Our experience with this school was disappointing for several reasons. However, the teachers were amazing.
Class sizes of around 30 students are simply too large, making it difficult for children who need additional instruction or individualized support to receive the attention they deserve. Accommodations for students requiring extra help appeared to be limited and when exploring what accommodations were available the schools administrators failed to follow through with helpful information.
Dismissal and pickup procedures were consistently challenging and time-consuming. For Pre-K students, pickup required walking through a parking lot on an incline, which was especially difficult during cold or inclement weather. This process can be particularly burdensome for grandparents, parents with physical limitations, or parents with an infant or other small children. Most schools have a drive up pick up routine.
There were also several unexpected costs. Families are required to pay for children to participate in out-of-uniform days, and parents are expected to complete 20 volunteer hours or pay an additional fee if they are unable to do so.
Most concerning was the schools handling of serious issues. Leadership did not provide timely responses to significant concerns and ultimately stopped responding to follow-up emails. Additionally, I was troubled by what appeared to be a lack of regard for student privacy, as personal information was discussed freely.
Based on my experience, there are significant areas where the school could improve communication, student support, privacy practices, and overall accessibility for families

Our experience at St. Stephen School was ultimately not the right fit for our family.
While there were caring individuals within the school community, we found the classroom environment difficult to navigate at times, particularly due to peer dynamics and behavioral concerns within a very small grade structure. With only one homeroom class per grade level, classroom composition becomes especially important, and there is understandably very little flexibility when a particular mix of students proves challenging socially or behaviorally.
We experienced multiple incidents involving aggressive peer behavior that extended beyond what we personally considered typical childhood conflict. While we understand that all schools and classrooms face behavioral challenges from time to time, we often felt concerned by the frequency and intensity of certain situations and did not always feel confident in the consistency of how they were addressed.
After transitioning to another private school environment, it also became clear to us that our child had not been academically challenged to the degree we had originally expected. The difference in academic expectations, classroom structure, and overall educational rigor was noticeable.
For our family, it became increasingly important that our child feel consistently safe, supported, emotionally settled, and academically engaged within the school environment. Ultimately, we made the decision that a different educational setting would be a better fit moving forward.
As with any school, fit is highly individual, and another family may have a very different experience depending on their childs personality, peer group, and classroom dynamic.

I am currently a parent at St. Stephen School. My son has been attending since preK 3. It has never crossed my mind to check for other options in the area. Both my kids love their teachers, friends and we as parents love the community and friendships we have formed. I have in the past and will recommend any time someone asks for a good elementary/ middle school

Great community of teachers and staff that create a rigorous academic environment for children that also teaches self worth. 99% of children who attend get into their high school of choice. Doors have been open for students during the pandemic and in-person learning.

Learning materials are lacking and some children are behind in reading and other academic subjects.
There is an emphasis on developing the self-worth of a child but that only goes so far in a world where children and adults need a firm basis in academic subjects.

We have been members of the St. Stephen School Community for 9 years and my children thrive here! I use the word community because that is exactly what it is--- it is a place you call home. The small school size provides benefits that go beyond the classrooms---students here are confident yet humble, well-spoken yet appropriate, mannerly and kind in a way that is unusual in the world today. The teachers not only dedicate themselves to their craft of teaching but also to every child they teach and in EVERY way that matters. The faculty and staff go above and beyond to ensure success in everything they do. Faith, Values and Education is not merely a motto here, it is something that is lived & loved every single day. St. Stephen School is a beacon of hope in what proves to be a dismal world! I couldnt be more happy with our choice and cant imagine being anywhere else.

Students at this school are challenged intellectually and formed morally! We love St. Stephen because of the community atmosphere and the sense of self that each child receives from their teachers and mentors. A worthwhile investment!

Last year we transferred our daughter from Perry Hall Elementary to St Stephen. She was going into the 2nd grade so we all were nervous about the switch. We were amazed how welcoming everyone was to us. The parents, faculty, and children are so warm and caring. The education she received surpassed our expectations. She has excelled academically and socially. The school has great extra curricular activities too. In one year, we have all made so many friends. It's not just a school, it's a family. Someone asked Kelsey why she liked her new school. Her answer confirmed that we made the right choice. She said "Because everyone is nice to me and each other." We couldn't be happier at St. Stephen!

Faith, values, education...Saint Stephens is thriving! They are building a new Pre-K building for 3 and 4 year olds that will open in fall of 2014. They are also preparing to add air conditioning to the main K-8 school building. Wifi throughout the campus and more I-pads being added for the students. The school is an island of sanity in an insane world. This is the America you grew up in- Church on Sunday, family picnics, carnival, school plays, involved parents. Saint Stephen can be summed up in one moment- in the middle of recess when the Church bells ring all 300+ students stop, stand silent, and face the Church. Its truly amazing and heartwarming to witness. The teachers and parents are very involved and act as one big family. You will not be disappointed! Your child is worth the investment!

We left a local public school for St. Stephen. I had no idea what a private school was all about since all I've ever known is public. It has far exceeded my expectations. It's a very loving and friendly atmosphere. My child is thriving and loves going to school! The principal to the maintenance man work very hard to make a great school even better.

I've taught at St. Stephen School for 23 years. My children all graduated from here, and my grandchildren will be attending soon. This school has a family atmosphere, very supportive parents, teachers who always put the concerns of their students first, and a faculty with whom it has my pleasure to work. I love this place!!!

St. Stephen School is a small catholic elementary school, comprised of one class per grade from Pre-K to 8th grade. St. Stephen School provides a wonderful academic and religious educational program. Many teachers have advanced degrees. St. Stephen School offers a state of the art science lab and a computer lab for their students. In addition to the required curriculum, classes are offered in art, foreign language, music, and physical education. The beauty about St. Stephen School is not only the parents and teachers are excited about the school but the students are excited about their experiences at St. Stephen School.

What's not to love about St. Stephen School? We have the best principal, staff and teachers you could ever hope for. They are dedicated to helping further our children's educational, emotional, and spiritual growth. Core solid family values make St. Stephen a strong, save environment for our children to learn and grow in. The school's attitude, acceptance, flexibility, adaptability and diverse approach in today's modern culture make it very unique (a good mixture of conservative and liberal). We are strongly supported by our parents, Home/School and Father s Club Associations, our School Board, Alumni, Parish and surrounding community. Our children graduate from St. Stephen School well prepared both educationally and spiritually ready to face life s new challenges. I am a proud parent of two students of St. Stephen School and couldn't be happier with the educational, emotional, social and spiritual grow the school has provided them.

This school has all of the ingredients needed for success-great leadership in our principal, caring and devoted teachers and staff, and very dedicated parents, many of whom are making a financial sacrifice to send their children here. I love how the Father's Club can assemble a workforce with just a few emails or phone calls.

I love St. Stephen School because of the great family atmosphere. I really feel that we all pull together to make a great school environment. Everyone works very hard to make the school such a success. I am extremely grateful to the wonderful faculty and staff at the school for their devotion and hard work they provide to our children. Their goal is to make our children better people, to be more compassionate and caring with one another. They encourage faith and growth in them to acheive so much. I could not think of a better place for my children to learn and grow.
