Literally, this is probablythe worst school in Laurel. I've seen people having inappropriate interactions with each other and some people actually got pregnant. People would start fights and no one would do anything until 5-10 minutes later with security. The buildings are old and run down and people would smoke weed around the school. The learning in this school sucks believe me I graduated not long ago. The teachers would give the bare minimum to keep us busy and don't teach a single thing. I honestly wish I could've gone to another school to learn but sadly, I couldn't because of my parent's situation. The school doesn't support the students... I HAD A COUNSELOR WHO TOLD ME I SHOULD WAIT ANOTHER YEAR TO APPLY TO COLLEGE..... just because I had a mediocre GPA?? Anyway, I still applied to the colleges I wanted and I got accepted without their help.... STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL IF ALL POSSIBLE!!!

Zero stars would be given if possible. This school is AWFUL and so are the staff. My child has been cursed at while going here and has lacked a great deal of support. The process to enroll to now has been trying, challenging, and abrasive (Mrs. Lawson-the registrar). I am also unsure of what the counselors are there for other than to make schedules because this seems to be where their skillset ends. Bottom line is: If it is a neighborhood school- MOVE or get special permission for an ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL. This school makes it hard for children to succeed as many staff worry about the most insignificant things rather than the students abilities and this is not only a TROUBLING concern throughout many school systems, but also at Laurel High School. If there is a high drop-out rate from this school I would NOT be surprised. I wish I knew before I set my child up for failure but sending them to this incapable institution. It is a true disappointment and my child's learning overall has plummeted since the arrival to this place.
PLEASE DONT SEND YOUR KID HERE. THEY WILL BEGIN TO HATE SCHOOL. (Speaking from experience)
Signed,
An EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED Mother

-0, the Principal at this school is unperfessional and incompetent of doing his job. Some of the teacher care about the lisa but not all. The guidance counselor's are on point and some of the career programs are good. Others then that this school needs a new principal who is welling to make the school better then what it is.

Most of the teachers I've had didn't really serve a purpose in my life or offer me anything to help me toward college or impact my life. There have been a few teachers that impacted my life, and sometimes when I'm in a bad situation I think about what my health teacher taught us and it helps me make good choices as a teen.

With AP courses, there is A LOT of homework given, which is expected because it does count toward college credits. With other classes like math they give a lot of homework when the teachers didn't even teach the subject or students still don't understand.

The strive for students to have honesty, integrity, and fairness has never been said or discussed during the time I served there. I have experiences and witnessed where teachers allow bullying and even bully too. There are a very few who do something and try to make a change and encourage fairness and integrity, but sadly these teachers aren't recognized because the school overall is just so poor and unorganized.

LHS is a bad school for your child if they value good education and have aspirations for their future. The school is poorly built, aside from the new building. I have seen mice twice in the gym and in the locker room. The bathroom stalls don't close, unsanitary, usually doesn't have soap or paper towels, only a few water faucets work. It is very obvious that the teachers and counselors don't care about the students or their education. The security is a joke. For some reason, the cafeteria food gives some students the cold (including me). I don't know what kind of toxic waste this place gets their food from.
Although the education is bad, everything is not completely the teachers' fault. There are disruptive students who interfere with serious students' education and make the teacher's job even harder. The bad faculty and their wrong doings still out-weigh how the students behave. Some teachers are bullies and allow bullying. This school has been threatened before by a student they say was 'mentally unstable' and has a lot of lock downs. Everyone walks the hallways with sad, gloomy faces or frowns, so clearly the students don't enjoy it. I rated this one star because terrible was the closest adjective to depressing. Luckily, I am moving to Howard County to experience and enjoy REAL education for my senior year.

Honestly, read the reviews and just move to Howard County. This school as well as the school district are FAILING.

This school is absolutely horrible. The review about this school doing a disservice for well being, psych and development is absolutely true. I went through hell for four years. I was picked on constantly, left behind in academics, damaged physically and emotionally, my guidance counselor Miss.Harris was of no help, instead of trying to help me and GUIDE me in the right direction, she seemed more interested in shaming me or criticizing me for my failures. I didnt have a great home life and that was a big distraction, I wish I could go back, change things and do better but at the same time I would never want to relive this hell and be picked on even by teachers. The security was so intense it felt as if we were in juvie and I felt very unsafe. This school has been on lock down many times, it's so easy for anyone to enter the school as well as easy for kids to leave school whenever they want. Most depressing and embarrassing years of my life. I wish I could give them 0 stars

I went to Laurel High and I am about to graduate university now. I don't see how this school gets anything but a 1/10 rating. I knew it was bad going there as a kid but until I left the state and saw how the world actually works, I had no idea how bad. This school (and the entire district for that matter) has done me a massive disservice in terms of my development as a human being. The facility was an absolute dump while I was there, most things were broken or in some state of neglect. The place felt more like a daycare to keep problem kids out of prison than a place of learning. I went to school every morning hating my life and not knowing if I was going to have to defend myself from roving mobs during school hours or on the way home that day. The word ghetto comes to mind. There were some instructors who were top-flight, and CHOSE to be there to make a difference but the balance of them were imbeciles. The curriculum was lackluster at best. I look back at those four years and I am still trying to undo the damage. If you value your child's academic and psychological well being, steer clear of this school and PG county in general.

So far I have read nothing but negativity from students and parents. I want to send my child to school for a good education and we are looking for teachers who are not afraid of children or their parents and administrators who care about the school and faculties. This school will be crossed off my list. I do not want my child feeling uncomfortable. Sounds like the kids are running things, we are looking for a place that can teach kids, not kids run all over the teachers and students. As stated early the test scores are uncalled for and the entire school staff and administrator should be embarrassed.

Laurel High School is not the best school in the county. But it's one of them. The staff are caring, professional, and determined. The PTSA works very hard to make things better but struggles with the apathy of some of the parents. As for the success of the students, there is a wealth of educational programs for students of all learning abilities that they can take advantage of to help in post-graduation preparation: International Baccalaureate (6 diplomas this year--the highest in the county), Advanced Placement, Cosmetology, Nursing, and Automotive Repair. You get the education you believe you deserve. Can you slide by with little effort and still get a diploma? Yes, but the blame for that lies with you; don't complain that you aren't prepared for the rigors of undergraduate study. Students who seek out and take advantage of all the school has to offer will be successful.

Every school has its flaws. The school is not bad in itself, it's just some of the students there. I've met some amazing teachers and had some great learning experiences.
