I love KCA. My children come home filled with excitement about our faith and what they are learning. The administration team is amazing and truly give their all. The teaching staff are fantastic and care deeply about each student. The difference between public school and KCA is night and day. I have friends with children still in public schools who often remark on how the kids seem to be ahead academically for their age groups. I know this is because KCA staff work so hard to provide an amazing education for their students. In addition, KCA provides our family with a loving Christian community to raise our children in that I have struggled to find anywhere else since moving to the Roanoke area. I am so proud to watch the wonderful Christians/people my children are becoming and know that KCA is helping us to guide them to bright faith filled futures. Our family is truly blessed to be a part of the KCA family.

The elementary school teachers are good. We weren't as impressed with the middle school as we hoped we would be.

For the most part, yes, I agree. But kids are still kids. Bullying, bad language, inappropriate behavior is still pretty rampant - especially in middle school. The teachers do try to resolve things when they are aware of issues.

I think they try but maybe they are understaffed. A lot of parent complaints are not being dealt with.

Overall, the elementary school is pretty strong in comparison to the rest of the public county schools. (Recently, though, they seem to be falling behind the county in math.)

However, I can't recommend it for parents looking for an above average middle or high school experience. Be prepared that religion and Bible concepts are tied into every subject. (Your child will study Noah's Ark in science class and the earth's creation in history. Creationism is the only acceptable viewpoint.) If you are looking for a Bible-based school, this one is a great option. If you are seeking great discussion on religion and faith, this is not the best school for your child. They will not be encouraged to share their own viewpoint if it does not align with the school's.

It is quite pricey for what you actually receive. Some of the teachers are beyond compare - wonderful people who will do right by your child. Others are much more interested in showing videos in every class than actually teaching and getting your child to understand the material. The school is lacking in extracurricular activities. They did just add a new sport (baseball/softball), but still have very little after school/during school activities to offer.

We enjoyed this school for several years but didn't love our middle school experience. For us, it was time to look elsewhere.

We LOVE the teachers at KCA. When you walk into their classrooms, you can just feel the warmth. They want the best for their students -- and they expect the kids to work up to some pretty high standards.

The workload can be heavy sometimes, but the teachers are very understanding and know that the kids are busy. My kids are normally able able to knock out their studies in around two hours. Some nights are heavier, some are lighter. The kids also get a morning break several days each week where they can work one-on-one with teachers or finish an assignment. The teachers also make themselves available after school for questions. It's been really helpful for my daughter to have those additional resources!

KCA is amazing. We've tried public schools and private in other states. This is hands-down, the best experience we've ever had for our kids. Both of my kids participate in sports, so that was an important feature to us. KCA's sports program is really growing. Last year, the girls varsity basketball team were state champs. This year, the volleyball team became league and tournament champs. What a great experience for my older daughter to be a part of! Academically, both of my kids are challenged. We love the fact that my daughter's high school classes are also college-level courses. In fact, she's actually getting college credit for three of them! What an awesome way to prepare for your kid for the future by giving them a head start. We can't say enough good things about this school.

There are several children at KCA who do require extra attention. KCA does everything possible to supply students with what they need to succeed. Two teachers dedicate their much of time to working in a resource capacity. They are both phenomenal!

Wow, what a difference from public school! For the first time in years, my kids are coming home telling me what they learned. (Such a nice difference than hearing about disruptive classrooms, bullies, etc.) They kids at KCA respect their teachers -- and they receive respect in return. You can tell that the teachers love their jobs and truly care about their students. I love the curriculum. It IS challenging and the kids are expected to work hard. But, with all of the extra activities, KCA encourages the "work hard, play hard" attitude. Recently, they held a carnival and it was incredible. So far beyond what I expected! But that's what KCA is all about -- going beyond what we expect and giving us something more. We are LOVING being a part of this school!

We cannot say enough good things about KCA! My children transferred from a private school in Texas when we moved to the area last year. We moved in the middle of the school year, which meant changing schools, friends, etc. KCA welcomed us with open arms. Both of my children love their teachers and have made friends easily. I was concerned about how they would fit in, but with all of the sports activities and events that are held throughout the year, there were a lot of opportunities to make new friends. Academically, both my middle schooler and elementary aged child are challenged. My younger child reads above grade level and was immediately given additional material that kept him busy --- and learning! My middle school student struggles with math, and we were worried about the fast paced of the academics at KCA. I shouldn't have worried -- her teachers sat down with her regularly and worked over the trickier concepts at her pace. It was awesome to watch her gain confidence in a subject matter that's always been tricky. Truly, this place has been such a blessing for us. Not only are our kids happy, but we are AMAZED at how much they are learning!

My daughter started KCA last year for 9th grade and my youngest will start next year. The teachers here are exceptional not only academically but spiritually. The administrative staff is responsive and caring. While the focus is on academics there are several Sports and other electives to choose from college classes are now being offered as well.

KCA has been a blessing. My son has attended from Pre-K to 1st grade and has had AMAZING,LOVING, and CARING teachers. (I can not stress this enough.) Mrs. Fry, Mrs. Nevala, and Mrs. Sobola no only take the time to care for these kids, but they truly love them. They have amazing communication with the parents and always take the time to answer your questions or address concerns. I took my son out of Green Holly because I felt like he was not recieving any guidance in Pre-K. Moving him to KCA was the best move I could have made. We are not overly religious and never recieved pressure from the faculty about it. This is truly an amazing school for those who want a loving enviroment and want to see their children grow personally and academically.

Kings Christian academy is a good school and definitely strengthed my relashonship with God, but in most of the classes I found myself bored and not challenged enough. There also isn't a great language selection (only Spanish). If you child needs individualized attention then it is the perfect school, but I found that The classes were too easy for me.

KCA has been a blessing for our son and our family. He made the transition from public high school to KCA this year and the change in his attitude and happiness is simply amazing. He is finally academically challenged and provided with materials and instruction to enhance his high school experience. He looks forward to going to school each day! His teachers communicate with us regularly with positive emails and phone calls telling us his test scores and passing on 'Congratulations' for jobs well done. From the very first moment at the open house, we were welcomed into the KCA family. The small class sizes and Christian foundation has helped him to blossom academically and socially. We simply cannot rate KCA high enough. We feel that this school has rescued our son from the failing local public high school system. Visit KCA and notice the smiles on the students' faces, pleasant interactions between the students, and the joyful learning in every classroom. We highly recommend this school to all children and parents.

KCA is a special place. The first time I met the Administrator, he was actually out in the soccer field down on one knee, letting middle school boys kick footballs off his toe over the goal. That type of humble leadership and caring service is prevalent throughout the culture at KCA. The teachers are all-in when it comes to providing great opportunities for kids to learn and grow. The materials presented are excellent, and provide college level preparation in all offered courses. The anatomy and physiology course is on par with what is taught at universities across the country. Opportunities to be involved in extra-curriculars are abundant, and the atmosphere is a safe and intentionally Christ-focused one. I'm proud to have been at KCA.

KCA gave me an incredible foundation. I'm a recent graduate of KCA and wanted to throw in my two cents. I came to the school 8 years ago and am now attending a great university in Virginia -- my first choice college! I've looked back thought the reviews and noticed that in 2004/2005, some people struggled with their experiences. I totally get it...the school was just starting to grow at that point, there weren't a lot of extracurricular activities, and the student body was small. Ten years later, however, the school has an incredible amount of things to be involved in and the number of students has grown substantially. I was really into both sports and the Ensemble, which is their award-winning vocal group. Not only did we get to travel for competitions, but we had opportunities to perform that we wouldn't have had in public school. Academically, I'm amazed at how what I've learned in the classroom at KCA has helped me here at college. (My note-taking skills cannot be beat, thanks to a particular upper school teacher at KCA!) I also received several scholarships thanks to their help! I would definitely recommend KCA to a family that wants a solid, safe place for their child.

KCA is devoted to Jesus. No matter what the subject matter or the special activity outside the classroom, the goal is to serve the Lord, to build His Kingdom by the unity and action of believers. Students are well equipped, by the time they graduate, to live and serve in the current culture, and to compete in the college and vocational arena. KCA is also a place of great fun! I love being at the school where a spirit of peace, joy, and encouragment reigns. There are many activities for students--field trips, retreats, sports, drama, musical groups, robotics, service projects. Parent involvement is very high and very welcome. One way I know we are successful is that our alumni return. Some come just to visit; others are substitute teachers, regular classroom teachers, or chapel speakers; some are now parents sending their young ones to KCA!

Hands down, KCA is the best school in St. Mary's County. When we relocated to Maryland a few years ago, I went in search of a school that would be academically challenging for my children as well as offer all the "extras". Unlike other area schools that are cutting their music, arts, and P.E. programs, KCA is working hard to enhance their offerings. My children are challenged by the curriculum -- and I'm impressed by what the school considers to be important. Kids take part in art, music, computer class, robotics, P.E., and library at least once each week. Impressive. We've visited schools that are twice as expensive and they don't offer as much as KCA does. The "religious" aspect is also positive. Kids go to chapel once a week...I've attended and thought they were well done and would cater to most folks. All in all, a really solid school that I'm proud to have my kids be a part of.

This is our family's first year at KCA and we love it. We had some issues with our local public school last school year and decided to enroll our children at KCA. Both of our daughters have blossomed at KCA and I am very impressed with the curriculum. My children are academically well ahead of their friends who attend the public schools in the area. The staff is also very friendly and supportive. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved and the students and staff were very welcoming to our family. I can't imagine my daughters attending any other school.

KCA has an outstanding reputation in the community. We actually heard of the school first from neighbors -- nothing but positive. After checking it out ourselves, we discovered why people love having KCA be part of the community. It has a terrific academic reputation. (Last year, the robotics team went all the way to the world championship competition in CA.) Subjects are taught in a challenging manner, but even children who struggle are helped along with extra tutoring. Not everyone is alike and those differences are embraced here. A recent review stated that KCA's focus is to convert people to the Christian faith. Of course the teachers are going to share God's word -- it's a Christian school. Each week, the kids attend a chapel for 30 - 45 minutes on Thursdays. And, they have a typical religion/Bible class as part of their curriculum. But, my daughter has never felt coerced or pushed into a particular set of beliefs. Most of her friends attend different churches around the area, so it's obviously a very accepting school. We also love watching her participate in track in the spring and volleyball in the fall! (I believe they also have basketball, cheerleading and soccer.)

King's Christian is exactly what is claims to be - a Christian prep school, and it does a very solid job of this when students apply themselves. We've had 4 of our kids attend there; 3 of the four have graduated already and the 4th is in HS. All 3 of our older kids were extremely well prepared for attending world-class universities. Our oldest has already graduated from a 4-yr university with honors, our 2nd oldest has a 4.0 average at one of America's most prestigious universities, and our 3rd oldest just validated multiple courses at America's most selective public university. More importantly, each of our kids were trained to look at the world around them from a God-centered perspective and this has helped them live with both confidence and conviction. While KCA is unashamedly Christian it has not been afraid to deal with tough issues like sex ed, has worked tirelessly to integrate ethnically, racially, and socially and provides an environment for students that is very much in the World but not of it. While I don't doubt that my kids would have done well at most any school, it's the faith, academic discipline, and life skills taught by KCA that have "hooked" them for life.

As a current college student at a leading research University, I look back on my time at The King's Christian Academy with frustration, anger, and resentment. This school's primary focus is to "convert" people to the Christian faith- not to properly educate children and prepare them for the REAL world. In science class, children are taught that evolution didn't occur. Any educated person could refute the appalling lies found in the science text books at this school, but the young children subjected to this "information" are brainwashed into believing it's true. In chapel every week children are fervently encouraged to spend their free time "converting" others; If KCA had their way, every student who attended their school would go on to be a missionary and live their lives in a sheltered bubble where science was based on the Bible. Sheltering your children from the truth won't protect them or help them succeed in the future Children need comprehensive sexual education, they need to learn truthful science, and they need a diversity of opinions and people in order to be able to form their own beliefs; None of which KCA can offer. Think twice before sending your child to this school

I was a student at KCA for 5 years. From a purely educational aspect, there are very few faults that I can find with KCA, as it set me in good stead for the rest of my educational life, and the basics they taught me have continually served me well. However, I do not feel that a good education makes up for the innumerable problems. The school is narrow-minded, unaccepting, unfair, and continually gives preferential treatment to those whose families donate the most money. The school did not prepare me for life in any way, as it is overly sheltering of students of all ages, and gives no insight into any real-life realities. Any kind of 'different' is shamed and discouraged by students and staff alike. Bullying is prevalent throughout the school, and is typically aimed at children with less money, or those who don't buy designer clothes; bullying is not addressed by staff, as they work to keep the rich families happy and ensure further donations. This school has an excellent and challenging curriculum, but lacks in every other possible area. In my opinion, if you are not a wealthy, conservative Christian family, this is not the right school for your children.

Two words: fantastic environment. My son transferred to KCA during high school and we were amazed at how quickly he was able to acclimate. His classmates were like-minded, good kids who welcomed him -- that's a tough act to follow. He's become active in a couple of the sports programs, which are solid as well. Both my wife and I agree that this is a great place to send your child.

I was very surprised to see only 3 stars for Kings Christian Academy. I noticed some are older (2004-2005) so the school has possibly made some drastic changes between then and now. My child attends the school and my family has been very happy with the enviornment and academics. Some of the negative reviews mentioned lack of extra curricular activities and the religious teachings. The school offers soccer, track, cheer, basketball, volleyball, drama, band, etc. I am not from an overly religious family, we do not attend church, and have never felt any pressure from the school to be otherwise. I think there is a good balance between the religious teaching and the standard academics.

We are new to KCA and absolutely love it there. My children are in 3rd and 5th grade. This school has been a blessing for our family. My children spent last year at a public school in St. Mary's county after we moved here from out of state where they had also attended public school. At SMC public school they were very unhappy, bored with the work and upset with some student's negative behavior (cussing, constantly disrupting class). After much prayer and discussion we decided to look at private schools. After visiting several schools, we chose KCA hands down! My children are now being challenged in their work and have wonderful friends and teachers and look forward to each day! Apparently much has changed at this school from what the early reviews say because I only see caring students, teachers and parents. My children are thriving here and tell us they want to stay at KCA until they graduate. They love that they can pray with their classmates and learn about and discuss the Bible. We knew this school was for our family the first time we visited at one of the Open House nights. It was one of the best decisions we've made for our children.

I've attended KCA since the start and now i'm in 9th grade. I love it here! The environment is so amazing and I'm not sure what kind of place could be better. Yes I looked at those other reviews and Some things may be true ,but This School is so well managed and has amazing teachers that care for the students and will do anything to help the kids get the help they need and really get the subject. In a public school, Not many teachers would go out of their way to help a student pass and excel very high. Especially with the very small amount of pay the teachers receive at KCA. They care! Bible really strikes me as an amazing class. I can discuss with my teacher about what it means to sin and how God uses it to mold me or anything else we discuss. We also get tons of chances to have extracurricular activities if we take the chance. I participate in Sound, Soccer, Praise Band, Fundraising, Track, Special Events, and so many more opportunities! KCA is amazing! Though the Devil can bring us down, The envireonment at KCA and the friends you gain there show you Christ and help you through everything. I wouldn't trade being in KCA for a school anywhere else in the world.

Overall, KCA is not a terrible school, considering the school runs on a fairly low budget as private schools go, but that also means that extracurriculars and general opportunities for students are minimal. The school is supposed to be "Non-denominational" but the school was started by a local Baptist church, and is still very, very Baptist. They show moderate tolerance for other denominations of Christianity, but seem to frown upon the beliefs of Catholics and Mormons. They do, however, show very little tolerance of any other religion at all, but that cannot be too much of a surprise. The quality of education at the school is so varied it's hard to rate. Some of the teachers are excellent, and some aren't. Overall, I wouldn't send my child to KCA, I would choose St. Mary's Ryken, or if that is unaffordable, the public schools aren't terrible anymore.
