I don't understand how such arrogant, rude, and overbearing people can be principals in schools where there are so many children and where they know they have to deal with many problems. My daughter is being bullied at school, and today, for the second time, there was another incident with the same girl who bullied my daughter before. I went to Tayac Elementary School... the principal practically treated me like a criminal and told me that I was endangering the children and that I couldn't be there unless I had a clean record. It makes me so angry that being Latina doesn't mean we're criminals... all the children were leaving through the hallway, and I told my daughter that we should wait for all the children to leave so we wouldn't be in the middle of them, and Principal Latonya started calling me practically a criminal, dangerous, and a threat... when at no point did I even say a bad word or raise my voice for her to insinuate such things.

This school does not do anything about bullying or harassment. My brother goes to this school and recently he has been getting cussed at and kicked, mind you he’s only in 2nd grade. They don’t do anything about it, like they laugh what’s been happening. It’s been happening for atleast a week or two. DON’T SEND YOUR KIDS HERE unless you wanna take risk

The vice principal needs to be removed. She was so unprofessional this morning. She was so arrogant, rude, judgmental the list goes on. I really do feel sorry for the kids/ teachers/ parents/ coworkers having to deal with her all day along. I really hope they find someone who actually cares and enjoys their job because I could tell this morning she does not.

Depends which grade you are in and who is teaching. We've been through k-5th and in 2nd grade the teacher was barely there, a substitute taught most of the year. As today, a substitute is teaching 1st grade.
For the other teachers, I am pleased that taught my child. Dedication, communication and patience is key to being a teacher.

You would think this school was private, very strict! Kids can't even laugh without getting in trouble.

Where do I start. The principle at this school is horrid. I've never seen her smile or interact with a child unless she yelling at them. She reminds me of a prision warden. Scary woman!

I'm not impressed with IEP team at this school.

I can't answer this question As I have not experienced a situation to need too. I can only hope!

5/10
I am pleased my child made it through k-5 but I feel as a parent they should involve the parents more, make the school a fun learning environment for the children to want to learn and go to school.

My children come home with homework daily or weekly packet, I believe it's grade level work.

Horrible, not a good place for children to be, let alone a learning facility.

Teacher informed me that she does not have time to explain things to the children

Horrible, absentee principal. More involved with walking around than taking care of School

Posted: November 6, 2017

We had to pull our son out because of the lack of help with his learning difficulties.

Why is it that this school get out so early. There is NO consideration for families. 1:55 why? You are definitely forced to get aftercare! Wow! No help!

My kindergartener attended Tayac during the 2015-2016 school year. She really enjoyed her time at and is sad that she will no longer be able to attend. (Moving out of state.) Her class size was 22, a little high in my opinion but not unreasonable. Her teacher was new to the school district. She brought energy and organization to the classroom that was very apparent during the times I dropped in to check on my daughter or volunteer. I was very impressed with how far my daughter came academically this school year. Over all we were very happy with Tayac and will be sad to move.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! Moved here recently and did not want to send my child here. Was not able to transfer so we went ahead and tried it out. My child is was a kindergartener. There are only 2 teachers for kindergarten. There are 32 students in his class! 32 to 1 teacher is unheard of! The classroom is complete chaos. I guess TA's are out of their budget:( The children are out of control, my sons behavior has dramatically changed from the short time he has attended. We tried to stick it out until the end of the school year. But I just can not deal with it anymore. Pulling him out this week.

It doesn't at all they can't even control the students in a classroom setting. Instilling values are probably the last thing on their mind.

Posted: August 24, 2015

because of budget shortages, the 1st grade teachers were reduced from 3 to 1, meaning the classrooms were packed and probably at capacity.
the teachers were so nice and helpful but I think they suffered and were unable to teach as they wanted due to larger class sizes.

Posted: August 24, 2015

the homework was repetitive and pretty straight-forward but not really a challenge for my son.

the school strives for wellness and greatness but falls short. I honestly believe it has to do with school budgets and cutbacks, resulting in a drop in quality. cause and effect.
also, the communication was not the greatest; there were changes to the schedule and I was constantly calling the school to determine changes.
it is a shame education budgets suffer as they do.

Tayac Elementary DOES NOT offer before and after care. The PTA/PTO does do things at last minute and I feel a lot could be done to motivate the kids. I did attend one and the only one meeting they had in 2013/2014 school year and they mentioned that they don't do honor roll assemblies because parents don't show up. In 2014/2015 school year, they did have a Black History Month program that was postponed three times because of weather issues. I felt bad that a lot of parents didn't show to support their kids and this IS THEIR HISTORY. I believe that the school would have more activities if parents would show more interested. For the 2014/2015 school year, those parents who showed interest in the PTO/PTA signed up but then didn't hear anything from the PTO/PTA President. We have to show our kids that we value their education and show them support.

Academically, the school has potential but things could be a lot better. Although I have never had an opportunity to personally meet Dr. Carr (aside from passing by when visiting the school), she appears to be managing the school appropriately. However, I do not feel that there are enough opportunities for parents to become involved. For example, there aren't any Honor Roll assemblies where parents can celebrate their child's achievements in the school and the Background check is way too pricey for parents who wish to chaperone or volunteer. In addition, the efforts of the PTA appear to be pointless. For example, the students pay $3.00 to dress out of their uniforms, school activities range between $5 & $7 for about an hour, trips range between $10 to $20 when and if trips are scheduled and fliers from PTA are ALWAYS sent home at the last minute. Joining the PTA will not make a difference since notices of meetings are never sent home. How is the money raised given back to the students??? Every parent wants to know. It's as simple as a newsletter! I am a parent who is heavy on communication and being supportive. Tayac needs to really evaluate develop a plan to address these concerns

I have a son who currently attend this school and I'm very disappointed with the teaching at this school and the lack of help to keep my son safe on the bus and at school with bullies. Terrible school and my son will not be attending next year

This school was awesome I was kind of discouraged when I was forced to go to another school due to bus zone changes. I say my little brother is pretty lucky to go to this school

As an educator I am very disappointed with the lack of professionalism, lack of leadership, and the closed door policy of this school. The principal of this school is arrogant, overbearing, and unfriendly. She cares more about her clothes and pay check than the students. Very few if any parents are pleased with the quality of education at Tayac. I would not recommend this school to any parent. I have three elementary school age children. Fortunately, my youngest has won the lottery to attend a Montessori school. The principal is so threaten by the presence of parents that she has established grade level PTO which is a strategy to diminish parent involvement and empowerment. The principal selects the parents that she wants to participate in school level meetings (ie school improvement plans). Parents are not encouraged to visit or volunteer. Teachers are discouraged from taking students on field trip.
