During our time there our family didnt feel the love of Christ or Christian values expressed.No love, mercy, grace or forgiveness.

I have multiple children who have been through Incarnation and they love school. I love the Catholic identity with monthly Masses and daily Morning Prayer (with the whole school, classes take turns leading). Children are paired with a Prayer Pal in another grade and they all love it. The teachers really care about their students and create families in their classrooms. Teachers send weekly emails in younger grades and older grades (appropriately) give more responsibility to the students. It seems like the resource team isnt always ready to support children with special needs (but in the last few years, RISE seems to be very helpful). Its a beautiful community where most people use Integrity, Initiative, and Inclusion.

As is true in any school, some people have a bad experience and they end up commenting here (on Great Schools).

The only reason I give this school 1 star is for the teachers between grades Prek-2--all of whom are wonderful and fabulous (a huge debt of gratitude goes out to that lower school team). I cannot comment after 3rd grade as I am pulling my child after a horrendous 3rd grade year. For an administration who prides itself on being "transparent" and "open", their receptiveness to flat out failure of their teaching staff in 3rd grade is appalling. Fortunately, until this year I have never had to interact with the administration team, which may account for my 1 star. Here is what I have witnessed :
-Failure to address any social and bullying issues, leaving it to permeate and spread beyond their own control. I understand the middle school is ripe with issues because of this failure to act early.
-Failure to address the lack on consistency among teaching methods/assignments/organizations of the 3 third grade homerooms.
-Failure to adhere to any "accommodations" plans.
-Lack of fundamental communication from teachers (a weekly email send on a Thursday night about a week that is already 4/5 of the way through).
-Zero transparency about homework assignments (a homework site that is rarely accurate and/or not updated for the week in progress)
-Sending home graded work over a month later; further loading PowerSchool (their grading app) with grades that occurred months ago.
-Misrepresenting their true class size. A class size of 28 kids is a glorified public school.
-Purporting a values code of "Initiative, Inclusion, and Integrity", but rarely following it themselves.
-Disbanding the HSA because its leaders openly criticized the administration. Their response was rebranding the HSA which leaves the Principal 100% in control of its leadership and its actions (hardly independent).
-Removing any event that does not directly impact the financial gain of the school (father daughter dance, bingo, 8th grade family dinner).
-Isolating select "high donors" to the school with select events honoring their donations. I would not say this is inclusion at all, it fosters classism within the school community.
-Parents had to provide the reading novels to classrooms for a graded assignment (which coincided with the school putting in a new fence and a new Bermuda grass athletic field). No money for books but they are concerned with the "appearance" of the school.

I sadly recommended this school based on our experiences Prek-2nd, which is why I felt compelled to write this review.

In general, the leadership has declined in quality since the departure of the schools original principal and vice principal. At the time of this post, the school had just had a change in both the principal and vice principal positions and while the vp has shown significant promise, I have not heard enough about the principal to make a fair assessment, but I have heard that communication has been a bit of a problem.

During the schools earlier years, this would be different, but during the second principals leadership (currently, the school has its third principal as of the time of this review) children with different learning requirements are not helped efficiently. The teachers do their best but are not all equipped to deal with issues like this. If the administration makes a change to the current system to be more interactive, as opposed to the current state, which is simply a few short study sessions with adults not necessarily equipped to teach the subjects the students need assistance with, and providing the students with a quieter place to take tests. Children with learning disabilities struggle significantly and will likely need to find extra help outside of the school.

Almost all of the teachers at this school are effective, friendly and willing to spend time with students to assist them in working through difficulties.

Some teachers are amazing, but there are many teachers who have been there 10 years or more. They are set in their ways and are not good to or for the children.

The school has lost its heart and soul with the departure of its previous Principal. Sadly, with the new regime in place I am looking to place my child elsewhere. You see, my child has some learning differences and there has been a major shift in the way the school is working with him. I am ready to try public school

We moved our son here from one of the best public schools in Bowie after years of disappointment, and were astounded at his enthusiasm for school and improved performance. Great teachers, well-thought out policies, beautiful clean facility (water fountains that work here! something we never had in PGCPS...).

We switched to SOTI from a public school in Crofton. So far, it has been the best investment we have ever made. My child loves going to school now and we also love the character development and catholic values taught at this school. I would highly recommend this school to anyone interested!

Our child has been attending SOTI for several years and we are happy with the rigor and depth of the subject matter taught. Controversial science topics are not glossed-over as Ive heard in other, non-denominational, religious schools. Math, Art and Music are all exemplary. We were disappointed that foreign language instruction didnt start until the 4th grade, where nearby public schools start earlier. And its not a daily class when instruction does begin. I feel thats a missed opportunity. However, we are really happy with the school community and high level of parent involvement. School events are well-attended and the community is very supportive in times of need. The cafeteria is run by Tommys Food Service. They do not cook food on site, only reheat. The menu caters to what kids will eat, including weekly Friday pizza from Papa Johns. They could stand to bring in a healthier option for that. But healthy snacks are always offered. The school is also great at teaching citizenship and a great moral compass. Several times we have been stopped in public by strangers and passers-by to compliment us on our childs behavior/manners/etc. Part of it is from home, yes, but it is reinforced at school. A family member who is a public school teacher also remarked at the difference in the way the kids present themselves. So for us, the pros far outweigh the cons and well be at SOTI for a couple more years.

We withdrew our child from one of the best elementary schools in PG County after two years without a real math teacher and were fortunate to be able to get him into SOTI two years ago. SOTI is excellent, and where there is ever room for improvement, the staff have been open to suggestions, criticism and change, unlike the bureaucrats at our old school.

The admission process was unnecessarily laborious and it took almost 4 weeks to hear back from the school administration, even with a follow up call. They never offered to meet with us or give us a tour of the school during this process. Having a child with dyslexia, the message finally conveyed was that the school can not handle children with learning disorders as well as a public school. We were told specifically Incarnation only has 3 special educators to handle 800 students. They said the class sizes are large with a limited teacher to high student number ratio.

They also did not explain their evaluation process. I had heard good and bad things from other parents about this school and was keeping an open mind. However, based on the school's own words, if you have a child with any diagnosis or learning disorder, this school may not be able to ensure your child receives the solid learning environment or the best edcation they deserve.

This school's admissions left a detailed voice message about their limited ability to handle learning disabilities. They even made the comment that public schools would be a better choice over Incarnation for a child with a learning disability like dyslexia since they have limited staff and resources, and large class sizes.

School of the Incarnation is an excellent school! The teachers are responsive and supportive. There is very strong parent involvement and it really is a warm school community. As a member of one of the affiliated parishes, I respect the faith-filled atmosphere. The principal is amazing. She genuinely cares about each student and knows the families in the school very well. When you visit, you are warmly and professionally greeted. I highly recommend this school.

This is an EXCELLENT school. I have two children attending and I couldn't be happier! The current administration is great! The current principal is knowledgeable, personable, and professional. I have noticed improvements in communication from both faculty and staff. Unlike others who have commented here I have found from personal experience that discipline is handled in an even handed, professional manner. I am thrilled with the school, the faculty, and the administration. I recommend this school to everyone.

I love love love this school. My three children love going to school. The teachers are wonderful as well as the administration. It is a warm and loving environment but most importantly the education is Great! I left another Catholic school in the area and wasn't happy at all. I am glad I found this one. You can't go wrong here.

I highly recommend this school to anyone. It's amazing!!!! I love everything about it- the environment, the students and their parents, and especially the principal. She is a great leader and extremely intelligent. As a parent, I couldn't have spent my money better.

SOTI is outstanding in every way: academics, extracurricular activities, facilities and resources, regular and support staff (including enrichment and resource teachers for all grades), vision of the leadership, and the embedding of religion and spirituality into every aspect of the life of the school. You will not find a better Catholic school anywhere in the area.
