ONE of the worst schools in the district principal acts lice in front of family but is very rude to students and security personnel just sit around and be on there phones.They don’t investigate anything they just jump into conclusions.worst school ever don’t recommend at all.

This school is a lot better more recently with a lot more equity then listed in the statistics above. The issues with this school comes from the policies but with the SGA at the school which seems to be working more with the staff then last year trying to bring student voice before a final decision in new policies. There are issues I am not denying that but the overall view of this school makes people seem any problem and think it's 10 times worse then any other school. I will also say that the music department specifically band and orchestra is really good with a really good teacher who wants you to be your best.

As a current student at this school, I think it's an okay school.

Most of my teachers were nice at first but now they are just getting more rude over the schoolyear. Right now my Spanish teacher doesn't really provide us with great learning, we dont have textbooks and we just have to rely on memozerizing everythig she says in order to do a good job on our lessons. On one of our lessons we also had o write "What sport do you like the most?" but in Spanish, and we didn't learn how to say any of that. Honestly, I learn more Spanish on Duolingo then in my actual Spanish Class. My English teachers a bit annoying because she keeps saying to "watch your time" but we can litteraly see the timer on the board. My math teacher though, the worst, her moods flip around, like one day shes all happy but then the next day when only like one or two people raise their hands our teacher says "Why arent you all raising your hand? You all should know this!" and when we get one question wrong she raises her voice at us but when we get an answer right she just says "Good job". The homework she gives us is also kinda frustrating because when I enter the IXL math homwork it just has like 1 or 2 instructions in 4 words that I dont really understand, one of them said something about finding the slope on "a graph" which I didn't knew what that meant, whether I should print it out a slop graph or make one myself so you just kinda have to rely on what you THINK the instructions mean for you to do. I just wish we got a paper copy instead of doing everything from scratch in our paper journals, and we cant do it digitally because we wont be able to show our work.

There are some pros to this school though, like my digital art teacher is amazing, even though I dont enjoy everything we do I still like how she gives us more then enough time to do our work so that we can go at our own pace. My science teacher is also pretty nice because she tries to get feedback from students, like one time she handed us papers that were about giving her feedback and we didn't have to put in our names so it was pretty nice.

The students overall are pretty nice, in the halls if you accidentally get pushed by them they say sorry but a few students are sometimes rude and swear at each other which I don't know how the teachers don't get detention or anything for it. Overall it's an okay school, it's not as bad as it sounds, all teachers are different so it might be better for other people. :)

Current admin and staff are great, with lots of friendly and helpful people. It definitely feels like a community when you work at this school. Class sizes are typically medium, depending on the subject you teach. I don't know of anyone with over 30 students. The students are overall very respectful and there are a lot of supports in place for when behavior management gets to be overwhelming.

This school has been progressively improving since my first child attended and I have always thought highly of the school. Neighborhood improvements and parent groups are taking this school to a higher level.

My daughter goes there She Loves Mostly Every single teacher. She love's The Jym teacher, Art Teacher, 1 of the Math Teacher, Science teacher, World studies teacher, BUT!... My daughter Tell's Me That The English Teacher's Are Mean!? And That One Of The Math Teacher's Are Also Mean! They say thing's like: "If you Don't Hurry up Where Calling home!" And, "You Need To Stop looking around and pay Attention! (Witch I totally understand But Sheesh Say It NICELY!!!)" And Spanish! If There 1 Minute Late for class The teacher Mark's them As Absent! My Daughter If virtual due to covid But She says The Spanish teacher Let's the kids at school Joke around And Talk all they want during class! Like What "GOOD" Teacher does that!?!? VERY BAD!!!

There is about an hour of homework per night. Teachers coordinate between subjects so students don't have homework in every subject every night.

My child has had a great experience in a year at Newport Mill. Her classes are interesting and challenging, and the teachers coordinate together well so as not to assign homework in every subject every night. She has made good friends, enjoyed school events like the Tiger Run, and joined clubs. At our conferences her teachers gave us thorough, useful info about her progress. So far, so good, NMMS!

I am a strong believer in the public school system, but after sending my son there for 3 years and now my daughter for 1 year, I am sad to say that Newport Mills has not been a positive experience for my kids. Some teachers are wonderful, but they are out-numbered by others who are ineffective, overworked. Class size in 25-30 students. The Principal seems to lack leadership. My son experienced bullying and it took me emails, phone-calls and even seeking "outside" council to get a meeting with the school about the situation. My daughter complains that "I can't learn because there are too many kids in my class- and the teacher spends most of her time taking out kids who are disruptive". Wish that school would support their teachers and give them more training, smaller classrooms.

Newport Mill Middle School is the middle school I went to and I regret every moment I spent in there. Most of the teachers there were rude, disrespectful and threatened/belittled me, saying things like, "I'm done helping you" or "You're really annoying" and even "You're ruining my Valentine's day." when I asked for help and was stuck on a question or problem. One of the teachers even threatened to call my dad because I didn't understand a problem. Because of this I stopped asking the teachers for help, but my dad kept receiving complaints from teachers that I wasn't making any effort on my behalf to seek help. In my resource class, the teachers occupied us with stupid class work while the whole point of the class was to do homework or late work, and when we had no homework to do, part of the grade was to write "none" or "no homework" in the class that you had none in the agenda book. And simply because I asked if I could write a X instead of none or no homework, I was given lunch detention for marking something "wrong" in my agenda book. Also I was bullied on a daily basis. When I went to staff to report this, they didn't do much, if anything, to help me. But I've ranted enough, point is: DON'T send your child to Newport Mill MS unless you want him/her to come home crying everyday due to being pestered by a student or a TEACHER. Both thumbs down.

Newport Mill Middle School boasts a multicultural student population, a highly diversified staff and an environment that makes one feel more like they are in a small village than a public school. Students from over 40 countries walk the halls of Newport Mill. There is an excellent ESOL program and a differentiated curriculum for the diversity of students. The staff of the school are devoted to infusing rigor into the curriculum. Teachers challenge students with lessons based on higher level thinking. There are a plethora of after-school activities in the arts, drama, sports and computer. The staff are dedicated to the students and there is a rich dialogue ongoing between staff and parents that reinforce the greatness of the school spirit "Go Tigers!"
