I used to go to this school and I got bullied every single day and was made to feel like a annoyance. And when I asked one of the teacher for advise, she told me to say something mean back which didn't make sense and was very immature of her. Not to mention that some of the teachers are verbally abusive and physically assaulting. One time I a teacher pick up a student. And not to mention a lot of the teachers act depressed and like they do not even want to do their job. And this is why I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL!!!!!!

Very poor the teachers and leaders don’t care at all. My child had a teacher put her hands on him and a investigation was held with no feed back from anyone at the school. My son binder got put in the toilet by another child they said is nothing they can do not even punish the child for it. Can wait for my son to graduate

Someone wanted to fight my child. I called the school and they conducted a meeting with both students.

Posted: June 8, 2018

Overall the experience was great.! They took my calls and responded at every request.

Homework should be accepted even at 9pm on google.

I'm confused as how my own 8th grader will not be able to attend her promotional ceremony because our family can't attend. 2 tickets really? Very poor decision and sad got the experience...

Our son graduated from JM this school year and not only did he enjoy the school, so did his parents! Many speak about the rumors of fighting and bullying, however with the Principal and VP's in charge, it does not happen! Our son shared there were only two fights and those students were sent elsewhere! So you incoming 7th grade parents and students, believe the Principal when she says that bad behavior is NOT tolerated at James Madison. Also, if your child has an issue on the bus or in school with a student, have him/her take it to the Guidance Counselor and watch all disappear. I'm speaking from experience when one boy thought he was going to mess with our son. He went to share with the Counselor and it went away! If you tell your student to arrive with a positive attitudes toward learning, you will be amazed at how the teachers will embrace him/her. So stop listening to the rumors of parents whom say I've heard that is a bad school, and then they do not have a child attending. Instead listen to a parent whom has a child whom attended for two years and now leaving confidently for high school! Oh, and one last thing...our son made honor roll three quarters this year!!!!

I attended this school through 7th and 8th grade. (Year 2010-2013). I truly had a good experience at this school. If your child is failing, then it's NOT the teachers fault. Why? Because I was in most honors classes and through my 7th-8th grade year, I had nothing less than honor roll. I've seen some of these students that are failing with my own eyes and it's because they either talk, sleep, disrespect, or simply don't do anything. I loved most of teachers and they develop relationships with the students. Not just teacher to student, but if feel as though we were all friends. All the teachers I had, I feel as though they did an exceptional job. We had FUN at this school. Everyone points out the negatives, but never the postives. ~Former student.

To those persons that think James Madison is a good school. Clearly you haven't been to a good school. Being angry at the LACKING of the school staff and becoming frustrated with the DISRESPECTFUL students is a normal reaction considering that those things SHOULDN'T even be an issue at a school.. Teachers CHOOSE to become involved or NOT... When a parent goes to sit in on a class and the teacher still decides to NOT do his/her job its very upsetting and shows that they don't do the job that they have chosen REGUARDLESS !!!!! Those persons SHOULDN'T be kept on staff. I have witnessed such behavior first hand. A bright student can come along and DO THEIR BEST and still be UNDER educated due to the ABUNDANCE of distractions caused by their peers.... With such an over crowding of classroom sizes and a under supplied staff its becoming harder.

Honestly no disrespect but all of the people making angry comments are just angry parents. You say the classroom is out of control and that the teacher cannot handle the kids. Unless you want a teacher that goes off on your child every time they do something ... These teachers are doing their responsibility. I know you say " Oh... My child's grades dropped and the class is a ZOO" .... Take responsibility.... It is not the kids fault nor the teachers fault.... Your child should pay attention no matter what the environment is. I bet you that if your child TRIED their best, You WOULD see straight A's on that report card every quarter ! Now don't be mad at the school system, the teachers, the principal..... Your child is the one who makes the difference between an A and a F.... Now don't take what I say and make EVEN more excuses.... Actually think about what I have said and really let it sink in... Bye! ( P.S I am a student)

Madison Middle School is a great School. Both of my son's graduated from this school and were in Advance Classes. They both graduated with high GPA's. They learned and developed greatly to be prepared for International Baccalaureate (IB) High School Program.

I would have to agree with the previous 2 posts on this school. My daughter entered the 7th grade last year a straight an honor roll student. In this school she's been able to cut class several times before any teacher reported it, I've been to the school quite a few times and when asked to speak with the teachers a special meeting needed to be called due to the time constraints the teachers have. There are NO office hours for parents, and i wasn't notified my daughter was doing poorly until her report card came out! Once I got involved and had to monitor her more closely, a teacher was reporting she was not turning in assignments but they were initialing off on a sheet i created to communicate with them stating she was completing homework. None of them use the useful edmodo tool and there is absolutely NO communication between teachers and parents (aside from the SEVERELY overcrowded and horribly unorganized parents night) I am desperately trying to get my daughter into a charter school when she will have some encouragement to suceed, instead of bored teachers that would prefer to get the class over than actually provide any academic knowledge.

My daughter attends JMMS and I must say, I am VERY disappointed. I had already heard things about this school from my daughter's sixth grade teacher as well as another parent. I am a very involved parent and my daughter's teachers have seen me. I agree that the disrespect that I have witnessed between the students and teachers is extremely disheartening. My daughter has been bullied the second half of the year, and besides her counselor, no one else seems to care, and they certainly don't do anything to the bully, but they call me every time my daughter gets upset. when I email her teachers, I NEVER get a response back. And on school max portal, the grades are never kept up to date, so I never know where my child really stands. I am also considering a private school for her next year! PGCPS should be ashamed!

I give this school 1 out of 5 stars. Ever since my son has attended this school his grades have went down tremendously. We went and sat in a few of his classes and it felt like we were in a zoo. The kids were out of control. Now I see exactly why he is doing so poorly. The kids that were trying to learn were interrupted the entire time by most of the class. The teachers had absolutely no control over the students. I am so discusted and I dont know how I can get him into another school out of our District without paying for a private one. It is very disturbing to see how poor Prince George's County Schools are. I work with children in the city and that is exactly what James Madison reminded me of, a D.C. Public School.
