So I think that kcd teaches good things and is a good school but the problem is that they changed the start times to 8:30 every day but on wendsdays it is 9:30 and this doesnt work well for my dad because he is a doctor and he has an assigned schedule that is hard to finesse so he has to drop me of at school earlier every day and it was so dumb that they changed the start times because of what I have stated and the fact that there is activities you can sign up for after school but since the start times are later the after school activities are earlier and it makes it so on every day I have after school activities it makes it so I have too go to Bearcat den and stay there longer and I think it was so dumb of kcd to change the start times and they should really change them back so kcd if you see this please change the start times back.

This school seemed very promising to begin with. However their ethics are at best questionable. Every student entering here was screened by a students parent from Mind, Body Child for any OT concerns. In turn, they wanted to provide services for those children.
Additionally at this school a first grade teachers method for disciplining a student misbehaving was to make the whole class run outside. This teachers new role is math specialist.
The administrator at this school also shows preferential treatment to students who attend synagogue.

My child loved this school while he was attending. We thought we would be lifers here but things changed drastically.
Here's a few pertinent things to note if considering this school:

- You WILL be treated differently by administration if you're on financial aid.
This means there is little to no tolerance for any mistakes, altercations, or disagreements with another student.
- The claim that they accept everyone is a LIE. The administration has an elitist attitude and treat anyone who does not agree with their political and
social stance as if they're a threat to their school. If you are conservative in your values, you will not have it easy with administration. They do not
accept everyone and do not like when you stand up for what is right for your child.
- Bullying is not resolved. If a family gives more money to the school than you or considered a school favorite, your child will continue to suffer while
the other child receives no reprimand. It's awful to watch the favoritism there.
- They do not communicate with you. They will tell you nothing about situations that may arise with your child and take their own course of action
without involving you. There is no partnership - they want to raise your kid their way.

All in all, there are other elite schools to consider. For 24k a year, not worth the headache. Spend it at Collegiate or other Catholic schools in the area. They're all a much more viable option for your child's development.

Wonderful community of people with lots of opportunities for involvement. The teachers are fabulous and truly seem happy to be there. Amazing playgrounds and facilities. We couldn't be happier with our kids' experiences here!

When we moved to Louisville we simply chose KCD because it was one of two schools that were recommended to us and it was convenient to work and home. The red flags started during our first year, continued throughout, and when there was a significant change in the administration paired with the pandemic, it became untenable to keep our kids there. Red flags included 1) not dealing with bullies consistently or well, 2) favoritism toward certain families/students, 3) mismanagement of community-wide issues of freedom of expression. In general, the teachers are great, but that could not make up for larger issues regarding the school environment. Our kids are much happier while still achieving academically now that weve left KCD. We are thrilled to no longer have to deal with the school as well.

We moved into Louisville hoping to find a great school for our children. After several years, what I noticed is that my kids became depressed. The culture for middle school is toxic. The students are close-minded, lack social and economic diversity. One kid told my child the who got student aid and who didn't. What made that worst is that the kid was a child of faculty. Teachers are bias and the kids are not welcoming of new students...especially kids who enter after 3rd grade. They have cliques. Overall the students made my kids feel like they did not belong.

I'm a current parent and a former educator. Both my children have attended KCD since Kindergarten. I can't imagine sending them anywhere else. They are both active in sports and the arts and are challenged academically every day. I know they are safe and happy when they are at school. The teachers reach out if there is ever a problem--before it becomes a big problem.

KCD is so impressive. We have been here a year and have found the culture engaging, the teachers passionate and committed, the administration knows what it is doing, and the opportunities endless, whether one is seeking challenging in arts, athletics, academics. Problems are dealt with pronto. Kids feel both nurtured and challenged!

We've been here since JK, and now have a 6th grader and freshman. The diverse curriculum, caring environment, and extra curricular opportunities have helped our children grow in ways that we never could have imagined. We are so grateful for such an amazing place!

KCD offers the best academically in the state of KY . A family feeling exudes from the campus . They want the very best for our kids and give that to them each day . I am loving being a Bearcat the 2nd time around . Once as a student now as a parent .I am a Bearcat for life .

I have two students at KCD. One is currently in middle school, the other is in lower school. As a proud product of the public school system, I never expected to send my kids to private school. In fact, I used to poke gentle fun at people who paid tuition for Kindergarten. Then I had my own kids. My older son began K in a different school. We soon began noticing that it wasn't the right fit for him. He moved to KCD mid-year and we've never looked back. My kids have different learning interests and styles. The faculty at KCD has met their needs and exceeded my expectations at every turn. Every day my children have the opportunity to excel academically, play sports, and participate in Fine Arts. The faculty is caring and knowledgeable. The parents are involved and willing to volunteer. KCD is a great community!

I expect more from a private school than what the local public schools offer. The only good is that your children can hang out with other kids from "decent" families - upper middle or rich. Teachers are hit or miss, the school is not able to keep current with the trends in education despite the laptop program. The high school may be slightly better but the middle and lower schools are a hogwash, where the admissions staff mask several administrative issues and if it weren't for Asian kids, even the academics wouldn't look as good. Athletics are not as competitive as other big name schools, so there is the rehash of old results. Fundraising is constant and it appears the funds are going more toward hiring administrative people than to teachers. Parents' involvement also varies, not much better than public schools (given the size). The lack of dress policy is another issue. Makes us wonder if there are other schools to consider, I guess the only plus is near the east end.

My daughter is now attending kindergarten after completing pre-K last year at KCD. Overall I like KCD and so does she. She enjoys going to school there and gets truly upset if she misses a day. The teacher/teacher assistants have always kept me engaged with her studies and how she is doing. My involvement is continually solicited which is great as parents should be involved with their students education. I also enjoy the fact that there are several after school programs available for my daughter including Bearcat Den. The teachers in these programs have also been very helpful as well. It appears that KCD is also doing a great job of embracing diversity within their student body. While I know that the cost is quite high, I don't worry about her education.

The teachers seem to to a good job with the kids, but more feedback is recommended. Ask me what my child in the lower school has done in science and I have no idea. When u ask the teacher, she will refer you to a website of the school, but that doesn't really give you much. Maybe in 3rd or 4th grade it's different. But overall a good job with education. The reason for 3 stars is lack of vision by the school. They are simply focused on fundraising. Everyday is a nauseating email to give to this or that. If it was balanced with emails about their academic vision, I would be ok with fundraising. Another reason for the 3 stars is the lunch. Let's just say it's a step up from fast food. The kids eat horribly. Everyday, they all get a desert. Today, it was hotdogs. KCD, here's what you need to do. Make the kids bring their lunch and if they want to pay for a hotdog, chocolate milk and a desert , then so be it. Then, you could save yourself the $625,000 (yes, the school actually had a sign on the carpool line that they spend this much on feeding kids as part of their fundraising). If you save the 625k, then you could stop acting so desperate for money and focus on education.

Kentucky Country Day School has excellent teachers and leadership! The atmosphere is positive and encouraging. KCD's motto "Citizen, Scholar, Steward" is integrated into the curriculum and overall KCD experience, preparing even their youngest students to reach their academic potential and be productive and contributing members of society. The children have a wide variety of opportunities in the arts and athletics. The drama and musical productions are phenomenal as is the strings orchestra. I'm so glad that my daughter has the opportunity to attend this wonderful school.

KCD had been amazing for both of my children. I have one in the middle school and one in the high school. There are many options from sports to theater arts to the many clubs that the children can get involved. The classroom sizes, teachers and overall education is well worth the money for our family. Keep up the great work KCD!

My son attended KCD Kindergarten through graduation. I can't say enough good things about this school. The teachers, the close-knit community, the general feeling of caring throughout the school was just so special. I was shocked to read some of the negative reviews on this website which is why I'm submitting this review. My son was a very quiet, shy Kindergartener who flourished in the smaller class sizes throughout his years at KCD. He was constantly encouraged both academically and socially. He graduated as a National Merit Finalist and earned a full 4-yr college scholarship. He's currently in his first year of Medical School. I can honestly say that Kentucky Country Day School gave him the foundation to be the successful young man he is today.

This school is full of a bunch of bullies and kids that are not very kind. I shadowed this school and was disgusted by the behavior and education. In math class we had one problem to work on all day. ALL DAY. I am a happy student at Louisville Collegiate School. LCS is a much better choice. We dont have cheaters or bullies. Our education is far beyond what KCD could imagine. Collegiate is viewed as a school that only has rich snobs, we are not snobs. We work to promote diversity and happiness. Our head of school, is the best one in the world. He has exceeded expectations even though this is his first year. Collegiate is the best school in Kentucky. It is a no-brainer to come to Collegiate. A safe, smart, and diverse school fit for any kid with any needs.

this is funny all these people talk about how great the teachers are and the school and their curriculum. I guess if you dont want your child to believe in GOD it is a good place to go. or if you want your child to be taught to be a bully and think and act like they are better than everyone else then its a great school. if your want to teach your childrent to cheat at sports its a good place to go as well.

In response to the user who said that KCD does not accommodate students with ADD/ADHD- that is completely and absolutely not true. I have moderate ADD, and accommadations were and still are made for me without drawing any attention to it. A close friend of mine has pretty severe ADHD, and the same solutions were offered to her as well.

I went to KCD from kindergarten till 6th grade. The years in kindergarten trough 4th were great, but then going into 5th grade I was started to b bullied an it was harsh and I was bullied even worse in 6th grade because a new student arrived and joined the bullies and made me feel even worse about my self. I would recomend it for lower school but in middle school is when u start being bullied. Oh and in middle school the teachers start to not care as much they leave you on you own and don't try to help and if u have ADD or ADHD, they will act like they care and let you take test in the library but there are always classes going on in there so its just as noisy! So I would not recomend this for middle school but would for lower school. -Former KCD student

I have been part of the KCD community for seven years now. I went to a public school before that, and I must say, I can't imagine there is a better school. I have been a part of seven plays, and have won five state championships for sports since I have been here. The teachers are amazing and can help whenever you need it. We are all so close, and I don't know anyone that I would want to leave the school. We all know we get made fun of for being "white rich kids," but we know that we also have the opportunity to go to the best school in this area. In many of the sports I play, KCD offers extra programs where we meet kids from all the other schools interested in that sport as well. I am so blessed to be here, and I never want to have to leave.

My daughter received an outstanding education at Kentucky Country Day. She is prepared for any college that she decides to attend. The school has a close knit family feel lacking at larger public schools. The teachers are available for extra help if a student needs it. There has been very little of the school problems that could derail a child's education, such as bullying, drugs and alcohol. I do not know of any teenage pregnancy problems in the K-11 years my daughter has attended. Not having to worry about social issues clouding my child's education has been a major comfort in my life.

KCD, coming from an A+ student, is a challenging school. Their academics are some of the highest in the state. The teachers are very encouraging but have specific teaching techniques that don't work with all. Their athletics, on the other hand, are not very good. Very few varsity teams have won state in a long time even with the great facilities. They have invested much time and money into the Fine Arts and theater programs, which causes these programs to be very good. Everything at KCD is very tight knit. This, for me, is a bad thing. I am very social and love meeting new people. Most of my friends are from other schools. Very few students from KCD know maybe 3 or 4 people from other schools. They are very close with the 60/70 kids in our grade that we've known since Kindergarden. You develop a good bond with these people but don't experience new things or meet new people. Coming in high school would be a problem for even the most social person because most "cliques" are already formed and exclusive.To be honest, KCD is made fun of by all other schools. Their the "rich, white kids who don't have any friends". Now I love my KCD friends, but I want to know more people than just them

To "rate" an institution such as KCD could prove difficult. I attended LCD for 4 years, graduated 1970. Most of my yuppie brethen, although disenfranchaised from one another, have done well--assuming they followed the prescribed course. That "course" required a "followup" of the post-LCD/KCD networking guide of "success," arguably based on an academic assumptions--a good deal of them became lawyers, others: CEO's-- Wasn't that the cookie cutter expectation? When I walked off of the campus for the last time, graduation day, I never looked back-- 4 long miserable years--finally over. A recent class reunion--even after 40 years-- proved what I suspected all along-- the arrogance still persists with the majority. However, the assessement here on my part is flawed by looking at the results of the school as opossed to the institution itself. For the "others" like me, maybe those of some artistic inclination, or musicians, life after CD wasn't rosey. That may have all changed by now, and I hope it did.
