Riverdale academics are above the public school's in PG County. My child informed me multiple times of transfers who come in from public schools behind the curve in what they are currently learning. Unfortunately, the school is older and we have experienced several maintenance issues which closes the school. It is also a religious school so they do not participate in many social activities including prom's. Most recently the high school principal left and was replaced with the history teacher, when she left her entire family who all held positions in the school left with her. To me it was a very obvious "hook-up" and now the freshman who are now sophomore's had to deal with such a significant change. Same for the Football program, i believe all resources are placed into their baseball program. Riverdale is a good school but it really seems like they are stuck in the 70s. They also lack transportation and you have to pay for before or after care services.

For almost $14k a year you would think you would get more than just a good curriculum. I would still recommend this school cause education is what matters most but for parents considering this school be mindful that's all that the school will offer as well.

We love this school, and our child is doing absolutely great. The teachers and staff are engaged, and we see amazing results. This is our 2nd year and we would dare not remove them from this school for public or different private school.

I usually don't write reviews, but I felt compelled to do one for RBS. Now this review IS important and different from others, because we are in a pandemic, this year has been 100% virtual. I am parent of current Kindergartner at RBS, so my child started their first year of school, online. I started the school year very anxious and worried if my child would retain the lessons via an Ipad. It is the beginning of 3rd quarter, I can not expressed how happy and impressed I am with the school and the K5 teacher. The instructional materials being provided, the patience and time given to each individual child is amazing. Never leaving a child behind, the materials and proper study plans given to parents to assist their child outside of instruction time. My child is doing amazing in virtual learning at RBS, and I can only imagine what it will be like when we return to the classroom. I am so proud of how well my child is doing with their learning skills. Just a little background, I did not go over ABC's, counting, etc, at home, the daycare did this for me. Never stressed it at home, my child loves playing on the ipad, and never cared for "learning time" when I did try to incorporate it. With the instruction and guidance of RBS's amazing K5 teacher, my child is soaring in academics. It was important for me to do this review because this time last year, I was the parent researching schools/reading reviews online, trying to find the perfect school for virtual learning. So I wanted to give my true experience of this school for parents trying to figure it out right now. It's hard trying to find a good school, but to find a good school during a pandemic and figure out which school is providing the best education virtually to is NEXT LEVEL challenging/stressful. I thank God for guiding me in this decision. We are re-enrolled for 1st grade next year, and I am so excited for my little one. When I tell people the amount of work they do in K5, their response is "that's so much for a 5 y/o". Let me tell you, YOUR CHILD CAN DO ANYTHING. This type momentum in the virtually or in the classroom is the path to success, and I am happy this is how we started our child's academic career. Praying for the parents looking for schools at this moment. You got this!

I attended RBS five years through middle school and high school. While I struggled with grades due to ADD, I had many teachers and staff who encouraged me and assisted in my learning. Even through our 2020 year (Covid and all) RBS had us prepared to keep learning from the beginning of the pandemic. My senior year was my best year as a student! They did their best to see we had a great experience despite being "locked out". I look forward to the school reopening when athletes and scholars both walk the halls and run on the fields and courts! I am prepared to face college life due to the academic and spiritual preparations I received at RBS.

RBS was once a prominent school, YEARS ago. RBS is currently at it’s ALL TIME LOW!!! Some classes are over crowded (26 or more) kids in some classes due to firing of teachers. Yet, tuition continues to increase EVERY year. RBS should be a positive and Christ centered experience for ALL that attend, not a select few. I give the school a ZERO!!!

This is my daughter’s 5th year at RBS, I can honestly say her First and Fourth grade teachers the PE teacher and Spanish teacher were the BEST! Second Grade teacher lacked concern for my daughters learning needs, Third Grade teachers, who is now the Principal was/ is TRASH. Sadly, teachers allege to be educators yet they lack common sense.

Bullying should be UNHEARD of in this “Christian” school. Bullying is very much a problem in the school that is being ignored. It appears money and not losing students is more important than a child’s physical and emotional well-being!! RBS bullying policy is a JOKE and ineffective if the kids and their parents are NOT held accountable. Kids that bully and/or isolate other kids should NOT be allowed in a Christian school. Especially, if the kid CAN NOT be rehabilitated!! Moreover, if the parents chose to be offended or in denial when advised of their child’s demonic behavior.

My experience has been good. Our faith is affirmed, my 3 kids have adult advocates when they have challenges, the staff are helpful and a joy to interact with. Recent administrative changes have sent us into a place of transition, but I am confident that school is on the upswing.

Elementary students have sensible amounts of homework that provides practice for them. Middle school students and high school students are not overloaded but receive a good amount of at-home practice work.

Teachers vary in their style and effectiveness. But all of the teachers genuinely care for the academic as well as spiritual growth of their students. The teachers are proficient in their disciplines and work collaboratively to provide a diverse group of classes and electives for students. Many teachers provide tutoring after school and they are extremely supportive of the students activities outside of the classroom. The kids have good relationships with the staff overall.

The school makes every attempt to do so.However, many challenges arise because despite it being a Christian school, many of our families do not commit themselves and their families to Christian practices and habits such as church membership and Bible study. This makes it difficult for the school because students receive varying messages at home and at school. However, staff are committed to providing access to students to grow and learn about their faith through chapel services, character awards, and bible study and mentoring groups led by the teachers.

Because of the limitations of being a small school, they are not able to provide special education services to the degree that a public school can. However, most teachers are willing to work with students who have varying needs.

I think the school does a decent job managing bullying. Of course, many new ways of bullying have arisen in this technology age. The elementary school has a bullying contract and many more students were disciplined this past year for bullying than I recall in recent years.

Not effective. Some students get away with anything. Students often wonder how a student that is a known bully never gets in trouble even though the student has a known history of violent behavior. Students believe he is a relative or his parents have money.

It’s not worth the money, they need a change. They do not have any up to date processes to educate. Antiquated style of teaching. The iPads are for show, the students rarely use them. Teachers do not assign any assignments using current technology. They are so far behind. A public school would be better. Student teacher ratio is on the public school level.

I am neutral/agree because the majority of the teachers care that the student(s) is not understanding the assignment, not doing well on test and offer concern. It has been my experience that all teachers don't reach out to parents but parents have to do their part and communicate to the teacher and their child. Renweb site is a great start for conversation. I have had productive meetings with teacher when necessary.

In the last two years I have seen this happen. If you have not seen this improve in your child, you may need to look at home. JMO No shade just keeping it real. RBS is there to assist your child's in these areas but it starts at home. I have often witness a teacher or administrator addressing a student who is lacking in this area. Even during sporting events.
Students who lie, cheat and/or steal are punished as appropriate.

I see where the Leadership is trying to take the school. No it is not going to happen overnight but I would like to see more from them. Act on your promises and make things happen to better the students and the school reputation. Please bring in a Head of School who has experience in heading a school and allow the current actors to go back to their positions. Hire a real middle school principal. Folks with experience and credentials is what the school needs. Hear the students and parents out when they say a teacher is not effectively teaching their child, move on pass the loyalty due to longevity. Make a conscience efforts to find good teachers . Make teachers more accountable for their negative actions towards student body.

I think this would be hard because the teachers/classes move at a steady pace. Trying to fit it all in. They don't spend too much time on a lesson. So if someone is falling behind it can be difficult for that person. Teachers do stay late to offer help and this is where it can be addressed.

I'm not sure I can disagree with this one because my son was accused of bullying and it got serious as in possible expelling but once it was officially investigated, it was not bullying at all. It as a misunderstanding in which the other student was listening to gossip. I ask my child and others if they experience or see bullying at RBS and they respond no.

Honestly freshman year was an adjustment but by 2nd half all was better. I found communication and involvement in your child's school lesson/activities made a big difference. Get to know the administration and athletic coaches.
Could it use some improvement? Of course, what school couldn't. The
student body has improved (a lot of the behavioral issues are gone). Some staff need improvement. It is not okay for a teacher to yell at a student, go back and forth with a student arguing or just ignore a students needs for help. Loyalty to longevity is not the way to go. A teacher should desire to teach not show up for the pay. I know teachers have bad days, we're all human. There are teachers there who desire to teach. Someone mentioned teachers fixing grades for athletes, well the athlete aren't aware of this because if so you wouldn't end up ineligible for activities list .
Also someone mentioned school has a lot of gay people in it. If you are talking to your child and their teen friends, it is not at RBS only, it is in other private and public schools.

As a teacher and a parent of a high school student, RBS is much more effective than other local CHRISTian schools. While private schools may be more effective academically or athletically, if you are seeking CHRISTian instruction and a biblical world-view, RBS is the school. Many teachers come early and stay late . . .even until 7pm or later tutoring, assisting and attending events. Do not believe the comments from students and families who did not agree with the biblical standards or conduct required.

I went to Riverdale Baptist for two years of high school and learned absolutely nothing. I was treated horribly by the staff, and the school only cares about the athletics programs and the students involved. They change the grades of athletes so they can pass them to gain more recognition for their school while letting non athletic students drown in overwhelming tests and quizzes with lack of teaching. They pick and choose which students to punish and how severe the punishment based on popularity. The student body's SAT scores are poor and they majority of the students who are passing are cheating, all while the staff turns a blind eye. Sending your child to Riverdale Baptist would not only be a grave mistake, but a disservice to your child. Take my word for it, Riverdale Baptist School's name will not live up to the expectations. Dr. Harris and Mr. Brown are the worst thing to have ever happened to the school and if send your child there you will realize that soon enough.

It is very difficult to say a school promotes Christian values when teachers and administrators constantly bully and oppress the students. If your child is NOT an elite athlete this is NOT the school for you. The new Dean of Students - Tarik Harris - endorses a do as I say not as I do policy. The HS Principal Delano Brown is an RBS graduate who repeatedly makes promises to parents and guarantees that are not met and follow through is non-existent. Mr. Harrisson - Administrator - mysteriously disappears when sought out to address or resolve issues raised by parents.

Teachers do not feel it is necessary to provide accurate grades -- or grades at all and when they do - if asked to provide copies of graded schoolwork -- no response or an excuse why it is not possible is common place. (The Administration refuses to address)

If you pay tuition - do not expect to be respected unless you have something other than on time tuition payments to offer.

If your child IS an elite athlete you will be respected and permitted to do whatever you please as long as the team wins.

Riverdale was changing when we were there. My daughter did great things there and has continued her education elsewhere and I truly believe Riverdale got her prepared! i do believe Mr. Harrison was making changes for the greater good. He's always been upfront and honest. It's sad to see one disgruntled parent try to smash the schools reputation! Keep doing what you do Mr. Harrison! More great things to come!

My son has attended Riverdale Baptist School for 5 years. The curriculum changes often and does not offer what one would expect from a "private" school. However, the elementary principal promotes Christian values. I will not allow my son to go into the middle school because of the MS principal. She lies and is very immature. The MS does not follow the mission statement that is promoted to the parents. My daughter attended the middle school and one year in high school before I had enough and put her in another school. My advice to anyone considering placing their child in Middle or High School is to save your money. The leadership is awful. They are not qualified to babysit in my opinion. My daughter had a teacher with no degree at all, homosexuality is commonplace in the upper grades, and excessive bullying from teachers as well as students. The school is basically a joke. The students are not even able to test into better private schools because academically the school is worse than any Title I public school.

At times its hard to listen and obey. We wan too talk and play and such. When we get punished one teacher makes us write a long bible verse. Not only have i memorized that long verse by heart, but I also have something to share with other people or use when I'm afraid or need help and God.

This is a good school. I admit sometimes the teachers bother me sometimes. overall Riverdale is actually not a bad school its actually the types of students that come in and mess things up for others.I've been here since K-4 and have found nothing wrong with Riverdale. reviews that are rude are put there just to make other people doubt river dale even though you haven't been there to experience it. We do have a Christ like environment and not everyone that attends Riverdale is saved. Thats why parents bring there kids so they could find some discipline and a glimpse of knowing Christ. Thats why there are few to little incidents in middle and high school because they teach us how to start having good education and Christ. Luke 5:2 says I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.That means that Jesus has not come and given the teachers the ability not to just teach the perfect, smart, and, kind Riverdliens (thats what I call them) but ones who are lost, on there way to Hell, sinful, and make mistakes. WE will tell you straight up to make sure you try to get saved. This is my story as an 8th grader getting ready to graduate from there and head off to Riverdale high school still.

My son has attended RBS for 3yrs . My experience as been good and bad. Some of the teachers do care about the students and some don't. They have a serious problem with peer pressure which isn't address by the teachers. They turn their heads. The administration say they will address the problem but nothing really happens. I wonder are the teachers really Christians ... They should be more understanding to the children listen to them. They have a voice. Otherwise RBS is ok to me. Would I return probably, I have a voice.

As a teacher here, I must advise that the negative reviews of this school are more truthful than not. It is unfortunate that Riverdale's Christianity seems to fade outside of the chapel service. There are many problems in the administration & teacher's frustrations are felt by some students in the classroom.

I have been a student at Riverdale since the 6th grade. Over the years seeing different changes had some good sides and some bad. Middle school was nice, I got along with most of the teachers well and had close relationships with them. High school was a different story. The initial principle who eventually left was there and she had her ways. She wasn't that bad even though she could have done some things differently. We got a new administrator when I was in the 10th and he kind of made things Alittle better. Now in 11th the principal left and Mr Harrison became the high school's acting principal and changed a lot in a bad way.He started to grow ignore parents and students request. Everything was all about the teachers. Especially when there was a new teacher came, was hard understanding and treated the students with disrespect. The administration had done nothing about it and had poor customer service. Teachers do not update edline like they are supposed to. I feel there is no help at Riverdale at all. If you are looking for a good school, I would not suggest Riverdale. They can do so much better.

Riverdale Baptist School is supposed to be a Christian school. But in this school there are drugs, sex, and stealing just like any other school if not worse. The teachers dont stop to help students even when it come to the foreign language class. And several teaches find it ok to deny the student permission to go to the bathroom if they the teacher feels it is to early in class when in most cases 5 he student was denied in the previous class because the teacher felt it was to late. They mistreat our children and force a work load that they can't possibly carry then make the children go back and grade it also. This school is a joke and I would steer all families away from it.

Riverdale Baptist has to be the worst school. This is supposed to be a "Godly" school. From the 3 years I have been a part of the "family" i have seen nothing but devilish behavior. Some teachers do not teach. My child has to learn from the internet how to do some thing. I've been told that the teachers allow students to grade test and quizzes. This is unacceptable. 1st & probably last yr. @ RBS. Teachers work against students taking pts. off school work 4 any lil thing. Acting principal w8s til parents threaten 2 file complaint b4 he actually looks N2 matters. Teachers disrespect students but want students to respect them. Students don't have a voice - it's either the teacher's way or the highway. RBS even has a rule N the student handbk that support this. Some teachers don't put grades NOR assignments online but expects parents & students 2 know what the grades and/or assignments R. Teachers don't show godly love. One teacher constantly made unnecessary & unprofessional comments. When brought 2 attn of principal (several Xs) nothing was done til a white student came w/ parent & complained. This teacher often made racial comments 2 this white students. Math & science teacher weak - my child had to learn from the internet. Grading was subjective. BUT, chapel was the best thing @ RBS. Sports @ RBS were good - some coaches not so. Students seemed to get along. There were some ungodly incidents goN on that surprised us - sexual in nature - kids videotaping & sharing w/ others. Everyone goN 2 a Christian school doesn't come from a Christian home.

My child is a student at Riverdale, and it hasn't been a good experience. He's been there from K-5 - 8th. The principal really don't listen to the parents, and the teacher is always right. Edline is a joke with some teachers. One minute you think your child has an A, the next minute when it's report card time, you find out that your child has a D. When questioned about the grades the teachers states that you should have come to them. When you explain that you had no reason because you thought your child was getting an A, they act like you are wrong. The teachers fail to realize that when they know that your child is not doing well in school that they need to contact you!

I attended RBS from K-5 to 8th grade. I'm so happy I left. Riverdale isn't all its cracked up to be, and it only gets worse the older you get. When I went to Flowers HS after riverdale I realized I wasn't as well prepared as the other students who went to a public MS. But at Riverdale I was getting 3.5 and above. If i stayed at Riverdale I dont think it would have prepared me for the real world as much as Flowers did. The teachers baby the students where as at Flowers if you don't do the work its on you. Riverdale is a sports school. As much as they like to claim their academics are challenging they're really not. When I went to Flowers I was so behind with my learning making my first year at a public school, ever, extremely challenging. If you do want to send your child to a private school I would suggest a catholic one, and not Riverdale.

I attended Riverdale Baptist School from K-5 through 12th grade. It was not always the best experience, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Riverdale. The curriculum is challenging. The class size is small and you get to know your teachers. The school is not perfect, but they more than make up for it in the way they care for each student. You can tell your teachers really want you to succeed, not just academically, but spiritually. Its a down to earth, safe environment. I've never felt shunned or ignored by teachers or staff. The building and grounds were built in the 70's, but its in better condition than most public schools in the area. The sports programs are out of this world. They just got a brand new sports stadium for soccer, football and track. Its fantastic. I would highly recommend not judging this school on what I've said or any of the other reviewers though. Go and see them, go with an open heart to where God is leading you to send your child. Riverdale is an excellent school.

My son attended this school because I thought it would be a great alternative to the public schools in my area. He attended for K-5 and first grade. And although he had wonderful teachers both years, Mrs. Reed and Mrs. White, I withdrew him following several incidents and observations that really left me disillusioned. Two incidences in particular really caused me great concern. A Scooby Doo cartoon movie was shown by a sub while our regular teacher was out. It was an episode with zombies and demonic spirits. I do not allow my son to watch this cartoon at home. When I brought this to the attention of the administration it fell on deaf ears. As did the voicemail and email I sent to Principal Harbel about my son being inappropriately touched by a classmate. I gave a star to his two teachers in my rating. The administration is unresponsive.

My child went to the school to take the exam, I had to call for almost a month to get results. Bad customer service, they were quick to process my payment. No follow up and they told me to be patient..Really?

The teachers have no form of customer service. They go weeks not responding to emails, the math teachers dumps grades in at the last minute, some teachers do not load grades into edline until the report cards are due. The principal stands by her teachers no matter what. This high school experience has been a living nightmare. The administration knows how to come after you for a payment if you are less than 1 week late but you are not getting any service for your money. These teachers need to be held accountable. It is a disgrace how the faculty has no regard for the parents/students.

I was releuctnat to enroll due to al the reviews but I had no choice in the matter. I sent emails to 3 particular teachers and I would not get any responses. They do not put the grades into edline like they are supposed to. The principal can be down right disrespectful with her lack of regard to her parent's concerns. She allows them to do whatever they want and the scary part is the teachers know it and they behave with a lack of regard for the parents. Alot of parents are taking their children out and I hope they do not wonder why.

My son is in 8th grade he has been here since 4th grade. His educational experience have been great and very challenging. I also must say that the students there are great kids, well mannered and respectful. As a parent we always focus on the teachers and the education, but one of the main thing is the students peers. And Riverdale students reflect a very positive religious attitude.

My son has attended RBS from K5 thru 2nd grade. We don't have experience with the current middle or high school, but RBS has an excellent Elementary program with a dedicated and friendly Elementary principal. All of our son's teachers have been qualified and professional. Teacher communication has been wonderful with email and use of Edline. Our son has grown both intellectually and spiritually. For Elementary, I would highly recommend RBS for your child.

it seem like it only tends to the athlete not any actitvites really good most of the money that does come in seem not to go to the eduction side of things but to the afletices instead they need lots of stuuf fot the acedicmis but it not there
