We've had a wonderful experience with the Pre-K Honors/Kindergarten program for our two sons. They are excited to go to school and proud to tell us about what they're learning every day. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Both of my children attended this school and I am familiar with their pre-primary, primary and kindergarten programs. The amount of progress my children made each year there was amazing! They learned so much, as well as got to partake in fun extracurricular and outreach programs. I highly recommend this school and wish my kids could have stayed forever!

Very happy with my experience with CMMS Ellicott City. My 3-year-old daughter joined the school 2 weeks ago and English is not her first language. The teachers and staff are understanding of her needs, my daughter's teacher is very patient. My daughter is happy to go to school! Also, the school provides weekly updates of the curriculum, I'm confident that she is being taught lessons in a thoughtful way.

My son absolutely loves going to school! Last year, he had Ms. Natalie and Ms. Suddha, who were just the sweetest, and he adored them both. I was a bit worried about the transition to a new class this year, but its been amazing! Ms. Olivia and Ms. Alliya are incredible, and the adjustment has been so smooth. Hes getting exposed to such a variety of classesscience, Spanish, yogaand I love it! Its the cutest thing when he comes home and surprises us with new Spanish words hes learned. We couldnt be happier with his experience here!

The teachers are very attentive and motivate their students to work hard do their best! They have been wonderful with my grandson. The staff truly care for the children as if they were their own. They have certainly helped my grandson blossom and become independent.

Until we enrolled our son in Children's Manor Montessori, we knew he had the potential to excel but just needed the right environment to do so. We enrolled him into this specific program because of the self-lead strategy implemented at Montessori schools. Since his enrollment in April, we have been elated with the progress seen in his personal, emotional and intellectual development. His ability to socialize in groups, navigate positive and negative emotions, problem solve and absorb educational material has far exceeded our expectations. Of course, a significant part of the reason for his growth can be attributed to the central tenets of the program, but it cannot overstated how much of his growth we attribute to the performance of their caring and top-notch staff. The team at their Ellicott City location have taken a personal interest in our child since his first day, and their interest in his overall development has continued through to the present. We are so thankful and appreciative of everything they do for our child.

In addition to the superior care provided to our child, I would be remised if we didn't highlight that the school puts on plenty of extracurricular activities, which encourages parent/guardian involvement, and maintains clear and effective channels of communication with parents/guardians.

We are happy to give Children's Manor Montessori of Ellicott City our stamp of approval.

The main issue Ive had with the school is its managements unwillingness to be proactive, competent, and transparent that led me to disenroll my child. In the Spring, my son caught COVID from an outbreak that spread to multiple children in the classroom and subsequently infected our entire family. The school did not inform all the parents of the outbreak. There are common spaces where classrooms gather in close contact.

I met with their Executive Director (ED) of central management to understand why they wont inform families of positive cases, especially outbreaks. I explained how greater transparency would keep the school community safe and that families can make their own choice of how much appropriate risk they are willing to take and keep their child home. The ED made very clear that she will NOT inform families of positive cases. I asked what COVID guidance they actually followed, but she could not articulate nor reference documentation showing their guidelines. I showed her the MCPS dashboard and suggested if the school could try having a weekly dashboard, but she quickly rejected the idea. She was very abrasive, defensive, and evasive. She clearly seemed annoyed parents were asking for clarification on the schools COVID plan.

Weeks earlier, I found a toddler wandering alone into the parking lot. It turned out that the school staff had brought out the wrong child for the parent at pickup. I was very alarmed and shocked by this incident. I spoke to the school asking for preventive measures to be put in place and suggested making signs with the childs name and classroom to help identify children at pick up which they eventually implemented. However, another parent informed me that this incident wasnt the first time which was concerning because the school should have rectified this issue at its first occurrence.

A few months prior, there was a HFM outbreak that spread to several classrooms. The school only notified us of the first case and didnt inform us when it spread to multiple classrooms. After having been at this school for several years and happy with my childs teacher, it was disappointing to disenroll my child from the culmination of these events. I wished the schools management would be forward leaning, thoughtful, and more skilled in addressing health and safety issues. Asking for transparency and competency shouldnt have to be so challenging.

CMMS has been a wonderful experience for our family. We have two children enrolled and they are thriving. The structure provides the ability to learn skills suited to their individual needs. The children love their teachers, are learning, and are having fun. Its amazing to watch them become well-mannered little humans.

It has been a mixed experience for us.
Pros: Most teachers are very sweet, friendly and greet you when you arrive. The administrators especially Sarah was really great and super helpful and answers our concerns immediately. We love that this school has a lot of activities like concerts, field trips, piano and soccer class, Pizza Friday, etc. Our son started in the pre-k class where they had a bridge program to give activities for the kids who don't sleep during nap time, the teachers were great and we could see our son was learning a lot and his skill was improved drastically. Heard great things about the teachers and their curriculum for the Pioneers class from our parent friends. Will definitely update about this once our son joins the Pioneers class.

Cons: They decided to create a separate class for all the kids in the bridge program. That's when we started not seeing any improvement in our son's learning. The communication was not good either, we hardly get any daily report and most of the times without pictures, so we don't know what he's doing at school. The accounting department is horrible, occasionally forget to charge or double charge. The payment structure is so confusing.

I have been very pleased with the curriculum and communication at the school. My daughter has made amazing friends and her teachers clearly care for her very much. Any of my questions or concerns are responded to within a day. The facility is clean and safe. The school goes out of its way to allow parents as much involvement as possible

Warm, welcoming staff and teachers know all of the children. The educational plans cover a wide number of topics and introduce kids to everything from geography to yoga. Most important though, my child loves it there and I know their teachers take the time to assess and understand them so they can meet their full potential.

We recently withdrew our son from this school due to many issues, the worst of which was him coming home with bruises and marks on his arms on multiple occasions of which staff could not explain. Prior to us withdrawing him, our son no longer wanted to go to school and was in a sad mood when we picked him up. The administration is poorly organized and communication with parents is terrible. There is little communication between the front office and teachers, and likewise between teachers and parents. The sign in computer system is frequently down, and the system that emails out daily reports was broken nearly the entire 4 months he attended. Toileting expectations are unreasonable. The head of the school proposed an action plan to help our son's behavior to which we agreed to, but it was never implemented. Emails to administration were frequently never replied to, and in person requests to speak to administration by my wife were rudely ignored numerous times. The building is poorly maintained including leaks in the ceiling, the water fountain in the main hall leaking all over the floor for months, broken/missing floor tiles in the bathroom, low battery chirps coming from classroom smoke detectors, and mouse droppings in the container storing my son's extra diapers and wipes. Avoid this school!

I had terrible experience really it's not wording. They don't do potty training. If you know any teacher in that then only it will be good otherwise they don't catr. Lot of politics. I feel my son is wasted one year here

I have been a parent at Children's Manor Montessori school, and I have to say that most of these reviews do not represent the true CMMS. The teachers are wonderful, and really do care about each and every child that is in the classroom. I was constantly greeted every morning that I came in. The students were also greeted with warm a warm welcome, and other parents as well. It is a wonderfully positive environment for a child to come in to. There is a reason that there are so many children in one class. The reason is that there are 2 teachers in every classroom. There is a lead teacher and an assistant, and in fact if class sizes go above 27, there will be 3 teachers in the classroom. Another reason for the class sizes is, not every child will be in class everyday. This is why CMMS has part time and full time schedules. If you are looking for strict montessori, this school is not the perfect fit for you, that being because CMMS is a mix of modern, and traditional montessori. I believe that CMMS does a wonderful job mixing the two together. Administration at CMMS is questionable at times, however, mostly all of the time they come through with questions and concerns.

I am familiar with the preschool pgm in EC. The school is clean and safe. The teachers I have met are good and caring. My main issue with CMMS is the class sizes - they cram in as many children as possible. The "Montessori" mixed age approach is used I feel to get away with putting 2 year olds (where MD ratio is 1:6) into classrooms where the ratio is 1:9 (or I heard from other parents, sometimes more!). It feels like a childcare factory, which needless to say is not a great environment. I have struggled to get to know other parents due to turnover and class size. It is also not possible for the teachers to give the kids the 1-on-1 attention they deserve as such young ages; nor do the parents have an opportunity to learn much about what their child is doing every day since the teachers only have time at best to photocopy one daily note to hand out to the entire class. (Sometimes, there are no notes at all.) Overall, I feel the administration sees their goal as to bring in more money, rather than to educate young children. If they truly cared about building on the individual strengths of each child, there is no way they would allow so many children in one class.

I don't even want to give this school a star but this website makes me. Management has no respect for the employees or the parents. They do the BARE MINIMUM and all of your money goes to the owner. Classroom supplies are broken, old, and non-existent. The teachers aren't all certified and don't know the first thing about teaching/handling kids. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE.

We unfortunately had a bad experience with CMMS for our 3 year old. Our child was kicked out due to behavior issues that manifested after attending. We worked with the school to try to curb behavior issues (which were not experienced at home) and then went outside the school to seek professional help. After jumping through all the hoops, nothing wrong could be identified with the child. However, we were told from observations in the classroom that class size has played a part in the behavior issues. CMMS does use Montessori method but they work in large classrooms and group lecture. This means that the class is NOT structured to provide individualized attention from faculty at this age bracket. We did try to work with CMMS in mitigating behavior issues but couldn t prevent the expulsion. It was terribly frustrating for us and our child, for weeks after, asked why she couldn t go back. If your child is not developmentally ready for sitting in large groups for long periods of time, then be warned that CMMS isn t suited for individual attention.

My husband went to visit recently. He walked right in and had to go find the lady himself. Huge red flags to me. Administrator said side doors are not used but someone was trying to get in during the tour in one of the side doors and they clearly had done it before. Administrator uncomfortably let them in and said that they know him. School curriculum seems great but we both get very bad vibes from the administration. How does a complete stranger off the street walk right into a preschool these days?

Before we went for our tour, we tried our best not to be biased but sadly as many reviewers here have said before, the staff is truly unfriendly. The front desk lady needs to be replaced, he was extremely cold and rude. My husband and I were on a tour and heard this teacher scream at the kids, it shocked the wits out of us. I don't think this 'strictness' of being mean to the kids is part of the Montessori philosophy. We decided not to pursue this school and joined another school last month where our child is at least learning in addition to smile and be happy. Something weird about this school....

We had good experience with teaching staff, and their focus continued to be on educational development and learning activities. However the administration staff and communication of polices is not consistent, many of them are not clear about the basic policies and provide conflicting information. Our kid is completing the kindergarten program, at first administrative staff mentioned no notification is needed for the kids not planning to continue in the next school season, not registering will be taken as completion of the school year. When we told the school that we are not sure about the summer plans school administration asked us to fill the summer registration form along with the registration fee to reserve a seat and asked us to notify school before the start of the summer program. When we notified to CMMS about the not joining in the summer program, they are asking that the failure to pay the fee for three month will result in submitting the payment to collection agency. We were surprised to see this this behavior of the administrative staff, please be cautious of all their conflicting information and be ready for their non-cooperation on these matters.

As others have mentioned, the administration, especially the Director does not believe assisting the parents. My child has improved somewhat, but only in the last couple of months after a year. Registered for summer school, but summer plans changed, and informed them that he would not be attending. Was told that we still had to pay for tuition for 2 months because of the 60 day advance withdrawal notice requirement. This was on the registration papers for the regular school year, but NOT on summer registration materials. Was informed by director that their program is for year round, and so the withdrawal requirement also applies to summer. So why not print it out on the summer registration documents, and why the need to register again for summer? I asked her to show me summer registration documents that als o had the withdrawal language, and she could not. I told her my child would not be attending summer school, and so we would not pay for tuition when he was not going. Director was very inflexible, and rudely told me that they would be sending me to collections for non-payment. And these type of poeple are supposed to educate your children?

My child has gone to this school for over 2 years and later this year I will be sending my younger child to be a student here as well. I don't pretend to believe that this school is perfect for everyone, but what I can tell you is that they do a terrific job educating and working with the parents to try and accommodate request for teachers and classes. For the record, the Teachers are awesome. my child has had nothing but positive experiences and has grown leaps and bounds with regards to reading, writing, math, social skills and self confidence. The teachers, in my opinion, truly love their children and believe that they are making a difference by teaching through the Montessori methods. Highly recommend this school.
