We have had two children graduate from Atherton, both in the International Baccalaureate program. The IB curriculum is rich, deep and diverse AND is respected by colleges and universities around the world. Our youngest daughter was a student during the pandemic, graduating in 2021. We were awed by the dedication of the entire Atherton staff--from teachers to counselors to administrators, in supporting students through the pandemic and helping them to overcome terrible circumstances to succeed.
Both of our Atherton graduates went on to top private universities on the East coast. Their IB diplomas and experiences at Atherton were key in their admissions.

Some teachers have an outlook that is incredibly realistic to homework and others are very tyrannical expecting a lot in small amounts of times and this can affect grades. For example, my English teacher expect a college-level essay completed in one night, I proceed to receive a 63, and was not allowed to try again.

It kind either teach you to depend on personal connections with your teachers or kill or be killed mentality.

The principal is only concerned with his own self-image, assistant principals threaten students to ge them to do as instructed. Counselors are good for the most part for academic reasons, but for mental health which is a huge issue at Atherton.

I'm am the class of 2020, in my 4 years at Atherton I've seen many things that stand out from other high schools. An overall feeling of unity among students, a school spirit that is crazy contagious, and a committed student body. But also in my 4 years at Atherton Dr. Aberli (the principal) wasn't present for my underclassmen years (9th&10th), and those years seemed to run much more smoothly than when he came back. We had a complete overhaul of the administration in 1 year. With one of the new assistant principals coming from my former middle school where she taught english. 3 new counselors with one of them only being at the school for one year. This overhaul was due to the fact of Dr. Aberli's return back to Atherton. In the two years that he has been "my principal" he rarely develops relationships with students, compared to the principal during my underclassmen years. Dr. Aberli as well has decided to invest over 1.5 million dollars into the academies which will benefit a small amount of student body. That 1.5 million will be used for 3 classrooms, which will destroy the history of our building. Atherton is a school that has received more and more interest as its name has grown and grown and this has made Atherton incredibly overcapacity. With not enough bathrooms for students, not adequate technological resources available for students and faculty, increasing issues with facilities, and an outright obvious additude toward the issues throughout the school by the administration. This school used to be THE school to go to, but more and more it's going down the drain because they've gone away from their roots. I hope that the time that you and/or your student spends at Atherton is beneficial as it has been for me, but I pray that the administration gets their head on straight.

Atherton is a hidden gem in the Highlands. It has a very accepting culture and we have found almost every teacher to be engaged and focused, not just on education but on knowing their students as well. Coming from catholic school K-8, we were thrilled at our decision to send our daughter to Atherton.

I thrived at Atherton loved it in every way possible, was involved with soccer and learned things that I would not have learned anywhere else. I would recommend Atherton to any parent but only if their child has a strong moral compass because I found it hard to find a group of kids at Atherton that I could relate to that didn't do drugs. There are alot of drugs going on there.

My daughter loves it at Atherton. She is currently a senior and will graduate well prepared for college. She left the traditional program to attend Atherton. While it was the scariest decision we had ever made for her academically, it turned out to be the very best decision we could have made. She has wonderful teachers and a great principal and staff. Plans are for the next child to attend as well.

It is a wonderful school that really cares about it's students. Children and students who are "unique" really excel here. At this school there are really no cliques or real high school drama. Our principal Dr. Aberli really cares about our school, and is actually loved by students. Its a fun place to go to school, and even though our football team is lacking every high school event is filled with students. I would recommend anyone who wants to go to a school that will care about you and your academics should come visit Atherton and see why we're great.

I am currently a senior at atherton, and having spent almost four years there, I can safely say this is the best school I have ever been to. Atherton is the most unique school in JCPS. We offer a wide variety of courses and academic levels. Atherton has both AP and IB programs. IB (International Baccalaueate) is an academic program taught in over 140 countries. It is cosidered the world standard in education. The teachers at Atherton are excellent. They are highly skilled, and really care about the students. They are devoted to providing the best education possible. I have become very close to a lot of the teachers. There are also 5 foreign languages at Atherton, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese. Atherton also has a diverse student body. We have a large number of exchange students and ESl students. Our school comunity is very close, and there is no descrimination of any kind. There are all types of people at Atherton, we have large percentage of gay, lesbian, and bisexual students. Students love Atherton so much, they often come to visit after they have graduated. I really love Atherton, and will miss this school when I graduate. I hope you can enjoy Atherton too.
