any time you assert your values, you and your child will be punished in discreet ways. Don't expect help from the director or staff who deem any complaint as negativity and who enacted a "no-gossip" rule to keep parents from communicating with each other - not because they're reaching for a higher standard, trust me. Because when you do start asking around, you find many other folk with the same experience. You can also expect your child to be at the very least one grade level behind their peers when you finally move them to a real school. After too many years there, I am now aware of their agenda and it is a very different type of education, not the kind any right-loving family would want for their child. But you know, they do promise good things and the building is pretty. Be alert and be wise!

First, do your homework on who Maria Montessori was and her true religious beliefs. This school outs conservative Christians using an annual exercise in which each child presents how they believe the world was created, then your child will be bullied by the teacher and/or other students. Requesting to opt out of any part of their curriculum will result in punishment. Any complaints are deemed negative and shut down by staff and director. Your child will be at least a grade level behind if you pull them to another school. My 6 year experience opened my eyes to their true agenda, which includes the LBGT agenda. Be wise, and move on.

I am a student at Community Montessori, if you are a prospective family, please don't let the rude, and hateful parent comments on here change your mind, because you have made a great choice (: CMS is an amazing school, it has guided me to be the amazing person I am today. The main reason parents withdraw their children from this school is because their child's ISTEP test scores are low, at CMS we find the right balance between focus on test scores and true meaningful learning. Time after time it is being proven how misleading test scores can be. Standardized testing is not an adequate measuring tool for a child's developmental success. I have never been around more caring adults in my entire life, every staff member in this school makes it their personal mission to make the students feel safe, comfortable, and welcome in this school. I am a motivated, responsible, smart, creative, respectful, insightful individual and there is no doubt this school has helped shape who I am today. Barbara and Glenn Fondren are two of the most caring individuals I have ever met. They are such smart, and educated people. To the bad comments: Reevaluate yourself as a parent, I feel bad for your kids.

This will be out last year at Community Montessori. My son attended this school from preschool and is now in the 6th grade. I began to have serious doubts about the school's academics when he was in the 4th grade but decided to hang in there based upon the representations that had been made to me by the director about how children progress at CM. Now, two years later, I realize that my son is behind his peers at other schools academically. My son has never received a negative report in any teacher conference. My husband and I have always been told that he is doing just fine with no concerns but when he completes grade level work at home (we bought him 6th grade work books to supplement his education at school), he struggles with basic concepts including the concept of hypothesis in science (my son informed me that "we don't really do much science in my studio"). I pride myself on being someone who is not easily taken advantage of but even I was sucked in. I send my child to school to learn the basics of what he must learn as defined by Indiana law and after 8 years at this school, I can see that it is not happening . Steer clear.

Please do yourself and your child a favor and read the reviews for this school before you consider it. I wish I had. I was not turned off by the poor test scores, because I am a believer in alternative methods of education and do not think much of teaching to the test. I dismissed the stories I heard from former CM parents as well because I thought maybe they just didn't understand Montessori and how it works in the long run, and I do. However, the negative reviews on this site are true in my experience. I really have nothing to add, it has all been said on here before. I just encourage anyone considering this school to think long and hard about it and not get romanced by the tour and the hype. Once you are on the inside, it looks very different. I must add that there are some wonderful teachers there working very hard and doing the best they can, and they are not the problem.

I graduated from here two years ago, after attending for seven years. I was so fortunate to have found this school, without it I doubt my life would be as successful as it is. This school is not for everyone, but I had a fantastic education that gave me a true love of learning. Montessori education is very different from the education normally received in public schools, so if your child is coming into the program in high school, and sometimes even middle school, it's likely too late for them to adjust to the Montessori method. This school has many issues, staffing issues, lack of security, inconsistency between classrooms, the director, but overall I was fantastically lucky to attend there and have the love and support that I did. It's not perfect, it underfunded and stressful to the employees, but it's miles above more common education. I have never met teachers that cared so much and worked so hard as I did there. Thank you Montessori, for such a great start.

Both of my chidren attend school here and while I don't think it is perfect, I do believe that it is the best option for my children right now. My son did not learn to read until he was in the 1st grade but he had no interest in reading and within two months of being around older kids reading, he was reading without any trouble and he loves to read and now, at 7, is reading chapter books. I spend a good amount of time at this school and have never in two years witnessed kids running up and down the halls or screaming or fighting. Both of my children, one in K and one in 1st last year, brought home work that showed they were learning math and reading and english and science. Having multiple parent teacher conferences throughout the year is great. It was in these conferences that we really saw all the hard work they were doing while at school. Overall I believe it to be a great environment for kids that want to learn and parents that want to be involved even if that involvement is only cleaning classrooms. What's wrong with cleaning classrooms? If your child isn't learning here it is because they lack motivation to want to learn and as a parent you're probably not involved.

Our daughter went to CM for K & 1st grade. I would not recommend this school for a variety of reasons. By the end of 1st grade our daughter still couldn't read...at all! After talking to her extensively, her dad and I discovered she was having problems with reading. Instead of helping her with the problems she was having, the "teachers" told her she was lazy and to sit by herself and "figure it out." We also leaned that she was being bullied and, after bringing it up with the "teachers," were told there wasn't really anything they could do unless they personally saw it happening. What kind of a "teacher" actually believes that 6-year- old kids can teach themselves to read and thinks that bullying should be worked out by a little kid on her own? What kind of a school administration can stand behind this kind of attitude? Luckily, we took our little girl out of this environment before it was too late and are on the road to getting her caught up academically and trying to build her self-confidence back up! It is my opinion that young children should be taught at least the basics in a safe environment before being able to make the best "self-guided" decisions.

I would rate this as a one star school, in fact, this is not a school but more like a compound,with kids being rated and some degraded even, made to feel worthless and ashame of who they are, not what was told in the observation walk thru. I agree with another parents comment on here that the director is a "crazy lady". She runs the school, while her husband runs behind her. Sorry but that school is not ran the way a school should be.No requirements for teachers to actually teach, kids learn on their own? Not much help either from the teachers. The only discilpine is "if the do not like you", they do something to eventually get you out. I feel BSU should stop funding these people. I was told from a relative I was making a mistake putting my children there.They were right. I can teach them more @home than they learn there. NO home work,or work brought home to view what your child is working on. I wouldn't recomend this charter school to train a dog. This is for lazy non caring kids/parents not someone who wants a real edu. This is a school that should not exist. After attending kindergarten here for an entire year there was zero progress made. I am not sure what they were doing all of that time, but it was not school work. I do know that my daughter brought home about 10 or more drawings or paintings a day, but there was not any academic work brought home. I removed my children from this wretched school and upon putting them in a new school we have been told how behind in basic skills our daughter is. Her first grade teacher is getting her caught up and has made us understand it is not due to a learning disability that our daughter is struggling, but due to a minimum of schooling last year. I wish I would have known before losing an entire year.

Horrible school! The "teachers" sit on facebook all day and do nothing. I went there for several years, half the time I played hide and seek with my friends. In HIGH SCHOOL. I did no work what so ever, if I did it was copied! I ended up leaving and was so behind by the time I got to a normal school. I know several people who have flunked a grade because of how behind they were. Do not send your child there EVER if you want them to be smart. This school MAY be good for elementary age, but not high school. The director is a crazy woman who wont let you say God, or even the pledge without going into a different room. Craziness, pure craziness

I am a student here at Montessori, I don't want to say that this school is a five star school but I will give this school a fantastic 4 stars. I have been going here for three years and LOVE this school. The reason your children don't learn anything is beacuse they are not motivated enough to teach themselves. We do not have "teachers" to teach us, we have dedicated Advisiors who help us realize what it's like to live and work in the real world. I suggest you send your kids to this school if they are creative and willing to teach themselves and others.

Absolutely the best educational option in our community. Unfortunate that some families are running from problems and find their problems follow them wherever they go. No one could spend a day at this school and not find how outstanding each teacher is as the spend time with every student. This school has high expectations for staff, children, and families - it is definitely not for every family. The family involvement is terrific - there are always parents in the building. I feel very fortunate for my child and my family to have this type of support for her education.

Poor academic quality and no discipline. Different treatment for different children (i.e. they function as a tribe, if you are slightly different from what the chief says your child will pay!) Teachers are not well prepared. The parent "involvement" opportunities are limited to housekeeping. I brought many projects, and they won't even listen what we had to offer. My child did not learn anything; and was so stressed out! one semester was more than enough! So glad that this torture is over! I agree with all the negative comments above. So dissapointed!!

Painful! This has been the worst decision in my life! Parent involvement is limited to cleaning classrooms, you have to pay extra to the teacher in regular school hours to read and do crafts. I seen the worst actitude from teachers. I found only one friendly and effective person in the school: Kim (curved desk). Waste of time and energy, nothing like I was told during the orientation with the liason :(

My two kids went here for three years and we had to hire a tutor to teach them for a year before we could put them in traditional school, they learned nothing. But the kids were happy because it was "fun" to go to school because you were really on your own. The staff thinks they know whats best for your kids and you know nothing. Please, if you are researching this school for a good education run away as fast as possible.

SURE WISH THERE WAS A SCHOOL LIKE THIS WHEN I WAS A KID. MY HS WAS GREAT BUT THIS COMMUNITY MONTESSORI SCHOOL IS A SHINING GEM. I was a student at this school for almost 8 years, the only reason I left is because I had to move. I will be honest this school is not for everyone this school gives a lot of freedom and some kids cant handle it. So there parents blame the teachers and the admininstrators for there children not learning well. Unless your child has other mental issues a school can not make someone go into deppression. Parents need to stop blaming Barbra ( The Director ) and Glenn ( The Family Laison ) for all there kids problems. Instead they should be teaching there kids to be more responsible with freedom. A school DOES NOT RUIN SOMEONES FUTURE. At my time at this school I learned very valuble lessons... Like not blaming everyone else for your problems and start finding the problem in yourself. For anyone who is looking for a school that is going to Teach your children life and acedemic lessons. As a long time former student. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL.

All of the "Bad" Reviews on this school is absolutely wrong. As a student to This school i have to say that it is a excellent school. I have more here then i have at a local "Public" School. We have the freedom to learn what we want to learn, though there is still educational guidelines within the school. There is still standardized testing, and the choice of work. I would say this school is a great choice for anyone who is wanting the freedom to learn!

This school is horrible, the instructors and director/principle (Barbara) are not willing to work with anyone. They are very demeaning to the parents and students/learners. No matter how many discrepancies are brought to their attention, the parent/student is always wrong. My child has been at the school for two years, he is brilliant, but due to the lack of structure/discipline, he has fallen way behind and now is suffering from depression. Thank you CMS for RUINING his future. My advice, DO NOT send your child to this school!!
