I am writing to express deep concern over the management of this institution. There are significant safety and cultural issues, including theft and physical altercations. Unfortunately, administration focuses heavily on superficial dress code violations rather than student safety. Furthermore, the instructional culture suppresses critical thinking. Students are penalized for asking questions, as staff equates respect with compliance. While this is designated as a Talented and Gifted school, the quality of leadership falls below nearby neighborhood schools like Samuel Ogle. This environment actively harms student morale. Finally, the school must stop removing critical public reviews from 2025 and 2026, as parents deserve full transparency.

I'd say the school is pretty good/not bad. My child was in the TAG program and it seems they were well-prepared for high school by the time they graduated. They did well on their standardized tests, which shows that they were learning what they needed to be learning. Most of the kids were nice, and there were a few really excellent teachers, and generally really nice staff. There were also a few that did not really show up for the kids the way I'd like, and us parents needed to step up and work with our kid on math on our own to get them back up to speed after the pandemic. But all in all, things were pretty good. My child was not bullied.

Excellent school for gifted learners. Our child finished 1st in a three county area for 6th grade science fair with a project on AI and 2nd in the 7th grade science fair. They offer advanced math beyond what is typically available in private schools. (ie. Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry) Sports are well rounded with boys and girls basketball, soccer, girls soft ball, boys baseball, cheer, step team, dance as an extracurricular with a full dance studio and a chance to compete across the county. The principal is excellent and the staff are invested. There are multiple award winning teachers. National Junior honor society typically goes to NYC every year. Last year kids taking Italian went to Italy. Year before the Spanish class went to Spain.

The teaching is great. Some teachers may have a bit of an attitude but it seems like they mean no harm by it. Ive learned so much at this school. The key problem for me was always the way the staff address bullying and peer mediation. The administrators can also tend to be too harsh to students over simple mistakes and minor issues while going easy on real problems within the school environment. For example staff may put a student in ISS and call his parents for using their cellphone but when a student harasses another one through verbal office theyll just get sent to the counsellors office to cool down.

We visited Tasker Middle School for the incoming 6th graders and I was really impressed with the staff, students, and extra curricular activities/clubs offered. Everything was nice and organized, students lead group tours around the school, and all the departments and clubs were set-up in the cafeteria to browse and talk to educators about programs. Hats off to Tasker!

This school is an absolute nightmare disorganized, disgusting, and inhumane. If you care about your kids well-being and mental health, stay far away. Bullying runs rampant, and I was constantly picked on and made fun of with little to no support. Only now do I have the strength to write this review. If youre planning to send your kid here, prepare for them to go through hell. I wouldnt wish this experience on anyone. I do NOT recommend this school.

Not recommended for special education children. Teachers are not trained. They don't communicate with the parents. Every time the child is uncooperative they simply kick him out of school. One asked what led up to the event they can't tell you. Seriously go anywhere else

This school is ok. There are lots of fights, inappropriate behavior, and drama. There's also a lot of racism/discrimination. This school is fun though and its nice to make friends. The teachers aren't so bad, but they're not the best either. Far from the best. Would recommend!

I am a former student at Benjamin Tasker middle school. As a student in the TAG program the teaching was amazing. I was able to understand the teaching very well, and if I didnt I was able to receive assistance. The guidance counselors here cleary love the students and help them feel welcome, though many problems go unsolved. In this school students speak their minds boldly. Physically students are pretty much guranteed safety, but discrimination is very common. Students often slander others, and the staff do not do anything about unless one student is physically threatening the other. Academically wise, the school is great, but is not good for people who struggle socially. Slander pages are also constantly started on instagram, but are removed in under a month. These pages allow people to make public hate notes anonymously, and the students never get caught doing it. On the contrary whenever a student would get caught the punishments would normally he justifying. The school was great though, and I am definitely going to miss Benjamin Tasker, it positively shaped as a person for the better. I would especially recommend going to Benjamin Tasker if you are in the TAG program

My daughter is a 7th grader at Benjamin Tasker and I do believe that there are some genuine good teachers at the school, but the school also have teachers who do not know how to properly serve in their position. Some teachers are talking to students like they are their friends. My child should not know your personal relationship business as part of class discussions. Many teachers do not reach out to communicate with parents on their childs grade changes or changed behavior experiences until the situation is borderline unresolvable. However, there are a few teachers who will send positive notes home and call to share glowing academic and behavioral reports. There are programs in place to accommodate the academically challenged and the academically advanced kids in the area. Overall, as a public entity BTMS has a good enough team of teachers and administrators to support my daughters development academically!

My older daughter joined the school last year after we moved to this area. It was indeed a good experience with the tag classes. My younger daughter is still there and I am loving the fact that she's enjoying middle school as well.

Given the 2 1/2 years were virtual learning, my experience has been acceptable. It would be very helpful for the school to offer tutorial and/or instructions on how to navigate the different applications that the school system is using.

Benjamin Tasker Middle school is a great place for teaching and learning. My child is currently in the 8th grade and I must say he has had a fantastic experience as a student. They provided numerous communication tools sometimes I say too much (LOL) so parents are informed about happenings in the school. Take a look at the School's website.

They provide numerous activities to engage students during and after school to engage students in developing their passions. My son's teachers are caring and compassionate and provide him with lots of differentiated instructions. He participates in numerous competitions in which Tasker has been successful. I know they are one of the best middle schools based on their performance and also the untick in enrollment.

One of the things I am most impressed with is how they handled instructions and Social and Emotional learning during the pandemic. Despite all the challenges the school provided a safe space during and after school for students to matter.

A school which produces a teacher of the year students winning so many competitions and affording so many activities for students is definitely a great place for learning.

DONT WALK, RRRUUUNNN from this excuse of a school.
Before you look at the rating of 7 and the improvement from the score of 3 a couple of years earlier, ponder this.TAG students were integrated into the school 4-5 years ago. Those students have their own wing, and own teachers, no educational mixing. But add in those 200ish TAG students and no wonder scores increase. We had friends with TAG children move to Crofton!

If you believe the following are acceptable you will love this school:
*One teacher after two years still didnt know our sons name.
*The Head of Special Ed exclaimed ( recorded on audio with 10+ witnesses) You cant expect an intervention in every subject. Hes only two grades behind! (His best subject).
*He know John Wickee assassinated Lincoln
* All students do 30 minutes of IReady a day (the principal) but when asked for proof the actual numbers are very different
* Punctuation and capitalisation are his strengths at 12 years old?!?
* I presented at the school at a career day and *I* had to tell the class if they did not shut up and listen I would leave. The teacher didnt even bother to look up.

I am very happy to say our State Complaint was upheld, along with several others from other parents.

I informed the principle and vice principle that my child is being teased and bullied, and neither of them took the time to acknowledge nor respond to my concerns. Schools are suppose to have a zero tolerance policy to bullying, but based on the administration failure to respond shows they do not care about the students well-being. Ive never been ignored by school administration, and the fact that the principal as well as the vice principal failed to respond to my emails are very concerning. Additionally, theres a lot of fighting that is happening on school grounds which is also concerning. Lastly, there are very few teachers that appear to be vested in the students education and well-being. Those that are, kudos and thank you! The teachers that arent vested are obviously there to simply collect a paycheck. One teacher informed me that she does not talk to parents over the phone while several teachers informed me that they have hundreds of students; therefore, they dont have time to focus on students on an individual basis. Some teachers dont respond to emails nor do some of them reach out to the parents if the student isnt doing well. Ive always had great relationships with my childs teacher up until transferring them to Benjamin Tasker. Im stuck with having to transfer my child close to the end of the school year if the teasing, bullying and lack of teacher interest doesnt improve or my child may be stuck until the end of the school year because many schools are no longer accepting new students this late in the year. Either way, I will be transferring my child as soon as possible.

This School is a great school. The teachers are amazing, the attendance policy is AWESOME and they normally try their hardest to make sure that the dress code is in tact, that there is no bullying, and they even allow some of the students to have a say in spirit weeks or the school board! They give us freedom while still upholding the school bylaws, and I must say they've done a wonderful job at it. BTMS is a great school, and I say that because I AM A STUDENT!

My child was in general classes before moving to more advanced courses this year. As often happens in middle schools, the students in general classes are less academically focused. Unfortunately, the teachers in the general classes seemed less effective in pushing the students, and classroom control was lacking at times.

We've only had minor issues, but a call or email to the school guidance department brought quick action and resolution. The school seems to take this problem very seriously.

The teachers use Edmodo (an online educational collaboration network) to communicate with parents. I get emails daily with my child's assignments, and can check to ensure that she is completing it. The teaching teams coordinate to balance the workload for students.

I've been very impressed with the work the teachers and faculty have done at Tasker. My complaints are largely the limited electives and arts programs (e.g. no choral program this year, drama is only offered as an after-school extracurricular).

Worst school EVER! I was a student at tasker. Emphasis on was. I had an undiagnosed medical condition which caused me to miss/get sent home a LOT, and every day I went to school was torture. The majority of the staff was rude when I was in the hall, in the bathroom, in the nurses office, or in a certain place for too long for whatever reason regarding my medical issue even after I tried to explain and showed them my pass. The majority of the teachers were ANYTHING but supportive. And the ones that were couldnt do anything to help due to lack of authority. EVERYTIME I Requested or got sent to the nurse, Id get atleast a 10 minute long lecture whilst trying not to cry out in pain because of my issue. And because it was undiagnosed they werent permitted to give me home and hospital, and I understand that, but they couldve handled it and themselves way better then to yell at me for something that was out of my control! Eventually my parents and I both got sick of it and decided to homeschool. Im wayy better now and we think it had something to do with stress. Which this school definitely didnt help with AT ALL in fact I can almost guarantee that going to tasker was the most stressful part of my day. Between getting caught up work wise, trying to stay out of trouble, trying to dodge unwanted social interactions and trying to deal with immense pain all at the same time, it was like my own personal hell. Im not trying to harm the schools rep, Im just sharing my personal experience and opinion. Thanks.

So far this school year we have had late pick up to get to school or no bus at all. The principal has been nonresponsive to the issue saying "oh well some of the buses run late" when spoken to over the phone when our child wasn't picked up by 9:00 am. Our child has special needs and when spoken to the administration at the school said that sometimes the students just have to deal with the uncomfortable heat.

My son is in the 8th grade and so far the school year has been going ok. The teachers are trying to do the best with students that are in extremely packed classrooms. The fix is to add another middle school in the Bowie area so that the teachers are focused on teaching only!

My daughter just started 6th grade and now I have the first hand rude and unprofessional experience from the registrar and other 2 staffs at Benjamin Tasker. I wonder why they are allowed to work in a kids school with those manners.

EXTREMELY UNRESPONSIVE STAFF!! I do not know how/when it became acceptable to not return phone calls from parents. After trying to reach ROBYN JONES several times by phone, I went to the school to speak to her face to face. I think the staff is trained to say "Let me have your name and contact information and she will call you back". Which is the same line I received via phone. This is unacceptable. Next stop...SCHOOL BOARD! Do better, you have an obligation to parents as well!

horribly scary. We moved to PG county an good recommendations. Not true. I think the teachers along with a few of the admins are scared of the bullies. All the school needs is people that are there for the kids, not a paycheck! Big difference. Be strict across the board not based upon color or monetary status. I cannot wait to get my kids out of this school..

Tasker is a good school, the only reason some parents dont like Tasker because their kids get "mixed in with the wrong crowd".And that's going to happen in life what so ever, I'm a student at Tasker, and I have been at Tasker since day one in 6th grade now I'm in 8th grade and I'm going to stay at Tasker until the stepping up ceremony. Tasker gives you a good education, or they try when the students are turnt down and actually want to learn. But Tasker also gives you fun things after school such as clubs, now teams, skate zone nights, and dances. I like Tasker, and even though things have changed since i was in 6th grade, I have made alot of new friends, memories, and I have learned life lessons. I woudnt trade my tasker experience for anything. And yes I AM A STUDENT! If your choosing between Tasker or Ogle CHOOSE TASKER!

I go to Benjamin Tasker Middle School and am currently an 8th grader here. Back when Tasker first opened in the 70's it was an amazing school that everyone wanted their child to go to. I have read a lot about new management in the school and how it is changing for the better, but honestly it's not. The staff here doesn't care what you have to say. The new principal honestly does want to make a much needed difference here but it just isn't working. I don't know if it's the area that we live in where the students aren't the best and really don't care about learning or if it is the schools problem. Also, I've heard about the problems with teachers, and while I do agree that they exist, I as an honor student was not very affected by these things. Nonetheless I know I could be getting a much better education elsewhere (meaning in another area). With all of this said I am very happy to be getting out of Tasker at the end of my 8th grade year.

I am a student of BTMS I'm going to the 8th Grade 2013-2014 my school has had too much going on for this to even be a school we police at our lunch we have police walk around our school there was even a fight that got my friend arrested in the 6 grade that he didn't even start I think the new principle tries to make the school better but really it got WORSE I don't like the school at all only for my friends buh the teachers curse there rude and don't know how to handle their classes yeah the students have problems but I think it's what the teachers do and the students give back to the teachers as a response I've even looked at other schools they all have the same problems

I really hope the current administration is moved away from this school. There have been way too many fights, including food fights, and nothing is being done about it. The principal seems like she is not interested in hearing what parents have to say. This school had a few problems in the past, but not it is going downhill fast!

I would not even know where to begin. Either your child is lucky enough to get into a teahers class that cares, or your out of luck; and will spend way too much time micromanaging everthing to just to tred water.

I can't say what the school was like in 2011, but under new leadership/principal starting in Sept 2012, the school seems great. My child enjoys his classes and really likes the teachers. He finds it very challenging- in a good way- and actually prefers MS to elementary. I had concerns sending him to Tasker based on what I heard in the past, however, the school must have improved drastically and I am quite happy so far with the positive changes.
