We are new to LCA. My son just started here for 7th grade and we couldnt be happier. Wish we had sent him here earlier. He is learning so much and his confidence and accountability has really grown. The teachers are wonderful and have gone above and beyond to help my son acclimate to the environment and to excel. Bullying is nonexistent. Wonderful students. I am constantly surprised at the depth of the curriculum. I am most impressed with how LCA teaches students to be independent thinkers who employ reason and logic and not just regurgitate facts. A gem of a school!

We are so lucky to have this school close to us. Every teacher and staff member at the school demonstrates a genuine desire to help every student be successful. The love and care is obvious and not contrived.
I love the classical approach to education used by the school. My son (3rd grade) isn't just memorizing facts, but learning how to think, and process information and make decisions based on that. Latin starts in 3rd grade and my son can already spot many "root" words in our everyday dialog.
My son loves the school, the teachers, and the friends he's made.

We couldn't ask for a better school for our daughter. The school goes above and beyond any expectations we had for her education. The classical approach was a new concept to us but it has shown what kids are really capable of if they are taught in such a way that pulls from their natural strengths. The work is challenging but fun and the teachers love what they do and the kids they get to teach. The community that is fostered there through their daily devotions, school events, recess, lunches, and classroom size has built such a confidence in our daughter that may have been lost in a larger public school setting. If you are looking for a change or to start your child off in school you won't find a better school than this one!

Our son was falling through the cracks in public school common core. At LCA he has grown leaps and bounds. We highly recommend this excellent learning opportunity. The children are motivated to learn each and every day!

My son is going on his third year at LCA and we love it! Classical Christian schools are the way to go if you want your child to truly learn. My 9-year old son is able to memorize and retain multiple new bible verses, history, grammar, literature, spelling, math and latin knowledge every week and he has fun while doing it! I have peace of mind knowing that the teachers and administration are reinforcing the Christian values that my son learns at home. LCA teaches our children to have a passion for life-long learning through a biblical worldview knowing that all truth originates from one source, God.

LCA has wonderful teachers who are the best in their field and are extremely dedicated to our children.

The community is so close knit. The teachers, students, and parents truly do work together to accomplish their goals. The teachers and administrators genuinely care for all of their students.

When I looked for a Classical Christian Curriculum school for my children, LCA stood out from all the others. The warm and welcoming environment, the excellence in teaching, and the encouragement given to students at every level made our choice and easy one. My children received an wonderful education from amazing educators. They left being better prepared to enter the world than many of their peers. LCA provided my children with skills they needed to achieve their further goals. The school was a blessing to my children and our family.

Classical and Christian is the best way to educate the whole student, which reaps eternal rewards.

There are long hours, as with any teaching job, however the teachers spend most of their time figuring out how to teach the material in a way that is both exciting and memorable for the students. This may be a skit, a nature walk, a video, a review game, etc. The teachers are all extremely dedicated to the success of each student and give each one the tools he/she need to be successful, without actually doing the work for him/her.

Students will have math homework each night, along with studying for upcoming tests. The students have a significant amount of time to start on the math homework and the material on the tests is reviewed each day. I find that the amount of work each night is just enough to give them the independent practice to help them really understand the concept. Class time is spent exploring and learning the material in many new ways. There is no such thing as busy work. All assignments are intentional.

Because all material is taught through the lens of Scripture, the students are held to a high standard to respect one another. The small class sizes make it easy for students to become more like a small family that loves and supports one another. When students do have an altercation, they are encouraged to work things out peaceably and to look inwardly to their own fault before pointing the finger at others. The way that students love one another, is truly unlike any other school I have seen.

This school exudes what it means to find the joy in learning. With a simple walk down the halls, you will hear singing, chanting vocabulary in a fun rhythmic way, but also the pitter-patter of little feet walking in a straight quiet line. It is the perfect balance of structure and boundaries that help the students to thrive, but also has an element of excitement that brings learning to life. If you are looking for a school where all material is taught through the lens of strong Christian values while still encouraging your child to grow to their highest academic potential, then this is certainly the place for you.

Classical Christian Education that does not follow Common Core. Students are fully immersed in all subject areas, and taught critical thinking skills with a Biblical worldview. Teachers instill a passion for learning, and students enthusiastically rise to the challenge!

Teachers go out of their way to assist students during lunch, recess, and after school to assist students in reaching their full potential.

At times, homework can be a bit overwhelming, however that is due to poor planning/laziness on my child's part, not the assigned work.
Posted: March 2, 2016
As a classical christian school, God permeates all activities and subjects as we are part of his perfect and amazing plan. Students are held accountable for their actions/inactions. This is true of all the students, not just a select few.

My children started at LCA this year. They spent many years in AACo public schools. They are both very happy and finally challenged. Homework is purposeful and encourages a consistent work ethic. The teachers are caring and dedicated professionals who expect the best of every student. The atmosphere is calm and orderly. I am thankful we were able to move our children to LCA this year and we will make it a priority to keep them there.

Lighthouse Christian Academy is the best option in the area for solid academics and a safe, morally-focused environment. Our daughter has attended LCA for five years and loves going to school. The current administrator, Ms. Dixon, is focused on academic excellence and a Christian worldview, so the overall education experience is a strong one for the students.
The teachers are passionate, dedicated people who could be out earning twice as much in the public school system. Each year we are amazed at our daughter's new teacher and what they are bringing into her life. We feel fortunate to have found this school.
The one issue is the lack of athletic teams, which must be supplemented by signing up for the Queen Anne's county recreation leagues in various sports. The building of teamwork skills and physical discipline should be a part of kids' educations, so this is a school weakness.
Overall, though, I believe LCA offers more than any other private school in the area. Just wish they could grow their school larger than 70 students, however, so that the extracurricular aspects would grow as well.

I don't see how these teachers could give more. We've watched some teachers come and go for personal reasons like moving out of the area, etc., but the majority of the teaching staff had been in place at LCA for the last five years up until last year when the high school closed. The teachers are kind, compassionate, dedicated and seem like they consistently work at staying abreast of classical Christian education trends.

LCA probably gives more than the local public school system, but it has not been a daunting volume. Our child seems happy and motivated by her teacher to do the homework, and the work itself seems relevant (not busy work to fulfill a mandate).

Biblically-based morality and ethics are pillars of the LCA education system (classical Christian). You can do a websearch for classical Christian to see what I mean.

The loving, nurturing environment, the commitment to tried-and-true learning methods (no "Common Core" here!), the well-trained staff, and the high standards of excellence are just a few of the reasons we love LCA. What a wonderful experience for our whole family.

Lighthouse Christian Academy has been a vital part of our family for several years now, and our children have grown in countless academic, social, and spiritual ways since their enrollment. We have never looked back once we found LCA. It has been a blessing to our entire family, through new friendships, fellowship, relationships, and support that the school supports in abundance.

We have been a part of Lighthouse Christian Academy for two years. Our children have flourished in the creative and loving environment! The teachers have taken a vested interest in the overall development of our children's character as well as education. The classical method of teaching challenges them every day, but it has been a key to their overall success. The smaller class sizes have allowed personalized attention without sacrificing the other students time. It is a great place and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a change.
