I went to this school for 9 years and I liked it a lot. The teachers were kind and encouraged interest in the subjects that they were teaching, and there were lots of clubs and activities to join.

I have gone to this school for almost all of my life and it has been HELL. To start off, if you are ANY type of minority, you will be bullied and the principal will do nothing. The discrimination I've experienced at this school is UNREACHABLE. You can tell that the teachers don't care about the students. None of the students retain the information that is being taught to us. If ALL the students arent learning, its the teachers fault not the students. The school counselor does not help at all. Other students have told her about their struggling and she does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Also, the school claims to be "on top of bullying" which is a complete lie. There have been an uncountable amount of reports and they just ignore it.

My over-all experience with St. Mary of the Mills School having at least one child enrolled for the past 11 years. Every bump we encountered has been smoothed out or removed with a professional and sincere team of teachers and administration. They CARE. They are sincere stewards of a great foundational, accademic and faithfilled Catholic education.

Homework is relevant to supporting the class instruction, is NOT overwhelming so the children can participate in extracurricular activities, and homework is accessable on the teacher's websites so most questions about it can easily be looked up.

Posted: February 5, 2020

Teachers are truly interested in the student's success and learning regardless of their strengths and weaknesses. They also live their words as models of Christianity. The result is appropriate challenging expectations, support, compassion, and clear instruction.

Posted: February 5, 2020

I am amazed sometimes by the difference I see from our students vs. other schools / teams / and community groups in everything from sportsmanship (within the school as well as in competitions outside the school setting) to general manners, peer support, and compassion with action in the greater community. St. Mary's students as a whole are easy to be proud of in their representation of themselves, their school, community, and the Catholic faith.

The administration works hard to know and support staff, students, and parents! Period!

In as much as they can, St. Mary's supports children of all abilities. I have specific experience regarding extra needs with St. Mary's school. I have one child with pronounced ADHD and anxiety in the middles school now. He earns above-average grades because he is given the support (academic, but also emotional) that he desperately needs. I have such appreciation for his teachers who work to help him develop the skills of self awareness and self-advocacy. I have had two graduate from St. Mary's who struggled with dislexia - one severe. The accomodations and support they received were right on and both are successful honor's students in high school very much because of the focus on developing confidence through alternative learning and testing methods and good work ethics at St. Mary's. I do have 2 son's who I removed from St. Mary's though because their learning differences were too severe to effectively be supported by St. Mary's. One of these son's I hope to re-enroll in St. Mary's in the future as his needs for special instruction lessons with maturity.

I do not know of any problems of bullying at St. Mary of the Mills.

My family has been a part of the St. Mary’s School Community for 11 years! We are very sad that our time will end as my second daughter graduates from the 8th grade. But, we will never leave entirely as we continue to be parishioners and the school and parish are one big family. This strong sense of community is what makes SMS so special. The teachers are faith filled and invested in our children, as they encounter them not only in the classroom but school/parish activities, sporting events and mass. They nurtured this faith in my children early on and have fostered it throughout their years. With a strong leadership team, faith and academic excellence, SMS has set my girls up for success in life.

The homework reinforces what was taught in the classroom, not too much that they cannot also take part in all of the great after school activities that the school offers; music, drama and a host of diverse clubs.

Posted: January 28, 2020

Their faith is at their center in all that they say and do and they instill that in the children at an early age and it carries through. What more could you hope for in order to navigate today’s world.

Posted: January 28, 2020

Yes, integrity, compassion and respect are foundations of our catholic faith and are instilled in the students and are part of the pillars of our mission. Students are recognized when they exemplify these traits.

The principal and assistant principal make an amazing team. They support each other, the staff, have an open door policy and are very responsive.

Posted: January 28, 2020

With the resources available, paraprofessionals pull students who need additional resources and work with them independently and in groups. They also suggest resources outside of the school for those with additional needs.

Posted: January 28, 2020

As stated earlier, with the open door policy and quick response time, the administration does not allow situations to escalate. We are a are loving, caring community. Behavior that is outside this realm is not tolerated.

We were initially attracted to the diversity, religious based teaching and academics of St. Mary’s. We have been very pleased with our experiences thus far. My children have grown academically and socially. They received a strong foundation for the future academically. The administration and teachers are very responsive and approachable. I can honestly say that everyone cares for and truly knows what your individual child's’ needs are and will create an environment so that their needs are addressed. Middle school can be a difficult time for kids but socially, I can say that as a whole all classmates are supportive and concerned for one another’s welfare.
Parental involvement is a must for successful navigation in any school. The Home and School association allows you to get involved and get to know other parents, staff members and administration. Again setting an example for your kids about the power of involvement is priceless.

Posted: August 5, 2019

St. Mary’s teachers take an active role in your child’s learning experience. If they see a “change” in performance, they are immediately involved in addressing the issues.

Posted: August 5, 2019

Our experience has been that teachers are willing participants in your child’s successes.

Posted: August 5, 2019

Character is a learned behavior... gained from religious teachings, role models and family guidance. Together you help shape character, compassion and mutual respect.

Mrs. Jordan, our principal, is amazing! She is an effective administrator to staff, a great leader for parents, and a great communicator to the students. Her style is firm but equal. Effective training for her staff and teachers is essential to achieving high academic standards.

Posted: August 5, 2019

I don’t have 1st hand experience with this topic however I know that the school recognizes different capabilities of all students and attempts to meet their needs either with in school or referred sources.

Posted: August 5, 2019

Bullying is a behavior that is not tolerated. However, should the need arise for intervention, it is swiftly addressed.

We are so lucky to have the best teachers who not only teach my kids, but they love them and care of them as their own. Our teachers have a long history of teaching experience! My daughter call her teacher an angel because she is smart and very kind.

Posted: August 5, 2019

My kids are little but the school and staff environment holds all the kids responsible for their actions, be respectful to one another while keeping their faith strong.

Posted: August 5, 2019

St Mary's offers a small community feel. It is a small village of families who are there to one another. The parents are involved and that is what ultimately keep us in a close knit.

I am a former St. Mary's parent who had at least one child at the school for a span of 13 years. When we were looking for a school for our oldest child, we wanted a school that would: give him the best education, provide a foundation in faith, reinforce the morals and values we were teaching at home, and keep him safe. We found all of that at St. Mary's. From the time our oldest child walked into St. Mary's as a kindergartener to the time our youngest graduated, St. Mary's never faltered on any of the four requirements we had for a school for our children. We always felt that St. Mary's gave our children its all, 100%. Our children received an excellent education at St. Mary's. Both were/are consistent honor roll students in high school, which is a testament to the education they received at St. Mary's. The school has dedicated, effective teachers and the current principal/vice principal team is outstanding. If I had it to do all over again, I would still choose St. Mary's.

I love St. Mary of the Mills School. As a former parent, I can attest to the achool’s strong commitment to teaching the whole child, spirit, mind and body. I am currently a volunteer so I have a unique perspective on how the school is run. The principal and vice principal are a dynamic team that are accomplishing great things. It is clearly evident that the teachers care about their students and go above and beyond to help all children reach their potential. I highly recommend St. Mary of the Mills School.

We have had a great experience with this school. We love the sense of community, all the new friends we have made, the teachers are outstanding and the administration is very good. Love all the clubs- MESA, the mandarin club, band, drama, all the extra curricular activities. We love that the school is small enough for all of us to know almost everyone by name. Very happy here!

St. Mary's offers a great atmosphere and learning environment for all students. My son has been at St. Mary's for the past two years and he and I both love it there. It is great to see the care that the teachers and faculty have for the students. All students receive attention in regards to individual learning needs. The new leadership has definitely had a positive influence on the teachers. Comments below suggest a lack of leadership and ability to retain great teachers. I believe that is no longer a concern. I would recommend St. Mary's to anyone looking for a school that can provide a great Catholic education.

St. Mary's school is a great school for our kids. They have new leadership that has shown to be effective, dedicated, responsive, heartfelt, and transparent. This is a significant turnaround compared to just a few years ago. The teachers and staff at St. Mary's are highly dedicated and truly care for these children.

I highly recommend this school to any parents who are looking for a good quality Catholic education for their children.

I have not heard of any bullying going on but the principal is big on behavior etc.

The new administration has been great so far

Posted: March 2, 2017

Being a catholic school it definitely develops all these valuable skills and character traits.

Posted: March 2, 2017

The teachers are great, very smart and kind. They work hard to make learning fun.

Posted: March 2, 2017

Just right amount of homework that is challenging and rewarding.

We have been in St. Mary's for a few years now and we are very happy here. The new administration is working hard in all aspects of the school to make it even better, the teachers are fantastic and the values this school instills is great. The communication with the parents is top notch and we always know what's happening in school. I also love the response time for any questions or concerns. My child loves going to school and thrives there and that's all I can ask for. Highly recommend.

Fall of 2016 we got our new Principal Mrs Alisha Jordan and Vice Principal Mrs Tiffany James who both provide fantastic leadership for our St Mary's of the Mills School. Their enthusiasm is infectious. The teachers have always been fantastic. I have a daughter that graduated last year and is now at Mount De Sales, a son graduating this year and going to Dematha and a daughter now in the fifth grade. I would not have changed a thing. The older reviews site a lack of leadership, but that all changed with Mrs Jordan and Mrs James. the teachers have always been great. It has never been better than atmosphere from the parent side than it is right now.

St. Mary's of the Mills is an extraordinary school! Throughout my nine years at the school (K-8) I was constantly growing to be more competent and stronger spiritually. Without St. Mary's I would not be the man I am today!

To touch on the 5 of 6 Golden Apple winners...Yes, they won 5 years straight, last year missing out BUT only TWO, of the five still work at the school! It is one thing to have good teachers but that ability to KEEP good teachers is rapidly decreasing! :-( Each will tell you, LEADERSHIP was the ultimate deciding factor! :-(

Highly disappointed and keeps getting worse. This school use to be so wonderful with great staff and teachers. Unfortunately the principle has angered and chased away so many wonderful teachers, staff and students. Catholic values are NOT being met under his leadership and he cares more about his own image and does not put the kids first at all! I pray that this school can return to the great school it once was but right now it is going in the WRONG direction!!!

Posted: June 6, 2014

The middle school teachers are very supportive. The school has poor leadership; the principal does not show any interest in his teachers nor does he take the time to meet with parents. We are sadden to see so many great teachers leave this school because of the leadership.

Posted: May 7, 2014

I would not recommend this school, especially if you are not Catholic. I agree with another parent in that the curriculum is very weak, it does not prepare kids for the technologically advanced society in which we live today. My daughters have attended the school for 2 years and I have made a grave mistake enrolling them. They were in a Mandarin-immersion program in a school that utilized Smart boards and computers as a part of their curriculum. St. Mary's staff is still thinking that they can teach students they way they were taught 20 years ago.

My daughter loves this school. She is finishing her second year there and already told me she wants to stay there until 8th grade. She says she loves her teachers and the staff. All her teachers have been very nice, supportive and open to communication. The only true thing I don't care for is the lunch options.
