I have two children that attend The Calverton School.I wish I had teachers that poured into me like these teachers pour into my children.My kids love their school and are thriving academically.

Where to start - communication from teachers is almost nonexistent. There are two teachers who go out of their way to be kind. The rest seem fed up and snappish, which I understand because the real problem is the students and the culture of this school. We were sold on a so-called "culture of kindness," but my child was terribly bullied soon after enrolling by students who befriended her and then ganged up on her and told her to kill herself. When we sent screenshots of the messages to the school, administration had a "restorative justice" session (these people are not certified in this type of mediation) that was never discussed with us parents. My child said the head of the middle school talked about bullying, then said, "Anyone who wants to apologize can apologize." Since the other students didn't say anything, my child went ahead and said she was sorry, just to fill the awkward silence. Despite repeated requests for information, we were not told anything about how the bullying incident was handled. Administration acknowledged that it happened, but their final response to me was, "These things happen, and you need to work to make [your child] more resilient." We withdrew our child a mere four months after she started school there, and were refunded something like $4k out of $24k. So, essentially, we paid $20k for our child to be bullied and have her life completely upended. And now we pay several hundred dollars a week for therapy and crisis management. Do not send your child here if he/she/they are different, especially if they are on the spectrum. I'm so very sorry I believed the sales pitch. My child will be paying for that for a long time.

We love The Calverton School. We have 2 students (4th and pre-K4) students who attend, and LOVE IT. The education is top notch! The teachers and staff really make your kids feel welcome and loved. We are going into our 5th year, and we are thankful every day we chose this school for our children. Highly recommend The Calverton School to anyone.

I want to give a shout out to The Calverton School! They prepared as soon as soon as word of the virus hit the news. Our last day in the classroom was a Friday and we started distance learning the very next Monday. They never missed a beat and continued to provide the quality education that they are known for! They have been there for their students both academically and for emotional support. If you are feeling uneasy about the quality of education that your children are getting during these uncertain times, I highly recommend that you look into The Calverton School. My only regret is that we didnt join them sooner!

Honor is the rule at Calverton. These kids enter the building with a handshake from their school head every single day. Lockers arent locked because these students have trust in each other. 8th graders give speeches about honor and their personal beliefs. There are countless more ways that these values are instilled and modeled on a daily basis.

My child entered Calverton in 6th grade, having transferred from Beach Elementary. His reading level tested below average for 5th grade upon entering, and by the end of 6th grade he tested above a 9th grade reading average. It is clear to me that the personal attention he received at Calverton made all the difference. My child is absolutely thriving in the environment Calverton provides.

In recent years, there has been less homework which has been beneficial to the kids as they have more outside interests which also require quite a bit of time.

The teachers are caring, compassionate, and for the most part hard working. As at ever school, there are A+ teachers and C- teachers-just like the students they teach.

My 2 sons are "Lifers"; they are now in 9th and 10th grade so I have seen it all. I am 100% behind Calverton and wish more people took advantage of the amazing opportunities offered.

Amazing. I am not even sure where to begin. This is how a school should be. The environment is about nurturing, caring, fostering personal responsibility, making good decisions, and being inclusive. My oldest has difficulty reading. He was identified at entry in kindergarten as potentially having difficulty reading and was immediately started in the extra-reading section. Now in second grade, he has made substantial gains but still struggling. We spoke with a tutor and she said his reading deficit isn't usually identified until fourth grade or beyond. The school identified him in kindergarten!

My second boy entered 3K two years ago basically being unable to speak due to a severe speech delay. We were specifically seeking out a small class for him. The third day of school he was a completely different child. Mrs. Briscoe saved his life. He is now in the 4K program and needs some accommodations for hearing difficulties and he needs lots of movement. There was no long paperwork exercise, no multiple discussions for months on end, no fighting. We simply had a meeting with his teachers (Mrs. Gamble, Mrs. Feeley) and the head of the lower school (Mrs. Merryman). They had already read his all his doctor evaluations and already had a plan of action. Even to the smallest detail of researching snacks to ensure he is getting enough protein in a day.

We love it there. Our kids love it there.

Our children have been attending the Calverton School for 3 years. We have been extremely happy with the academic challenges and love the athletics programs. The teachers are attentive and the administration has been responsive when we have had any concerns arise. The coach for the girl's soccer team is also my son's lacrosse coach. He has gone above and beyond any expectations we had and has been very inspirational to our children. He is also faculty in residence , which has added to his dedication to the children at Calverton. We love this school. We brought the children in from public middle and high school and have never looked back. It has been a great experience.

My son and daughter have been attending the Calverton School for over 7 years. In addition to providing excellent academics and athletics, Calverton has been able to instill in them the confidence they need to succeed in a ever competitive world. Their Philosophy of Honor and Calverton Handshake are facets to their commitment to the full well rounded education that other schools lack. The Upper School International Baccalaureate (IB) Program has enabled my kids to think outside the box and develop a thorough understand of what it is to learn. I cannot say enough of what Calverton has provided for my family. As many schools Calverton has had its share of ups and downs. There was many changes in administration over the last few years. However, now each division is led by very capable, compassionate heads. The new Head of School has done an amazing job to help keep Calverton on its course to be the premiere college preparatory school in Southern Maryland.

Excellent school. My kid has gone through the elementary school and middle school. The teachers are fantastic. The classes are small - 14 students per class. There is a lot of individual attention. STEM Fair has good opportunities for extra science and math exposure. Awesome faculty. This school emphasizes learning study skills, has a uniform and is really special place. Diverse student body. My kids loves going to this school.

I am like you, I want to provide my child with the best possible education so he or she can thrive and be all he or she can be in life. The elementary years were wonderful.....a dream come true really. The middle school years were a train wreck to say the least. The school lost all of their heads in the 2011 school year ( going from memory) and since then there has been a lot of discontent with the teachers, back stabbing, parents revolting by creating a website to complain, and a lot of unnecessary drama. In addition, if your child has any learning issues they do not have anything in place to aid them. They talk a good game. Some of the teachers are quite mean and unkind as well. Sadly there are not a whole lot of choices in Southern Maryland for a good private education and if your child is not super confident, strong willed, and smart, this is school is probably not a good fit. Lastly, one of Calverton's core values is integrity and they do not practice what they preach. Is this were you want your precious child. You decide.

This school is amazing! We moved from the county public schools and it's the best decision we made. The teachers have done an incredible job with helping our children meet their standards. They take the time to get to know your children and help you address any concerns. It's such a safe environment due to the strict bully policy here, which we love! Our children talk about the science experiments and different languages they learn. Having my children sing Spanish songs and know what it means is incredible. The Singapore math is very challenging but I feel it's the best way to prepare our children for being college ready. I am also impressed by the critical thinking papers and also an emphasis on cursive writing. I think the biggest thing we love most of all is THE SMALL CLASS SIZES!!!! We feel that our children are able to receive one on one and small group attention that is critical in these primary years. Our children are so happy here. They can't wait for the weekend to be over so they can go back to school...isn't that amazing!

This a great school with great faculty. The administration is new but have added the IB Progamme and IPad 1:1 program in the last year. They are requiring more communication of their teachers to parents and are being creative in their fundraising to lessen the burden on families. Tell me other private schools that have had no tuition increases in the last year. None. Great school. Great Team.

We, too, have been at the Calverton School for several years and I am *VERY* pleased with the level of education our child has received. Could I have awarded 5-stars to the school just two years ago? No. The Lower School Head and Head of School have made strides and I look forward to what the future holds under their leadership. When your child is disappointed there's no school on Saturday [seriously] and literally skips to class in the morning, you know you've found someplace special. An iPad for every student, genuine care and concern from faculty, staff and parents, unique student field trips to places like a tour of Air Force Two on Andrews Air Force Base--it is the intangibles and the areas that test scores alone can't measure that make this school truly great. Is it an investment? Yes. But it's much more than our monetary investment--the teachers themselves are pouring their very selves into each child and when I see the Lower School kids hug teachers they had 3 or 4 years ago, you know that investment has been nurtured and, indeed, treasured.

My child has been at the school for several years now and I am having mixed reviews. They have brought in a new Head of School and he seems to be off to a good start. However there seems to be underlying problems that have continued to go unaddressed. Hoping they review and find a solution to the problems. When you focus too much on money and not enough on academics, you will fail as an educational institution.

This is an excellent school with the best faculty possible. The new principal has brought back energy and drive into the school. There are several facility improvements about to begin as well (new additional gym, new turf field, etc.). I went there and all 3 of my kids currently attend.

This is school is incredible. We receive timely communication, they love our children, and they are excelling in all areas. The leadership team is great at listening and acting quickly on anything that needs to be done. I cannot say enough and how happy we are.

This school has great new leadership that is bringing the school back to its core values of community, respect and responsibility. I have not been more excited in my 10 years as a parent at the school. Bravo to the board on selecting such a personable, forward thinking new head of school.

This school has poor leadership and do not care about children as much as they care about finances. Our children attended this school for a very short time and the Principal of the Lower School was a failure in dealing with a simple bullying situation. The teachers were overwhelmed with the students too. The classroom size is 22-24 not 14 students as advertized. Save your time and hard earned money by going to a school with quality teachers and administration

We've been at The Calverton School since 2006. The vision for the school is strong with a well developed plan for students to succeed in a competitive world. Although there is a transition of headmasters, the transition has been smooth with the new and current working together over the past 6 months. We are looking forward to our child graduating from this school. Within a week of joining classes at Calverton, our child found students friendly, never clicky and teachers always reaching out to help with succeed on all levels. Great atmosphere, great place to learn.

What a great day in the Lower School-Pumpkin Math and a Kenyan Feast. Combining fun w/ academics makes the Lower School at Calverton worth every penny! Too many schools emphasize homework, more homework and, a little more homework. Young minds can only process so much. Kudos for to the LS teachers @ TCS for getting this! Keep up the great work!

While my children have been going here for some time, the board seems to be putting new leadership into place for the next year to address the concerns of the community. I love the school and they love my children. They receive a good education and for that I am thankful. I beleive this school has yet to see its best years that are soon to come.
