I'm so impressed with their approach to encourage the younger students with the help of the older students. This isn't just a school; it's not just a Christian school; it's not about just the faculty; it's not about just the students; it is ALL of this and more. Like a huge FAMILY, that teach manners and respect. Students will say good morning to those they pass in the hall. Just my child's first year, but I'm already planning out the next 12 years.

I highly recommend the Academy for Individual Excellence (AIE) in Louisville (Jeffersontown), KY, especially if your child does not do well in a traditional school setting. Our son started at AIE last year after a bad experience with virtual school at his public school during the pandemic. He had fallen behind academically and also struggled with high functioning autism. While his public school teachers (including an autism specialist and a counselor) tried very hard to help him, AIE has made him positive about school again. He resisted going to school (when it was in-person) from pre-school through 4th grade, but last year in 5th grade at AIE, things started to get better. Now, in 6th grade, he's doing great and doesn't resist going to school anymore.
We like AIE so much that we transferred our 3rd grade daughter there and my wife got a job teaching there. While the academics are not "Ivy League prep," AIE has relieved much of the stress and anxiety my son felt about school before and he is catching up well after the pandemic. AIE's school setting is not for everyone, but its unique approach to learning and Christian values have been very helpful for our kids and family.

I feel that my child did not receive a good education at this school.

Homework is not given in elementary school or in middle school.
Posted: November 2, 2020
Most of the elementary and middle school teachers do not have a degree in teaching. Most teachers are parents of children that attend the school. As for high school a degree is required.

I do not feel that leadership is effective when it comes to discipline. The school believes in corporal punishment and continuously pushed medicating my child.

This school is great for a child with learning disabilities.
Posted: November 2, 2020
This school does not tolerate bullying at all.

After our parent tour we immediately knew this would be the perfect fit for our son. Our son started this year and we could not be any happier with the progress we have seen in him. The environment is like no other. And our son would not have gotten the same experience in the public Middle school.

When we interviewed AIE as a potential environment to help educate and raise our son, we knew that we wanted exactly what we had not been getting in the public-school environment. We wanted him to be educated and challenged based on who God created him to be, rather than being expected to act and perform like the standards set by the public-school system. What we got by making the choice to enroll in AIE, was far better than I expected. He has an extended family who have kept his very best interest in mind from the day he entered the school. Believe me, he has provided them with many "opportunities" to show us who they really are at their Core. You can believe every single word you read when visiting their website, and every word you hear if you have an opportunity to visit the school. He is receiving a great education and is learning everything he will need to excel in whatever career he chooses for the future. Until next year when he begins Highschool he is not required to complete homework, instead we are encouraged to provide opportunities for personal growth through REAL WORLD/REAL LIFE experiences and time with family. They understand that in the evenings there are many opportunities for personal growth found by helping the family, helping neighbors, cooking meals, playing games together, or being involved in a team activity. Although they are a small private school, they do provide great options for extracurricular activities through sports clubs like baseball, basketball, & archery; along with opportunities to become involved in school plays, and musical programs. For us, the most important lessons our 14 year old is learning, is true accountability, he's being taught how to develop healthy relationships, how to communicate effectively so that people will hear and understand his message, how to respect and understand the perspectives and differences in others, and what it feels like to have teachers and staff genuinely invested in your future working hard to help you become the very best version of yourself. The inspirational principal of AIE, John Savage, understands what our future adults need for personal success. His passion & desire to share that vision with the AIE staff, the students, & the parents is evident in everything he does.

This is an amazing school and a perfect fit for our daughter. We knew immediately that this would be the best place for her. We pulled her from another school as soon as we could make her enrollment work logistically. We have never regretted our decision.

Fantastic! We couldnÂ’t imagine having our kids anywhere else. ( 4 and 7) our son has been here since he was 3.
Posted: April 16, 2020
More focus on family time at night and on weekends. They encourage us to teach our kids practical things at home such as cooking etc.
Posted: April 16, 2020
They have been beyond helpful to us in everything with both kids.
Posted: April 16, 2020
This is true, there is a focus on character, helping one another.
Posted: April 16, 2020
They take a focused approach, know every child in the school by name and spend time getting to know each family.
Posted: April 16, 2020
They teach in a way that kids learn. My son has been allowed to work ahead and study things that interest him in sponge.
Posted: April 16, 2020
We have not had any issues, anything that has come up was immediately addressed.

I was so stressed with the many hours of homework after having my son in a public school for so many years. This school was so refreshing as it teaches during school hours. No homework for young children and when they do start giving homework to middle/highschooler it is a reasonable amount. They even encourage parents to assign homework for your child. Make them research something and tell you about it. What a great idea.

They have a sense of family stuff this school. Kids are taught to respect, accept and help everyone no matter their differences

Because of their family vibe. And the way that the entire staff seems to know every student I feel makes bullying not an issue at this school

My son graduated from this school several years ago. As a parent I couldn't have been happier for my decision to send him there and we lived 45 minutes away, but it was worth it. We initially sent my oldest due to concerns with ADD but we loved the school so that we sent our youngest who had no difficulties, my youngest only did about 2 yrs there because he wanted to be on a golf team in highschool and that required him going back to a public school but he to this day will tell you himself that he was very happy at AIE and liked the learning style better than public school.
They teach basic life skills and preparing them to be accountable, responsible, independent members of society upon graduation and I feel there is nothing more important. My oldest son who graduated from AIE left home at 19 and got his first apartment, he did some college classes and was successful with them but decided he didn't want to stick with it and says he may go back eventually, and he might, but I have nothing to complain about because I think college is important, I have a college degree myself but I think being an independent, accountable, decent human being is most important. He is intelligent and happy, he enjoys travel and has a continued thirst for knowledge and has never needed my help since the day he left home because he is responsible and works hard and has understood the importance of "living within your means" and that he is an adult since he graduated from AIE. I think that is more than most kids get from school even if they do go to college. And that makes me very proud and I credit much of his success as a caring, productive member of society to AIE!!! What a great school!
I still tell everyone with kids about it because we were so happy with this school.

I attended AIE my entire life...I went on to receive my masters degree, graduated summa cum laude, and now own 2 very successful businesses. I had every tool that I needed to enter the collegiate world and then continue on to the business world. This school is many things to many people. For me, personally, it instilled a work ethic, sense of compassion, curiousity about the world, and thirst for success that most other programs simply can not instill...The Academy is a family. It's a place where children are loved and taught to love themselves. It's a home for students from all walks of life, with a wide variety of abilities, all reaching for the common goal of achieving their individual best. My children now attend there and all are thriving and doing exceptionally well. I will raise them to become productive, caring, confident citizens who go on to change the world and AIE will play a huge role in helping me instill many qualities I find admirable in a person. Growing up at AIE, I did not have homework until I was in eighth grade but I can tell you that when I went to college, my work ethic surpassed my fellow classmates who attended public school. Homework doesn't teach work ethic; it simply takes away what has the potential to be positive family time. Homework is not needed for academic success. Work ethic is needed for academic success. Take a child who has done hours and hours of homework with no work ethic and they will fail. Take a child who has done no homework but has been taught amazing work ethic and they will succeed. The goal of the Academy is to set children up to be successful in life, not just at tests. I am thankful for the many qualities that I have that have made me successful as a mother, a wife, a business owner, and a person and I owe that success, in part, to AIE!

I have been a part of AIE for many, many years. I have never seen a time where bullying occured. The staff is so aware and involved that all situations brought to their attention is resolved. They help coach children through tough situations and allow everyone the opportunity to be heard. Mr. Savage works very hard to keep this from happening at AIE.

They do not assign homework till 7th grade and then it is minimum. At highschool this changes with the focus on preparing each child for after graduation. They encourage you to give your child homework to strengthen the skills your child needs. This also allows you to teach life skills that every child needs. I especially like this method because I can enjoy my family time at home without the stress of homework each night. My children play sports, learn to cook, read each night, etc... All things that I feel are valuable lessons.

I absolutely love this school! I am an alumni and chose to have all 3 of my children attend AIE. They put alot of focus on making the school feel like family. They encourage each child to achieve their best and allow everyone the opportunity to feel successful. I love that they encourage a strong work ethic and allow each child to reach their potential. As a parent I appreciate that they challenge my children to do their best while teaching them to have compassion for their peers. I attended AIE for multiple years and really appreciate the way our highschool program was set up. It allowed me to be prepared for college and taught me to manage my time effectively and to continue to give my best in all situations. I also learned effective study skills which was a tremendous help. If you are looking for a school that allows your child to be a part of a family, that focuses on work ethic, engagement, accountability, and compassion for others then you will love this school. Mr. Savage has a great understanding of children and helps every child achieve their best. A wonderful place to help your child learn and grow as a person!

I am from out of state. My wife attended this school and we chose to move back to Louisville so our children could also attend. I can't give AIE enough credit for what they do. One of the first sporting events that I went to I saw a very athletic player for AIE finish a drill and Sprint back down the field to help a special needs player finish up his drill. This moved me very deeply that a high school player had enough awareness about his surroundings to be able to recognize that every person should be respected and that he had an opportunity to step up and be a leader. This is exactly what AIE teaches......Every person is important and that everyone should give their best. I went to a public school growing up and I always studied just enough to get the grade I needed/wanted. At AIE they teach work ethic so you don't have time to be concerned with how little can I do to get by. You are ready and prepared! I really wish I could have went to a school like this growing up and I'm glad that my children do. John and Teresa Savage have dedicated their entire life around this school and it shows in their actions and throughout the entire staff. If you are looking for a school that will feel like family and home this is the place for you.

Only effective when the child being bullied has behavior or social issues. If they are the ones doing the bullying the other students are advised to ignore it.

If your child isn't getting homework you want to at least be comforted in the fact the schoolwork is teaching them something.
Posted: February 14, 2017
If your child doesn't have social or behavior issues I would not recommend this school. If you are looking for an alternative to Public School this is NOT the school for your child. They will end up behind academically in comparison to the kids in public school. In the 8th grade my child was doing work she had learned in the 5th grade!!!! No homework until High School and even then it pales in comparison to other school structures. The school is geared to the children with behavior, social or learning difficulties. It should be designed ONLY for those students as it does a HUGE disservice to children that have none of those issues.

We do not have homework until 7th grade. It makes sense because children have been in school for 8 hours. You he been at work for 8 hours. The last thing you as a family would want to do is fight with a child at 7pm just to do homework. It's about quality family time after school and work. Like it used to be many years ago.

We LOVE this school. It's perfect for our family. We do not want any of the JCPS schools in Louisville and then also we did not want a religious school either because that's my choice as a parent to teach my children about God. So this school was perfect fit. They have a different style of teaching. It may not make sense to some who are by the book on everything. But my daughter started kindergarten this year and I can not believe the difference in less then a month that she's been here. She comes home everyday telling me a new letter and how it sounds with a sing to help her remember. Along with the oceans all over the world. She's 5... it's amazing. Best school in Louisville! !!

This school is superb!! I couldn't say anything wrong with this school. It simply amazes me how much the staff is so caring and making sure your child is set up for success! If you are thinking about having your child attend this school..don't hesitate it. My son started there in 7th grade and I wish I knew about the school sooner!!

The teachers make sure your child is set up for success. The classes are small so your child gets plenty of one on one education. The school is regular education but do have some special needs needs children which makes it diversified. My son is on the autism spectrum I couldn't find a better school meeting his needs. Also bullying is not tolerated. This school is more than a school it's more like a family. I am thrilled my son attends this school. Best decision I have ever made concerning his education!!

My child struggles with many things in her life and we have tried many schools, none have felt right. Once we found AIE we knew this was where she had to be. Everyone in this school from admin to the students treat each other like they are a part of your family. We felt so good about what they are doing with our daughter that we moved our son from parochial school and placed him at AIE, and he has excelled. The environment is one of inclusion and love. I never thought that I would be able to have all my children, both typically developing and delayed, in the same school and have this feeling of peace every time I drop them off. Many people have a false idea that AIE is a place for children with learning disabilities or other challenges, and I thought this as well at first, but have now learned that AIE is a school for kids, not special kids, not typical kids, but all kids. They allow those with more needs to grow and develop to their fullest potential in an environment that is nonjudgemental. More importantly they allow the typical child to learn while at the same time teaching that it doesn't matter what people look like or wear but what matters is treating everyone with respect.
