We moved to the area this year and my daughter was only in the school for one year the academics considerably behind. She was often relearned things she had learned last year. We also dealt with bullying. Students calling her fat and even one incident where a student told her that she should kill herself for being Jewish. When my husband and I went to the school we were met with resistance by the principal and vice president because the student had been in there since kindergarten and not been in trouble. The incident was brushed off. They stated until they could prove what she said happened truly happened nothing could be done. Even after the student admitted to saying these things there was no punishment for the student who told her she should kill herself. I hope no child ever has to hear these horrible things at such a tender age. I am very dissatisfied with the way this was dealt with.

If you are a minority race or your child has learning differences...this is not a good school. There is a lack of integrity and action from school leadership and staff .

We have only been at this school for a year, but in that time I have been COMPLETELY impressed with the quality of ... well everything about this school! My child's teacher is great, the specials teachers are awesome, the staff is helpful and responsive, and the administration has always responded quickly and appropriately to any issues that I've seen. Unfortunately, we will soon be moving to a new school due to redistricting. Believe me, I would have been more than happy to have our kids remain at HES for the entirety of their Elementary School tenures.

We love this school! My 3 children have had great teachers and interactions. I am not sure what the previous reviewer's problem is with the Principal, but we have had no issues. The school has some wonderful programs. For example, every other year, they have International Day, where they spend the day walking around to different classrooms and learning about other cultures, or teaching other students who come to their classroom; they do crafts, eat ethnic foods, listen to stories, etc. My first-grader recently did a performance with an "artist in residence" from Uganda. There are also after-school activities offered periodically (right now, my kids are in a show that will raise money for First Responders). The school uses a positive reinforcement behavior system, where students are randomly given tickets to reward good acts. The tickets are placed in a lottery and names are drawn for random prizes. There is a lot of parental involvement. I volunteer regularly and see lots of other parents doing the same. As far as the population of the school, there are many good neighborhoods that feed into this school, I see no issues.

The teachers are good, office staff adequate. The nurse is excellent. The principal is horrible. This school is good because of the parental involvement, not because of the leadership. Over the past 5 years the school has greatly declined due to redistricting and the loss of the core volunteer base. It will continue to decline with the present principal in place.
