I am extremely concerned about the leadership and overall direction of this school. There appears to be a significant disconnect between administration and the day-to-day realities affecting both students and staff. The current leadership has been in place since the school opened, yet meaningful progress and accountability remain noticeably absent.
It is deeply troubling that student performance challenges are consistently attributed solely to parents, with little acknowledgment of the school’s own standards, instructional quality, or leadership responsibility. Effective leadership requires shared accountability, transparency, and a commitment to measurable improvement — all of which appear to be lacking.
Messaging such as “Just show up” reflects a concerningly low expectation standard and does not align with the level of academic rigor and commitment our children deserve. Students should be encouraged to strive for excellence, not minimal participation.
Additionally, there seems to be a misalignment of priorities. While community initiatives and fundraising efforts can be valuable, they should never overshadow the fundamental responsibility of providing a safe, accountable, and high-quality educational environment.
At this time, the school’s trajectory feels unsustainable. Families entrust this institution with their children’s education and well-being, and that trust must be earned through competent leadership, clear standards, and demonstrated results. Significant change is necessary to restore confidence and create the environment our students deserve.

Absolutely impressed with the dedication from teachers and leadership through out the Covid 19 pandemic. My daughter attended virtual kindergarten which was incredibly challenging to manage. Her teacher taught the entire class computer skills, mouse skills, how to navigate a browser. In addition to teaching kindergarten subjects we also received computer literacy skills.

My daughter attended school in person for the 1st grade and also received a phenomenal education. The entire class was a bit behind naturally from the challenges of virtual kindergarten the year before. At the start of the year my daughter was struggling with sight words. At the end of the first grade my daughter knows her sight words and is reading books to me. Her teacher went above and beyond to provide daily homework and to communicate with parents homework expectations.

My only issue has been the bus. Sometimes my daughter misses the bus due to communication breakdown. Luckily I live nearby and can just pop over. When this happens I do get a mini heart attack, but I call the school and they confirm what caused her to miss the bus. This has happened at least 3x this year.

Other than the issue listed above, absolutely love Scotchtown! I encourage prospective parents to engage with your student's teacher and to use classroom dojo app. We have had an absolutely positive experience so far.

My children went to this school for 1 year (3rd grade). The school is clean and the staff and teachers are friendly. My only concern is I don't feel my children learned very much. The year started off good with homework and communication with the teacher but after spring break everything just went down hill. They stopped giving much homework or if there was homework it was basic and easy. I would ask my children what they learned in school and they would always say nothing or how they watched movies or listened to music in class. I would not recommend this school if you want your child to excel academically. Before and After care program is awesome though!

Pretty bad. I am not impressed. I feel very uneasy leaving my preschooler there. The teacher did NOT have any organization or patience with the kiddos nor parents. It was sad to see. The teacher was slightly arrogant. Did not take the time to explain anything nicely. She wasn't patient with the children- even on the first day. The organization of getting the preschoolers out of the bus and into the cafeteria was chaotic. I felt like if the parents were not there, some of the kids would have been lost. Regardless of whether your child eats breakfast there or not, they have to sit there in the cafeteria until they go to their classes. It would be nice to know that everyone will get their breakfast without feeling like they are ignored. Some organization is needed for this. If anyone from the school reads this, please work on organization and kindness. Thank you!!

I am really impressed with this school. I like the way that the kids are challenged. My grandson attends and I feel like they are teaching him that the sky is the limit. The teachers give me guidance for working at home and I am truly happy with what he is accomplishing. I am a retired teacher and am amazed at his conversational level and thought process.

Parents are provided information on how to deal with bullying and I have not heard about it being a problem at that school.

SHES utilized ClassDojo so that the students can take see for themselves what they have accomplished in terms of work ethics and class association.

This school is the most horrible school my son has attended!! Teachers are horrible, they don't take their time to explain anything in school, everyday my son comes home it's a problem because they don't explain his homework to him.. My son has never had problems like this at any of his schools!

I am a mother of two children in SHES and I really love the school, if the parents we got involved more, and did not think that teachers are the ones who have to do everything I think we would see better results, teachers are trained and the school has very good extracurricular activities. The PTO is amazing have given good service!

I am a grandmother of a kindergarten student. The first day was impressive from signing in to meeting the teacher to the beautiful hospitality that was shown to all parents. My grand daughter said they do many things in class and she can't wait to use the computers. We are looking to begin a great year with Scotchtown Hills.

You would be hard pressed to find a school of this caliber in other places in the county. I have worked in 5 schools, this being my fifth and I can promise you this is the BEST of the 5. PTO is excellent, after school activities are plentiful, and the staff works hard. Some parents are not the best role models and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...so their children don't come to school prepared or with the right attitude to even learn. But the staff does the best they can with these parents and their kids and in other schools where I've taught that would NOT happen. The principal is helpful as is the office staff and overall, it is a great school!

SHES is a Great school..... My Grandson whom had issues in school due to lack of attending school where he use to live where he had missed approx. 30 days of school now living and attending in PG Co, he has gone from a problem child reading below his grade level and time his teacher Ms Simms "first grade" Finished he was reading above his grade level, now he is in 2nd grade he has made Honor Roll both quarters and Perfect Attendance every quarter as well as Good Citizen, none of this would had been possible with out us all working together...Thanks to everyone forming a little boy.
