My experience thus far has been disappointing to say the least. My child was harassed by a teacher (nothing was done). The administrators and teachers are gatekeepers of higher level
courses- if your child does not make all As, you will have to fight for them to take honors or AP classes. Also- they use the HSPT for placement 9th grade year- so even if your child has amazing middle school grades- but may not score well on the standardized test - they will be automatically put them in standard CP classes. Parents or students have little to no control over the level classes they take- it is always the recommendation of the teacher which can be subjective depending on how they feel about your child. This school is only worth the $35,000 if you have a 4.0 child. If you have an average/above avg kid they are better off in a great public school. Save your money- I wish I would’ve. Also- they will experience the same issues that high school kids in public school encounter- drugs, vaping, alcohol and sex…so again, save your money for college or find another school. On a positive note- it is a beautiful school, great facilities, and awesome football, soccer and lacrosse team.. Overall, the teachers are okay.

Deciding to send out son to a private school was very difficult for my wife and I. Added to that is that OLGCHS is a Catholic school and we are not Catholic. Looking back, it should have been an easy decision. We have been thrilled with every aspect of the school. From their willingness to adapt his education to address his challenges and to challenge his strengths has been remarkable. The academic environment has just blown us away.

If I were to be completely honest I would say Good Counsel changed my life. The environment is so amazing and supportive. I was shocked when I looked at the demographics and saw that it was 70% white because it honestly feels so much more diverse than that (coming from a minority student). I saw a comment about racial issues, but in my 4 years, I've personally never encountered or heard about one. And even though this is a Catholic school, you don't have to be catholic to attend. GC really does embrace the differences of its students. In religion, we don't just learn about Catholicism or Christianity but other religions and how they're both different and similar to Catholicism. I love that our school offers both service and exchange trips, our most popular is our El Salvidor service trip. We also go to places like Jamaica, Ireland, Australia, Austria, and France. I could go on and on about how amazing a school GC is but I'll stop here. Hopefully, this was helpful.

I believe the homework policy here is pretty straight forward. If you miss an assignment you either have a 0 or a 0.1 if you have a 0.1 that means the assignment is able to be made up. All classes follow this policy, but it's up to the teacher if they will allow you to makeup the assignment. It also depends on the reason you missed the assignment. I believe our homework system is pretty straightfoward and fair.

Like all schools, there are going to be some teachers you don't prefer. I would say that overall the teachers are really great, and will try to work with you. There's also a lot of resources to use if you're struggling in a class. We have peer tutoring, resource time to go talk with teachers, and up to your junior year, you'll have a study hall to see a teacher or work on whatever you need.

After being at this school for the last 4 years I can say that the administration truly does do a wonderful job of building strong character within the students. From our community outreach like service trips or events, we host for the less fortunate to our retreats we have which allow us to grow the bond between peers, ourselves, and God.

We have our general classes for the majority of our students, but we also have our Ryken program which is for students who may struggle with learning disabilities like ADHD or Dyslexia, or if they just need a more specialized approach to learning the material. And you can mix and match what general classes you want to take along with Ryken classes, if those are the classes you struggle with.

Fantastic school! My child's education is able to be tailored to his needs. He can attend AP and Honors classes while at the same time receive support in math, which is his weak area. In essence, they tailor the education to the child. The community seems overall kind and caring and the block schedule has been a huge blessing so that the homework is a little more manageable. This year most students have a resource period built into the schedule so they are able to study, do homework, meet with a teacher or whatever is needed during that time. This has been wonderful! We have had a few teachers we didn't love but overall most are incredible. The only area the school could improve is a more uniform use of technology. Some books are online, some are hard copy, some teachers ask for papers to be submitted to Google Docs, others use Dropbox and others ask for a hard copy. It seems all over the place and not always easy to manage. All books should be on the ipad at this point and uniform technology should be more widely adopted. Other than this, our son is so happy and has made a nice group of friends and there seems to be a group for everyone and differences are embraced. There are also tons of clubs, activities and sports. The sports are good but not that good that your kid would be cut out of all teams which happens at other catholic high schools. Overall, I feel our kid is getting an amazing education and he comes home happy and fulfilled. What more can we ask for?

Our family has been very pleased with the academics, resources and activities available. However, the school lacks diversity in the student population and faculty/staff. There is also a climate of disturbing racist behavior towards minority students. The administration does not properly address these issues. Minority students are marginalized and seen as at fault or targeted when complaints are made. Majority students often get away with making blatant, derogatory comments and insinuations about their minority peers. The issues range from insensitive remarks about skin color, being from the jungle or being on scholarship to insulting their intelligence by indicating students are only being accepted to specific colleges due to affirmative action initiatives. Even a few teachers and a disciplinarian have gotten away with disturbing statements that are offensive. In 2016, the school tensions rose to the point of Trump supporting students and Black Lives Matter students trading barbs during spirit week. We have been disappointed with this aspect of the school.

Our student transferred from another WCAC school and the difference is remarkable! Such a pleasant change! More joy, less stress and much improved high school experience. Wish we'd started here in the first place!
The general vibe of the school is upbeat and positive and there's a real sense of community. Terrific teaching, coaching and admin staff with great communication with parents.
Very, very happy we made the switch!

This is school has EVERYTHING to offer and more... You have to actually see the school yourself to appreciate the technology, teachers, administration and even the students in action. Very well rounded with many different programs for every "young" adult to reach their full potential. My daughter is now attending her second year and is enjoying the Honors Program, in which the teachers and curriculum give her everyday challenges to enrich her education. On the other side, the sports; clubs; activities, and electives to choose from make it an ideal supportive environment.

This school is fantastic. My daughter is in her junior year and loves it. I am impressed with the teachers. Well organized, available for help or any questions students may have. They treat the kids with respect and in turn the kids respond well to the teachers.
