It has been awful, can't wait to get my kids out of there.

The assignments are posted in multiple different places making it difficult to keep current. The due dates change without being updated. We get automated "F" calls only to find out the date was moved or it was actually turned in but the teacher hadn't put the grade in. This is not a rare occasion, this is weekly, nearly daily.

There are some good teachers at this school who may be being held back by administration and/or excessive disciplinary needs of children.

Posted: January 9, 2020

I would like to believe that teachers and teachers who move in to administration actually care about children and believe that a child who is misbehaving or who is not performing well is not giving them a hard time but that child is having a hard time. A lot of what I have seen with my own children at this school is a whole lot of dismissal of students needs and placing blame elsewhere - other teachers, other staff ...

We were told that "all children are treated the same", and that "any teacher is allowed and even expected to correct any child who is not following policy"; however we soon learned that this is completely untrue. I have no idea how they decide who gets special privileges and who gets punished for which infractions and how harshly. So many incidents of one kid breaking a rule and the teacher is totally fine with it then a different kid does the same exact thing and has a verbal and written infraction???

They do not support children who have been diagnosed with and who are being treated for mental illness. They are limited to only making accommodations for physical disabilities that cannot be ignored easily.

Absolutely not. I believe the teachers, staff and officers who provide service to the school need retraining in bullying awareness and prevention, how to spot it and how to deal with it (and how NOT to deal with it).

Horrible, horrific, uncomfortable, & a disgrace to children's education.

My daughter was bullied by adults (teacher’s) at this school

My experience at this school was absolutely way much better than my other school. I was always friends with girls in Elementary and Middle School, before I moved to Louisiana. I was not friends with any boys. In Youree Drive Middle School, I made friends with many different types of students here, they're great. The counselors are very friendly here. The teachers are great here too, just some few teachers that may seem unpleasant. My favorite teacher is Ms. Peters, I've had her since I moved here. She teaches IBCA and BCA. I've now graduated from Middle School, I'll totally miss her. My personality has grown as I moved to Youree Drive Middle School. I'm so happy that I moved to Louisiana, and to Youree Drive Middle School. The earth can crack apart, but the last thing they can crack apart is the experience what I've been through in Youree Drive Middle School. Listen to me, if you're a parent, and you think none of this is true about great teachers, great counselors, and the students are friendly. Perhaps your child is hanging out in the wrong crowd, not reaching out to their teachers a lot. To students: Hopefully you will listen to this, don't get on your teachers nerves, you know there is a stopping point. Don't hang out with people you know that will make you in trouble. If you want people to respect you, respect them as well. As I say this, Youree Drive Middle School is a great school and I recommend any parents to bring their child to this school. Sincerely, Jeremy Chen, 8th grader (graduated) to Freshman.

They really reach your heart, if you decide to be close to them. I'm always close to my teachers, so they know what kind of person I am.

I feel like I wasn't being bullied here that often...? I had some conflicts in 6th grade. In 7th grade, it was much better, I was understanding how middle school works. In 8th Grade, legitimately, everything was turning way much better than I had expected.

I love the fact that my daughter does not have too much homework to do at home. A lot of the work is done in class which my daughter loves because she can ask questions and get extra help from the teacher then.

this is my daughters first year and she loves is. she likes most of the teachers and so far they have shown to be really concerned about the students.

in listening to my daughter, the teachers really try to develop each child and help with the different learning styles.

I have not had any experience with this and hope not to. There is a strong policy against bullying though

our experience at this school has been great so far. my daughter loves it, she like the teachers. I can see her developing before my eyes. she is developing a relationship with each of her teachers. She is in the advanced classes so some work is challenging for her but the teachers are available and willing to help. we love the school. it does need some structural improvements but that is on caddo school board.

In 5th grade, my daughter had her heart set on going to CMM. When she learned she was not accepted, I was afraid she would not like YDMS. I did no know much about Youree Drive and had always heard that CMM was THE middle school to attend. Much to my surprise, my daughter has done fantastic at YDMS both socially and academically. The school had and AP Magnet program in Math and Science that is fantastic. The staff is friendly and helpful. I wish there was a little more communication with parents, but maybe I'm just used to the elementary school environment.

All in all it is a good school. But I found that my son, for some reason or another just got left behind by the teachers. I think they made the class room environment a little unsettling for valid questions for answers, he was too afraid to ask, for the responses that he would get. Time was an issue for one class, before he could write the question she was erasing it. And with his grades they never raised concern. This past year, I was very disappointed with the teachers. I know they are preping they for High School, but they are still in Middle School. I think teachers loose sight of their students, by default.
