Midtown Academy is subpar at best. Their Gifted and Talented program is pretty much nonexistent and they dont use any of the required resources on Baltimore City Schools site.
Even some of the teachers dont appear to have the educational or professional qualifications for teaching. Some have issues with English, grammar and speech.
The facility is an old church building and not adequate for growing elementary students. This page says their offer (4) sports but that is a lie. They dont even have the facilities or resources to do so. They just got their basketball goal replaced after an entire year of it being broken.
The secretary makes up her own rules for how she accounts for tardies and their record keeping is not accurate. There is no accountability or integrity for the staff regarding administrative duties. After all, if you dont mark the students tardy then it appears that Midtowns doesnt have a tardiness issue.
Safety is the classrooms and in general is a major issue. My child was bullied and it was brought up to the teacher and principal. After a conversation with Principal Davis, she told me she was contact me to develop a way forward. Never heard from her again and my email went unanswered. My child complained of students with behavioral issues who are violent and threatening harm to other students daily. Other classmates are expected to diffuse situations and assist with deescalation because the teachers wont.
Parents arent notified of the incidents when they happen either. If your child doesnt tell you that a child threw a chair at another child and threatened to k*** them, you would never know.
Midtown is the oldest public charter and it needs to be shut down. Choose another school, for your childs sake.

If your child is being bullying at this school, please take proper actions and report to the Baltimore city ombudsman!
The teachers will try to "mediate" without contacting the parents of the bullies and the bullying continues. My student doesn't feel comfortable coming to the teacher after nothing was done properly after CONSTANT bullying. She asked the other child if they did what my child said (of course they said they didn't) then after I told her my child has no reason to lie she talked to the student and made her "apologize".. then made my daughter right down what the other student did because she didn't feel comfortable saying it in front of the bully and the teacher.... weeks later my child is STILL being bullied by now the same student and now her friends... 3 graders..
My 5th grade child was pushed to the ground in the hallway, lip busted..chest bruised by a boy in her class. They talked to his parents and said they'd take proper action to discipline. Meaning no "fun day" or probably no field trip for the end of the year. My child still has to be in the same classroom as this child. Who also assaulted another student the same day.

Awesome if I could sum every aspect in one word. Each teacher goes above and beyond to make sure each and every child isn't left behind. It's a very safe school. Small enough to give each child the attention they need. The test scores speak volumes for itself.

I should say just right because we supplement our children's work at home with an outside program. However, if we didn't do that I would say not enough.

The teachers and staff at Midtown care for the students and use creative and innovative learning techniques to keep the students engaged. The class sizes are small and it has a true community feeling. The families work together and gather as groups outside of the school setting to foster a strong bond between students. All issues are addressed and dealt with appropriately and the staff seem to love what they do.

Midtown academy is is good school. It teaches kids a lot of new things like states in alphabetical order, geometry, they do science experiments, they teach kids about ancient Greece and many other things. No wonder why my mom has kept my here for 4 years. This is the best school ever.

Midtown has top-notch teachers and excellent administrative staff who have been with the school now for a long time to the benefit of the students. This type of stability and quality is rare in schools, especially in Baltimore City.

This is our 3rd year at Midtown and we love it more than ever! The school's focus on building community and creating an environment where children from different racial, ethnic, and socio economic backgrounds can learn and grow together, is unique in the city of Baltimore. The administration is focused on the right things and the emphasis on students respecting themselves and others is always present. The building facilities are the one place Midtown could really improve, but teachers and administrators have worked cleverly with what they have to work with. We feel lucky to be a Midtown family.

The small size of Midtown allows for a more a personalized experience compared to a larger school. The teamwork and comraderie between teachers and with the principal and staff is clear. We have a second grader and will send a kindergardener to Midtown next year.

If your looking for a wonderful school, you should consider Midtown Academy. It's family oriented and you wouldn't have to worry about he classrooms being over crowded. It's feels like a private school setting. I love Midtown!
