My daughter is in 1st grade at this school and my review is of course limited to our experience. She absolutely loves this school. We won a spot in the charter school lottery this year and turned it down. I have found the teachers to be extremely responsive and the principal goes above and beyond. And, importantly, every person I've been in contact with at the school from the very beginning has been warm, friendly, and happy to help. This is public school and clearly has different resources than a private school or perhaps even one of the charter schools. So we do make efforts to send in materials that the teacher needs as often as we can. We have also been happy with the level of challenge presented by the work for her level. In particular, I have found her Spanish and Music teachers to exceed my expectations. The school also does a fantastic job of recognizing students for their hard work. That's such a major motivator for a child like my daughter! So, all in all, we're happy 1st grade parents but we also strongly believe that parents have to partner with the schools for the best outcome.

Depending on the teacher, you either have a lot of homework for your child, to none at all. Not very consistent.

Again, depends on the teacher. My child has been enrolled at Patuxent since Kindergarten (going to the 5th grade now). Some of his teachers have been great; others no so much. It is truly six in one hand and half a dozen in the other.

Prior to her retiring, Dr. Washington was a very good leader. I felt she cared for the kids, her staff and their success. Hopefully, the new Acting Principal is as effective.

There is some good and some bad about this school. The academic testing scores are rough, but I attribute a lot of that to the 'teaching to the test' model PG county schools have used instead of a more holistic way of teaching. My child has developed good friendships in his time here, but I feel like a lot of his learning has a more'check the box' kind of feel. We definitely have to supplement his learning here at home.

I was a student at this school when I was younger and I am sad to say that the curriculum and caliber of faculty has declined. The principal does not seem aware of any of the dealings within the school. The head secretary is extremely rude. Some of the teachers speak to the students in ways that should have them terminated. The children do not have proper supervision. My daughter's friend was slapped in the face by a little boy and the school did nothing. My daughter was denied lunch because her teacher did not get her class to lunch on time. The parents are not informed of any school events until the last minute. Progress reports and report cards lack any sort of review on the progress of the student. Things have to change in this school.

Some of the faculty members are very rude not only to the parents but the students. Certain courses and materials are only available to the younger students.

I want to say great things about this school, but of course this is my experience from August 2014 to present. 1) No heat in some classrooms in the winter 2) No air in some classrooms in the summer 3) The cafeteria food is disgusting and my son begs for a homemade lunch daily. (What boy does that?) 4) The school's population is very homogenous, so if you have a light skinned child. Expect they will be taunted and teased daily. 5) My son's current class has one teacher to 30 students 6) Technology is in disrepair and principal favors the lower grades for technology use. 7) PTA communicates events/fundraisers at the very last minute. Outdated information on website and very low participation 8) School Secretary is always right and will cut you off when you are trying to explain something 9) School bus driver is always late, making my son late Good 1) They use the School Max family portal 2) Some teachers use DOJO a mobile app for parent-teacher communication 3) Music program for students

This school is wonderful!!!! It has honestly the best school my daugther has attended so far. The teachers, Principal and staff are committed to helping our kids be the best they possibly could be. Ms. Battle is an excellent teacher and really cares about her students development. I'm looking forward to the upcoming school year.
