They want us to pay for almost every trip and we literally can’t have phones or hoodies and everything is more strict ,we need our old principal back not even to be mean ,I feel miserable and tired of being here, this school drains me to the bone and I just wouldn’t recommend this to any new comers I’m sorry , still love the teachers and the teaching is good but sometimes I feel we aren’t getting teach the right things or ways but i hope the kids next year have a good experience , also pls change that school up it isn’t fair to the middle schoolers we literally don’t have art anymore and the school and hallways our too small for us , maybe a second floor.

My children attended Woodhome in the 90's,
and it was by far the best school in the city. The teachers were experienced and caring , the administration was exceptional, and the parents were very active in providing what was needed. Then my grandchildren started there. What a difference! By 2022 to 2017, a new administration had changed everything. Most of the experienced teachers had been driven out by being overworked and unsupported. The trend was to have all brand new teachers with no experienced teachers to guide and mentor them. The population had changed and some of the classes were out of control with no help for the teachers trying to do their job. Students were even causing problems in the neighborhood. I had to move my grandchildren to another school to ensure that they would have a safe learning environment and a chance to achieve to their fullest potential. It is so sad to see just a great school decline so rapidly.

If you want your child to get involved in everything a child should not be involved in , this is the place to send him/her. If you want your child to be pushed through school with passing grades but you know your child did not earn the grades , then this is the right school to attend. This school is Horrible. If your child needs any type of assistance in any area, they absolutely will not get it. The teachers are incompetent and just really don't care if the children pass or fail. Children who have IEP or 504 plans are not getting the services they are supposed to receive. From the teachers to the principal to the assistant principal , they are reviewing a pay check to do absolutely NOTHING! I heard this used to be a great school but my experience will tell a different story. The children sit in class and play and curse all day. They have no respect for authority so the whole environment is horrible for any child.

Principal Douglas was extremely arrogant and manipulative. The PTA has had an extremely difficult time working with her. She is uncooperative and combative. It took a few emails to get boss before she started to act professional. Also, the moral of the staff was low. She treated the teachers poorly too.

I had to call police because my kindergartner was assaulted in a bathroom..

Posted: July 15, 2018

My daughter had a learning disability.. I asked the school to help me.. And they didn't until the end of the year.. And that was also calling and emailing the city School board over 30 times

Posted: July 15, 2018

As I stated before begging the school to test her and 30 some calls and emails throughout the school year.. They finally tested her through the summer.. And the county said they did such a horrible job they couldnt go by any of the test.. When I moved to the county cause I couldn't leep6 her in this school.. I had to make her repeat kindergarten.. Because she was so behind and they wouldn't help me..

My grand-Daughter just started this school for Kindergarten. So far this school yea, I am very happy with Woodhome. I would recommend this school.

My daughter currently attends this school. I am very impressed with the curriculum. The teachers really challenge the students. In fact, all of the faculty that we have encountered have been very supportive and encouraging. The school lacks extra curricula activities and foreign language which is why I gave 4 stars. If they had more extracurricular activities (not informal dance teams) they would be comparable to some of the area private institutions (in my opinion). In other reviews, I have read parents complaints about the teachers not working with students with "issues" that appear to be behavioral. I have to side with the school on this if the post is infact true. The teachers are not behaviorist and if your child is disruptive they should be removed. Other children should not be deprived because your child for whatever reason can not get it together. Sorry, try to see it both ways. We are very pleased with Woodholme Elementary School.

My son attended Woodhome Elementary/Middle for PreK - but I will be doing everything I can to make sure he is not attending Kindergarten there. I wanted to give my neighborhood school a chance before automatically looking into charters and private schools. Unfortunately all of my fears came true. The new principal of this school is very condescending, cold and uncaring. Students were getting expelled from PreK......these are 4 year old children! The school would rather 'get rid' of kids then work WITH them and their parents to help them. There are some fantastic teachers - but they seem to be stifled under the current administration. The school building itself is in disrepair and in awful condition. Until Woodhome gets new, caring and respectful leaders - I would caution against sending your child here.

I'm a graduate from Woodhome, went from 4th to 8th grade. Woodhome is a very unique school in terms of having a diverse student population and a small student population. The small population of students allows for the school to truly be a community, and I can say most teachers will be very approachable to you and help you out with any issues you may be having, academic or personal. Woodhome's problem when I went there was it's overall lack of organization, a building in need of many repairs, and a FAILING middle school math teacher. Woodhome consistently performs poorly on the math MSA because they refuse to get a math teacher who can actually instruct the class. They've gotten bettter by adding another math teacher, but until they get rid of the one incapable of teaching, it will always be a problem. Woodhome has great potential: a FANTASTIC English department, stationed in a great community, generally good teacher involvement, and kids who actually WANT to learn. Woodhome is a good school, but is far from being the best, but I hope positive changes will be made since the school has entirely new administration starting this year (2011-2012 school year)

The school interest is provided special education services to black children whom do not need it. They are in need of better teachers whom are culturely diverse and are not quick to fail the child and thiswill make things better. The school could use a makeover and the transportation is very poor. I just hope the school system gets better soon and to promote continue sucess to all children.
