We absolutely love this pre-school! After trying another nearby school we found this pre-school on our 3rd child. Wish we would have found it sooner. The teachers are wonderful, the community close knit, the learning play based (no boring ditto sheets here!) and the snacks all healthy. A stark constrast to our previous school. My daughter is learning and having fun while doing it! Isn't that what all 4 year olds should be doing?

This is a wonderful preschool and kindergarten program, with loving, dedicated, and enthusiastic staff and director. It is a Reggio Emilia inspired program, that emphasizes arts-intensive learning through play and child-motivated inquiry, and nurtures and promotes the development of children's executive funtion skills, which are so vital to later academic sucess. The children have so much fun that they do not realize they are learning, but they are. (I know, because two of my children recently transitioned from the HPWS preschool and kindergarten programs to elementary school quite well, and were ahead of their new classmates in terms of reading and math ability.)

Can't disagree more with the March 20 review. I've had kids at HPWS for 4 straight years, and they've done very well in elementary school. They also said they "didn't learn" there, but the big secret is -- they ARE learning, but they're having so much fun they don't know it! All the research I've read on preschool supports a developmental, learning-through-play curriculum like "Hi-Ho" has. So, yes, if you want your child doing ABC worksheets and coloring in the lines, send him somewhere else. But if you want a high-interest, child-centered, creative, and caring environment, apply to HPWS.

My child loves going to school here, but he says this is a no learning school. The school is very focused on free play and is child directed. If you are looking for an academic component to your child's preschool education this is not the place for you. I feel as though my child will be behind as he enters kindergarten.
