I loved my time at bloom and i think it is an amazing school

Bloom Elementary is the most overrated school I have ever experienced in my life. My daughter attended for first through fifth and our experience with teachers, administrators (especially the counselor, Jessica) and other parents was nightmarish. My highly intelligent, funny, rambunctious child was ultimately ostracized by the entire community, which I had tried so hard to be a part of and grow around her. Seeing that Olivia was different and not a typical kid socially, I went to extra lengths to be involved, both in the classroom and in extracurriculars- all I ever met with were obstacles, suspicion, and snobbery. Although I was always present, available, open, and actively trying to connect with people at all levels of the school, I was shunned right along with my daughter. Once Olivia got to middle school, we learned that she is on the low end of the autism spectrum- which I had to personally research as a layman and figure out by myself. All of her teachers and the counselor treated her (and me, as an extension) as a problem- despite her high intelligence, which was undoubtedly boosting their ratings on state testing and other measures. There was no compassion there for us whatsoever. It's a pretty building and everyone seems to be really nice up front, but in a school that's 75% white and unabashedly elitist, I would discourage anyone from bothering. Their good reputation is undeserved.

Bloom has many incredible, committed teachers (and a couple of duds). Overall, the environment is nurturing and compassionate, which is exactly what kids need at this age. The style/feel of the school is in keeping with the Highlands neighborhood -- quirky, progressive, creative, fun. I'm glad we chose this school for our two kiddos.

I can't say enough good things about Bloom. My son is in the third grade. The teachers and administration are not only very kind and wonderful but also very responsive to any concerns. The principal, Jack Jacobs, is extraordinary. He knows most students by their first names. We are looking forward to our daughter starting kindergarten in a few years. This school has kept us anchored in our neighborhood. A+

bloom elementary my son is in the second grade there. he loooves to go to school he reads at a fifth grade level. the teachers are great.

This school is just great. Teachers are not only nice but very dedicated to these kids. The principal is open to suggestions and is very caring with the kids. I can say only positive things about Bloom Elementary School.

I have been very pleased with this school - most all of the teachers are very talented and have a passion for teaching and truly care about their students. The principal knows every student and does a tremendous job of keeping everyone focused on what is best for the students - and balances all the demands of a public school. It has been my experience that she is available to parents when they have concerns. The class sizes range from 24 to 30 students. This is not a magnet school so there are a wide range of students with different abilities. Most parents are very involved in the school and there is a large group who volunteer to provide unique enrichment activities for the children both during school and after school. My children feel safe and happy at the school and feel as they are an important part of the school community.

Overall, I am happy with Bloom. Most of the teachers are very nice, but I do wish they would differentiate more. Class sizes are too large (sometimes 35+). The principal's personality has changed over the last two years and many parents are not supportive of her. She does not support a lot of parent involvement and can even be hostile at times. I don't feel like she connects with the student population. Bloom is changing and not for the better. If it weren't for the teachers, my child wouldn't go to Bloom.
