I went to Shreve Island Elementary school. I graduated from there in 2015. I loved it. I enjoyed having 2 weeks off after each 9 weeks because I got to travel or go see my grandmother. I also enjoyed the field trips. I am autistic and have ADHD so I was helped by some special educators with my assignments. Those ladies were very nice. I had fun in enrichment class. Since we had one recess a day, enrichment class felt like a second recess or first, depending on if it came before or after enrichment. I also enjoyed speech therapy. We would do speech and then play games at the end of speech therapy before I went back to class. My favorite grades were first and third grade. I was really good at math in 3rd grade. My math skills went down hill in 4th grade but back up hill when I was a freshman in college. Today I am a junior at Dallas Baptist University studying to be a Christian counselor and I cannot believe it’s now been 10 years since my last year at Shreve Island. Overall, I loved Shreve Island and would recommend it. I tell all my elementary education friends at DBU to teach at Shreve Island if they ever move to Shreveport after college

If your child is falling behind, don’t expect assistance. Expect ‘F’s until an IEP referral is given

Posted: June 3, 2019

In my short experience, teachers have not been accommodating

Posted: June 3, 2019

No issues whatsoever. Students conduct themselves honorably

Leadership is one trait that is highlighted. You will see your child excel in this area

IEP IEP IEP. .. with no compassion if your child falls behind even slightly

I would not recommend this school for minority students! And if your child has ADD or ADHD, or any other learning disability, they will be maginalized greatly. For your child’s own self-esteem, please consider other schools first. Ask specifically what is done to help student excel when concerns present themselves. I’m out experience, it has been nothing but a negative experience. If you don’t believe me, at least trust the graphs on this page that show the achievement rate of students based on ‘race’.

Racist school against black students, don't let your kid go here. Incompetent school staff as well. Worst school in Caddo parish not really that advanced don't believe the hype.

This school is amazing! My child is in the Pre-K program with Mrs. Milam and he loves it. Mrs. Milam is an excellent teacher and I have nothing but great things to say about her and the school as a whole. For the people that stated they were not allowed to get involved with their child's classroom, that's bologna! I am an involved parent and I am able to text my childs teacher whenever I have an issue and she helps me with whatever I need. Everyone is great from the teachers to Principal Colvin!!

My child has ADHD and his teacher and staff do everything they can to make it easy for him at school. It is just simply a great school!

This is a wonderful school to send your kids to in Shreveport, LA. The academic level is excellent for all students. The teachers are very caring and the new Principal, Mrs. Tyson is phenomenal! She is definitely going to make a difference in making this school top notch in Shreveport!

Not a great school at all, don't expect any help from the administration with the smallest of teacher issues. Also, they do not allow parents to be involved with classroom concerns. As I can now tell, the bad reviews come from parents like me who have tried many times with this school. Good luck, hope for the caring teachers.

This school is...amazing. The teachers are truly involved in teaching the whole child, in superior academics and leadership skills. I've seen how the teachers strive to meet each child where they are and take them to their highest potential. My children, one now in middle school, and one in her 2nd year there, love SI. My son will miss the safe, tight-knit learning community, but he has been more than adequately prepared thanks to the 1-5th grade teachers. You can't beat the year-round schedule, and the dedication to learning...not testing btw...My oldest was NEVER taught to worry about testing, but was adequately prepared and performed well. The administration is very open and supportive. A great school for a diverse group of learners! And I must say the PTA is the best there is! Lots of parent support here makes a huge positive influence.

Shreve island has been such an amazing school this year for my first grader! I loved it in kindergarten but this year Mrs. Parker has been the most amazing teacher and a blessing in our household. Her teaching skills have made my son succeed tremendously and I'm so so sad to leave her and move on to second grade but I am confident we will have an amazing second grade teacher as well. Mrs. Stanford is also an amazing principal and was so helpful this year with some special family issues my son had to go through and it was great to have her help!

Great school, with many different things going for it. Mrs. Kirk was great this year for our little one.
