I am a former student from this place they call a school. My experience was mostly negative and I often felt targeted at times by teachers. I have severe ADHD and Im mixed (half white and half Filipino), for some reason I was constantly hated by teachers who had no sense of empathy. Whenever I had a hard time on a certain topic in class or had a hard time focusing, instead of helping me, my teachers openly judged me and compared me to my peers asking why cant you just focus like they can? At some point my parents had a meeting bf with my teachers to discuss certain issues and we all agreed on a plan that would allow me extra time on tests and let me turn in homework a day later but it was hardly enforced and many of my teachers chose to ignore the plans. Even when I had a valid excuse as to why I didnt do my homework one night because my sister was hospitalized my teacher simply didnt care and still wrote me up. They also dont seems to care much about bullying, when I was in first or second grade these two older kids chased me around the playground calling me an alien, I went to tell the teacher 4 times but nothing was ever done. DO NOT send your kids here if they have any kind of disability whether its mental, physical, and/or a learning disability. I swear they will also hire teachers who hate kids, I had an English teacher in 4th grade who was insufferable, a gym teacher who actively bullied/ ridiculed kids, a 1st grade teacher who clearly would rather be out with friends partying then teaching a bunch of 1st graders, and so many teachers who were clearly underpaid and took their frustrations out on the students (not physically but definitely verbally and emotionally).

Small class sizes are perfect at keeping little ones from being overwhelmed. The faculty makes sure each kid understands what the goal is and how to get there in an efficient way. I can't say enough nice things about the people who I trust with my kids on a daily basis.

We have 2 students at HRS. The teachers are what make this school so awesome - I have never seen more commitment and dedication to ensuring students thrive. Whenever we need extra support, the teachers have gone above and beyond to make sure my kid's best interest is priority. I am really happy to see a strong focus on STEM related subjects. The community is welcoming and close knit. We love all of the extra curriculars available - our kids participate in Girls on the Run, CYO, Girl Scouts - all run by awesome parents and family members who go above and beyond to give the kids opportunities to learn and grow.

As parents of two students (currently in 1st and 2nd grades), we have been delighted with our experience at Holy Redeemer. The school creates a wonderful balance of faith, academics, and community, providing a nurturing environment where our children are flourishing.

The Catholic identity is expressed through prayer and Mass, but also through service and values-based education. Its wonderful to see our children growing in their faith and learning compassion, kindness, and respect.

We also appreciate the focus on STEM. Our kids love the hands-on learning, engineering projects, and problem-solving challenges. The teachers are fantastic and create an interactive, fun learning environment that sparks curiosity and instills a love of learning. The sense of community at Holy Redeemer is one of its greatest strengths. Parents, teachers, and staff collaborate to create a supportive, inclusive atmosphere. Events and volunteer opportunities foster relationships and make families feel connected. Each grade level has a buddy grade which also fosters a strong sense of community within the school. My kids love when they get together for a project with their buddies. It's wonderful to see them developing bonds with older students, their role models.

The recent changes in leadership and administration has been a challenge for sure. It has been stressful and the bonds of our community have been tested. While these changes have presented new challenges we remain hopeful that together we can solve the issues at hand and come out on the other side stronger and more committed to our mission. I feel confident about the growth and success of our school.

Overall, Holy Redeemer is a fantastic place where faith, learning, and community come together. Despite the challenges of transition, the school continues to provide an excellent environment for children to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. We look forward to its bright future!

Our family has been parishioners and parents of three students since 2013. Holy Redeemer is a large part of our childrens upbringing and I give the teachers huge credit in shaping our sons lives and to be good and compassionate people within the community. The curriculum mixes cutting edge technology while instilling a genuine push to be a better person and practical teachings of the Catholic faith.

As a parent, finding a school that truly meets both the academic and personal needs of your child can feel like a daunting task. But from the moment we walked into Holy Redeemer School of College Park, we knew we'd found something special. This small, diverse, Catholic school has been an incredible blessing to our family, providing not only a great education but a supportive, nurturing environment where our children are encouraged to grow in every aspect of their lives.

One of the first things that stood out to us about the school is its commitment to academic excellence and support. The curriculum is rigorous but tailored to the needs of each student. This is one of the few small Catholic schools with a dedicated Special Education Resource teacher which meant a lot given the needs of our child. Teachers know each child by name and take the time to understand their strengths and areas for growth. With smaller class sizes, our kids are able to engage more directly with their teachers, ask questions, and really dive into their studies. The personalized attention they receive fosters a genuine love of learning and helps them succeed in ways that are sometimes difficult to achieve in larger, more impersonal institutions.

In addition, at the heart of Holy Redeemer is a firm commitment to Catholic values, which are seamlessly woven into every part of the school day. From morning prayers to whole school service projects, our children are growing not just in their intellectual abilities but in their character. My wife and I could not be happier with our decision to send our 2 children here. The faculty and staff is amazing. Truly a family enviroment! Community events bring all ages together. Course curriculum is Catholic based but also STEM oriented. My children are challenged everyday to use their minds and imagination.

We have our two kids at HRS. We've loved the Pre-K, K and 1st grade programs. The teachers are nurturing and great with the children. We feel our kids have learned a lot in their time at HRS, made great friends, and become part of a positive school community which is dedicated to an academically rigorous Catholic education with STEM aspects as well. They have activities for the students such as Lego club, CYO sports, etc.

We love Holy Redeemer School! It is an incredible, close-knit school with a community that is fully committed to its success.

We were first drawn to HRS for its reputation in our neighborhood as being a welcoming school with a firm anti-bullying stance. The teachers and administration work hard to maintain a supportive learning environment where students feel welcome and wanted.

What sets HRS apart from other area schools is its small class sizes, its balanced and integrated STEM curriculum, and its committment to developing the whole person. HRS students are some of the nicest kids I have ever met. The teachers here are incredible educators that encourage collaboration and inspire a joyful curiousity in their students.

What I love most about the school is how the teachers (due to the small class sizes and their tenure at the school) really know my kids and are able to encourage and support them one-on-one. This personal attention has really helped my kids to thrive -- both academically and personally.

We absolutely adore HRS! Since joining the parish in 2006, we have felt a genuine sense of belonging within this wonderful community. When our children came along, it was clear that HRS would be the ideal school for our family, and we officially became part of the HRS family in 2019.

What truly stands out to us are the small class sizes, which foster a nurturing environment where each child can thrive. The sense of community is palpable, and the extracurricular activities offered are both enriching and engaging. My husband and I couldn't be more pleased with Holy Redeemer School. Our children enjoy going to school and really feel like they are part of a family. The teachers and staff keep a watchful eye on the students and make them feel comfortable and welcome. They both have made tremendous progress in reading and math. Teachers give a reasonable amount of homework, and all work is posted online for easy access. The homework given reinforces what students have learned in the classroom. Students are also given summer work through an online, interactive website that helps students retain and practice the skills they've learned over the course of the school year.

I am so pleased with HRS. The school is organized and effectively prepares students for the future. As a high school teacher, Ive said several times that the students who come from HRS are often above their peers in terms of academic readiness. They are friendly and polite. They show integrity and the desire to persevere even when work is difficult. Im excited that my own children will follow in the footsteps of students like these as they continue their journey through elementary and middle school.

I love this school so much! I am impressed with their special education accommodations. I have seen first-hand how well they take care of students who have IEPs, medical conditions, etc. The proof is in the pudding, and that can clearly be seen for the graduating 8th grade students. Their high school placements are amazing, their test scores are great, and the high schools are extremely impressed with how well prepared they are for high school. I know many parents complain out the homework and mid-terms in middle school, but it is to prepare the students for high school and beyond. I cannot be happier with my investment in this school for my children!

If you have a child that is intellectually curious, or has any learning related disability, or in any way deviates from the norm, stay far away from this school. HRS is not equipped in any way to deal with out of the box thinking. The bullying policy is abominable, and even physical assaults are swept under the rug, if the kid belongs to a favored family. Xenophobia is rampant.The academic standards are sub par. There is no differentiated learning. They lower standards and hand out As and Bs - as my kids discovered when we moved to a more rigorous public school system. Leaving HRS was the best decision for my kids, who are now thriving.

Terrible. I hated all 8 years here. Teachers are blind to what goes on, rude and only act right around the principal. Teachers worry about the smallest things in the classroom that dont prepare for high school. They have no clue what lies in these catholic high school because theyve never attended these schools.

We love Holy Redeemer School! This is a wonderful school and parish where families are very active and engaged in the school. The school has an amazing principal, terrific pastors, and outstanding teachers and staff. The principal has been recognized as an outstanding principal in the archdiocese, and several teachers have received Golden Apple awards for excellence in teaching from the archdiocese recently. The entire team cares about the students, the school, and the community.

This is our sixth year at HRS, and our two children are doing very well and thriving. The teachers are exceptional -- they guide the students' growth academically, socially, and spiritually. They are creative, skilled, and passionate about their calling as teachers, and they have fostered our children's love of learning. We appreciate the well-rounded education our children are getting -- including music, art, library, Spanish, phys ed, time for recess, and religion. The religion program is excellent, and we appreciate how the entire school focuses on a new faith-based theme to learn about together each year. The classes take several field trips for enrichment experiences each year, too. The technology, textbooks, and classroom materials are terrific. HRS has classroom sets of iPads, a new computer lab, and smart boards in every classroom. The facilities are clean and well cared for by the staff.

Our children have very good friends from nice families, and students are together in the classroom, in aftercare, on the playing field in CYO (Catholic Youth Org) sports, and at extracurricular activities like science club, scouts, choir, band, and more. We are always impressed by how bright, friendly, respectful, and caring HRS students of all ages are. HRS is an excellent school and a real community.

Wow! I was just thinking about submitting a review and noticed the most recent one. Its good to know we aren't alone. I don't typically write reviews, but felt it was really important to share our experience. The amount of homework is insane in the upper grades, most of it doesn't seem to be very valuable. The goals to have more technology aren't successful because teachers aren't willing to simply update the simplest of homework assignments. Teachers seem to be available to hand out study reminders, but not assignment help. There seems to be urgency to raise the bar, but I don't think they are quite prepared for everyone to do what it takes to get there. We are so disappointed and are still trying to figure out if we can stick it out a couple more years. IF I could offer advice to the administration it would be to ASK parents for more feedback then maybe they could resolve some of these things.

We have been here a couple of years and really wanted to like it and make it work. But we feel let down and disappointed. The goal to get a "blue ribbon" seems to take more importance than the true well being of students. Bullying seems to he on the rise, especially in younger age children. And there is no call to action. Overworked teachers that assigned a massive amount of homework even to 2nd graders! This will be our last year, if we don't see massive improvements.

This is our 2nd school year at Holy Redeemer and we are very happy. I attended Catholic school myself and being part of Holy Redeemer has brought back alot of great memories. The teachers and staff are wonderful, I have not encountered any issues. My son is learning so much both academically and faithfully.

I sent our eldest here reluctantly and approached the school with misgivings. Our eldest is now in her third year at the school and we are preparing to send another child to Holy Redeemer. The school, its culture, and the community have been fantastic. We treasure the diversity of the student body and have been pleasantly surprised at how welcoming the institution has been of all of its members, regardless of background. I cannot ever recall being as excited about going to school as our daughter is every single day. She is encouraged by the staff and faculty to be her true self and makes little effort to contort herself to conform to other people's expectations. I have been particularly impressed by how well the leadership of the school openly and candidly addresses tough circumstances (including staff turnover) and, in result, have a greater appreciation of the challenges faced in making sure that everything continues to run well. There appears to be consistent commentary in the criticism of the school regarding "cliques." This has not been our experience at all; in fact, quite the opposite. While we generally try to maintain low profiles, almost in spite of ourselves, we have built good relationships with many parents at the school.

Holy Redeemer in College Park, MD is an outstanding school. Two years ago my wife and i took our children out of a Catholic School less than a mile from our home and enrolled them at Holy Redeemer. i am a public school teacher and was looking for a school that would meet both of my children's needs. i have one child who is very high academically and another who bright, but needs additional support. Holy Redeemer has been a perfect match. My one son, who is in sixth grade, is finally being challenged. His wealth of knowledge gained over the past two years has astounded me. They are truly preparing him for the challenges of high school and beyond. My younger son, in second grade, is also being challenged and learning a great deal. The best part of his learning has been his teacher's ability to scaffold the material to make it accessible while maintaining high expectations for him. He has improved leaps and bounds, especially in reading.
In addition to high academics, Holy Redeemer also has a wonderful, safe Christian environment where students learn about their faith daily. The staff is caring and the diverse student body and their families have been very welcoming from the start. i highly recommend Holy Redeemer.

I have been a parent for almost 20 years, and during that time have been a part of 4 different elementary/middle schools. Several factors considered, but mainly in terms of academics, I put Holy Redeemer at the top of that list for quality.

In fact, though the school is rooted in the Catholic faith, its strong academics draw families from a myriad of religious backgrounds. In addition to a dedicated principal and staff, volunteer parents ensure that even at a small school, students can experience an enriching educational environment. My daughter has participated in choir and Chefs Club (a big hit at the school!), and there are several other clubs and CYO sports. Teaching and modeling respect is a major theme at the school, and any disciplinary issues are minimal, which means the students are free to learn and thrive. Great school!

I went to HRS for 8 years. I am now attending the #1 public high school in Maryland. I also do crew on the side(#7 in country from last year's novice team). It was very difficult for me to adjust because the kids attending my high school all knew each other and knew what the teachers wanted first-hand. It took a while but I eventually adjust and figured out that many of the students never really experienced a school community as a second home. What they taught me that was the most advantageous was to work hard. My three years of working hard all middle school really paid off and gave me study habits I would have never had if I took the easy way. I know that to some parents that it isn't that good but what we were learning in class is like a repeat for me in freshmen year of high school. For example, we read to kill a mocking bird in 8th grade and took notes with that. In the 2nd semester of high school, we read that so I had the advantage of notes which helped me a lot. I also re-learned everything in my 9th honors biology class from 8th grade science. Back to the community, my teachers during the day and after school program really helped me get through one of the hardest periods of my life and protected from my worst fears. If they had not helped, I would be in a very unstable place now. Even though I moved and am going to a public high school that is an hour away from HRS, I still feel at home when I come in.

Holy Redeemer is one of the best choices that I have made for my children. The faculty and staff work tirelessly to ensure that each child, and by extension his/her family, feels welcome there. Class size is relatively small, and small group instruction is increasingly utilized in the lower grades to further individualized learning. The teachers are always seeking new and innovative ways to capture the kids' imagination and develop a love of learning. Volunteer opportunities abound, which allows me to stay connected and involved with my children's education. Teachers are approachable in person and via email usually responding by the end of the day. The education that my children have received thus far has been top-notch, but just as important is the way that the school reinforces the values that I teach at home. The school and teaching atmosphere nurtures my children's self-confidence, encourages them to make a place for themselves, promotes a love for knowledge, and inspires respect and kindness among peers. I encourage all parents to come see for yourselves what this school is all about; talk to the teachers, but more importantly, talk to the students that attend...it is written all over my children's faces, and how they can't wait to tell me what they did in school, or show me art work, math tests, and sing me new songs.

This school is what I call a fifty fifty type of school. Why? Because there is a balance of good and bad. The biggest problem is the bad, especially when you have a principal with no leadership skills and who does not look out for her students with integrity. A principal should not be a politician and talk out of both sides of her mouth nor cover up bad apples because the bad apple gives $$$ to the school. Also, teachers should not be afraid and cower to the principal, but work with her. The teachers that are still there are so burnt out that their teaching style has suffered greatly. The bullies are still there and this is not acceptable in such a small school with tender hearts and minds. They have teacher's helpers on staff who care more about their own personal problems than what the student is going through and do not do their job right. All of the good teachers have left and you have a very insecure revolving door of substandard academics in place...hum I wonder why?? Do not go here.

Our children have been students at Holy Redeemer School for 18 months. We could not be more pleased with the easy transition from their previous school. We are grateful for the care that the faculty and staff have taken to ensure that we quickly felt a part of the Holy Redeemer community. Each of our children have struggled slightly with various subjects and their teachers came to us with offers of ways to help. Both are now high-performing students -- we not only credit their hard work but also the support of the wonderful teachers they have. We are so thankful that we found Holy Redeemer and that our children are happy there.

I brought my family into the US from Mexico with green cards a month after the school year began in 2013. My seventh grader spoke little English. We were very worried about whether she would adapt and be able to catch up. We should not have worried! Holy Redeemer College Park has moved heaven and earth to make our daughter feel welcome and part of the student body. The teachers have done extra work to help her catch up, and in some courses she has progressed beyond her American classmates -- in spite of the fact that she is learning English as she goes. She is picking up English like a sponge. She is very content, and my wife and I are extremely impressed by the way the school has gone out of its way to help our girl settle in and adjust to her new home, school, country and language.

My son came to Holy Redeemer to attend 8th,he came from another state. His academics where continually going downhill in hi previous situation. He has graduated this year with a vast improvement in academics. He also has showed great improvement in his approach to school work and his desire to achieve academically. The principle and the entire staff provide a fantastic atmosphere in which to grow academically and socially. I cant express enough how much they have done to have help my son improve and grow. The families at the school are also a special part of the experience. After just one year, we have fit right with many of the families and have felt very welcome in becoming a part of the Holy Redeemer family. I truly believe the one year at this school has set the foundation that will very positively influence the rest of my sons life. All in all this school cares about their students and does a remarkable job preparing them to be positive young adults.

HRS truly deserves zero stars in my opinion. Why? My list would be too long...suffice to say that the school is run by the core of elite parents who have the bucks and not the administration puppets. There is an atmosphere of cliques that would blow your mind...I tell the mom's who always feel left out by teachers and boiling mad when their children get bullied and ignored--do not get mad -- get out! The good teachers are gone now.

We began our journey with HRS quite a few years ago when we placed our kids in K and 3rd grade. At first we were sold on safety (which is still great) and small class size (not true any longer). Within 3 years the school went through so many changes and many of the fantastic teachers left (exception K teacher). How sad that the newer hires are not up to par. We are stuck in the higher grades where the atmosphere is less than respectful and the kids are allowed to exhibit belligerence and dishonesty. Parents want peace of mind and all anyone gets from the leadership is lips moving and no action in terms of resolution. Our family saw that the one's catered to were 2nd and 3rd generation HR families who are coddled and given preference. We are stuck because we live around the corner, but if I did not live so close, I would not have my children attend HRS, also I would not recommend the school as I have learned you do not get what you pay for in this school's particular culture.

I think others should know that HRS in College Park has totally transformed into a merry-go-round of ineptitude and secrets. The once solid, vibrant and steady leadership left the school in 2008, and since then the great and caring teachers have jumped ship. What you have left are extremely poor teachers, a culture of fear and dishonesty amongst the teachers and principal--secrets kept from parents about behaviors from other students and teachers themselves which damage the child. The staff all around are ALWAYS leaving and there is no balance nor integrity left. The students are the one's suffering for the lack of not getting the best teaching possible for the money. I would say this school is the equivalent to any PGC public school complete with bad leadership, tacky "new" uniforms, bullies, and rampant stupidity beginning from the highest level. I must say that those glowing reviews must be from those employed there, not true parents.

Holy Redeemer School is the best decision we ever made. We have two kids at HRS and they are getting a great education in Prince George's! The principal is an amazing energetic leader. When we were concerned about 30 in a class, she made sure there was a dedicated instructional assistant and the resource teacher goes in for reading and math groups making the teacher student ratio 10 to 1 or less in some classes. The teachers are wonderful and dedicated!! Couldn't be happier!

The school is awesome. I like the teachers and how they are willing to freely give of their time, plan creative lessons and tailor the lessons to the students strengths. The families are a tight knit community and willing to help others. The students are very polite and respectful and are held to a high standard of accountability ( not so at other schools. ) Its a beautiful community.

Sending our children to Holy Redeemer Schools is one of the best decisions we have made as parents. The school is an extension of our family, and they stress the same values we teach at home. Socially, there is a great amount of camaraderie among the students (and the older children guide the younger ones), and their relationship with the staff is nurturing. Students are guided to become leaders. Extracurriculars are many (sports, Girl Scouts, choir, cooking club, chess club, student government). Academically, the curriculum is robust and challenging, yet the teachers are always available to offer extra help at lunch, recess or after school. Languages are taught beginning in pre-K, and there will be a state-of-the-art tech center opening next year. There are different levels of math and English for the older grades, and National Junior Honors Society has a strong presence. Parents are very involved in the school and all volunteer. Communication between parents and staff is encouraged. The graduates are accepted to competitive high schools, and many receive scholarships. As one of our children gets close to graduating, I feel she is well prepared for high school.

Holy Redeemer gets A+++ from this Mom of two boys. I chose Holy Redeemer after our local catholic school closed. While, I worried about my boys "fitting in" as one was starting 6th grade and the oldest, 8th, I found that not only were the academics top notch but, the teachers, staff and administration made them feel welcome and important. In fact, my boys both asked me why we hadn't been at Holy Redeemer all along?! They have since both been accepted to highly competitive High Schools (Eleanor Roosevelt Science & Tech and St. John's College High School) due to the excellent education they received as well as the heartfelt recommendations written by each of their teachers. H R is rich in wonderful traditions that remind me of my own experience in catholic school, MANY years ago. From PreK thru 8th grade, the teachers, administration and all staff truly seem to care about each child in the school and want them to succeed. Not only do I feel that my boys' benefited academically in their short time at HR, but, I believe that also as a result, they have most certainly grown in faith and have become leaders in their High Schools and beyond!

After two years at Holy redeemer, we feel that we have made a great choice for our child s K-8 education. The administration is reactive, insightful, and always a step ahead. The faculty is talented, motivated, and responsive to the needs of the individual child. The students are engaged and challenged and the parents are encouraged to be involved. One of the best decisions we made was to send our son to Holy Redeemer School in College Park MD. My son finished the first grade today and he had a wonderful year. The teachers and staff are wonderful. They want the best for your child and is willing to work with the parents to have your child reach their goal. I love the feel of family at this school. It is a wonderful environment for your child. My child improved so much this school year and that is thanks to the Holy Redeemer School Family. I know my son will continue to excel is the coming years at Holy Redeemer.

I have two children at Holy Redeemer. I find the quality of education to be fantastic. The teachers care about my kids, and communicate with me about anything I would need/like to know as a parent. In the car on the way home, I hear about their day at school, which always includes something interesting they learned. The teachers in the younger grades are nurturing, but also have high standards for their students. I marvel at the topics that are being studied and the work being produced in all subjects in all classrooms throughout the school. Additionally, in the middle school, my child has learned to be responsible in ways I couldn't have imagined. The teachers are in their classrooms at recess to offer help to any student who needs it. I know my kids will be prepared for high school academically and otherwise.

My son has been going to holy redeemer since Kindergarten. He will be in 5th grade next year. Holy redeemer school gives students the tool to excel in education, and expect them to do their best. They have tutors for kids who needed it, after care staffs help students who need support; they have different types of clubs. Catholic education is great. Holy redeemer has a Buddy system where the older kids guide the little ones. They teach them caring and responsibility. I really think teachers and facility staff have everything to do with that. Holy redeemer Principle, teachers and office staff are friendly, love their students and positive influence on our kids. My son loves the school. The school is not fancy but works for our kids. Holy Redeemer students are the most respectful children I have seen in my years in other public places. I recommend this school for any parent who would like their kids to excel and have a great future.

If I could give this school a minus star I would. Our child has ADHD and was in P-K. If your child has ANY type of Learning Disability (LD) DO NOT send them to Holy Redeemer School in College Park, MD they are not equipped to handle, teach or assist children w/LD they're solution to handling LD problems is to seek "guidance" from "the" resource teacher and mind you the parent will never meet with this teacher because she will ONLY work w/the teacher! This is their idea of teamwork? After getting our child excited about the Christmas festivities, b/c of a hitting/screaming incident in class we were told that he couldn't participate in any of the festivities, its P-K. for goodness sake! And not to bring him back until after the holiday season, and he would need a note from a doctor or a therapist, and they would need to speak w/both without the parents involvement - are they CRAZY. Our 4-yr old child was constantly placed in a chair out in the hallway by himself, screaming b/c he was afraid and upset or sent to the principals where he was made to sign a form about his behavior, HELLO he's four I contacted the Archdioceses immediately, and he was enrolled in another school. HORRIBLE!

We have been part of the Holy Redeemer community for two years and are very happy with the quality of the education being offered. The teachers, staff , and administration are very dedicated and go out of their way to make sure each child is viewed as an individual. For the cost, the school is a fantastic value. I encourage any parent looking for an alternative for their child to visit the school.

We love Holy Redeemer! We were looking for a school for our two children and knew on our first visit that this was the right environment for our their education. We have been very pleased with the teachers and staff and have made life-long friendships with other parents. Our children have thrived in their classes. For example, we have noticed a marked difference in one of our children's (Pre-K) attitude, behavior, and enthusiasm for learning as well as his sense of respect and care for others. This was no small feat! While we personally like that it is a Catholic school, we have met other parents who are there solely because of its educational standards and who have found the school and parent community to be very open-minded and welcoming. Of course it isn't perfect, but in looking at the big picture the negatives really are unimportant. The teachers and staff, whose level of education exceeds the standards, are special in that they all know and genuinely care for the students. We are not alone in having been inspired by the dedication shown by all - from the janitors, faculty, and lunch staff to the Principal, Pastor, and Vice-Principal. It really is a great school!

We have a child in pre-K who will not be returning next year. The teacher has seemed not to appreciate our child's qualities. We have had to ask her to find a few nice things to say about him, because she had so many negatives. We've gotten generic comments back that show she really does not know him very well. We quickly sensed that the school itself is not welcoming to parents, who are not permitted to walk with their children in the hallways, nor to spontaneously engage the teacher. If one tries to have a momentary chat at drop-off, you will be chased down in the hallway and escorted out. The extreme closed campus is not a post-Newtown thing, nor ADW policy -- it's for the convenience of the staff, who don't want parents milling about or disturbing them before class. Your experiences may differ, depending on how well your child can conform to a tightly-structured, rule-bound atmosphere. Our child has since been accepted to a highly-selective private school that values the very same qualities that got him in trouble at HRS: enthusiasm, energy, playfulness, love of games and jokes, gregariousness and wild imagination. P.S. HRS gives homework and report cards in pre-K.

Our experience with Holy Redeemer has not been good. It started out great in the beginning. And then unfortunately things started to go down hill quickly. You can tell teachers and the administration have favorites. Other children are not treated equal. The administration tries to brush their bully problem under the rug. They tend to make children feel little and beat down their self-esteem instead of trying to build them up. Many quality parents and children have left the school because the administration won't address the issue of unqualified teachers year after year that are brought in. There are a few good teachers left, but they are burnt out. Turnover is high.

As a former student and life long parishoner of Holy Redeemer there no question where my husband and I were going to send our daughters to school. I couldn't believe all the positive changes the school has made to better educate our kids. Adding a resource teacher was the one thing, having the children learn spanish and italian starting in PreK, teaching computer technology along with art, music and PE were all wonderful aspects to the curriculum. The faculty and staff have welcomed my children with open arms and treat them as one of their own. I am so happy that we made the right decision in sending our daughters to Holy Redeemer and knowing that they are receiving a great education.

Both our daughter and son went to Holy Redeemer - College Park. Our son will graduate this year and we will truly miss the school. We watched both of our children blossom here. Families who value an academically strong program with music, art, foreign language (even for Kindergardners!) technology, and PE should take a look at HRS. We watched those things being cut at our previous public school and were happy to see the value placed on these areas at HRS. Students are expected to do a lot of writing, which is now paying off for our daughter who is way ahead of her peers in high school on essay writing. One other thing I love about the school is that since it is small students are able to do a lot of high-quality field trips (Gettysburg, Philadelphia, Museum of Visionary Art, Holocaust Museum, etc.). If you visit there, be sure to ask to see the art studio!!!

Holy Redeemer School is FANTASTIC! My child is a student at Holy Redeemer School! I have been overwhelmed since Day One with how we were welcomed with open arms into the community. The one on one attention my child has received to keep him up to speed has been phenonmenal. When a personal matter occurred outside of the school, the *entire* administrative staff and the pastor were there immediately to make sure my child felt safe, and was happy and comfortable! It is so obvious how much the staff loves and cares for the students, as if they were there own. My child is performing above grade level in several subjects and truly looks forward to going to school every day. The tuition rate is below the DC area average. I couldn't ask for more in a school!

My child is in Pre-K at HRS and so far we have been very pleased and impressed with the school. Our child loves going to school everyday and engages in many fun and interesting extra curricular activities. Her religious education has greatly expanded. She is safe and happy at school, she is learning new things everyday. I have also found the other parents and students to be enthusiastic and kind, and have only had good experiences with the school thus far. At this point in time we are very happy with the school and would certainly recommend it.

When my friend told me that HRS in CP was rated highly I nearly fell off of my seat.!! There is good and bad in every school, but if the school leans far more to the negative there is a problem. Our family found that much was being swept under the rug in terms of problems at the school! Many parents would never dare say anything and we found it unusual that the parents know who the problem groups are, but they say and do nothing to try to help correct what is wrong. We were seduced by the low tuition and small class size, but later on disappointed by the teacher turn-over rate, disregard by the teachers of legitimate issues, unavailability of teachers and principal, the constant cycle of mistakes which leaves one to wonder why am I paying money to have my children in this type of so called "Christian" environment? So many agree that when the kids and their families do not practice good manners and respect--the schools culture suffers. I read the ratings of those who feel the school has helped their child, then that child is either part of a HR clique, or brand new to the school or unconscious to many facts in their child's everyday life. Pity.

THIS IS A GREAT SCHOOL!!! From the principal to the staff, the experience my child and family have had is beyond what words can describe. My son considered it his second home. My son graduated last year and the experience that we had with this school is beyond our expectations. My son was a transfer from another catholic school. When we transferred him to Holy Redeemer we had knots in our stomach because we didn't know what to expect--whether he would or wouldn't have bad performance again. We know our sons potentials; he was with the wrong crowd at the other school. He adjusted so well with the help of everybody. It is a caring place for our children. The teachers are caring but tough when it comes in the classrooms. My son thanks them for this because he received the best academic foundation - he is using this wealth of experience at his new school. And to this day while attending DeMatha as a freshman, he still participates actively in activities at Holy Redeemer.

IAM A GRANDPARENT RAISING A GRANDDAUGHTER WITH ADHD/ MOOD DISORDER. I TOOK HER OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOL AND I COULD NOT BE MORE HAPPY WITH HRS. YOU CAN NOT IMAGINE HOW SHE HAS CHANGED(BEHAVIOR TOO) SINCE ATTENDING HRS. I CAN NOT THANK THE TEACHERS ENOUGH FOR HELPING ME WITH HER, THE SCHOOL IS GREAT. MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN WENT ALL THRU PAROCHIAL SCHOOL,NOW DAYS IT IS A DIFFERANT WORLD OUT HERE, THESE KIDS ARE OUR FUTURE .

As a graduate of Holy Redeemer School, and a life long parishioner, I am proud to be a member of such an amazing community. The principals of this school have been wonderful, the teachers and staff passionate about their mission. I absolutely love the education I received and many of my former teachers are still there. The friends I made as a student remain my closest friends today. The connection between parish and school community is strong and Holy Redeemer immediately feels like home. If I am still in this area when I have school aged children, I will undoubtedly be sending them to Holy Redeemer.

We are looking forward to another great school year. Unfortnately, this will be our last school year here. Our child is entering 8th grade this school year and I feel that my child is better prepared for high school. It will be sad to say good bye to all the wonderfull teachers and administration this year. I know in my heart that Holy Redeemer School is the best kept secret in PG county and was the perfect place for us to call home the last six years.

HR is a little gem of a school. The community is vibrant and welcoming. Parents are involved. The teachers (by and large) are committed and caring. Class size is less than the local public schools and the academics are more than adequate. The school provides a safe and caring environment for students. My children love Holy Redeemer!
