So I am at an urgent care this woman is on a phonewith someone named rick, she was complaing about no christmas spirit at school, how she sent out a group message about a coworker that needs to be canned/fired. She was saying how she got a gift for someone there, but that girl must be counting nickles cause they did not get her something! She slso was rude to the receptionist here calling her uneducated because she had to wait! School needs to do better why would you have someone so judgemental, apparently a bully, working around our children! The eorld is cruel enough!!!!

South Shore is an International Baccalaureate PYP school and teaches French to all students as part of the IB curriculum.

A previous review from 2018 mentions the school needing a leadership change - South Shore's current Principal took leadership in Fall 2020. Ms. Elliott is an effective leader. The school now uses a PBIS discipline model and all children are frequently recognized and rewarded for the positive behaviors the school is encouraging.

My children have been happy, safe, and are achieving high test scores at South Shore. The school offers strings, band and chorus and before and after care are available. Class sizes are small. There is an active parent teacher organization.

We moved to our new home specifically because of this school. The teachers are fantastic and my kids are not only learning more then at their previous school (in eastern Annapolis), they really do love going.

The principal is inexperienced and does not follow through. Constantly saving face. I would love a change.

Students with learning disabilities need not apply. There is no help for these students at South Shore sadly. They will struggle until they give up trying and do the least needed to merely get by.

Bullying is an issue because the school is small and parents all know eachother and know the teachers. Bullying goes unreported. When it is reported it gets to an unsafe level before it is dealt with by punishment. No positive interventions for the student who is bullying.

Homework is sometimes a time consuming thing that does not improve their learning. I would prefer less busy work.

I do love that this school has amazing teachers and great parental involvement. It could use some major overhauls in behavioral interventions for problem students, resources for Special Education, more experienced leadership, more involved counselors and updated Air conditioning and heating systems!! The poor teachers suffer daily in the terrible conditions. The students are very close knit. They have known eachother since they were babies. New students are kind of shoved out of groups unless they are very outgoing. It is hard to adjust here. Newcomers are not easily accepted. My neighbors kids took over a year to feel like they weren't alien outsiders. Test scores are good compared to Baltimore. They are quite a bit lower than some other great schools nearby. Overall Im satisfied with academics! Teachers are also great. No complaints. Theyre doing a great job. I think the most critical area at this school is leadership guidance. Students with disabilities and behavioral problems need support so badly that they are struggling to just get by. At other schools these students would have access to lots of programs South Shore doesn’t offer. This is a great school that just needs some TLC. One amazing leadership person could turn it all around! My kid will be moving on to the upper grades so I wont be there to see it.

South Shore is an amazing school. Love that the school is a PYP candidate school. The staff is warm and welcoming. The principal seems concerned about each child. The PYP coordinator takes time to answers questions families have about the program, and is always accessible even though she is not here each day. She is a former teacher at South Shore so she seems to get the school and the kids, and is very easy to talk to. Classroom teachers teach by questioning. We love that inquiry is a such a big part of the pyp program here. The cultural arts team is amazing. My child comes home excited each and every day. Could not be more thrilled for her elementary school experience. I only wish that each elementary school was like South Shore.

South Shore is a great school. It has smaller classes than average for Anne Arundel. The teachers and administrators are top class. There is strong parent participation and support.
