Very good. I feel my child is safe when at school, that the teachers and administration genuinely care.

What I've seen over 5+ years from Primary through Grade 4 is that my child has been developing well without having to bring any work home. To clarify, the child has done average/above average academically and has not been assigned any homework by teachers.

Based on what I observed during the "normalcy" of 2014-2019.
In 2020's COVID scenarios, the teachers have worked very hard to juggle split classes (online cohort, in-person cohort).

Posted: November 4, 2020

Based on my somewhat-limited interactions with the other students.

Also, very admirable leadership during 2020 COVID.

The Montessori system of keeping several ages together in a classroom seems to help kids learn despite their learning differences. Note that learning differences is not the same as learning disabilities. My understanding is that the school, being rather small, doesn't have adequate resources/staffing to serve students with learning disabilities.

The school and its community put an emphasis on kindness and grace. The teachers help kids resolve conflicts.

Excellent experience in the four years we've been at the school.

There is no homework, which studies indicate is not beneficial for younger children. We do not miss it for our elementary-aged children. They learn and are engaged during school hours.

The teachers make a school, and the ones at CMS are excellent. Their dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic was particularly evident -- they worked tirelessly in the spring and summer to continue providing a quality education to our children.

Posted: October 30, 2020

A core tenet of Montessori education is "grace and courtesy," and the teachers are constantly reinforcing this with the students. They provide tools for students to resolve conflicts between and among themselves.

The head of school is broad-minded, community-oriented, and passionate about education. He has a background in philosophy and surfs and skis in his spare time. He listens to parents and is engaged in running the school. Our family is very grateful for his handling of the school during the COVID-19 pandemic, ceaselessly researching and then implementing safe practices to enable an in-person opening.

The school does its best to support students with learning differences.

The school works with the families involved in any behavioral dispute to find solutions for all.

Events ranging from the response to COVID-19 to my daughter's own individualized needs give me a positive view of and experience with this school. I will feel comfortable dropping her off for school tomorrow. Thanks, CMS!

My daughter is five years old as I write this; a traditional homework assessment won't apply. Instead, I'll relate our COVID-19 distance learning experience. In March 2020, our family switched to a distance learning (and working) posture like lots of other Americans. You could say that it was nothing but homework for a good fraction of the school year! Chesapeake Montessori adapted quickly and well. Each week in distance learning was more confident than the previous one. At home we developed new daily routines that integrated guidance from the school, intended to help our daughter press forward. An inventory of activities was established. We engaged. One-on-one learning sessions happened via video conference. Our daughter's teacher kept abreast of progress on our end, and adapted learning activities for us as we navigated a difficult season. In this environment, my daughter acquired the beginnings of literacy. For this, I must give a hearty thumbs-up!

When our daughter was three years old, my wife and I started looking for a formal preschool after sensing that we'd be losing valuable learning opportunities if we held off. We investigated several schools, of varying size and cost. What brought us to Chesapeake Montessori was the methodology, which is taken seriously at the school. What keeps us is the faculty. My wife and I agree that our daughter's teacher is a great role model as well as a patient guide. As we've been introduced to other teachers at the school through community events, we feel grateful and optimistic about the journey ahead for our daughter.

I put 'strongly agree' because I think the faculty are simply good role models. There are formalized elements of grace and courtesy that are built into the program for students, which is great. The staff and faculty set the tone by example though, which I think is most important.

The school leadership strikes me as caring. The school has crossed chasms in a difficult year to 'make it happen' for the students and family. As we go through the (still very challenging) 2020/21 school year, we are glad for frequent updates and course corrections that keep the school (and its parent community) on track. Thanks, folks.

Our daughter had a progressive eye condition which required a surgery. Her teacher worked closely with us to accommodate her needs, in order to maximize her growth and development as we moved through that.

We only have one daughter at the school, and she's still pretty young, so I don't have much to offer. The class seems peaceful, and our daughter tells good stories from the school day, if that is an indication.

I have only positive things to say about CMS. We truly love it there and couldn't be happier with the love, care, and education given to our son. He has attended CMS since he was 20 months old and he is now 4. It is such a great community to be a part of.

We feel so grateful that our children have been able to attend Chesapeake Montessori for the last seven years. The school is a warm, caring environment with strong academics and responsive teachers and admin. We were thrilled with the elementary experience and over the moon about the Adolescent Program (7th and 8th grade). The faculty is incredibly dedicated to providing an optimal educational experience and ensuring that students have reached their full potential academically, socially and wholeistically. Our oldest was accepted into every high school that we applied to and we have found that CMS prepared him well academically and as a contributing member of the school community. Our youngest finished the elementary program at CMS and is now in the Adolescent Program and, even in the midst of COVID, is having a wonderful educational experience- who could ask for more?

My son has attended CMS since age four and is now in the elementary program. We are so pleased with how his development has been supported in both the primary and elementary classes! I love the emphasis on nature and the outdoors.

Chesapeake Montessori School has been a wonderful academic community for our children. The teachers, staff, and facilities are excellent. The parent community is very involved and supportive.

Chesapeake Montessori School provides a beautiful, nurturing and caring environment for children of all ages. The school, the staff and community have been a second home to my family for years. We knew very little of Montessori philosophy upon arrival and feel that our own education has grown with that of our children. Our children are developing into well educated, thoughtful and kind young adults under the guidance of the staff. We look forward to the continued growth of CMS and being part of this wonderful community for many years to come.
