Indian Queen became the place that reminded me why I fell in love with teaching in the first place. Walking into the building each day felt lighter. The students are not only well behaved, but genuinely eager to learn.

It was refreshing and uplifting to be surrounded by teachers who truly enjoy being with their students. There’s a real sense of joy in the classrooms and a culture built on collaboration, support, and learning from one another. You don’t feel alone here—you feel like part of a team.

The parents are incredibly supportive and deeply involved in their children’s education, which creates such a strong partnership between home and school. And under Dr. McCall’s thoughtful guidance, the school is run with care, clarity, and heart.

Indian Queen didn’t just give me a workplace—it gave me back my passion.

We have had two students attend IQE. The staff from the front office all the way to the back custodial closet care for and want to see everyone succeed. It saddens us to know our students will eventually have to move on. IQE is a great school and we have loved it.

Indian Queen is a tight knit community school. The principal, Dr. McCall has established an environment that is welcoming, family oriented and structured to prepare children appropriately. My son has excelled here and is very prideful about being an Indian Queen Bear.

Not sure how well strong character in students can be implemented when there's no effective positive or non positive disciple in place for wrong behavior. Enabling does not help build character.

This Principal, as anyone with power is only concerned about the Legacy,the mark left on the school. Such as adding walls, meeting test scores, low suspension rates, etc. Instead of funding for the events (asking parents for donations then charging the students), ignoring misconduct, bullying, racism, discrimination between students and staff.

The principal does send out weekly newsletters and is approachable. Although she is approachable she is not open for suggestions, or concerns without giving some push back to protect her staff.

The school strongly supports students with language barriers and autism. I do believe that the support is not equally spread out between all students regardless of race, or learning capabilities. Needs Improvement

In clear cases of bullying, there was no form of discipline taken. Enabling the staff and students to carry on with the bullying behavior.

I have had a bad experience at this school. I enjoy some of the teachers. But do to the conflict with the Principal I cannot consciously send my child to this school and trust that he is in the best care, and his safety is being put first. Due to communication barriers there is no way Iwe can have an effective family to school relationship.

Many of the older teachers do not utilize the tools implemented by the school to communicate things such as homework effectively. This is a barrier when the teacher sends home last minute assignments.

As with any employee relation , staff look out for themselves and stick together and will do whatever they can to stay out of trouble. The students best interest are not in mind.

I think Indian Queen ES is one of the best schools in the area. It is a tight knit community for the most part. The majority of educators there really care about the kids' overall well being, not just test scores (though they have the highest average test scores of all the elementary schools in the area. I am a teacher at a nearby school and had the choice of transferring my kids to the school I teach at , which also happens to be a good school .

The school has a strong character building curriculum that is led by the guidance counselor. The guidance counselor also meets with students in small groups to address concerns and to teach students the skills to communicate effectively. The school has several activities to raise awareness for accepting others for who they are and appreciating the differences in people. The school also has a no bullying campaign as well as a campaign to be aware of personal safety.

The principal is the only administrator at this school. She works hard to address any parent concern that is reasonable. There are some parents who are out to get the teachers and the principal knows who those parents are and as long as the teacher has all of the evidence they need she will stand by the teachers. She has worked hard to remove ineffective teachers, which some people in their ratings have complained about. The principal has a leadership team that she has been very selective to put together to make sure that the leadership team is effective in helping to move the students to succeed.

The principal has worked hard to have funding put in place so the school can have adequate special educators, paraprofessionals and English Language Learner Teacher and paraprofessional. The school supports all students of all backgrounds and differences.

The principal and guidance counselor are very quick to meet with students to address bullying. They also help students to determine the difference between a child being mean once and what bullying is. Some parents are quick to throw around that their child is being bullied, but in the end the school finds out it is simply a disagreement between the student and their friends. The students know that they can speak up to any adult if anyone is harming them in any way.

The best school I have experienced!!! The principal sends weekly communication to the parents. The school always contacts parents within 48 business hours, typically much sooner. The school is welcoming to everyone! When you enter the building in the morning the principal and staff members are there to greet you. The principal has hired two hispanic secretaries to help with the barrier that families who speak Spanish were facing when they would come in to register or to inquire about any concerns or questions they may have had. The school has an active PTA, even though the number of parents who actually participate are limited, but the parents who do participate do amazing things to help the school. The school currently has a four out of five star rating on the Maryland Report Card Website for the 2018 school year. The school is small and receives very little support from the county, so all of the success is met by the students working with the teachers, administration, and parents/families. The school has multiple activities throughout the year to bring families in to celebrate the students, such as the Honor Roll assemblies, Men Make a Difference Day/Donuts for Dads, Muffins for Moms, Hispanic Heritage Night, African American Heritage Night, Asian Heritage Night, Talent Shows, Santa's Sitters so parents can go out and shop, Harvest party, and so much more.
The community members who are commenting on this site have never come in to see how they as a community member could come and help the school. The principal has reached out to the community civic association and local businesses and no one has stepped up to help. The only community involvement is with the Park and Recs that uses the gym.

After reading reviews of our base school prior to moving in the area about 2 years ago, I was concerned about what we would come across. I was however pleasantly surprised, as my personal experience with the teachers and staff at the school has been one of mutual respect and commitment to providing the best possible learning experience to our children.
Moreover, the support and participation of families at school events is strong and a clear indicator of the tight-knit community behind the school its self.

If you value a solid education or a school run by professionals who have a genuine interest in providing the best education for your child, do not enroll at this school. I've never experienced a more corrupt school administration. Not only do they neglect to inform parents about dangerous teacher behaviors, they will also lie on official record. Teachers are stressed here which I believe leads to an ineffective educational environment. This has to be one of the worse schools in the county.

This is a terrible school that suffers from poor leadership. The principal is insincere, very rude, and unprofessional. There are nice teachers here but they are overworked and intimidated by the principal so your child never truly gets what he/she needs. As is the case with many PG county public schools, education is driven by standardized test scores only. Students don't learn to love learning. Sadly, the tests scores here are also amazingly low despite how loud the principal professes otherwise. Minus one star for Indian Queen.

Sometimes we forget the impact that teachers have over our children. Schools are busy places, teachers and parents are busy people, so it’s not surprising that sometimes we miss out on opportunity to stop and say "THANK YOU". Often, it’s the little conversations, the easily-forgotten asides, the friendly smile or brief compliment that mean the most to our children – and while teachers might forget them by the time it comes to write the next report, those words can remain with a young person for a very long time, shaping their personality and their thoughts.
So, thank you to all the teachers at Indian Queen Elementary School, you are powerful as individuals and as a profession. Thank you for helping to mold and change our children lives for the better.

This will be my sons last year at Indian Queen Elementary . Teacher Unions shelter the lazy and incompetent and at the same time discourage and beat down the eager and hard-working teachers that retire as fast as they can .The public schools need to kick the unions out of the schools, move to merit- and performance-based wages like most other private business, and you d quickly separate the good teachers from the bad. Then get rid of the bad and hire new teachers who have plenty of ambition and energy that are going to focus on the basics Kid s reading, writing and arithmetic skills and are not there just for a paycheck.
