I am an ex middle school student of Parkview Baptist School. Students are cookie cutter images of each other. Nearly no diversity or creativity. Girlhood was extremely hard here with judgmental students and even teachers.

My two kids attend the school and both are learning at higher levels for their age. My second grader is moved to 4th grade reading and math. The school accommodates students learning abilities. Both learned phonics in pre-k and reading in K. Both are happy everyday they go to school.

save yourself while you can. This school was the reason for my trauma. The school only cares for kids who put money into the school. They threatened to suspend and send my friend to a conversion camp because of RUMORS ONLY. Do not go here, no matter what.

there isnt much bullying but when there is, it kinda feels like it gets swept under the rug.

Posted: January 14, 2020

honestly i do not like it, the school claims to be college prepatory, and the label their baseline classes as CP (or college prep) and then come senior year i get into calc and the teacher claims that its a college level class just slowed down. For refrence i have never taken an honors, dual enrollment or AP level class so i was not ready for calculus being a college level class; even though parkview claiming to be a college prepatory school. overall they failed at trying to prepare me for college, whereas some subjects i feel like Im learning a great deal, in others it just feels pointless.

Posted: January 14, 2020

no they only care about the bad students the normal student with no infractions are left alone with no imprint left on them,

Posted: January 14, 2020

leadership is good, i dont really know becuase there is no real impact on the students of the leadership, everything feels like its behind closed doors and they dont really think about the normal student, only the educated or "higher level" sudent (I.E. the AP, dual enrollment or honors student)

Posted: January 14, 2020

there is not a large amount of students with learning differences so I cannot give an opinion on this.

They give good lip service to anti-bullying but give the kids with the most complaints way too many chances.

Posted: March 26, 2018

There's very little consistency in teachers. Every year they shuffle, replace, hire teachers. Each year many of them start from scratch teaching a new lesson plan or whatever it is they feel like teaching for that particular year.

Posted: March 26, 2018

Discipline is sporadic. Some days they feel like being strict, some days all goes. Not to mention they have the least amount of school days of any school so short weeks are a norm. Athletes get a little extra wiggle room too.

Posted: March 26, 2018

Call them and ask how many headmasters, prinicpals, etc. they've had in the last 10 years because I lost count. Also the teachers come and go and teach whatever they want. 'Leadership' does not dictate lesson plans.

Posted: March 26, 2018

All the kids are lumped together. If child is slightly advanced then he/she will be bored.

Posted: March 26, 2018

Its just an okay school. But for the money its is disappointing. The school is relatively 'new' for school years (began in the '80s) so maybe one day they'll figure it all out.

Posted: March 26, 2018

Homework means busy work at PBS. Often times the homework doesn't even relate to the material being taught in class. Hard to believe but its true.

Jesus is integrated into every aspect of this school, and HE is the root of those qualities. Being a christian school encourages qualities of integrity, compassion, and respect both in and out of the classroom.

Students who need extra help are identified early and receive special attention; on the other end of the spectrum, students who are working above grade level are given extra opportunities to learn and grow outside of the regular classroom through special small groups.

During the aftermath of the Baton Rouge flood I had the opportunity to work side by side in a friend's home with high school students from Parkview who were talented, friendly, well-spoken, and true servants.

I conducted a very structured and detailed search for a private school for my children. Some of the factors that were important to me were: academic excellence, a quality and diverse athletic program, a rich fine arts program with a variety of performance options, international travel opportunities, and most importantly, an environment conducive to spiritual development. Parkview delivers above and beyond my expectations in every category, and all at a price well below other private schools my family considered. Whatever your perception of Parkview Baptist is, I would encourage you to do your own research and visit the campus. The numbers don't lie, and you will feel at home the moment you experience the Parkview difference.

We made a change to Parkview after many years at another school. We have been nothing short of significantly impressed since the day of our initial tour! Parkview has lived up to all of our (very high) expectations and we are thrilled with our son's progress. He loves the school and his interactions with his teachers and the staff. We could not be more pleased.

My kids have been at this school for the past 4 years and we have been so pleased with the overall experience. The balance of academics, arts, athletics and the spiritual aspect are what I love the most. My children love waking up going to school, have never said an ill word and are genuinely happy everyday at this institution. I would recommend this school for anyone, whatever your child excels in, Parkview would be a fantastic fit.

We started with Parkview Baptist School last school year after several years at another local private school. We were welcomed with open arms. Our children had no trouble adjusting to their new school and making new friends. I love that Parkview makes sure each new student has a buddy for the first week of school, not only to help them learn their way around, but to make sure they are not alone.

Posted: October 9, 2016

Unfortunately, one of our children was on the receiving end of bullying. Fortunately, staff and administration took it very seriously.

Many of the other parents have stated and I would like to reiterate that lack of cultural sensitivity and racial tension present at PBS. These issues are heightened when you factor in the discord between the "school side" and "church side." These two entities do not work well together thus making it a very tense situation. Additionally, our child was often punished due to the behaviors of another minority student. We were told by other parents in the classroom that in fact it was not our child that had created the issues and it was another child of the same racial background. However, when the powers that be were made aware they chose to ignore this. It seems that with this "Christian" institution their definition of Christianity is limited to those who are affluent and of European decent. The following are a list of concerns we brought to the schools attention and to date have received no response:
• Lack of communication regarding unscheduled school closures
• Failure to communicate effectively regarding concerns for our child.
• Refusal to allow a parent/teacher conference regarding an allegation against our child
• Failure to provide alternative snacks or advise us that we were allowed to provide alternatives on days that items were served that our child had allergies or aversions to
o Please note that upon enrolling we advised of allergies a
• Receiving “behavior notes” for things such as “child was frowning”
• Failure to provide written guidelines and procedures adopted by the school regarding appropriate responses to student behavior that
may require immediate intervention(s) such as timeout and seclusion
• Negligence in complying with Louisiana R.S. 17:416:21
In fact, our efforts to resolve were totally ignored and our toddler was called impulsive by administrators. Additionally, when questioned about things the administration becomes very defensive and combative. Our follow-up attempts to speak with anyone above administration went completely unaddressed.

However, they were consistent with attempting to brainwash our child into thinking the sole purpose of attending Parkview was to be an athlete.

I could go on and on. Typically I am totally against the "race card" however in this situation "a spade is a spade."

Posted: October 4, 2016

Lack of communication. Little to NO empathy. Discord among faculty and staff. Not visible to parents and/or students.

Posted: October 4, 2016

Poor race relations, lack of cultural sensitivity, degrading minority students, attacking self esteem of early childhood students.

Posted: October 4, 2016

Many are not adequately trained and have no background in education. Most paraprofessionals are high school grads at best. Some are even in cosmetology school. . . .

Posted: October 4, 2016

Posted: September 30, 2016

I have to cosign with the other parents as far as the privileged students and the favorites getting away with a lot. I haven't really experienced the racial aspect of the school but I have seen that it is definately a lack of understanding when it comes to the minorities there. If you have a problem with anything, the staff is slow to react or doesn't respond at all.

Parkview is one big family! The teachers go above and beyond to help their students succeed.

Posted: September 29, 2016

Not diverse and all and they don't care that they are not! Teachers are not trained in reality just bible verses. Early Learning Center grades pre-k and kindergarten definitely need to get rid of the tenured teachers . I hope they emplement a cultural diversity board to deal with the wide range of religions and ethnicities at this school. When they do that the school would be better. There are also some kids here that are definitely bullies but continue to remain in the school because of who there parents are.

This school is very unequally yoked when it comes to sports and academics.

They need to deal with the racial issues at the school as well and stop hiding it under the rug. Unfortunately, it will get to the news before administration handles it. They need to bring in an outside person for diversity training.

The last few years, teachers have seemed overwhelmed. I believe they are doing their best, but I can imagine that's a bit difficult when there's so much to do. Some teacher's even write their own tests.

Posted: September 25, 2016

The administration is always polite and agreeable, however, there's very little follow through on suggestions that may help improve the school.

Posted: September 25, 2016

Sadly, it does not. There have been several instances of students using the N-Word toward the very few minorities and it's handled with very little care. It honestly depends on the student's/parent's influence. The more known/liked the parent, the better the chance of the kid getting away with bullying, disrespect, uniform violations, etc.

Posted: September 25, 2016

When I have shown interest in my child's difficulties, I have received support. Sometimes, I've had to pry, others were more willing to help.

Posted: September 25, 2016

Sadly, leadership tends to stay within the comfort zone of the majority. Obviously, they'd hate to "rock the boat" of influence. In most cases, change can be difficult, here, it's impossible.

Posted: September 25, 2016

Despite being a Christ-Based school, students learn very little in the way of compassion and integrity. They are entitled and lack empathy for anyone that doesn't share their privileged existence. This is reinforced by the PBS Alumni turned faculty. It's a vicious cycle of inbred insensitivity.

Posted: September 25, 2016

The amount of homework seems to be a bit much to me, but the students tend to score well on standardized tests, so perhaps it's necessary.

Parkview baptist school is where we have always felt a part of a family. The caring atmosphere along with the excellent academic curriculum makes Parkview an incredible place for our children to flourish. We could not be more happy.

Posted: November 18, 2015

My children have been at PBS since 2001. I have a PBS graduate (who received TOPS) and 2 who are currently attending. Over the past 14 years, they have been involved in a variety of programs offered by PBS from sports, fine arts, social clubs, bible studies, and more. My children are being spiritually, socially, and academically prepared to be college graduates and contributing members of society. Our teachers and administration are approachable and interested. All four of our division heads and our superintendent have children who are either graduates of PBS or are currently attending. I feel like they have the same expectation of excellence as a "regular parent". Parkview Baptist School is the best place for my family. Teachers and staff are engaged and enthusiastic about teaching. I am thankful that prayer and worship are daily activities.

Posted: May 18, 2015

My children both have teachers that care and do the best they can with what they have. I think the administration at this school has a very very long way to come. They are too relaxed and don't have qualified people in positions. My advice to any and all parents is to ask questions. Ask how many kids graduated with tops in 2014 and 2015, ask about national merit scholars, ask if the superintendent is following these kids to see how prepared they are for college, ask if they are requiring their teachers to do continuing education classes. For a school that is supposed to be a college prep school with one of the highest tuition rates in town I think you will be left with your mouth gapping open its as we were. The superintendent will not and does not respond to questions, calls or emails...alarming. The teachers are not held accountable therefore like us if you get a good one be extremely thankful, we had fabulous teachers. But I am so happy we asked the questions above because after getting answers we were able to pull out children and know that we are confident our dollars spent on an education elsewhere.

Our daughter started attending Parkview Baptist School in her Senior Year and she didn't know ANY of the 100+ students in the senior class. We thought that her first year & last year @ Parkview might be difficult. But bfore the previous school year ended, she was allowed to shadow a student for a full day of school. The first day of school she was assigned a "buddy" to show her to her classes, introduce her to students, etc. The second day of school I received a call asking how my daughter's first day of school went. A few weeks later, the counselor spoke with my daughter to see first hand how everything was going. We were very pleased at how attentive and concerned the staff were. She says that she feels like she has been going there all along and has made so many friends and has gotten involved in a lot of the many activities/clubs that are offered and she even loves her teachers! We rate Parkview Baptist School as Excellent as evidenced in the education, caring and spiritual nurturing they provide to the students.

Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a fantastic school! Parkview provided a Christ-centered education for my two children who attended PBS from kindergarten through 12th grade. Both are successful adults - one employed as a teacher and the other in the petrochemical industry. I am proud to be a part of the Parkview family! My family was blessed by the teachers and other leadership of the school. I enjoyed being a parent volunteer throughout the course of my children's years at PBS. Parkview exceeded our expectations and continues to provide an excellent education for its students. It's a great place to be!

My daughter graduated from PBS this week, and I am so grateful for the wonderful 13+ years she spent at PBS. I know she has been academically prepared for college and has had countless opportunities to participate in athletic teams and a phenomenal fine arts program. But in reflecting on her time at PBS, it has been the love, guidance and opportunities to grow spiritually have been amazing. I am forever grateful for every teacher, coach, administrator and staff member that have been an incredible role model for my daughter. We are forever grateful for each of you! Geaux Eagles!!

I am very pleased with Parkview. I love the teacher, admins and staff. I think Dr Mays has been great for the school. Solid education, lots of activities and loving Christian environment. What more could a mother ask for?!

My child has been at Parkview for three years and we are very happy that we decided to go with Parkview. Academic excellence, awesome teachers and lots of school spirit. No school is perfect and Parkview has room to improve, but overall I am very pleased with the school. Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love....I'm just speaking the truth.

Posted: September 19, 2013

This is a wonderful school....the teachers truly are invested in each student, and the parents are very involved. For the money, I believe this is the best school in Baton Rouge. The curriculum prepares students well for college. I highly recommend PBS above other private schools in the city.

Posted: August 13, 2013

This school is very well balanced, the academics are just as strong as any other top tier college prep private school in Baton Rouge. Parkview gets an unfair bias as a "sports school" but this is a great school focusing on Academics, Arts, Athtetics and your childs spirtual well being. Could not be more happy with this school!

Posted: May 6, 2013

I feel like this school could change quite a few things. As some of these other reviews have pointed out, athletics are heavily focused on. Sometimes, academics are just left in the dust. Some teachers are absolutely amazing and have been asked to leave and it's a shame to watch this once wonderful school go down. However, there are quite a few academic opportunities for the students including Beta, National Spelling Bee etc. While Parkview is much ahead of the game of most public schools, Parkview is much more concerned about getting a useless sports trophy than educating their students. The 6th and 7th grade Latin teacher, the 7th grade science teacher, and the 7th grade social studies teacher are just a few examples of the fabulous teachers that haven't been asked to leave yet. Overall, this school is a piece of work. A big problem in the middle school, is that if you're not playing sports, you WILL be bullied. Also, if it's thought that you're gay, they can expel you for that with no prior knowledge. They say they will "Do something about it", however nothing gets done. It depends on what you're priorities are if I would reccommend this school.

Posted: February 14, 2013

This school has been nothing more than an atheletic influenced institution. The good teachers were "asked" to leave because they stood up against the administration. I am glad to see the previous headmaster and elementary head are both gone. I pray that the school gets back to where it was before the parents and teachers financial status was the key. I miss certain teachers that had to leave due to their caring for the kids, not caring about the brands they wore. The negative comments that had been posted were real I assure you, but there is always good behind some too. I do have to say how unique that 3 "5 star" ratings use PBS's key words in them, a little work by the middle school head??

Posted: January 25, 2013

Parkview Baptist School is an excellent school that absolutely focuses on the four A's: Abundant Life, Academics, Athletics, and Arts. It is evident on the PBS campus that the faculty, staff, and students are are part of a culture that encourages inclusivity, compassion, and a mission-oriented spirit. The new headmaster has a clear vision for PBS, and he will undoubtedly be leading Parkview into an even brighter future. It is unfortunate to see such slanderous comments regarding the school, and it is apparent these are merely "disgruntled" individuals who seek to slander the character of this school. I have been involved with Parkview Baptist for over 25 years, and I have never seen a more vibrant campus environment. If you want to see what Parkview Baptist is all about, please visit the campus. Your child will not be more loved and cared for at any other school in Baton Rouge; that is a promise!

We just moved our children to PBS this year from another well respected private school in the area. We have been very impressed with the principal, teachers and overall curriculum. The lower school has been more academically challenging than our previous school and our children have really felt welcome as new students from day one, even the principal personally checking our son and calling us the first day to tell us he was having a great day in class. We look forward to the great opportunities ahead here for our family and plan to really be a partner in our child's education. I think the school has a lot to offer our children in terms of being well-rounded individuals and our kids are very happy. I am excited about what the new headmaster will bring to the table and future of PBS- I have heard great things and feel blessed to be part of this school community.

The teachers here were very unhelpful during my time at parkview. There was a lot of bullying, and much of it was physical as opposed to emotional. Many kids that were not involved in sports were not simply bullied by those that were. It was like we didn't even exist, like we shouldn't have existed. Those that recieved any attention from their more athletic peers were the worse for it. They are very bad when it comes to dealing with special cases. And they force their religion on the students. They have that right, and as a Catholic it wasn't very different from what I heard in Mass so I didn't really mind, but I had a Hindu friend and a Muslim friend who were both forced to sit through Chapel every wednesday for years. Students in middle school and above are forced to take a religion class, using the NIV bible i believe. Again, as a private institution they have this right but it would be nice to see them allowing for other religions. Also, not meaning to bring up a very controversial topic but at parkview, at least among the boys, being gay or at least having people think you might have been gay equated to you being more worthless than dirt.

I have attended Parkview since 2nd grade and i hate it here. Just because i am not an athletic star means I am paid no attention to. Most of the teachers are also coaches so they only care about getting their players a high enough grade to play... leaving the rest of us in bad shape. I feel like i am not prepared for college and i have to teach myself all the material because of the lack of care and commitment of the staff. Everybody at Parkview is judgmental and rude. Ive overheard teachers talking openly about students and parents in the halls. Parkview only cares about money and sports, its ridiculous. This school is a joke. Do not send your child to Parkview because it is also very clique oriented and the school does absolutely nothing about bullying. I would love to leave Parkview.... at this point anything is better.

Posted: February 19, 2012

Do not allow your kids to got to this school! I attended this school for 17 years and Parkview did not prepare me at all for the college experience. The only reason I am able to handle college is because my mom was a teacher and taught me how to study. Parkview does not care to actually prepare kids for college. I went back and talked with the head english teacher about going over other writing styles besides MLA because my first paper in college had to be in a style we never even covered and the teacher got mad at me for suggesting she mention the differences in the styles. ALL of the good teacher are gone. If you want your kid to be a druggie sports player send them there if not send them else where. If your kid is artistic DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE! They have no respect for the arts here. The art teacher is not very qualified and many of the students are better artist. Also the art teacher picks favorites and will allow those students into the AP art classes when they have no business getting past the Art 2 class. If your kid is seriously into the arts look into a different school that will allow you to send your kid to that school and NOCCA and your kid will be sussessful.

Our child has been attending Parkview Baptist for over 5 years now and we can definitely say we are pleased with the school so far. The teachers and staff are friendly, knowledgable, and always accessible. I consider it the best private school in Baton Rouge for my money!

I go to this school and I hate it here. I'm in the 8th grade and the guys are very immature. Many bullies are the immature people and they love to make fun of me for no reasons. The school says they would try doing something about the bullying but they aren't doing anything about it. If you just think about bringing your kid here, just don't because your son/daughter will not like it. Also the teachers don't have much dicipline when someone does something wrong. Terrible school.

Our son has been at Parkview for 3 years and abolutely loves it there. The curriculum is challenging, they're always learning new things. The staff is nice and always helpful, when needed. The tuition is a bit pricey, but it's well worth it!!!

Our son and daughter attended Parkview prior to moving. I was shocked and dissapointed to find that they were way behind academically from the public school system.
