As a mother of two daughters attending Monsignor Slade, I can confidently say this school has been a true blessing for our family. We love everything about it—the strong sense of community, the high-quality education, and the warm, welcoming environment. The staff is fantastic—caring, approachable, and genuinely invested in each child’s success. Monsignor Slade has created a nurturing space where my girls are thriving both academically and personally.

Monsignor Slade is the not the school for you and your family. There is so much hatred, lieing, and manipulation that occurs on a daily basis in this school. The AoB does not monitor anything and only comes into the school when things need to be covered up. The principal and those that are in powerful positions above him make it there mission to make sure only several families in the community are taken care of and the rest are left to rot. Scandals, racism, and disgusting treatment of staff is a normal routine. Unless you are in the Spalding group or clique your kids will not be protected. The idea of an elementary school is to help young minds flourish. Not destroy them. Absolutely do not send your kids here!

My children have been attending this school for 6 years and every year it gets worst ! Next year is our last in Monsignor slade. If your kid isn’t white or white looking do not send him to school here you aren’t welcome. That’s just one of many reasons , it’s the one I only mention this one because It stands out the most. I could deal with a lot but discrimination just doesn’t work or sit well with me. 8 k a year and you would think things like that don’t happen but they do.

Our experience started off nicely with Slade. I liked the classrooms and great teachers for the primary grades. As the years went on, we started to notice small issues, but by then we were all settled in and chose to look the other way. We eventually enrolled our younger child and that's when it became clear. The administration is completely ineffective. The principal is eager to show her face at events and school drop off/pickup, but you're out of luck if you need anymore than that from her. They can not keep a school nurse for more than 2 years. They will not address bullying - they will only rotate seating arrangements in the classroom. It became appallingly clear that money is all that matters to this school. Two days before one fundraiser ends, they email you about the next. They send raffle tickets home with your very young children with a note that you already owe them for each unrequested ticket. They require you to set up a FACTS account so they have full access to your money. I've had money for field trips taken out before I even saw the permission slip. If you have a gifted child or a child with special needs, they can not accommodate.

They put money before the children and families at this school. If you can make it through with an ample bank balance and perfectly average child, you'll probably have a good experience here. It's average at best.

To be fair, there are several wonderful teachers at this school... if they stay. Their staff retention is abysmal.

My daughter is in middle school. The teacher are firm and fair. Expectations are high and the teachers give the proper assistance/ support to the students so that goals are achieved.

The main reason that our Daughter is at MSCS is for Catholic formation. The School does a superior job. There are Masses/prayer services, service projects and catechesis. We could not ask for better opportunities for Catholic formation.

We recently moved to the area. We were concerned about our Daughter entering a new school. In less than a week, our Daughter was integrated into the community and appeared to be a lifer at MSCS. What a perfect fit for our Family!!

Very satisfied first 2-3 years, however, culture began to change, good teachers left and no new ones came. Great teacher that challenged kids was ran off. Left very disappointed and betrayed, quality of student coming in late not up to standard. Hope archdioceses addresses it, letters were sent, but they turned blind eye also and only sent an email survey.

They do no address bullying, they pacify both parties and give the aggressor more benefit. They do not allow teachers to develop teaching plans to accommodate students individually.

Whenever the teachers would ask for help moving stuff they would always ask “can I have __ number of strong guys to help me?” And almost all the girls were either annoyed or put down by the teachers whenever this happened

They separate the kids into 3 different groups in older grades and the students are able to tell which class are the above, average and below
And for some students they don’t care but others could be affended on what class they are put into
In middle school all 3 of the classes are mixed up in homeroom

All three of my children attended Slade from Kindergarten through 8th grade and continued on to attend Catholic high schools. All three continued on to college, one successfully completed a degree in Computer Science, one is finishing his junior year majoring in Mechanical and Material Engineering and Minoring in Math, while my oldest is completing her last year of Pharmacy School. I contribute my children's success to the academic foundation and study habits instilled by the amazing teachers at Slade. Whether your child is academically gifted or learns through less traditional means, the teachers are invested in seeing your child succeed.

Monsignor Slade is a wonderful school. My son recently completed his 8th grade year after attending the school beginning with Pre-K. The staff was instrumental in preparing him for high school. My daughter is currently a student and comes home happy everyday! The teachers and administrative staff are caring, organized and truly invested in the children's success.

We are so happy we choose Slade! We have been very happy with the education our child is receiving and the overall supportive community at Slade. All of the teachers are amazing. This year the schools is focusing on "sharing the good" and being a school "Where kindness is contagious". I appreciate the dedication the administration shows to advancing the school and ensuring a positive environment for the students.

We are a new family to Slade, with a daughter who entered kindergarten this year. Our daughter loves school and all of her teachers, who have shown her kindness and provided her comfort so that she feels confident in her environment and is flourishing at the start of her academic career. As a parent, I appreciate the small class size (18 children) and the fact that there are very experienced teachers and dedicated classroom aids. So far this year, I have seen my daughter grow so quickly, learning new subjects, coming home with fun facts about the world around her and showing an excitement to learn. The focus on academics including STEM, along with a focus on values and character building, give me confidence that my daughter’s elementary school education will serve as a strong foundation to carry her through life.
Additionally, there is a strong sense of community at the school, which is supported by a very welcoming and talented school administration. There are many events held to bring the children and the families together, which as a new parent I truly appreciate. It was great to start off the year already having met other families with children going into kindergarten, along with existing families. Overall, we are very happy with our choice to enroll our daughter at Slade and look forward to growing in the community with her.

As a new family to Slade, we have been very pleased with our experience. My child's teacher was approachable, enthusiastic and experienced but also no-nonsense. She set the tone for a respectful classroom where the children were ready and excited about learning. There were about 15 kids in the class with one teacher and a teaching assistant - I think this is a very good ratio conducive to managing a classroom and offering some opportunities for individual attention. I also liked the coordination between our teacher and the other sections in my child's grade. My child made friends with kids in other sections of her grade while learning at the same pace. I appreciate the leadership at Slade. Mrs. Cox and her team are at every event and their enthusiasm is evident. I also like their vision in further infusing a strong STEM focus in the curriculum. Not only have I found them to be accessible and open to my questions and comments, I've seen them on many occasions thanking parents for investing in Slade. I disagree with a previous post in that I think Slade is definitely worth the money. With the leadership's focus on continuously improving the school and a faculty that's pretty experienced, I expect better things ahead for what is already a very, very good school.

The administration is wonderful, unfortunately the bullying by parents and students is very out of control. The Principal and most of the teachers are very involved, and care a great deal. It is a very negative environment, sadly, due to community. Hopefully, they will be able to remedy the situation soon. Enforcement of issues such as dress code is more lax than at any parochial or public school. Slade has a reputation for having difficult kids (among the local High Schools). Hostile behaviors go unnoticed. Would discourage anyone from sending their children children there, and we are glad we pulled our children.

This is a solid school and good value with two caveats: the principal is passive-aggressive and caters to the fears and anxieties of parents who have longstanding ties with the school and the Church, also the anonymous rumor mill is quite active. On the other hand, the teachers are superb, both competent and committed to the children's education. If you can ignore the nonsense and focus on the classroom experience, this a good fit for parent and child.

This school is not a quality program. Our child attended this school for two years and we were very pleased the first year with our daughters teacher and program. This year the school retained a new principal that has not been consistent with addressing issues that the school has currently. Our child was bullied and we reached out to the school in the beginning of the school year to have it fall on a deaf ear. The bullying continued throughout the year with no intervention. The school plays favoritism to students that have other siblings in the program or belong to the church. I would not recommend this school.

My daughter attends this school.it is a very difficult school to navigate especially if you are a minority(black) there.Some of the teachers will see you and walk past you like they've never had your child in their class before and walk straight other parents. Also they have a poor school to parent communication which needs some serious overhaul.

After reading through the comments, there seem to be some misconceptions. "The teachers at the school don't have any degrees in teaching and not certified to teach. Most of the teachers were students at the school or attend the church. They do not have any teaching experience." is an absolute false statement. The Archdiocese of Baltimore has made sure that each teacher is certified or will be certified by 2015. Most teachers at Slade have their certification and many have Masters degrees. If not, they are working on completing the certification. Saying the school does not have a curriculum is another false statement. The school follows the curriculum outlined by the Archdiocese of Baltimore and that curriculum is current with the national standards. My children both went to Slade, were average students, and were extremely prepared for high school. They have both said that they can identify Slade students in their high school classrooms because they are well behaved and ready to learn.

This is an an amazing school! The standards are so much higher then a county education can. Plus the added bonus of my children not having to hide their beliefs in Jesus Christ! The staff is wonderful, all the way from registration to the class room. Our family could not be more pleased!

This is a really good school, definitely worth the money. The staff really cares about the success of each child, and if they see anyone struggling, they use all their resources to assess the needs of the child to get the kid back on track. They just really want everyone to succeed. I am also impressed with the strong community of families at this school. We looked at other schools but were turned off by the cliquish atmosphere created by the families. Our experience at Slade has never been anything other than absolutely welcoming.

I did not realize in a caring, Catholic school environment, it is up to the "students" to "bring these concerns forward." This inability to recognize these systematic problems and concerns are just some things the administrators and teachers should be trained to recognize and address effectively. We support Slade in every way possible, but there ARE problems with the school and the way they address (or ignore) some very serious issues and that is the purpose of this website. I agree it is VERY SAD that several graduates and relatives of students who attend the school feel the need to post something publicly; maybe it is the only way they feel they will be finally be heard. If this were a public school, I would take a different view; it is not.

Please visit for yourself and see what Slade has to offer. It IS a caring environment with teachers whom are not only certified but also holding or pursuing Masters Degrees (and beyond). In one of the instances addressed below (the reading sign), I happened to walk in to the classroom that same day and the "a" had fallen off of the wall mid-day. Kudos to the teacher for continuing to teach and fixing the sign after school. I am sure the parent would have been upset had the teacher stopped class to repair the sign. As far as the curriculum goes, each grade has a specific curriculum they follow and Slade would not be an accrediated school if they did not. There is a bullying policy in the Parent/Student Handbook which is strictly followed. The library is one of the largest in the county private schools and is not only organized but also computerized. Schedule a visit and see for yourself.

Real courage is standing up for what is right, not posting something anonymously on a web site. If people have issues, they should address the source. Spending time on dealing with issues instead of posting negative comments on a web site is infinitely more courageous (and emotionally healthy). Everyone has a different perspective. If any one of these former students had brought their concerns to the administration/teachers in a positive, intelligent way, they may have a different perspective. You cannot change another person, but you can change how you deal with them. Be the better person. Stop ripping apart something just because things didn't go your way. My granddaughter attended Slade for kindergarten. During my open house visit, I was disappointed by the classroom appearance and reading lesson. The word reading was displayed on a classroom banner spelled: reding. The lesson was on blends/sounds at, cat, however, theprepatory reading was unrelated and did not include these phonic blends. The teacher reported there is no curriculum to follow. School climate is negative beginning with the principal and assistant principal at morning drop off. While waiting outside locked doors for the Christmas program it began to rain. A family had entered the building with a teacher. The Assistant Principal briskly escorted the family with young children back out into the rain. When trying to report a possible bullying incident, the response from school faculty was: "there is no bullying here". During the librarian's lesson the children drew on a paper plate then retrieved a book from an unorganized bin. This teacher used gender groupings. The principal was unavailable to discuss parental concerns. Teachers are not highly qualified and lack of rigorous instruction was evident in both settings witnessed. I would not recommend this school.

My children attended Slade and my friend's children attend Slade. No school is perfect but Slade offers a good education. I find that if parents communicate with teachers if they have concerns, complaints can be resolved. Teachers are very willing to give up their lunch breaks to help students and they stay after school to help students also. The school has resource teachers to support students who need extra help also. There are a wide variety of activities and a great parent volunteer program.

I graduated this school, not going to state which year. However, I was very unsatisfied with some of the Middle School teaching. Two teachers in particular: One who does not have a teaching degree and one who took forever her papers. The one without a degree set me up in a bad way for High School, causing me to recieve a low grade that I was not at all happy with. On the other hand, after taking four years of Spanish, I was still only abke to place into Spanish I at the High School level. The K-5 is outstanding; the teachers and ciriculum, but I would not recommend staying through 8th. I, along with many other students, had a poor expirence at the Middle School level. I believe some teachers need to be replaced & some need to learn more effective teaching strategies. I believe the school is losing its reputation, and it is very obvious why. Thank you for reading.

I graduated Slade in 2008, and I can honestly say that this school has truly shaped who I am today. The caring and nurturing staff concern themselves with the well being of each student. Teachers are willing to put in extra time to help those who ask and challenge their students to reach their highest potential. The education I received from Slade helped prepare me for high school. The transition into the next stage of my education was much easier, thanks to the education I received from Monsignor Slade. I attended Slade for grades K-8 and would recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a quality education and wonderful experiences.

My daughter finally graduating this year and I can tell prospective parents that this school is not a good school anymore. When we first attended the school, we were elated and found the teachers and staff to be caring. Now, the school tuition has been raised twice, teachers are leaving and being replaced with inexperienced teachers, the staff focus on families who raise a lot of money for the school. If your child does not participate in band or sports be prepared for your child to be isolated and picked on. The school operates on sports, band and teachers who have either attended the school as a child or have children at the school. You can imagine how the teachers' children wind up always being on honor roll or getting scholarships. Its a very unfair system and I have to be honest I see nothing Catholic at all about this school.

I am a student at Slade and I think the school is awesome. I have some of the best friends here. The teachers really help you when you need it, like when you don't understand something. Everybody is so nice and friendly and welcoming, so it feels like home. I love music and I am in the band and chorus, and it's really fun. It helps me show the things I like to do. I can't wait to try out for the play. We have the best music and band program around. I only have a few more years at Slade and I know I'm going to miss it when I leave.

This is my children first year in Monsignor Slade. My daughter is in third grade. She transfer from a public school, she is doing alot better she loves her teachers. She notice that teachers take interest in showing her to learn. She loves her Math teacher because, she has patients. Something mommy has to learn,"she said". I am a 8th grade student and I can testify that Slade is not a good school anymore. I have been going here since 1st grade and every year its gotten worse. I have been bullied and called names in front of teachers and they do nothing to stop them. The teachers treat "popular" kids better and they are in the high group even though they need help with most of their school work. The teachers at the school don't have any degrees in teaching and not certified to teach. Most of the teachers were students at the school or attend the church. They do not have any teaching experience. I have to rely on my parents to help me explain the lessons. If I had to choose again, I would not choose this school. Many of the "uncool" kids don't get the extra attention or work so their parents reteach them at home. I am very unhappy and can't wait to graduate.

I am a grandparent who takes care if my grandchildren while their parents work hard to send them to a private school. I am very saddened by what I have been seeing at the school. I have 2 grandchildren who are going here, one is in the 1st grade and the the other one is in intermediate. The teachers and administrators are so worried about the reputation of the school and what test scores are they forget to look at the whole picture. Are the children being treated fairly? No. Many of the scholarships and high level children are the teachers' children. The parents who know the system learn that if they want their child to succeed they have to raise a lot of money for the school and befriend the teachers. What type of Catholic politics is that? Also rules? what rules? The children wear what they want even though in the handbook in says otherwise and there is no discipline. My grandson has been bullied since he was in the 3rd grade and they just kept saying that they informed the parents. My grandchildren will be attending another private school in the area where most of the families from Slade usually go after they realize what a disappointment the school really has become

I am a current parent at the school. I have 3 children who attend this school and I have seen at the this school go downhill every year. My son graduates next year so we will be pulling our 2 remaining children out when he graduates. I will tell prospective parents to really consider your option when choosing a private school. Parents are sacrificing a lot to send their children to a private school not to have adequate and competent staff and teachers who are teaching your child. This school is failing all ALL levels.

I'm a student in the 8th grade and there is a serious bullying problem. Everyday these boys pick on everyone sometimes even teachers. They will make fun of your laugh, your hair, the way you talk or what sports you do. They try to help the bulling problem but it gets nowhere. I'm glad this is my last year so I wont have to go to the same high school as them. Thee academics are very good but one or two teachers are a lot to be desired.

Currently my son attends Spades Educate program. He attend pre school last year in public school. Wow is all I can say. The staff is simply amazing. My son T.W. is currently in what's called the Panda Room. His teacher Ms Elmira, Ms Judy and Ms Edna are truly gifted people. My son was terrified in public school and learned nothing. These teacher take some much time teaching the children so much. Every day is filled both activities and play. They believe children learn by play this is so true. My son was 4 when he started at Slade and is so excited about learning. He of course knows his ABC's, he is adding learning to read, knows a great deal of sign language. Everyday I'm so impressed with how much he is learning. At just about $800 a month for tuition it is a great strain on us financially but worth every penny. I cant wait for him to get to first grade. I just pray those teacher are half as good and the three teachers i mentioned above. Ms Jane runs the office and the financial end and has been so wonderful with us. As I said its expensive but she has helped us worked payments when tough times hit us. And they never made us feel like trash when we made a payment a little late.

I'm a student in the 8th grade at Slade. I thought the elementary school was great, but when I got to middle school it all went down hill from there. There are the usual cliques, bullying, and a few of the teachers are a bit out there. The school tries to help the bullying issue, but the kids don't listen and it continues. There's a lot of cussing too. If you aren't in the cool crowd you will be made fun of, and some kids are made fun of just because others don't like them. I've seen some kids make fun of others because of their race. Don't get me wrong though, I liked the elementary school a lot and there are some really good teachers in the middle school. Its pretty good academically, with the grading scale being tougher than public schools, and its non-advanced classes are more advanced than public ones.Overall it could be better.

Slade is a great school for academics but because the economy is very slow I think looking at the entire school is important for every family. The tuition at the school is very high compared to other schools and many families make sacrifices to send their kids to private schools. As a parent of a non White children I can testify that the school's environment try to accomadate this population but falls very short. The parents who "whisper" and "don't speak" to people who do not look like them are the ones who rule the school. So often families from different backgrounds are shut out and don't feel like you are a part of the "Slade family"..there are many incidents that happen that the school will not tell other prospective parents. They may can get a few people with different backgrounds at the school but they usually leave the school. Statistics don't lie. This is our last year here.

I am a current parent at Slade and although I do not agree with bashing a school I do agree with most of the comments about race, lack of leadership and the tuition cost. I think most of the teachers try really hard to help the students but some do not know how to help students who may need "extra" help. Also I do think the school need to address bullying at the school because it is happening.

I am currently a student in 8th grade. Slade is a good school if you yourself are student academically. K-5 is very good compared public school. Middle school is a different story. There r the usual cliques and social status. If u differ from your usual social group you end up getting pcked on. It is sometimes to get a teachers help. The academics are very good overall and is both a challenge and a good life experience. Though on a side note the school is a typical white school with little diversity. As a non caucasian student you are welcomed by the normal mannered students and are picked by the 'cool' kids if you are not good at sports or fit in. Overall the problems are with a certain clique in each grade and the school deserves its 4/5

After seeing my son come out of school after his first day of second grade smiling ear to ear I was reassured we made a wise choice when we picked Slade three years ago. Slade provides him with a safe, comforting learning environment. He has learned so much academically as well as morally. The teachers are caring and considerate of each child s needs. We are looking forward to another great year!

I have children at Slade. Been there a total of 9 years so far. I am very happy at this school. I have read thru so many of the comments posted on here, and I am very sad. I am a very commited parent volunteer at Slade, and I have not encountered the behaviors that other parents have posted. I believe that if you are interested in this school, you MUST come to the open house or call to set up a time to have a private tour. I truly think you will be pleasantlly surprised. I also have children in public school, so I have a differeent perspective on private and public education.

I recently graduated from Monsignor Slade. They were some great years that I'll never forget. When I first came to Slade in kindergarten I was very excited, but also scared of leaving home. Very quickly I made lots of friends that I'll always remember. I also learned from the teachers that you don't have to be scared, because they will always be there for you. Slade is such a great school. It prepared me very well for high school and helped me learn the importance of service to others. I'm so glad I went to Slade. I hope you'll check it out if you're looking for a great school.

Our family was deciding between two Catholic schools in our area, and we chose Slade specifically because it is more diverse than the other school. We also chose Slade because of the excellent academic perfomance, and most importantly, we chose Slade because of the strong Catholic identity. Our children are receiving a well rounded education, that fosters both academic and spiritual growth.

Great Teachers totally dedicated to the students and their families. The school also offers sports programs and the kids enjoy playing Soccer, Basketball and lacrosse with their friends.

Slade is the best Catholic school in Anne Arundel County! Although it is larger than most, it still has a small family feel to it and my children love coming to school. The teachers are the best, many of them hold advanced degrees, and the principal's emphasis on growing the students' faith is to be commended. Two of my children have graduated and moved on to Catholic high schools, and they were well prepared due to the excellent education they received at Slade. The extra-curricular offerings are wonderful, the band is outstanding and the musicals they produce are of top-notch quality. This is a school that holds high standards and the students benefit from it in every way. If you are looking for a great Catholic school, you have to check out Monsignor Slade!

Monsignor Slade Catholic School is a blessing for those who chose to send their children there. Slade has thoroughly prepared my children for high school not only academically, but socially and morally. This school has helped my children grow in to respectful, responsible young adults who take pride in what they do. The sport programs along with the band program and the annual Middle School Musical (to name a few) offer the students opportunities to try various activities. The teachers are ready and willing to help. Not only are there opportunities for advanced students but resource teachers are there for those students who struggle and have learning challenges. I HIGHLY reccomend Monsignor Slade Catholic School!
