Sherwood does not have the best teachers and my child has come home and told me that 2 of her teachers claimed they are learning with them and have asked students for help when they are supposed to be giving the help. This school is not recommended it looks good when your touring and when you see their label as an academic school but it just like any other regular school but worse the work load can get intense most of the times. My child has also informed me that some teachers dont take their time when explaining to students or dont do a good job at explaining then they proceed to go sit at their computer for the rest of class.

My 8th grader is sad to go at the end of this year. Its been a great three years.

Because math needs to be practiced, there is math hw after each class. But as for the other subject areas, my daughter usually only has homework for those classes if she did not complete the in class assignment.

With the exception of 1-2 teachers that make child has had in three years there, shes had a good report with all, and they are all highly qualified in their area.

Last school year the entire student body read Wonder, had discussions, classes on it, and became a nationally certified Kindness school. The students really took it to heart. This year they all read Fish in a Tree about a girl with dyslexia. I think the administration and teachers are do My a great job with getting the students to recognize that so many have hidden disabilities and to realize that there may be someone who struggles with things like that sitting right next to them. The students are becoming more aware of the fact that to be different is ok.

Middle schoolers are a tough crowd. Academics aside, their brains just dont function sometimes. This administration understands the middle schooler and does a good job of directing them in the right path. The Principal is no-nonsense and she does a great job of running the school and letting their teachers do their job.

Sherwood students and faculty participated in a year long book study last year on the book "Wonder." They became Nationally "Kindness" Certified to show their willingness to be inclusive of all students regardless of disabilities.

Sherwood Middle is a phenomenal school. The teachers are dedicated to their students and the administration is one in a million. The advanced courses and rigorous curriculum has prepared thousands of students to reach their educational goals! SO proud to be a Sherwood Falcon!

This school is ok. The current principal is very old and uptight. She should have retired ages ago. We have too many school rules. The teachers there are ok but most are terrible and annoying.

I'm a former teacher who has taught middle school in LA. as well as in other states. My daughter attended one of the most expensive private elementary schools in Baton Rouge and is now in her second year at Sherwood Middle Magnet. She's very happy and I could go on for pages about the fantastic teachers, but the biggest difference I've noticed is that unlike my friends who still have their children in the other schools, I no longer have to spend hrs. teaching my child each night. Homework is actually SUPLEMENTAL to what she has already been taught in class. There are no tears of frustration (hers or mine) because assignments are appropriate and teachers are accessible to my daughter by computer even at night! If Sherwood cost what the private schools cost and the private schools were free, I'd still want my daughter here. I say a prayer of thanks for Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet every day.

I have just finished my last year at SMS and now i'm moving on to Baton Rouge High. And let me tell you, Sherwood is a great school. The teachers are dedicated and are willing to help students who are falling behind. In sixth grade, it will be challenging, 8th graders will most likely pick on you, but don't worry, it's nothing serious. And the homework can be quite intense, but it definitely helps the test scores. Overall, I love Sherwood. (it's better than McKinely!)
