Annapolis high school is a great place to go to school, the teachers are awesome, the programs that we have in clubs are super inclusive. The classes are diverse and the individuals you may have plenty of stories and plenty of things to learn from your class, is a better school than people make it out to be you should try your hardest Annapolis because it's a great place to learn and grow.

One semester was enough for my freshman. Constant fighting. threats. commonplace classroom disruption coupled with zombie-like teachers and an indifferent principal made for a thoroughly terrifying experience.

Annapolis High School has been a wonderful experience for our family. The principal is one of the most communicative and positive administrators we have ever met. We love waking up to his "Good Morning Panthers" during this year of virtual learning. We have had overwhelmingly positive experiences with the teachers. They are communicative and helpful and genuinely appreciate our kids. The classes are challenging. The clubs are well run and engaging. The counselors are helpful and compassionate. Our kids have never had too much homework for the level of classes they were taking (with the one exception of AP US History but that is the same everywhere). We love the diverse student body and the opportunity to learn from others who are different. We appreciate all of the work the passionate PTSA to support our school and other volunteers who have put in so much effort to lift up and help those who need it. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of the Panther Family.

As a parent, it is so incredibly frustrating to hear several teachers say during parent teacher conferences that they have to "teach to the lowest common denominator". The bar is set so low, yet students - of all races, even white - are still not proficient in math and English. Way too much time/energy is devoted to so-called social justice messaging and not focusing on the basics. They let kids re-take quizzes and tests multiple times. That doesn't happen in college. They are setting up false expectations for life beyond high school. The best way to create a better life for all races of students in this school is to improve the academics but zero effort is put into that. Schools counselors are no help. They seem to have given up as they know the system is broken. School leadership just tows the county messaging. Nothing will ever improve at this school until they focus on raising the bar. The lip service they pay to so-called tutoring or after-class help sessions is just that, lip service. Now with the school shutdown for nearly a year and refusal to return to school, kids are even further behind. A travesty.

We have had a wonderful experience at Annapolis High School. I value the administration, teachers, and staff and the positivity they display while challenging our students. We embrace the diversity at Annapolis. I appreciate the varied backgrounds, cultures, and experiences shared by AHS students.

Annapolis High School has a system in place called "Panther Hour." Instead of a typical block lunch routine, the entire school has an hour-long period of time for students to choose their locations. Students can get food from hallway carts or spend one half of the hour in the cafeteria. All teachers have at least 3 weekly "blocks" in which students can visit them for extra help, to review information, or to complete homework. Clubs also take place during this time. Panther Hour allows students to receive a level of homework support many schools do not allot the time for.

Teachers at this school are constantly learning through weekly optional professional development sessions. They also feed off the positive energy from the principal and administration, which is obvious in their lessons. Although the school is large and their are a lot of staff members, teachers are active and make themselves visible. They are a true resource for students.

This school has a large population of English Learners, and it works hard in order to create a united front in meeting their needs. The school has a large team of English Language Acquisition Teachers who are always looking for ways to support their fellow teachers so that they can meet the needs of their learners.

As a teacher who has worked in three school districts, I have never felt the level of support and positivity that I do at Annapolis High School. Parents and administrators alike make sure to let us know that we are valued, and it allows us to be better for our students. When moral is high for teachers, everyone feels it--especially our students. I am beyond proud to be a Panther.

My son has had an excellent freshman year. He is able to reach out to his teachers after school hours with questions on assignments. He loves being at AHS.

My kids say they would rather be at Annapolis High than any other private or public school in AA County. Its diversity is a big strength, you can be who you are, without one generic "type" that dominates in homogeneous schools, and teaching kids how to get along with all sorts of people from different backgrounds. Colleges and employers are looking for this, and Annapolis High gives that advantage. With the range of magnet programs and specialties, there are plenty of rigorous courses available, as well as sports, theater and arts, nationally ranked Naval JROTC, Center for Applied Tech classes nearby, International Baccalaureate, AP and Honors classes. AHS had the state winning Mock Trial Team, huge # of Future Biz Leader students going to Nationals, Model UN, Dance teams, etc. It's "Panther Hour" structure allows for making up missed assignments when sick or away, getting remediation help, or club meetings during the day w/o having to stay after and need transportation. Every AA Co public school has some structural limitations in funding and organization, but AHS is one of the better choices for your student and family.

Some excellent teachers, very dedicated to their students and generous with their "extra" time to mentor clubs, field trips, advise and write recommendations. Sometimes they leave for other counties with higher teacher pay, unfortunately. But many great and good teachers at AHS remain.

Annapolis High provides amazing opportunities for motivated students. The teachers at this school have inspired my son to become passionate about a variety of disciplines... from history to physics to music, and so on. The AHS teachers have been fantastic and give generously of their time by running the extracurricular programs that mean so much to my son. I love that he is taking challenging AP and IB classes, but most of all I love that AHS is helping him explore his talents, building great friendships and discovering what he wants to become!

I had 2 daughters attend AHS (classes of 2015 and 2017) and feel very lucky they attended AHS. The teachers and school leadership are hands-on and passionate about the kids, the diversity is very balanced, and the fellow IB and PVA students were outstanding peers.

As a former student, I know that too get attention and help from a teacher, you either need to be extremely far behind, or a "promising young mind" who needs an A to maintain their gpa.

It's my first year and I love it! The PVA program is great. Yes, there are fights ,but if you hang out with good people you'll be fine. Just walk away from fights. I have so much homework. I disagree with the parent who said they don't give any homework. The teachers are okay. I don't see why the school has such a bad reputation.

If your teen does not need special education services, can deal with fights, the bad behavior, enroll in the IB, Advanced Placement, PVA or better tech programs, it may be OK. If your child needs special education services, WATCH OUT. Staff members who know my autistic child warned me away. Unfortunately, we could not find a way to avoid placing my son at this school. Special education here is AWFUL. Your kid will be mainstreamed into "co-taught" classes where his/her education is an after thought. Kid having trouble? Don't count on much help from "co-taught" class teachers. If they get "busy" they will simply excuse your LD child from having to complete a project, and give him an A or B. Your child will soon learn that work done by special ed students does not matter to his teacher. SAD. In other co-taught classes, your kid will be staring out the window while the teachers concentrate on the "normal kids," or try to control the others who spend the period acting out. If your teen is well behaved, his rude, cursing classmates will intimidate and frustrate him. You will probably never see your kid bring home a text book, or homework in most classes, and you will wonder what that report card full of As and Bs was all about. If your child needs special technology, FORGET having it available early in the year. MONTHS will go by. Your kid will be left primarily in the hands of untrained , uncertified "aides" who are only required to have a GED or HS diploma. If you ask questions, or challenge how the IEP is being implemented, most of these "special educators" get defensive and start telling you about their qualifications to avoid giving you answers. When a few concerned faculty members warn you away in private, you know you are in the wrong place.

Almost no homework is given, especially for special education. Other students have also informed me that they almost never have it either. The faculty only bothers with it for the IB and AP students. I have never seen my special ed student bring home a text book. EVER.

These values may be encouraged in the high performing AP and IB students, PVA and advanced tech programs, but not in all of the special education co-taught classes, which are a joke. Your special education student's work gets slapped with an A or a B even if it is incomplete, incorrect, or absolute nonsense. In a pinch, they sometimes do the work for your kid, so you think there is progress. If you know your child, you will not be fooled.

There are a couple of good teachers, but they are leaving. No one stays for more than a couple of years. This is a low performing school with lousy behavior. They have a lot of things to fix first.

I graduated Annapolis High School ten years ago. I took either honors classes or AP classes and it was an awesome experience. I learned a tremendous amount from the teachers the Math and Spanish departments really stood out. My friends are shocked when I say I learned Spanish just through high school they say well I took Spanish in high school too, how did you learn so much? It is a testament to the school s awesome Spanish teachers at the time. Math was great, I was well prepared entering UMD with what I learned at Annapolis. Annapolis High boasts an IB program which is as intense a program as there is for USA High School academics. My sister went through the program and with her extremely hard work and dedication to education ended up getting enough money in scholarships to pay for her entire schooling. If you work hard and apply yourself here then great things can come to you. On top of the excellent education students can get when they apply themselves, the diversity at Annapolis High is great and showed me the real world . In life you deal with people of all different backgrounds and Annapolis gives you this. I hope to send my kids to this school one day.

This school literally sucks. I moved from a school that teachers care about you and going to school was fun, NOT HERE. In any school students are what make a school, everyday there are atleast 3-5 fights a day, teachers dont care, principal could care less. Its ridiculous!! The ratings should be a -10 out of 10. Dont go here, dont put your kid here, if you do, you have made the BIGGEST mistake of your life.

I Love Annapolis Senior High. The staff is amazing, caring and by far the best teachers my children have ever had. The administration is caring and on top of it all. The IB Program and the PV Magnet make this school extra special but the entire high school is great. I think that the diversity of the community is one of its major strengths. So happy to be a part of this community, my child is triving!

My ninth grader is loving AHS. His teachers are very committed and caring, he is challenged academically, and he has plenty of opportunities for clubs, athletics, and other activities. The school holds regular after-school drop in meetings that provide an opportunity for 9th grade parents to touch-base with teachers. The active PTA keeps parents aware of important dates and results of games and student successes. AHS is a great place with excellent staff.

My daughter came to AHS after being in private school from K-8 and we were a little nervous about the transition. She has had a great experience here and loves her school. She loves the diversity of kids, caring teachers and opportunities to participate in a multitude of programs. The staff has a lot on their plate working with such a diverse population but they seem to always strive to provide the additional services needed by some of our kids. We love AHS and try to spread the word to anyone who asks.

Annapolis High School have excellent IB, AP and Honors programs. Our daughter transferred into the IB Program from overseas. She found the teachers and faculty to be caring and encouraging. The IB program is very challenging, but was a good fit for our daughter. The teachers are excellent educators, who challenge their students to broaden their research and views. They graduate to be thoughtful and articulate young adults ready to take on new challenges in college/university.

I attend AHS. It has an awful reputation and, yes, bad things happen here, just like at every high school. But we also have good things. We have a good SGA, good teachers, smart students, etc. Other schools get their problems swept under the rug but at AHS, everyone knows everything that goes on here. Don't be scared to send your student here. It's an excellent school and I love attending it.

I was originally concerned about my son attending Annapolis High School, but this was the school of his choice. I have to tell you I have been nothing but thrilled with the school. The teachers are great, the administration works as a team. I am very impressed and happy with our choice to send him to Annapolis. It would be great to see more parent involvement, but I know that is a sign of the make up of the school. Many students don't have parents who are involved with their lives, let alone their school.
