This school is amazing. There are opportunities everywhere, most teachers, especially for more advanced classes, are excellent and very qualified. I prefer going to school than staying at home just because it is a fun experience. Other reviews complain about stress because that is the only thing they can complain about- but that is the point of the school- to EXCEED standards. It is hard work for a good purpose.

DuPont Manual is the reason I feel my success today. I got into an Ivy League after Manual, and felt like the school really prepared me for the academic level in college. Their science fair program has been the reason I've been able to seamlessly transition into an entrepreneurial life - because I had to figure out many things on my own, which is something that the fair encouraged me to do. I didn't enjoy the early morning commute, but that's really all I have to complain about. Otherwise I felt like my classmates were some of the smartest, nicest and most fun group of people I've met in Louisville!

so first off, everything about the school is very emotionally oppressive, making you think that you're not good enough if you're not the best. if i stayed at this school i would've not been able to graduate. Diversity is boasted as a benefit from attending the school, but the student race stats are similar to most other high performing schools in louisville. im not sure if this is just me as a former mst student, but its hard to get into he school spirit when you're worried about homework all the time and not having the time to go to any games or participate in clubs. I wish I joined a club like BSU instead of having to hate the school for the dim atmosphere during the actual school day. its important to have a balanced academic life as well as social life, and going here creates a system where you have a VERY loaded academic life, and may have to balance it out on your own with making your own time to have fun. However, this instead results in a duality where you become a procrastinator with a large distaste for work, or a somebody who works all day and develops many emotional issues from isolation. i was unfortunately the former, and had to switch this year after dealing with this attitude of mine and the school for freshman and sophomore year (Along with NTI!). The 2020-2021 schol year, it was especially dreadful. Any joy of school that was there before as gone. You could barely talk to anybody, and literally everyone was stressed. And, you felt it, that was the worst part. I could go on and on but the school all in all is just depressing. Really depressing. I'm glad others enjoy it more than me though.

Manual is a great school for those that are independent, disciplined, and committed to their education. The teachers are overall very knowledgeable and genuinely want their students to succeed. I graduated last year and still keep in touch with several of my old teachers. The workload is extremely heavy, especially if you take a lot of AP courses, so plan on spending a lot of your evenings doing homework for hours. On the flip side, if you do take AP courses, it can take a semester or even a year off of your college career, saving you time and money if you plan on seeking a postsecondary degree. If I had one major criticism of the school, it would be the administration. The principal and some other administrators are often nonresponsive to student concerns and complaints, and in my experience, the interests of the student body are not usually taken into consideration when making decisions that affect them. The guidance counselors are also often unhelpful and are basically there just to serve as college and career consultants rather than helping students that are struggling with mental health issues. While I don't claim to speak for all students, it's a very common opinion among the student body that the leadership does not prioritize students' mental health and is laser-focused on getting the highest test scores possible and ensuring that their graduation rate remains at or near 100%. However, no school is perfect, and overall, if you are in a position where you have access to good mental health services and are confident in your ability to manage a school-work-life balance, Manual is a great place to attend.

I loved attending dMHS. I felt prepared to go to college and have since graduated and will be attending graduate school. I was able to take a variety of courses that suited my interests and future goals.

I wasn't bullied at this school. Due to the diversity here, everyone was more accepting of differences. Very much unlike my traditional middle school experience.

I went to JCTMS and felt so stifled by the traditional program and PRAYED I would get in Manual. I did (yay!) and I never wished I had gone anywhere else. The class work was challenging, yes, but I felt freedom to choose what to study. I was in HSU so I would have more opportunities to explore all that Manual/YPAS has to offer. I took accounting, modern dance, AP Government, fashion design, business law, theatre, etc. I was involved in extra curricular activities and I LOVED Manual! I never didn't feel like going to school because due to the block scheduling, I never felt like I had the same day twice. Now 11 years post graduation, my fellow Manual grads have made differences in the world and we are confident that it's due to our education at Manual. We were prepared for college, academically, personally, and creatively. Manual is not for everyone, only the most focused and driven students will thrive. If you are the best of the best, Manual is for you!

You will hear that you have skipped high school and gone straight to college level here and it is true. The kids here are here to learn or excel in their Art form. It is hard to get in but get your child on track now. Montessori or self directed learning programs will NOT prepare your child for this school. Lots of homework and Lots of opportunity.
