If you are moving to the area, don't send your kid to PG schools. They are not known for education. Know for terrible bus system. Disconnected teachers and administration that miss more days than the kids. They just care about testing and making sure your kid comes to school and nothing about higher learning. It is so disheartening to see the potential but get below average teachers and schools. They have all this money and no modern schools with engaged teachers. My son went to this school for 1 year. If we keep him here, he will not graduate. They don't care, your kid is just a number. Let's be clear. This school is a clear indication of the ongoing failures in PG county schools but for some reason you pay a premium to live here. Please don't think that just because you paid a lot for your home and you have high taxes that Gywnn Park is a good school. It is old, run down, and full of administrators that don't care. Don't make the mistake we did and waste our child's education and time here. Also, we are very engaged parents, they think parents are the same as the teachers, they don't care.

If I had one word to describe this school, it would be Eastside High. I sent my child to school, and he returned home with broken teeth. I've never had any issues with PG county public schools however my experience at Gwynn Park HS so far has been a nightmare. The laziness is heartbreaking. Our children deserve better.

I dont like this school. The staff are very rude and unprofessional. Staff even flirts and curses out the students.

Some teachers are good and Some are just horrible where they brag about failing students. If I had it to do over again, I absolutely would not have enrolled my child here. AVOID AT ALL CAUSE!

I would never recommend anyone to this school. The teachers are lazy and don't want to do their jobs. The administrators do nothing when you complain and they allow the teachers to do whatever. Teachers aren't putting in grades all quarter and then they grade dump and the end of the quarter. Change the administration and get someone in the school that cares and make the teacher do their jobs. Students come to school not in uniform daily. Most of the time nothing happens unless you get a teacher that says something. Then students are allowed to just go to there lockers and put on a shirt and return to class. Students leave the building when they get ready. Students let other students in the building that don't even go to the school. This school is just a mess and I would not recommend that anyone send their kids here.

Im still currently a student but Ill be a senior next year so I can personally & descriptively. I would describe the community as a fit where you can type. Depending on what kinda person you are it can be rough for you but for the most part if dont stand out & make yourself noticeable you will be fine. I enjoyed it but of course not every class was perfect but like I said if you can get in where you fit in you will be fine.

My son and daughter attended the school for 3 years and they as well as others did not have bullying problems.
Posted: August 21, 2018
Very good. We had to move and teachers as well as students showed lots of love for my kids. Teachers went out of their way to say the kids talented and special. They pushed my kids to joint clubs and teams.
Posted: August 21, 2018
My kids barely had any homework. Spanish teacher just had them copy from a text book. He didn't even speak Spanish.
Posted: August 21, 2018
The administrators are toughening up on the kids which is very important. They listen to the kids and keep parents informed of the good and bad behavior your child is demonstrating.

Great teachers and office staff. Very attentive and friendly.
Posted: March 18, 2018
Absolutely not they dont test the children and if they do they dont have the resources for their needs. They appease a parent thats in denial and let the child stay in the class and pass them along.
Posted: March 18, 2018
I havent encountered that issu so cant speak on the matter.
Posted: March 18, 2018
There is NO leadership because EVERYONE is following what the head of administration say change the grades and pass them along or NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND! They are left behind with NO FUTURE!
Posted: March 18, 2018
The teachers ARE NOT effective because they are enabling the students and passing them along when they should be retained or sent to a school that can accommodate their learning capabilities.
Posted: March 18, 2018
No, this school doesnt develop strong character or integrity it takes children you dont have to put in the work or effort. You will be given a grade and passed along NO MATTER WHAT !
Posted: March 18, 2018
I would rate the experience as awful but this is what my husband allows for my stepson.
Posted: March 18, 2018
This schools approach is awful. My stepson doesnt do any homework and he is given an A they will put exempt and go back at the end of the semester and give him the max points which is an A. The put comments on his progress and report card incomplete and missing assignments ,with poor test and quiz grades, and inattentive in class and pass him with a B or C. Their is nothing that support the grade not even the comments. They are just passing him alone and changing the grades!

I have been going to Gwynn Park since my freshman year and I have to say that this school needs to do better. Most of the staff only care about the "cool kids". While others don't care at all. There's only a few teachers that actually want to connect with students and teach. The ROTC program needs tuning. Most students don't even want to be in so they refuse to take it seriously. The staff in this department doesn't teach you all of the marching steps like "column right" "to the rear" etc. They only teach those steps to drill team and expect everyone else who's not on drill team to know. As far as administration they tend to use favoritism. For example if a non popular couple pecks each other on the lips its against the rules via PDA which is true but if another one are looking like they are dry humping each other some how thats ok. Or they "ignore it". And for a no bully zone school theres still alot of bullying. I used to be bullied in my freshman year due to my skinny stature and it would be in front of their faces but they looked away. The education is ok but its only good to those who were lucky to get the teachers that want the job.

Gwynn Park High school have very disrespectful security and assistant principals that plot against the students instead of talking to them and helping the situation they have very short spans of patience and are quick to jump to consequences that are unnecessary the physical disrespect as well many students find harmful and react cant blame them for defending themselves if not warned first everything is just backwards at this school

I never experienced negativity at this school the staff is wonderful and the teachers do make time and stay after and work with students that tend to have a little difficulty. Parents must remember to communicate with all the kids teachers. It is very important to be considered regarding your child education..

wouldn't choose to send any of my children here or any younger family members. It's a school full of contradictions and disrespectful authority. The school could improve by hiring new staff and better administration.

Gwynn Park is absolutely the worst school I've ever been to and I've been to a lot of schools. The teachers have no idea what they're doing and the ones that do are stuck with students who don't care about their grades. All you hear is cussing and people copying other people's work. The principle and her vice are so unqualified to be there. They suspend students for literally nothing and do nothing to inform the parents of it. I think they like to pick on students to be honest. they think every little thing you do requires a break from attending. They are truly just an uncaring school. I cant wait to leave.

Gwynn Park High School is one of the worst schools I have ever been to. I am currently a Junior at this school and my father is in the military so i move around a lot. Even though I have been to many bad schools, I would have to say that this is the worst one. There is not any concern whether we students learn anything or not. It is granted that I came to this school from a DoDs or Department of Defense school in Germany, which is one of the more upscale schools in the world, but that doesn't mean I have never learned anything from any of the other schools I have been too but this school is just horrible. It is so easy that I literally sleep for most of the classes and I still receive straight A's. I would not recommend you send your children to this school.

Have 2 kids at this school. My opinion is that the majority of teachers and the administration encourage only the top 10%. Not every student is going to be an honor roll/3.5 or better student. Nothing in my opinion is done to encourage your middle of the road students to achieve the next tier. Also, a lot of the teachers here rely on SchoolMax as their only means of communication with parents. Also, getting a meeting with the teachers is an impossible task at times. Class sizes are too large (county wide problem). During the summer months, the school typically lacks air conditioning and during the winter months, school lacks heat. Teachers routinely get frustrated and yell at students with no action taken by administration other than to "monitor" the situation. As stated above, it is my opinion that my statements hold true for the majority of the teachers there. There are a few teachers where this does not apply and the provide every opportunity for the child to succeed.

I love GPHS because of the great teachers and administrators. My son is in the Towson University ROTC program to become a comissioned officer - thanks. The principal Ms. Millier is all about our students to become their best. Thankfully academics is key, not drama! D. Jones

I am currently a student at GPHS, this was not my first choice, but, I am a satisfied freshman at the school. GPHS, is great, I have learned so much. I am currently a 3.6 student, I am working for better, and my teachers, are doing a great job helping me, It's fun, and a great environment, it's not as "dangerous" as people like to make it seem. I think they do it because it is a PGCPS. But it's not dangerous at all. It's actually a pretty decent school, I recommend it.

I love this school! My daughter is a 4.0 student and although I give her all the kudos because of her dedication and ambition, I think that she is also inspired to rise above the rest because of the love and guidance she recieves from the teachers and staff. As we know leadership starts at the top.. Ms. Marrow is an excellent leader and I am sad to see her leave but 'm sure that MS. malone will pick up from where she left off and lead our young adults on the right path!
