Its horrible. I do not recommend it. Throughout the whole school year, we never had ONE lock down drill, and nobody talks about it. The teachers are sometimes rude, like they dont even try to recruit good teachers. They dont make you excited to learn and students can do horrible pranks with no consequences. Do not recommend AT ALL, do not send your kid here. Also anyone different is not acceptable, plus the dress code isnt reinforced. My friend who is of color (which doesnt even matter), was wearing a tube top and so was another girl who was white. Then old teacher walked by, nodding nicely at the white girl, but then started to call out on my friend on how inappropriate she was. Do not send your child here!!!

My son has been fully sdapted at this amazing middle school. He has engaged on his Math program, and decided by his own to join the Schools Orchestra. The Teachers are fantastic, and also diligents in terms of communication with families. My son has embraced the school system being strongly committed either his grades, as his MAP/MCAP. I do love North Bethesda Middle School.

My son adapted quickly for the new middle school routine, and he has keeping his performance in excellent level, including the MCPS assessment. Teaches are so dedicated and supportive to the students and families. My son likes the schools atmosphere and friends.

I personally don't like this school because first they are not strict enough and the students can be mean and bully you. They do have a dress code, but don't enforce it, so what is the point of having it. Some students can be very disrespectful to teachers and their peers. They talk back when they don't like something, they talk bad about other people, and they think it is funny to prank or do their little dirty tricks on people. And sometimes the teachers don't even do anything about it. The school/teachers let the students say bad words. Ok to be fair, teachers are nice, but that does not make up for the other parts. If you are thinking about going to this school, I 100% do not recommend you to go to this school.

The teacher doesn't like to teach the students good and the students should wear appropriated clothes and quality of study is low, but also students say a lot of bad words and the teacher don't care.

The teachers do not provide feedback, do not provide grades in real time, do not respond to email communications. Teachers make inappropriate comments and call students names (during zoom lessons where parents can hear what is happening, so you can believe your child when they say they are treated meanly from teachers- what do they say when parents not in hearing distance). Students are bullied, with no support from school administration.

the school is great to make friends and people but some times they switch after a few months. some of the teachers are nice and some are not. some are rude and some are also not. but the kids in the school are kinda mean and disrespectful. but mostly some subjects with mostly true and the school has the best snacks. and they have good drinks too.

I'm a student at NBMS and i do like this school. it has its ups and downs, but overall i would recomend it. Alot of the teachers here are very nice and try to connect with students as much as they can. i have had so many teachers here who i loved having. on the other hand, some teachers can be a bit rude, unhelpfull, or strict. of course, not everyone or any school is perfect, so i dont blame NBMS. Homework here is not too bad. Most teachers just give a bit of homework to students that isnt too time consuming. Other teachers give no homework whatsoever. Afew teachers tend to pile on homework, though, which can be anoying. NBMS is doing awesome with things like the counculor office, having available subsitutes, extracuriculum activitys, and things like that. This school can also makes things fun by having small things like feild trips, movie nights, plays, candygram sales, partys, and weekly friday candy/toy shops. NBMS is a very diverse school, and i think its cool how different people from all over go to our school. My only complaint is some of the kids at this school. NBMS tries very hard to make sure kids are not being bad, breaking rules, or bullying, but some people slip through the cracks. i have seen afew people being bullied and people talking behind others backs. Some kids can be disrespectful to substitutes and even teachers. I have also seen/heard about multiple fights between students. Although this is happening, this school has still been a very nice expirience for me.

I have actually one child at NB and two, now in HS, who went there. Overall teachers are good to very good. Counselors are available for kids and parents, and defiant behavior isnt tolerated.
Homework: each child is different. My sons never complained and were done fast. My daughter spends hours completing the work load.
Im very grateful to live in the neighborhood of NBMS

Just no. As a student that has transferred schools throughout the county since 6th grade, the learning environment here is horrible. School is supposed to be an engaging, inclusive, a motivating place to learn and succeed--but here, at NB.. none of those apply. So much homework is piled onto you, even during the weekends, our one chance to take a break from the week's burnout. The Math Department is utterly disappointing. Not going to name who, but there is a math teacher in the 8th grade team that likes to pick on students? I don't know how to phrase it without being mean, but whenever a student has a question about the material his answers are usually like, "What do you not understand? I've explained this before. It isn't so hard. Pay attention." And he answers the question to the material, but as if he's annoyed, bothered and frustrated. As a teacher, you should expect students to take a while to learn the material--not everybody goes at the same pace, nor do we think the same. They expects us to memorize the information immediately rather than letting it marinate and how to apply it to different problems. The students here are also extremely disrespectful and the teachers don't really care. They pile lots of homework. Homework usually consists of, 2 page documents you have to fill in based on a reading for history, it depends for English but sometimes just reading or preparing for a Vocab quiz. For languages it varies. Math, a certain amount of pages in the packet or DeltaMath, whatever app they use. They don't give out much in science but it's like the same for history. For Art, I know that they do weekly visual journals and on top of that you usually have a graded project to work on in class and you have to have the visual journal be done for homework. Easier said than done right? I usually spend about 3.5 hours. The B, C and D hallways are always crowded and there's so much shoving. Also, apparently some girls smoked in the lower D hallway bathroom so usually it's locked (I can't confirm that this information is true, but the bathroom is usually locked. Especially in the mornings). So, pretty much, you have one bathroom for the lower B, C and D hallway. I guess one positive thing about the school is, for a good action made during class (example, staying focused, turning your work in on time, cleaning up, etc) you can earn stamps. You can trade in those stamps for goodies on Fridays. These goodies usually consist of chips, candy, snacks, toys, etc.

I would rate this school a 9.5/10. I had great experiences there and I wish I was back in middle school again.

North Bethesda has a great approach to homework. We would talk about assignments and our teachers would explain everything that we had to do for the night. An example would be with essays or current events. The teachers would explain which sources we could use and how we can look up other links in order to help us gain a little bit more knowledge on the subject. In my time there this was how it was.
Posted: July 13, 2018
Many of my teachers I had were great. Ive always felt like I wanted to go back in time and be in middle school again, which was because of the teachers. The teachers made me feel as if I was their friend and they would help me with whatever I needed. Then there were some teachers who had anger issues, mostly because of some noisy students. But it wasnt anything serious, unless you were delinquent. But overall all of my teachers stuck to the plan of teaching us the right way. This is the reason why I loved NB.
Posted: July 13, 2018
There were some teachers who did try to help us with leadership. An example would be when the class was acting bad. Some teachers would try to quiet the class and give us a lesson of why we should respect others in the class by quieting down. Pretty much all of the regular talks with students and teachers. But other than that there wasnt really a LOT of leadership because some teachers just took the misbehaving.
Posted: July 13, 2018
Students with disabilities were treated as normal as possible, by both teachers and paraeducators. The only problem was that some students were immature and made fun of them, but in a secretive way. Thats the only thing that I didnt like about SOME students.
Posted: July 13, 2018
I was never really bullied because I didnt really care what people talked or thought about me. But sometimes many students were bullied and there wouldnt be any help when they told the teachers. The punishments werent as severe. Like sometimes some students would be picking on kids and the teachers would just say stop, and that would be it. So pretty much the teacher talks with students werent severe at all.

It really depends upon which teacher you get. Almost every teacher I had was terrible, but I did have a few very good teachers who I very much appreciate.
Posted: January 3, 2018
I would not say it develops character in its students such as integrity, compassion, and respect. I would say it develops poor character and lets people who are rule breaks slip through the cracks.

The Principals they have at that school are completely unable to properly and professionally deal with concerns both by students and parents.

It will be the worst decision of your life.Don't go.

North Bethesda is a great school in terms of academics. My child and many others have been able to get straight a's even with their rigorous programs. The reason it hasn't gotten a total 5/5 stars from me is because of the staff and the social problems between students. My child has been teased and "bullied" by a certain security guard and by a certain reading teacher. These staff members have done the same to other students and have no boundaries when it comes to a child's emotions, and well being. The social problems of North Bethesda were a problem as well. It seems that people focus on your mile time, and your grades or the classes you are in as opposed to both those and creativity, etc...

North bethesda middle school is really good but my child had a very hard time with one security guard whom i don't want to name but he was giving harsh words to my child on nothing and he bullies people around the teachers are really nice but i want the children to have more creativity instead of just turning in the assignment. For the parent involvement i would give 10/10 and for teachers and staff i would give 2/10 and not all teachers are bad some are that always work for our children to be better and the music programs are really really good they bring the community together!

North bethesda middle school is a good school with very good test scores, very good curicullum. but the main problem is the staff. the principal and vice principal rarely take a students side in an issue and have trouble manitaining order within the school. one of the security guards frequently bullied my child with harsh words and mean behavior. Also when a child and a teacher do not get along well, the teacher gets away with bringing the students grade down because of a grudge. also my child was frequently picked on by a teachers aid, the aid isolated my child from the rest of the class and was forced to work by himself on a group project, and the teacher did not do anything about it. for the school and curicullum i give a 10 out of 10 but the staff are a 3 out of 10.
