I was skeptical when we moved and reading the reviews of our new neighborhood school. I must say that while it was a little less structured than my daughter’s prior school, she has had a great experience. The teachers and administrators are great with communication. My daughter has learned a lot and enjoys her classmates and teachers. She hasn’t experienced any bullying, which is always a parent’s concern. She is in 5th grade and will be transitioning to middle school in the fall so I’m sad that she only spent one year there but it has been a pleasant one for all of us.

The school definitely needs to be renovated and updated when it comes to tech. The school is very very old and I hope this renovation happens soon (as in summer 2019). But besides that, I’m happy to say the teachers I’ve had contact with are great and there is a lot of support (from both the women and men at the school). The principal and staff truly look out for what’s best for the students and will try their hardest to direct them in the right path. I do believe though in my child’s experience that teachers with more experience under their belt were more effective, than the teachers that had 1 year or first timers. The more seasonal teachers seemed to have a grip on how to handle the classrooms and how to teach. Because my child was placed in a less experienced teachers classroom. Majority of my child’s experience during instructional time was spent on discipline and redirecting the class (which seemed to be out of control). So much of the learning went out the window because of this. However, again there was support from staff members that would come to help redirect and get a hold of the students attention for instructional time. Because my child experienced this, I do think there should be a least an assistant with first time teacher. This is just to help until the teacher feels more confident and a feel on how to run the class. This way majority of the time isn’t redirecting and discipline (maybe that will help). Again I was impressed with the support of others coming into the classroom to assist when they could. I will send my child back because I do believe this is a good school. I do hope for the best for my child’s upcoming school year, that it’ll will be better academically and behaviorally. And I do want my child placed with a experienced teacher (my child needs that). I also hope the support and encouragement from all staff members continues. As I mentioned before, they should really renovate the place, I definitely can see the potential of a improved building.

I have been happy with the school and teacher for kindergarten. The teacher has gone out of her way to keep my child challenged and interested in class. The school is far better than the ratings given on this site.

My son just completed the 1st grade at Glenn Dale. Coming from a private school, his reading and math skills were above grade level. However, my son was not given work that challenged him. Also, his class was taught by a permanent substitute who had no control over the classroom. Much of the instructional time was spent on discipline and redirecting other students. Because of this, my son often sat in class in sheer boredom. The principle is very nice and approachable. I expressed my concerns with him at the start of the school year. I do not feel that much changed throughout the school year. The school is very behind as far as technology. The building is ancient and seems to be a safety hazard. It is questionable whether or not the building is even up to code. This school needs to be renovated or shut down. I will not be sending my son back for 2nd grade.

this school needs to be more tech savvy. It seems very behind in comparison to her prior school.

For quality education please search elsewhere. I was warned by a couple of parents that took their children out for several reasons. This was my daughter's first year and similar to the experience of my neighbors it will be her last.

This is a very good school. The Principal is one of the best I've ever met. He's quite nice, approachable and would go to great lengths to assist. All the teachers I've met are quite nice and warm. The Parents community is actively engaged. However, attentiveness to individual needs of the students need some improvement. The special needs classes have some really nice and caring staff, unfortunately, they are in dire need of more qualified staff and assistance.

How does this school get a 7? If this is a seven, lord help us. I would not send my child here unless it was a last resort. Most every effective teacher has fled and this school has lost everything that once made it great. Very sorry to see. I challenge parents to look around at neighboring schools as there are certainly other options.

I L-O-V-E Glenn Dale Elementary. This is a true gem in PGCPS. The principal is supportive and a true hard worker. This same work ethic can be seen in her staff. They go above and beyond to make sure each child is successful.

this school is awesome i love the teachers and it has a magnificent tag program also teachers cooperate with parents and students also they have fun and edcucational field trips but are school is in need of renovation and rebuliding also we had an idea for ipads so we would not waste so much paper this is coming from a group of students we HOPE we win 5000 dollars thank you pgcps and have a great day

The principal is brining about a positive change and setting goals that will hold teachers accountable. The old principal was not engaged and the teachers were allowed to run free. When you have free range change is not good for you so you flee, good byr to the old and hello to the new. My little princess is now going to 3rd grade and thanks to the new teachers at Glenn Dale she is really growing and advancing. When only 6-10 parents show up for PTA meetings to find out what the staff is doing how can you rate anything. Get involved and maybe things will change

There was a principal change in 2012 and since then several of the school's most experienced teachers fled. The changes are clear - there is no 3rd grade TAG class anymore (affecting my TAG student), my other child's new teacher seems ineffective. My experiences with the principal have been dissatisfactory and sadly, disrespectful. In fact, I only landed on this page because I plan on transferring my children to another school and was researching neighboring schools. There are some really nice people there though. Glenn Dale used to be a good school, and the sense of community it once had has evaporated.

I have been very disatified with the school and the principal. My son is in the second grade class and I have never been notified when he is having a test at school and a textbook to study for these test never come home. After complaining I was given a website where my son's textbook could be found, but still no textbook has been sent home. My son was given a math test to see how well is he doing in his class and I was never informed of this test, neither was I ever given the results. WHen I asked for the results I was told that he scored basic, of course I have no idea what this means and Would like to know how I can help him and what he did weak in so that I can help him at home. I had to meeting with the principal and the teachers; the prinicipal told me that she would send a copy of the results home with my son.. that was at the beginning of February. I have yet to receive it and my son was given another state test (math) since then that I could not get him prepared for because again, I was not informed and no results have come home. I am looking forward to the school year being over so that I can transfer into a better school.
