I can’t wait for my daughter to attend Walden! She’s starting Kindergarten, and I look forward to her continuing her education here through high school graduation. From Kindergarten to senior year, the opportunities Walden provides for creative, independent learners are truly amazing. I’m so grateful to be part of this supportive community that celebrates individuality and nurtures the growth and potential of each student.

This amazing school has an amazing school culture, phenomenal staff, fantastic communication, wide variety of opportunities for students to participate in during and after school, or maybe it’s the academic rigor ensuring students learn at high levels. We absolutely LOVE Walden School! This school encompasses everything a student needs to become a highly successful adult. If you are considering Walden School, schedule a tour to see for yourself! If your not considering Walden School, you should be. Our only regret, is not finding Walden School sooner.

5 stars all the way!! Walden has the most compassionate and caring teachers who are always willing to help. I feel so lucky to have this opportunity for my son to learn and grow in an environment that is always willing to encourage positivity, kindness, and care for every single person there. I appreciate all the extra academic assistance and support when my son has struggled. Walden is the perfect mix of guidance, structure, education, fun, adventure, and joy with every year he attends.

My high school daughter came home from a year in residential treatment, and wasn't doing very well. The best thing we ever did for her to was to enroll her in Walden. The administration was kind and thorough in making sure they could meet her needs, the teachers and student body are AMAZING. Thanks largely to them, she is THRIVING and excited about going to college (which she wouldn't even consider before Walden)!

Walden has been an amazing K-12 school for all three of my children. When we chose Walden for our children's education, we knew that our children would flourish due to the incredible, personalized attention in support of their academic, social, and emotional growth. What we didn't realize is how supportive, engaging, and close knit the Walden community is as a whole. My husband and I have made life long friends in addition to our children becoming confident, life long learners. We highly recommend Walden for anyone who is looking for a school that is inclusive, compassionate, and who will eagerly partner with you in your child's educational journey.

We absolutely love Walden! My two very different kids have both thrived in the caring environment at Walden School. If you are looking for a school with amazing academics, while also nurturing and growing the social and emotional aspects of your child, you should definitely check out Walden! The small classes mean your child will get the attention that they need, and never get lost in the crowd. The high school offers several AP courses and the AP Capstone Program to challenge the students who want/need that. They offer a ton of clubs and sports for all ages to help the students get further connected to the Walden Community.

As part of the administration team of Walden for seven years, I have seen the social-emotional and academic growth of students in all grade levels; their maturation and success as flourishing individuals are largely in part to skilled educators and emphasis on partnership with families. Walden provides a nurturing environment that welcomes students with different learning styles - the teachers are able to provide this attentiveness because of the small class sizes so every child feels valued. I can't wait for my own child to attend Walden!

Walden School is incredibly warm and nurturing while also being academically challenging. Our grandchildren attend Walden, and our whole family is endlessly impressed by the school. The teachers write narratives on each progress report specifically about the individual child. Our daughter and son-in-law feel like they are truly team-teaching and team-parenting their children with the amazing teachers at Walden. We couldn't be happier with their school choice.

Any child will benefit from a Walden education! Every family at Walden feels like a valued member of a loving community, welcomed and supported by the teachers, administration, and other families. Students' voices are heard and their passions are nurtured; plenty of academic, extracurricular, and athletics opportunities are available and the atmosphere of inclusion supports self-confidence. I cannot recommend Walden highly enough.

From the moment we first toured Walden it felt like home. It just felt right. The classrooms are all unique, and the small class sizes facilitate a variety of learning opportunities. The classroom doors open directly to the green space, which features a natural playground and outdoor classroom setups. The teachers seem to really love their jobs and they are so caring and compassionate. I could go on and on. Despite all of this, the decision to choose Walden was not an easy one for us. It’s farther from our home than some of the other schools we were considering, and the tuition is not insignificant for our family. But for us, it has been worth every mile and every penny. My son is now in first grade and we could not be happier with our decision. He is thriving and we truly feel like we are part of a wonderful school community.

This past year highlighted again how amazing Walden is. When the pandemic hit, and we had to switch to remote learning, the teachers adapted and found creative ways to keep the students engaged. With a class as small as ours (10), my son is able to participate and still receive individual attention, even when meeting via zoom. We are asked for feedback frequently and our teacher is very flexible and responsive. Even while teaching remotely, teachers and staff were working diligently behind the scenes to get and keep the students in the classroom at every safe opportunity. Every day I get to drop my son off at this classroom door I am thankful for Walden – for working to keep the school open, for keeping my son safe, and for supporting us every step of the way.

Walden has been an excellent fit for my daughter! My daughter started out in first grade at a top rated JCPS school that we thought would help her excel. However, after only a couple of months the school did the exact opposite for her, it made her lose confidence in herself and cause great anxiety for her every morning. A friend suggested Walden--we toured, and then immediately enrolled our daughter. The school is very accomodating, meets EVERY SINGLE one of our daughter's needs, individualizes (not every child learns the same), has begun to build back her confidence, and she is now doing well in areas that she was very far behind in while she was in JCPS. I can't speak highly enough about Walden, their teachers (her teacher), and staff! We, as a family, are so happy that we found the perfect fit!

I am a community member and I truly think Walden is one of the best-kept secrets in Louisville. A real gem of a school with faculty, staff and administrators who care so deeply about the individual child. They have a focus on experiential and project-based learning so that students are engaged in their learning. Walden brings good education back to its roots while simultaneously moving it forward through its incorporation of technology and 21st century teaching practices. I have a background in K-12 public education and often volunteer with the school, so I am keenly aware of how their practices are above average. As an independent school, you're going to get that private school level of attention at Walden without the elitisim that many traditional private schools seem to have. Can't say enough great things about Walden!

Hi, I am a parent here and the experiences are amazing, although there are some things to point out

1. The new catering: I'm happy with it but they really did not give us a choice of what we want to eat for the first day.
2. The fact that we are in-person and staff and faulty are getting covid, I REALLY REALLY encourage the school to go NTI (Remote learning)
3. The safety measures are very good, the fact they don't have it below, ill just give it a 5

In conclusion, I think it deserves a big 5 star

As an employee at Walden for four years, I have seen the best qualities brought out in every student. They are encouraged to be global stewards and compassionate individuals - in addition to the challenging, comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for life beyond school, they are instilled with the values of self-confidence, kindness, and social responsibility.

Posted: February 25, 2018

As a parent, it was eye opening. The inclusiveness we were sold on during the tour is not reality here. This school has a long way to go and will need to make major changes in leadership, including diversifying its administration, in order to grow. They'll need a lot more than a trying-too-hard-to-be-cool administrative team to compete with areas schools that have so much more to offer families.

Posted: February 25, 2018

Posted: February 25, 2018

For the most part, the teachers here care about the students.

Posted: February 25, 2018

How much integrity, compassion and respect are expected is directly proportionate to the amount of money donated by the family.

Posted: February 25, 2018

Administration and the school's board seem to be too focused on generating donations and desperately trying to be "hip" in a highly competitive private school environment. Current students are low on their list of priorities, unless it's contract-signing season.

Posted: February 25, 2018

Children of large donors are easily accommodated, even if the school isn't the best fit for the child or other children are negatively affected.

Posted: February 25, 2018

This can depend on the student's last name.

Academics are adequate but the social scene is a different story. Favorite families are obvious and it is not an equal learning environment.

Posted: February 5, 2017

Walden is a great school but change is needed. It's stayed pretty stagnant for about 6 or so years with no real developments. Parents have far too much control because of small staff size and reliance on donations. The parents are an issue for sure, 90% butt their heads into everyones buisiness and create an unfair environment for kids in that they become school favorites the their children can essentially do no wrong. Small student size also means favorites galore. Basically, there is no grey area at Walden, they like you too much or they ignore/punish you for petty things that other kids with donating families do. I have gone to Walden Kindergarten through high school and there's also little variety in classes. One general art but three AP sciences classes, a little silly for a "fine arts" school. However, I really do love Walden but whether that be because of long exposure or genuine good time is an interesting question.

I believe Walden is an excellent school and Louisville is lucky to have such a place. The teachers really care about the students and will take time to help them if they need assistance. Our student wasn't doing well in the public school system but when transferred to Walden began to blossom. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you want a top notch education in an environment that encourages students to have a love of learning, think for themselves and be independent thinkers, this is the place.

The students love their teachers so much, this provides an atmosphere where they want to do good work for them. I also feel they go above and beyond to help solve any issues or problems the students may be having.

Not pleased with our experience, bullying is a real problem amoung students and parents. Academics are good but not sure if we will return after this year.

In partnership with families, Walden School provides an educational environment - both academic and social - that fosters a lifelong enthusiasm for learning and challenges individual students to reach their full potential so they may flourish in a diverse and changing world.

Walden is the best private school in Louisville. My children started in kindergarten & one has graduated HS, the others plan to graduate from Walden too. The small class size allows teachers to know each student & give each student individual attention. If the student who transferred to another school is struggling to get decent grades something else must be going on. Walden teachers are great in preparing students for the top colleges, I can't see not being prepared for another school. My high school child says the best thing about Walden School is that students are "challenged every day". No one is held back, students who need extra help are brought up to a higher level. How to rate a school? Are students safe, happy at school and learning advanced work? Are parents satisfied with the education? Are the teachers qualified, passionate about their subject & have freedom to teach? Do the student like their teachers & the teachers care for their students? Does the administration listen to, work with & include parents? At Walden the answer is YES to all of these! Walden is a family school centered on helping students lean to to be well rounded, successful adults of the future.

When I left Walden and moved to a different school, I felt very behind. At Walden I excelled and had straight A's. At my new high school I am struggling to get decent grades. Walden has not prepared me for the real world.

Posted: April 30, 2013

My son is in 5th grade at Walden. He has been there since Kindergarten. He has blossomed academically and socially. The school instills a thirst for knowledge, an understanding of the importance of community and core values that will make the children responsible, engaged members of society. In my book, for my son, it doesn't get much better than that. Also, with impressive incoming new leadership, great faculty and land in the heart of St. Matthews, I believe Walden's future is bright.
