My child's experience at Govans Elementary has been amazing. The entire school works as a community to support the students both academically and socially/emotionally. Questions, challenges, and opportunities are all addresses in a timely manner with empathy and consideration. It's a beautiful building full of wonderful children and educators, lots of resources, and a caring community of parents.

As a teacher at Govans Elementary, I cannot say enough good things. I have taught at 3 different schools in Baltimore City, and Govans Elementary is by far the best. The administration never sits down! From arrival to dismissal, they are on the go, welcoming our young scholars in every morning, supporting teachers and students all day, and wishing everyone a good evening on their way out. I feel super supported and appreciated here. The students travel from all over the city to be a part of our 21st-century charter school, and for good reason. The staff are passionate about their jobs and student success. Our Student Support Team is in and out of classrooms all day, helping students emotionally and socially. The "Dragons after Dismissal" afterschool program is extremely well funded annually by big grants. It provides the most incredible STEM and enrichment programs I have ever participated in. They even have a First Lego League robotics team that has made it to the State competitions 6 years in a row. I sincerely cannot say enough great things about this wonderful school.

We transferred our rising 2nd grader from a charter school to Govans Elementary. The principal, teachers, and community partners exceed my expectations everyday. I suspect the low ratings for the school are either out-dated or the special-ed grades are included in the averages. My student is very bright, but a slow reader, and the school adjusted his classes and activities to challenge him in STEM while meeting him where he was in reading. Two thumbs up and five stars.

Govans Elementary and its charter operator, Baltimore Curriculum Project, use a restorative justice model. Kids are supported while they address fairness and injustice through round-table meetings. My son was bullied by an older student. The students and their teachers sat together, discussed the negative behaviors, and the kids made an agreement about how they would behave towards each other going forward. The bully had to hear from his victim and admit what he'd done, and the victim learned he has a voice in the school and in defending himself. It was a very positive experience for my young son.
