New Hope Academy provides a safe space for children/youth to learn and grow. It is a small tight community which has pros and cons. My daughter has made friends and developed deep relationships that will probably last her entire life. But there is no football team with big homecomings and other social activities that she would have enjoyed.

This is my son's second year at New Hope Academy (high school section), and his experience has been great. The teachers are awesome and not only truly care about the scholars' education but also about them as a whole. The NHA is a small but mighty bunch! I pray for their growth so that they can reach more with their love and support. I love the Saxon math curriculum, which allows students to grow at their own pace and not just at their grade level. The smaller classes enable him to do well in all of his subjects. He's enjoying his Korean and art classes as well.

Our son began attending New Hope Academy as a freshman, and now, as a junior, we can confidently say that choosing this school was one of the best decisions weve made for his education and development. Over the past few years, he has truly thrivedboth academically and socially.

Exceptional school. Our second grader had fallen behind in reading coming from another state, but New Hope dedicated so much specialized attention that she has caught up and improved! The school also has our kindergartener reading full books!

We have been so pleased with our experience at New Hope Academy since enrolling our son in 2023. After a lengthy search for a private school that offered both a diverse culture and a strong foreign language curriculum, we found that New Hope Academy was the perfect fit for our family. From day one, our son has thrived in an environment that feels welcoming and inclusive, making it a place he truly loves to attend.

New Hope Academy
A welcoming Multicultural International Preparatory School.

Two months into my daughters high school education at a High School with a large student population, her mother passed away. While she was navigating her grief period, the High School was unable to meet her educational and emotional needs, because there was no Counselor onboard at the school at that time.
I needed to find a High School with a smaller student population that cares for its students population which would be able to meet her educational, developmental and emotional needs. I was fortunate to find New Hope Academy with an empathetic Principal, teachers and administrative personnel.
As a healthcare professional and a professor at a local University, I can attest to New Hope Academys strong academic curriculum in the Natural and Social Sciences with a strong emphasis on moral, spiritual development and social justice. The teachers and administrative staff care genuinely about the students development and demonstrate their roles as the traditional Loco Parentis.
My daughter is progressing well educationally and emotionally in a welcoming environment at New Hope Academy. She is oncourse to graduate next year and on her way to College.
New Hope Academy is an excellent school that develops your children educationally, emotionally and spiritually, and prepares them for College and Vocational careers to become productive citizens in their communities. I am appreciative of the caring Principal, the teachers and the administrative support staff.

NHA has some of the most diligent, dedicated and self sacrificing teachers I have met and I have known a lot of teachers from my personal work in education. Some of the classroom management strategies can seem excessive times or lacking in other cases, but across the board, the academic training is undeniably effective.

Students are held accountable for their actions. Parents, however, need to work on the ways their children interact with other students in social settings. As very concerned parents, we make sure our child is aware and actively uses strategies that divert bullying situations and other negative social interactions. Our child's teacher also understands that we do not place an emphasis on friends in school, as attaining knowledge is the main objective. Unfortunately, some of the best and most diverse parents are deterred by tuition fees.

I highly recommend NHA. My child has attended NHA for 3 years and we love the multicultural population, caring atmosphere and rigorous curriculum in the primary grades. Teachers are extremely thorough with tracking and communicating student academic achievement; parents, students, teachers and administrators work collectively to raise funds for explorative field trips, memorable school events and school activities and; the field trips and learning experiences my child has participated in as a NHA student are phenomenal! The exposure from field trips outside of the school and diversity within the student population elevates NHA far beyond any local Prince George's County Public School, speaking from firsthand knowledge. For this reason, tuition is worth the financial sacrifice. As a recipient of a Masters of Education from UCLA, I am not a novice to the value of education and the global competition our children must be well equipped to participate in later in life. NHA teachers also understand that and work diligently to prepare our youth on a daily basis. My child leaves school happy to report his daily progress, eager to tell me about his academic achievements as well as those of his peers. If we happen to miss a school family event, my child is disappointed. There is a steady and constant rapport between the staff about my child's social progress in addition to his academic growth, which I appreciate. Did I mention the teachers were awesome? NHA is truly a diamond in the rough and my only wish is that they had more funds to enhance their unbeatable qualities (i.e., foreign language, arts, sports, academics, critical thinking, diverse learning experiences). I am grateful that the school stakeholders work together to raise and use funds as adequately as possible to upgrade the facility and maintain the teaching staff. The school community's unwavering commitment to learning is one of the best I've seen in the area. I attended New Hope for 2 years (7th and 8th grade) before making it clear to my parents that I wanted to go elsewhere for high school, even though 8th grade was considered part of the upper school here. My parents had told me they thought New Hope would be very good for me, a graduate of a Montessori school I had attended since Pre-K years. Well, I soon discovered it wasn't what we had hoped it would be. In 7th grade I struggled to make friends within my small class, causing me to become shy and not very outgoing. I made one real friend that year that has stuck with me until now, even though we both go to different high schools. 8th grade year wasn't any better, if anything it was even worse. Many of my classmates were able to make friends with the upperclassmen, who let me say, could be very rowdy and foul. I thought I was making friends, only to discover I wasn't, students were 'using' me because they felt bad I was basically alone. I got picked on, gossiped about, and for a short period of time right before the end of the year, I realized I had formed anxiety and slight depression. I pushed through, trying to keep up with the average academic skills I was being taught, nothing too hard for me since I had learned half of the 8th grade curriculum in 5th grade.Most of the teachers were very kind and understanding, there was just one that was new, coming from teaching at a bad public school, that was very rude and didn't care at times. Honestly, my friend and I would joke around about how they need to knock the building down and rebuild it. There is no air conditioning, except in a few classrooms and the office, which makes it very hard to focus at the beginning and end of the year, when it starts getting hot. The principal and head of the dance program are rather desperate for money, the dance teacher begs you to join her dance/drama program and the principal focuses more on keeping teachers and students from leaving the school than she does on providing a better facility/curriculum. Some of the teachers didn't even notice I was having a downward spiral emotionally, and didn't notice I was practically being bullied. The school looks good on the website, but don't fall for it. I am now at a larger Christian high school where I am succeeding academically and socially, only in the first few weeks of school, which I am very grateful for.

Run, run, run!!!!!! NHA looks good from the outside but, once you get in you find out different. I wanted to like this school so bad. However,the upper school had very little to offer the upper school students.
The Good
1) Small class sizes
2) Bullying is not allowed
3) They pray before meetings

The Bad
1) Not enough activities for upper school
2) Your tuition includes fees for field trips or outside activities and my child didn't go on 2 trips a year.
3) The school charges for aftercare for high school students. I've never seen high school (15 - 18 y/o students in after care or before care). Just another way to make money
4) There is no air conditioning in the high school portion of the school. Most people are concerned about this until the spring and summer months. I know of about five parents who would come and pick up their children at noon because the school was excessively hot. When the concerned parents picked up their children, a note went around to the teachers, telling them to not allow assignments missed because they went home early to be turned in and give them zeros. The principal's office, administration office, lower schools and pre-schools all had air conditioning but, the high school didn't.
5) Last year alone about 7 upper school students transferred to other schools. They year before that the # was about the same.
6) The school was unorganized.

I could go on and on about the high school portion of NHA but, I think you should get the drift. Stay away!!!

I am a staff member and parent of this school. New Hope has a family atmosphere and small class sizes that foster genuine relationships teacher to teacher, teacher to student, and teacher to parent. Administration is responsive and caring, staff is more than a body in a position - the relationships are personal an authentic. Parents are more than willing to work with the teachers to do what's best for students. Students are respectful and open to new experiences; many of them seem grateful for a smaller and safer environment in which to learn. The interfaith, international (high school) environment creates an accepting atmosphere that creates globally aware and astute students. This school is a gem and if parents want a place where their child is exposed to a variety of cultures, ideas, and experiences from equally interesting staff then this is the place. It is unfortunate that people with isolated experiences have axes to grind and find it necessary too denigrate the school. These are the people who will be toxic to any environment. I am happy that the principal and board stand by policies and won't succumb to strong arming tactics or threats. A great place!

My child is entering her third year at New Hope Academy. She likes the small atmosphere and the personal attention that teachers give her. I went from having a child who hated school to a child who looks forward to her school day. I am impressed with the level of learning and the opportunities the children have. From the foreign language program and the in-depth music program to the dance program, I am seeing opportunities that were not available in her last school. I am very happy with our experience.

My daughter has attended this school since Pre-K. She is now in first grade. She is reading books like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The kids have a weekly spelling test, math test, reading test as well as science and/or history test. She loves her school and each teacher she has had. She is part of the school's Performing Dance Center and Dance Company. She is also participating in the school play. The kids are confident and well behaved. The school does focus on character as a result; both the young children and the teenagers are pleasant to be around. As an adult walking into the school, the kids hold doors for you and speak to you. High School kids speak to my 6 year old daughter like she is a person. It is a rewarding community to be part of.

School has very low educational standards. Their main focus is character education which they fall short on many levels. Academic programs are mainly based on home school methodologies. They hire friends of the principal, whom started the school. Most of the High School graduates go to community college before entering state universities.

New Hope Academy is a great school Academically and Socially. We are very pleased with the Prinicipal, Teachers and Administration there. It is very apparrent that they have the best interest of our children at heart. We have been a part of the NHA Family for five years and we are very pleased with our childs academic progress. Our child is consistently challenged, they love school and everything about NHA. NHA fosters a great learning environment with lessons and curriculums that prepare our children to advance forward through upper grades and on to great Colleges. NHA frequently host Open Houses. If you are seeking a great school, please take the time to attend one. The small classroom environment fosters close interaction among the students and teacher. NHA exudes a warm and positive environment in all that they do. And trust me, they do alot Academically, Socially, and Physically along with having a great Arts & Dance Program. We are very pleased with the communication by the teachers as well as the Administration. They issue an FYI weekly keeping parents well informed. The PTA is great and very involved and engaged with the school and our children as well.

Our elementary aged children have been enrolled in NHA for 3 years. We have been extraordinarily pleased with their teachers (very approachable, warm, and engaging) and the curriculum (seems to be on par with their peers at public/other private schools - and are reflected in their standardized test scores.) It is a smaller school, so there is a lot of parents/teacher/admin interaction and involvement., which is wonderful as a parent who wants to be involved in my child's education and know what is going on. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better 3y for our kids - and we look forward to them continue thriving at NHA for years to come.

My child has been with NHA for six years. I have pulled him out and placed him in what was supposed to be a good public school, just to turn around an bring him back to NHA. My child was able to perform academically in the school, but the environment he was exposed to was the problem. I realized that as a parent, I could supplement academics, but could not supplement emotional growth. NHA pushes your child do do THEIR personal best academically while providing character building. The teachers and staff all make it their duty to support every child whether or not it is their personal student. From my experience, the adminstration gives honest advice without worrying if they will "lose the student to another school." This aspect lets me know that their true interest is my child's development, not the school's budget. Of course I would love to see more from the school, for example an updated appearance and high tech classrooms, but sometimes, brand new is not always best. NHA's traditonal charm, family environment and diverse community has worked for years. The students I know that have graduated have all moved on to being successful adults.

I am a teacher and parent at NHA. I am more than satisfied on both counts. New Hope Academy is not perfect-- no school is! It is a great place to work. It's a place that feels like home to me and my children. They're getting a good education AND are part of a wonderful community. I have recommended NHA to so many people, and so far, no one has been unsatisfied! Also, there is no high teacher turnover. I don't know why a previous poster has that idea.

I have been associated with New Hope Academy for 10 years as a teacher. I'm not sure I understand the review that addresses the issue of high teacher turnover. Many that I work with have been here more years than I have. The main reason a teacher might leave is due to a spouse's job change or they decide to stay home with their children. In addition, all classroom teachers are required to have at least a bachelor's degree. I would suggest that anyone considering our school check out our teacher profile on the school's website. I love it here! Because we do have smaller classrooms, we are able to give our students extra attention. We also do a lot of critical thinking activities; not just rote memory. Please come check us out! You will not be disappointed.

Our daughter, now in 4th grade, has attended NHA since Pre-K. She is proud of her school and loves going there. My wife and I love the fact that our daughter is in a small class (8 children); that religious values are affirmed and character education is regarded as important; that the relationships between students and teachers are very close; that she gets to interact with international students; and that there is a sense of security and community at the school.

As a New Hope parent, I am sorry that you had such a bad experience at our school. We have not found the administration to be anything but supportive (even when one of our kids had some problems!). I think that the difference with this school more than any other school I have worked at is that children don't fall through the cracks. There are regular student guidance team meetings including parents, staff and sometimes older students, which anyone can request where we all brainstorm together exactly how a child can be helped and motivated. We all work together for the sake of the child. This approach works. I am very impressed with the level of teacher committtment. Before this I worked at diplomatic schools overseas and New Hope is one of the best.

My daughter has attended New Hope Academy since Kindergarten and she is now in the third grade. My husband and I love this school and the great academic benefits, unity and diversity that it offers. NHA continues to be a great learning and social environment for her. She continues to be challenged and has shown great improvement academically and socially over the years. The staff is great and it is very evident and apparent that they love our children and have their best interest at heart. It is a great school and I continue to refer it every chance that I can.

(continued) In addition, my kids participate in soccer, T-ball, basketball, tae qwon do, ballet, hip hop, tap, and drama. All these activities take place during aftercare and doesn't require me to do any running around. I pick the kids up at 6 pm and all that stuff is already done.

NHA has helped my son improve academically since graduating from Montessori school (3rd grade). His SAT test scores are great but we weren't able to compare his scores on a national level. I believe the selection of the test was made by NHA administration but parents weren't able to view scores from a national standpoint. Something to ponder. The building doesn't have air-conditioning in certain sections which makes it difficult for my son because of seasonal allergies. Through past experiences, I've had to reference NHA's handbook to make sure guidelines were followed. When mistakes are made, sometimes administration won't readily account for their error. A good practice is for both parent and administratioin to engage in ongoing communication for the sake of the child. Often times, the parent has to initiate the first step. In some cases, more collaborative effort should be made on behalf of the school. Improvement can be made in several areas to help support the child's education and their future.

I have two boys that have gone to this school since kindergarten. They are now in the 4th and 6th grades. The academic and moral foundation that the school has given them is excellent. Both boys have been accepted to the Johns Hopkins center for talented youth and they both participate in the schools after-school Robotics program. They've worked on researching and developing their own ideas to solve real issues facing today's engineers. They've developed solutions including cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay, designing a concept car that included autopilot and ran on bio-fuels, designing a cardiac patch made of polystyrene to grow with the heart. All of which they had to present in competition. Currently they're working with a school in Mexico on researching whether the idea of a polystyrene cardiac patch is actually possible. An exercise I feel is preparing them for working with people all over the world. The school also has an after-school ACE team (a group that promotes climate education). A couple of years ago some of our students (elementary, middle and high school) went to an engineering conference in Baltimore and won all of the laptops they were giving away!!

New Hope Academy. I have three children that have gone through the Pre School program. Wonderful program, true love and care for each child. Lots of hands on projects. My kids went into Kindergarten reading already. One of my children graduated from their middle school program with a very strong academy foundation. He tested and got into the Roosevelt Science and Tech program with an almost perfect score. My other two children continue at New Hope in the elementary and the middle school. The Saxon math program that the school uses is excellent. My children love the school and I am relaxed as a parent because not only is excellent academically but the school offers a positive environment that encourages the children to make the right choices. This is a very important point for me because in most schools, the goodness of the children is in constant struggle with the negativity of the environment. The positive and family environment of the school creates rounded and beautiful human beings.

PreK program is excellent. Family oriented school and chilren have a sense of security there. Principal is open to suggestions but how much is really considered is questionable. Also, the school is so busy struggling with enrollment and keeping teachers that they can't focus on whats important...and that is working on a stronger academic program. Something as simple as a music teacher has changed every year in the past 3 years. There are no after school progams/clubs that encourage children to step outside the box to be creative or individual. The school doesn't focus at all on encouraging an analytical approach to learning, rather it simply forces students to memorize and regurgitate facts. In a society where it is crucial that our children become critical thinkers, very capable writers, and articulate communicators the middle and upper school doesn't prepare students for this task. Love the fact that it has incorporated an International program but even that is lacking and needs some improvement. For a 20 year school it still has some growing pains. It's an OK school if your just looking to "pay" for an OK education. Much more out there to choose from

We have a son (pre-school) and daughter (1st grade) at New Hope, and our daughter has been there since pre-school 3. New Hope has many great attributes: a caring and accessible principal; a diverse staff and student population; and a stong, demonstrated emphasis on character education. It's a very nurturing environment. The teachers and staff seem to geniunely care about the students' academic and personal growth, and there is a willingness to teach to the individual child's needs to the extent possible.
