Save your kids and yourself by NOT sending them to this school. The teachers are bullies. Their bus system is a joke. The pick up and drop off times range from 15 minues to an HOUR! They do not inform if a bus is running late and whebn you try to get a hold of anyone there is no answer. The office ladies are also bullies and call parents that fight for their kids "Karens". This school should be shut down. Or better yet just find all new staff. The grade of this school shows! Low test scores!

Cochrane has been a good home to my daughter, the teachers and staff are dependable and the school is very convenient for my family. The school overall isn't great, but I can honestly say that my daughter had been lucky in having the best teachers in the whole school!

I love this school. We moved from Westport rd and I was worried about him going downtown. I was worried for no reason. He has learned more with Mrs Flowers in the first month of school than all year last year at Chancey elementary./Mrs Hines kinderg. Mrs flowers cares and makes learning fun. Mrs Hines did not engage the children for some reason. She is nice when you talk to her but she gets nasty with the kids.
We are so thankful for Gavin Cochran elementary. My son is reading, confident and successful. They are awesome.

We have had a great experience with this school I've had 3 kids there and one more to go when he starts kindergarten. If I ever have any issues or problems I feel comfortable to call and they are very helpful. My son graduated 5th grade there in advanced classes and is going to Noe middle school I am very pleased.

I want to share my experience as i saw its rating is 2 i am surprised....My son was in a gifted school in florida with rating 10 but i am not satisfied with the teachers and the school then we moved here and i saw the ratings of the school here so initially i felt bad but when i involve with the school through my son i feel much satisfaction. And i am so happy that he is in a great school and he went last year kindergarten with Mrs Phelps , she is a great teacher, she always pushed his to do his best and ,also he was going to 1 st grade for math and readings with mrs william. She always encouraged him a lot. This year he had a new principal, Mr Hobbs he is very enthusiastic, energetic person and a active member of school all time i saw. The school has a strong PTA and extra art club , spanish club and lots of activities throughout the year. I am very much happy for my son that he is in a perfect school for his early adolescence devlopment. As he need a competent, independent , self aware and involved in the world beyond his families and Cochrane elementary is the right place for him !!!

My girl attended this school 2 years, and it was a great experience, teachers are so good, compassionate and they really pay attention to all the kids, i had several conferences and they were available all the time. Also they have a very good communication system, they send the daily report for us to sign, and reading log.......PTA did an awesome job this year, lot of activities and parent involvement......just loved this school and so sad that she is moving!

Great staff and lots of opportunities for activities for children. Children are respectful and happy to be at school. The school has a chapter of the National Junior Beta Club!

My daughter attended this school for only 3 grades Before she was threatened by a 5th grader that she was going to kill her! Luckly, that one student did not show up the next couple of days! Also my daughter has been through a ton of bullying, but the teachers and staff did nothing. If you do go here I would suggest you see how horrible it is for yourself!

The teachers at Cochrane have provided our daughter with tremendous opportunities and an environment to excel far beyond her current grade level. The new media center is providing enrichment opportunities for students who may not be afforded the same opportunities at home. We are excited about the collaborative approach taken by teachers to partner with parents in their children's education. Extra-curricular activities (music, dance, sports, etc.) are continuously being added and improved, providing great opportunities for children to get more involved and develop talents and much needed social skills that will prove invaluable later in life. The only criticism we have is regarding the removal of the CEP program. This program provides onsite before and aftercare care through the YMCA of Louisville. With the removal of this program, children still in need of these services must go to another school site and then ride the bus to Cochrane. As the parents of an elementary age student, we would prefer not to have her ride a bus just for childcare purposes.

We are pretty content with Cochrane. It is clear that most teachers love what they do, and there are a few (luckily) of them that shouldn't be in the education field. Principal is a good leader, but I think she could do so much better. The weakness of the school is the poor parent involvement. Some parents just participate in school activities for the free food, and they do not seem interested in doing anything else. I think these parents need to be taught the virtue of giving back. I like the new library, I hope the kids have plenty of oportunities to use it for educational purposes.

This a small school, located in a safe area in J-Town. The principal is a very personable and caring person. The kind of principal that greets the students during morning carline. The school has a diverse group of teachers, and it offers special education programs. The school has a brand new library! You won't miss it when you visit the school. Basketball and Cross Country are the most popular sports at Cochrane.
