We really liked the school until a school safety problem came up. When the issue was communicated to the principal, she lied and gaslit us. She did not solve the problem and swept it under the rug. No accountability whatsoever. Lost all respect for her.

My son just finished his six year experience at Greathouse, and I could not be more grateful that he was given the opportunity to attend such a wonderful school. I teach at another traditional school, and I was always blown away by the amount of attention given to each individual student at Greathouse. Teachers give excellent feedback and communicate clearly on a consistent basis. Expectations are clear from day one. It is a very challenging, competitive academic environment that encourages students to value hard work and success. While the academics are outstanding, the values and self-disciple taught are equally impressive. It may not be the best fit for every child, but if your child is given the chance to attend, consider yourself lucky!

Overall great experience. Curriculum and teaching methods are great. But kids feeling pressure with the pace and restricting them to talk.

Best education strategies and very competitive environment. In addition to that school should encourage for sports to enhance kids mental health.

My son is a 4th grade student at Greathouse and our experience has been wonderful. I can't say enough about the teachers. They have been amazing! It can be challenging for him at times with all that is expected but that's what we signed up for. They keep him engaged and have offered extra support when it's needed. The expectations are exactly why so many students are thriving and reaching their full potential.

I couldnt be happier when we got accepted here. My son attended this school two years in a row, but he didnt enjoy it. They cant be kids here. They cant even talk or laugh during lunch time because their colors will change. Lights are turn off at the lunch room if they are talking. I was disappointed of the traditional program but at JCPS they convinced me to attend Audubon. It was the best decision ever. Do not send your child Greathouse.

Teachers only teach for the state test. I don't feel like they are interested in making sure the students understand.

Principal seems uninterested in the kids. I have seen her ignore her students as they walk past her in the morning on their way in to school. I would at least think she would say hello or good morning.

Your child needs to fit in their box. They are looking for kids who do exactly as they are instructed, no questions asked, no room for meaningful discussion. If your child struggles with anything they will not address it here and you cannot expect any help.

I would not put another child through this school. We only went here because we wanted our child in the traditional program. If you are considering moving to this district so your child can go here to school, I would suggest trying for one of the other traditional elementary schools. This school is a great introduction to the prison system, if you suspect your child might end up there then you should consider this school.

We just finished our first year there with our son in kindergarten and my wife and I couldn't be more pleased. Mrs. Davis runs a tight ship just as someone in her position should. She's a no-nonsense leader and I have the utmost respect for her and the way she runs this school. There is a time and place for everything and schools must be a place of discipline and respect.

We've had many conversations with other parents and they were all equally as pleased as we are with Greathouse.

As soon as our son graduates from there I wouldn't strongly suggest Mrs.Davis for superintendent of Jefferson Co.

Greathouse is a great school! My fear after my daughter was accepted into Kindergarten was that it wasn't going to be fun, but it is! Yes, it is pencil to paper, but it is also hands-on and creative and interactive. It is a traditional school, so there are definitely rules. Not every child will thrive at the school, but you will know it after orientation. Parents must be involved to make it a successful journey for your child(ren). The staff and teachers that we've encountered are wonderful and supportive. I am so happy to basically be saving thousands and thousands of dollars that would have otherwise gone to a local private school - for the same education and atmosphere!

Greathouse is great...simply the best! Runs like a well oiled machine. The teachers have high expectations and they expect parents to do their part at home. We were told up front at orientation what exactly to expect.

Greathouse is a dream school! Our daughter is in the first grade and thriving! She comes home with so much to tell me each day. Although it is strict, that doesn't mean they don't have any fun. She has had many "hands on" activities to learn. The staff is wonderful--I appreciate that so many of them know my daughter by name. They also have a very involved PTA, after school activities, and several evening Family activities each year. My daughter tells me all the time that we better not ever move because she wants to go to Greathouse clear through 5th grade and wants her younger brothers to go there, too. We are waiting to hear if our son will be selected to be a Kindergartener next year and are praying he gets in! We love Greathouse and couldn't ask for anything better!

I have two kids and Greathouse both polar opposite. For those that have knocked the school and taken their kids out...good riddance. It is challenging and offers great structure and a learning environment. It does not offer "AP" classes but the gifted are grouped and taught at their level. I'll take the free public education Greathouse offers over any paid private school or anything else Jefferson County has to offer.

My third child is still at this school-both older ones already went through. We did not have any issues whatsoever with this school. We got what we told we were going to get (the principal told everyone at orientation and she doesn't mix words or play around) We got a free public education that could give any of the private or parochial schools in this area a run for their money. My kids were extremely well prepared. I do not understand why some people let little things build up rather than addressing the issue. If you don't get something from PTA that you paid for then for heavens sake have the good sense to speak up and ask where it is! We have found over the years, and we've been here for a decade now, that those who don't "fit" are the ones who don't have the commitment to making academics the #1 priority in their home. Yes, you have to work and study to meet the high expectations in this school but the end result is worth it.

This school gets great test scores because they only want a certain type of student - those who do not fit their mold are forced out. My child had great academics but a big personality and was marked down on behavior so much that he was labeled a behavior problem. He was even called out for asking questions appropriately! Other teachers started calling him a "bad kid". There are plenty of other schools that have great teachers, good scores and encourage well rounded personalities while respecting differences in learning! Also had massive problems with the cliquish PTA!! Gotta love when the PTA steals money from you and never delivers t-shirts and sweatshirts! Glad we are out of there!!!

Your child will be forced to learn at this school and their statistics are great, however keep in mind that they get the test scores they get, not through a nurturing supportive system but one of fear of being "exited" from their program. Incidents of violence or bullying are not reported and handled poorly internally. Several children in my child's class were attacked physically and verbally and then were only "talked to" by the guidance counselor, who will tell you there are no problems with these things at Greathouse. Middle of the road kids who do not mind hours of unnecessary homework will do great in the environment here, but if your child is gifted or struggles this is not the school for them. I personally loved the structure of the rules, however they are inconsistently and prejudicially enforced.

Hello All, I am a parent of a fourth grader and she is currently waiting on her results to see if she will be admitted into a gifted program. However, we do live in the district for GSTE. I would like to know if anyone can give me any tips or suggestions in getting my daughter transferred to this school. We are not satisfied with her current school and there lack of quality teachers and teaching curriculum. She was also bullied several times and the situation was not handled very well by the school staff. Please let me know anything you can share to make this process a success. Thank you in advance!

My child is in kindergarten at Greathouse and I couldn't be more satisfied with what he is learning. My son went to pre school for two years and his first month at Greathouse he had to adjust to some of the rules about behavior. He now knows what to expect and is enjoying school every single day. I enjoy hearing him tell me about his day at school and what he is learned. Just the other day he told me why there are 50 stars on the American flag and 13 stripes. Greathouse is a great school.

My student left this school extremely well-prepared for middle school. I was told upfront what to expect in this program and it was my decision to buy in and to support the philosophy of the program. Academics are number one in the school, but all of my child's needs were addressed. I was concerned that there wasn't an advanced program, but she was definitely challenged. Caring teachers, great administration-greathouse is a great school, but like others have also said it is not for everyone!

This is my first year at Greathouse and my children love it! I have a daughter in 4th grade and a son in kindergarten, and I have been very impressed. My daughter learned more in the first six weeks here than she did the whole year at her last school. It is definitely not just sitting at a desk doing papers. They do many different things, and both my children have so much to tell me when they get home each afternoon. It is true that your children have to behave, or they will get in trouble. It allows the teachers to teach rather than spending time trying to control the class. I volunteer at the school as much as I can and every time I am thanked by many staff members. When I volunteer I see happy, well-behaved children. Traditional school may not be for everyone, but my children feel secure, are learning a lot, and are happy to be there.

My son, who is considered "active" by those who know him, is currently enrolled at Greathouse and we love it. He has thrived with the routine and structure and we are very happy with the teachers, principal and staff. Yes, this is a structured environment, but my child is by no means sitting in a chair for the entire day. He loves it and I know that we made a great choice for him. I also enjoy that parents are encouraged to volunteer at the school, so I feel like I can volunteer and get a "behind the scenes" look at the school which I am always impressed with. I am a firm believer that not every school is for every child, but Greathouse has been a wonderful choice for us.

My child attended this school before we couldn't take it anymore and moved him to another school. Greathouse is a great school if you hope to raise a narrow-minded, non-thinking, but mostly well-disciplined child. Many of these reviews say the school is not a great match for those with learning disabilities. I agree with that. It is also a poor choice for those who are at the other end of the spectrum. Greathouse focuses on extreme discipline, lots of homework that is mostly busywork, rote memorization, and standardized test prep. They do not allow gifted children to get ahead nor do they do much by way of encouraging critical thinking. Having different ideas or beliefs is discouraged. It is a great school if you're child is average academically and you would like them to work unnecessarily hard and get yelled at so much that they stop asking questions -- even the ones that would allow them to grow their brains.

My child was enrolled at Greathouse from 2005-2009. Although she made good grades and tested well, she was not thriving in the school. The school strips children of their individuality, tends to focus on negatives rather than strengths, lacks diversity and is strict to a fault. The teachers are incredible but they are stifled by a militant principal who is not supportive of teacher, student and parent needs. If your measure of success is test scores, send your child to Greathouse. We moved our daughter (she was not kicked out or asked to leave) and we are now seeing her grow into a well-rounded student and citizen. Her love of school has returned and she is much happier.

My daughter is a student at greathouse and we LOVE IT!!!! The school had a meeting before the school year even started stating that this is not a school for everyone. This is a tradition program and it is optional. The reason parents put there child in these types of programs is because they do not want them to have to go the school and be disrupted by the students who are not acting correctly at school. As the other reviews stated this is a strict school....which to me is great...why should my child have to suffer because your child needs "individual attention"??? If you are not a parent that is willing or able to have a structured home and lots of rules for your child then this is not the school for you...if you are a parent who wants this for your child then this is the best school!!!

My daughter is finishing kindergarten at Greathouse and I have very pleased with the quality of her teacher, the school facilities, the PTA, staff and principal. My daughter loves school and is already looking forward to first grade. I have the read the unfavorable reviews and am surprised by them. This is not a Montessori school, this is a traditional school - expect it to be very similar to what it was like when we went to school in the 80's. There goal is to take an average group of kids and help them reach their full potential. I would not send my child there if they had any type of learning disability. The principal had a meeting before school started and set very reasonable expectations on how she ran the school and how things were done. I felt very prepared for the school year and simply obeyed the rules.
