My son couldn’t be happier when attending Audubon. Principal was very involved while we were here. I was ready to pull out my son from the traditional program but moving here made me believe in the traditional program again. We only left because we moved out from Kentucky. I would likely recommend for your children to attend Audubon. We still remember our wonderful teacher Mandy Ridenour.

My family loves Audubon. It is a bit out of our way, but it has been worth it. As Ms. French-Coles used to say, it's not for everybody. If your child likes to be wild, or is a free spirit, or loud...look elsewhere. Also, students wear uniforms and can't color their hair, which is a bit unusual in JCPS schools. That is not to say kids don't have fun! It's just more structured than other schools. If that is your child's personality, it will be a great fit. Some parents will send their kids to Audubon hoping to change their personality, but it can only do so much.

Although kindergarten homework can be heavy, it is because teachers need to ascertain where everybody is and get them on the same track. Other teachers give homework as a "packet" that students can complete at their own pace-typically a set amount each day, but making accommodations for days when it may not be as easy to fit it into a student's schedule (afterschool activities, illness, etc.).

Without exception I have seen, all the teachers are very involved and responsive to questions from students and teachers alike. They are accessible, explain things well, and are not punitive in their discipline. If you have a question or concern, you can write it in your child's agenda or send an email and they will call or write you back right away.

I knew Audubon was the right place when I came to the school for a tour and the kids opened doors for me. It is that sort of place.

Overall, the students are good kids. I attribute this a lot to the traditional program, which is a magnet program and so the parents made an effort to send their kids there. A lot of ones in the area opted for Audubon because they didn't want Camp Taylor, which has low average scores due to the high numbers of disabled and ESL students, but that's not really fair. If you try hard and listen to your teachers, you will do well.

The principal and assistant principal are kind of new, but they have finally settled in and are doing well. For a time the principal was asserting her power by reassigning teachers to different classes and subjects each year, but she finally listened to them and is keeping everyone to their strengths.

The guidance counselor is completely useless and not very smart. She likes to look fun and cool by dyeing her hair purple, but she needs to spend more time learning compassion and less at the salon. If your child has a simple problem, she will pass the buck to a professional therapist outside school. If your child just wants a sympathetic ear, seek out a caring teacher instead, because the counselor will make them feel worse and guilty for asking.

At the classroom level it is great. If your child needs a tutor, the principal will send home a note and organize a group. If your child has trouble seeing, the school will provide an assistant. The speech therapist is very well liked too. Students are treated like everybody else and not singled out because of their differences.

Unfortunately, the go-to person for IEPs is the counselor. She has no clue. You will have to do much of the work yourself to get that ball rolling every year.

When Ms. French Coles was principal we loved the school. However since new principal in place, some things have changed negatively. She is not engaged with the students and I feel like discipline is non existent. Also siblings are not allowed or given any preferential treatment at all which forces a lack of participation since you are split up in multiple schools. Also no real music, arts, foreign language. The only bonus is a couple extra curriculars.

My boy is in Kindergarten this year and this school is really great. I love everything about them. The teacher is great, principal and asssistant principal are amazing and friendly.

Audubon Traditional Elementary School has for the last six years been home to my 10 year old fifth grader. My son has not just learned the value of education but he has also learned to be a model citizen. As a graduate of Audubon and the traditional school program, I believe that this school is continuing to turn out the best and brightest students in Jefferson County and educates parents as well on how to be actively engaged in your child's education.

We LOVE this school. They are about working hard and being your best while also having fun. The teachers and staff are caring and really work hard to help each kid thrive. We live kind of far away but wouldn't trade schools for anything!

I Love this school. My son started there this year in kindergaten and he is learning very quickly. His teacher works hard with him and his classmates. I would say this school is by far the best I've seen.

Audubon is an awesome school and Ms. French-Coles is an amazing principal! My expectations have been far exceeded.

JCPS needs to observe Audubon and make more schools like it available for more children. Siblings should be allowed to automatically enter to keep families TOGETHER . Having children in different schools does not work!!!!!!
